Printing Progress Bar

Is there a way to turn off the printing progress bar?  It takes too long to be able to continue working when the bar is being shown.

first I don't agree with you in declaring the dialog in the method print because this method is called for each page (notice that it takes page number as argument).
So, you may declare the dialog and progress bar explicitly and update the progress in each call to print (or even, you may update the progress more than once in each call as you see suitable),
then your problem may occur because you do the printing in the EventDispatchThread (this will happen if you performed printing in actionPerformed() of a button, for example)
The EventDispatchThread is responsible also for updating the UI, so, if you perform printing in it, it will be busy in printing and have no time to update your UI, when printing is finished and the EventDispatchThread can update the UI, you will surely have removed the dialog.
if this is your case, try to make the printing occur in another thread
like this
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
     new Thread()
               public void run()
                    // do printing here
          }.start();
}

  • HP 8600 Pro Print Progress Bar

    Prior to buying my HP 8600 Pro I had a Lexmark X9575 which, when printing,  displayed a wonderful print progress bar dialog which showed what percentage of a page was printed and told you which page you were on e.g. page one of a four page document. Just wondered if the HP 8600 Pro had something like that.
    If not, is it something HP might consider when updating the software in the future please?

    Hi,
    You are most welcome. As mentioned above, HP Photo Creations has many more options. I've played around with it but for just printing photos, like many people do, a simpler product is the way to go.
    Regards.

  • Acrobat Print Progress Bar

    Anyone know where the print progress bar went in Acrobat? Is there a preference to turn it back on? Seems that Acrobat 8 does not have it anymore...Please shed some light!
    Thanks in advance!
    -Rich

    Hi Jon,
    Thanks for getting back. No, it's not spooling quickly, I am printing a hi-res PDF with lots of photos in it, and it goes to my print spooler and the only way I know it is finished is by looking at my print spooler. There is no progress bar indicating that the PDF is printing (or that Acrobat is doing anything - the only way to know that Acrobat is doing anything, is to open my print spooler dialog box.).
    I would like to try to find a way, if there is one, to get that back without going back to Acrobat 7.
    Do you get a progress bar?

  • Print progress bar slow in Reader 8 and 9

    We have several users who recently began having issues with printing to our Xerox network printers with Reader 8. This is happening with even one-page documents... the print dialog box will appear fine, but after clicking print, it sits at the progress bar and the program seems to hang for a minute + until it's done. Some of the things I've tried include:
    -rebooted printer
    -ran all windows updates
    -upgraded to adobe 9
    -tried several different print drivers (pcl, ps and global)
    -tried all suggestions from knowledge base article:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=333091&sliceId=1
    -toggled all options in advanced print options > font resource policy
    -tested on several different machines, same issue
    -tested with different printers, same issue
    On one machine, I uninstalled Reader 8 and tried version 7, which seemed to work much better.
    I was told this is just a bug related to an update in the newer versions that may be conflicting with our Xerox printer drivers.
    I'm not sure if I want to revert everyone back to version 7, so if anyone has any other suggestions... it would be much appreciated!
    Thanks

    Can you post screen shots of the signature status from Reader 8 and Reader 9 so I can have a clear understanding of what you are experiencing?
    Thanks

  • Missing Print Progress Bar--bug or feature?

    Since upgrading to Acrobat 8 Professional (v. 8.1.2) on a Mac Intel Quad-core running OS X 10.5.1, there is no progress bar when printing. I only know that printing is done by hovering over the "stoplight" buttons and noticing when they become responsive again. (The window itself does not become active until I click in it.) It's as if there *is* a progress bar window somewhere, but it's not visible, and it's not giving up "front window" status when it's done.
    Has anyone else noticed this behavior? It's not affecting function, it's merely annoying. But with the radical redesign of the interface from Acrobat 7 to Acrobat 8, I can't tell if this is a bug or a feature. Any insight will be welcome.
    Thanks,
    David Reiffel

    I am new to this problem, having recently upgraded to Intel Macs from Acrobat Pro 7. There is another issue that seems to have been missed both in this thread and the other one referenced by David above. When the progress bar is on-screen, there is also a cancel button. So now you have the situation where Acrobat is unable to report how far through a print job it is and you are also disallowed from cancelling the job without resorting to a Force Quit... Now, that's the sort of usability I'd pay good money for! The problem doesn't occur using a PowerMac G5, so the functionality is there, it just doesn't translate to the Intel platform. Adobe Reader 9 also prints without a progress bar, so it looks like the problem is here to stay unless a fuss is made and this becomes a 'known issue'
    I've raised this as a case with Adobe customer care on 1 September but this hasn't been addressed as yet. I'll post any follow-up I get here.

  • Adobe pdf printer save dialog box opens in the background - progress bar shows Not Responding

    I have two users who have Acrobat X Pro version 10.1.4 that are experiencing the same things.  First, one person just changed laptops and the new one has a fresh Windows 7 Enterprise X64 image and new installation of Adobe Acrobat X Pro.  When he used the pdf printer for the first time(after opening the program and accepting the license agreement) he was in MS Excel '07 and chose file>print>Adobe PDF and then the progress bar came up and then showed not responding.  After he did this a couple of times with me standing there I noticed that the save dialog box was opening in the background because I could see the icon blinking on the taskbar.  He said that his old computer never did this and that it would always open up and ask where to save the file and never show 'not responding' on the progress bar.  The other person having the same issue is running the same version but she has had the program installed on her machine for a few months and an older version on before that.
    Is there a way to make the dialog box show as soon as you print to the Adobe PDF printer?  What is causing this?  Is there another way to create a pdf from MS Office like the add-on?

  • [SOLVED] Almost there just need a global progress bar

    Heya,
    There's no man page for bar so I have looked at the code a bit. I am trying to have a progress bar to copy a folder with many files including symbolic links (unfortunately pycp does not support them yet). With the -s parameter, I can specify the approximate size of what I am copying but it works only if it is a single file.
    I have also tried pv, pipemeter, orphan advcp, ecp, scp and I am now desperate.
    Would someone be kind enough to help me ?

    This might help http://www.dwcourse.com/dreamweaver/ten-commandments-spry-menubars.php#one
    Also, if you use DW CS5 click on Live Code and Live View. Then when clicking on the menu items in Live View, watch the changes in classes that occur. This mifgt give you a clue of what to do.

  • BIG PSD and slow Progress Bar!

    To open a 200meg PSD file in CS3 takes about 20 secs, I get this progress bar come up saying Reading Photoshop Format... is this normal?
    I have a fast P4 processor, 2 gigs of Ram and large separate hardrive I'm using as the scrtch disk.
    I am curious becuase my friend has a less efficient system running CS3 and he gets no progress bar or delay when opening this same image or any large image for that matter?
    Thanks

    The times you report show that you may be getting only 10MB / second, which
    is not fast by today's standards.
    The first thing I would check is your disk throughput, using a program such
    as DiskTT:
    http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Benchmarks/Disk-Throughput-Tester.shtml
    When using DiskTT, I generally save time with a buffer size of 50 megs, and
    use the write times only when I want to make a quick comparison. The
    larger default buffer size will give a more accurate reading, particularly
    for read times.
    Test your internal drive, as well as the external one. If your internal
    drive is faster, you may see better performance if you use it as your
    scratch drive and save your images on the the external drive.
    BTW, I'm not questioning the other person's individual experience, but IMHO
    it's very unlikely that this has anything to do with your default printer
    setting.

    Hi Dwijesh,
    U can use a OCX control. Make a OCX control and insert microsoft progress bar object into it. Then you can write codes into it accordingly to incerease the bar.

  • Progress bar during upload....

    Hi guys,
    i'm a question....
    i've developed an upload function in my jsf application using Myfaces component FileUpload.
    It works very well.
    My question is:does exists something i can add to my upload function to view a progress bar during upload without using Ajax component that gives me some problems?
    Thanks very much

    iloveflex,
    why not use the progress event of the FileReference object?
    Have a look at the Adobe language help for FileReference and you
    will see that the one-line help for this event is "Dispatched
    periodically during the file upload or download operation". The
    example code at the end of that help article gives an example of
    using this event to print out bytes so far and total bytes in the
    trace window. You should be easily able to adapt this to display in
    some other way sutiable for your users.

  • Not a preloader bar, but a movie progress bar

    I have a Flash slide show, and need to be able to tell the
    viewer how far along they are within it. Something similiar to what
    you see at the bottom of a Quicktime movie. Is this possible in
    Flash?

    Gailspencer,
    > I have a Flash slide show, and need to be able to tell
    the
    > viewer how far along they are within it. Something
    similiar
    > to what you see at the bottom of a Quicktime movie. Is
    > this possible in Flash?
    This is possible, but the complexity involved depends on how
    you've laid
    out the rest of your slide show. If your slides are linear
    along the main
    timeline, then you might just be able to tween a
    circle-shaped symbol along
    a track-shaped symbol -- no ActionScript involved. That would
    indicate
    progress but wouldn't be draggable or otherwise interactive.
    If your slide
    show is *not* linear (maybe you're using nested movie clips,
    for example)
    then the complexity increases.
    A programmed approach might take note of the total frames in
    a given
    movie clip (including the main timeline) and also take note
    of the current
    frame, then use that ratio -- frame 5 of 65, say -- to
    position a
    circle-shaped symbol along its track. To position objects
    with
    ActionScript, you simply have to set its x or y property as
    desired. In
    ActionScript 2.0, that would be _x and _y for movie clip
    symbols. In Flash,
    just about everything can be considered an object, and
    objects are defined
    by their (usually) namesake classes. Think of a class as a
    blue print or
    template used to create an object of a certain kind. Movie
    clip symbols are
    defined by the MovieClip class, non-static text fields are
    defined by the
    TextField class, and so on. Classes typically have one or
    more of the
    following categories: properties (characteristics, such as
    MovieClip._x and
    _y), methods (things the object can do, such as
    MovieClip.gotoAndPlay()),
    and events (things the object can react to, such as
    MovieClip.onRollOver).
    If you plan to use ActionScript, and the total frames /
    current frame
    idea makes sense to you, check out the MovieClip._totalframes
    and
    MovieClip._currentframe properties. Here are a handful of
    short articles
    that may give you a leg up on how to retrieve and set
    property values, use
    methods, and the like.

  • Progress bar  in text environemnt..

    I am trying to run the following in order to create a progress bar and show some activity during run time of my program.
    The problem lies i believe in maven as i running JUnit tests and in order to work maven is used.
    If the JUnit is runned inside Eclipse then it works fine , but trying to run it through my terminal running mvn test doesnt.
    There is nothing i can change in this, it was here when i come and it works perfectly for eveyone else.
    The problem i am facing is that out.print will not be executed until a println is.
    I am wondering if someone that has used maven before has any experience in how to by bypass this problem and add my progress bar in my system.
    source code ....
               * Creating of the activity bar diagram. ** Maven fault doesnt allow print **
               * @param text
               * @param backspaceSize
               * @return int
               *                The length of the string that was displayed, in order to be removed when called again.
              public static int activity(String text, int backspaceSize) {
                   // Setting the printstream
                   PrintStream pw = new PrintStream(System.out, false);
                   // in order to remove the previous text it will take the length and remove accordingly.
                    try {
                         for ( int i=0; i < backspaceSize ; i ++ ) {
                              pw.print("\b");
                        //seting the text to display
                        text = " " + getPosition() + " - " + text;           // append an expty space to distinquish from the whole one.
                        pw.print(text);
                        pw.flush();
                     } catch (Exception ex) {ex.printStackTrace();}
                 return text.length();
                   * Will return the value of the array to create an activity diagram
                   * @return Array value
                 private  static String getPosition (){
                    i++;
                   String array[] = {"\\","-","/","|"};
                   if ( i == 4) { i = 0 ; }
                   return array;

    If it works for everyone else, are you using the same version of maven?
