Printing user information into a magnetig stripe

Hi everyone,
One of our costumers wants to print their access cards directly from SAP, putting the personal data of the employee on a magnetic stripe.
Do you know if there is a list of supported printers/hardware providers that supports the direct printing from an SAP system?
Do you know if another costumers has implemented something like this? any ideas or workarounds to implement it?
Thanks in advance.
SL

Thanks for the information Darran. So you are saying I can put something like jdoe cisco123 050506 051106 group 10 and it will work? Do you think it can be done via Web?
Our goal is to allow guest access but let the tech support folks handle this. So if we can have them create an account, input expiration date and group, then we are doing good.
One has to wonder when Cisco will start working on accounts management in ACS. It is not very pleasing.
I will do this.
Thanks
Dwane

  • Importing NT User information into Portal

We are using Portal in an NT environment, and we have been able to get through the necessary single sign on issues.
Now, we need to pull our NT user information into Portal's user database, including all the groupings we already have set up so that we can take advantage of Portal's exceptional security features. This is key to our ability to use the product, and to our demo in a week.
The fact is we have 5,000 users to enter, and it is prohibitive for us to do that through the standard Portal APIs. We already have the users' input once in NT, we can get a flat file with all the information we need, we just need a way to get this information
into the appropriate tables within Portal's database.
Is there a script or some more "automated" way you can suggest for us to do this?

Maybe you could try to use an intermediate LDAP export file (ldif), since Active Directory is LDAP-based and you can plug a LDAP to your Portal SSO Login Server.
I only have tried exporting and importing using .ldif files up to now.
I also have heard about techniques to use NT user account info to log on to Portal ; 'could be easier.

  • Storing user information into session best practice.

I am developing an web application where user first have to login to be able to enter.
When user correctly logged in an UserAccount object with all user data (except loginName and Password) is being stored into session. An Filter is checking session for UserAccount object and if user correctly logged in forwards the request to the next filter in the application.
When user logged out, the session object is being destroyed. Session invalidate()
I would like to know if there are better solutions for this.
    Thank you in advance.
    --Nermin B.

You may want to also re-evaluate your "application" as a whole.
In most cases - yours may be the exception - session objects are used to well, associate a particular web browser with a particular user. There usually is little need to retain additional information about that person, unless that information is frequently accessed. I think Shok used a poor example; a person's address, phone number, credit card number and so on is usually accessed once per visit, whereas the contents of that person's shopping cart is generally accessed every time the user changes web pages.
The key concept here is you want to balance memory consumption verses database hits (or file i/o). Authorization info should be in the object, whereas general background info can be in the data source and accessed when needed.
If on the other hand, you don't have a data source, you don't really have much of a choice and a session object (or similarly, a JavaBean) should just go ahead and contain all of the information about the user.
To change the subject, session objects and JavaBeans are server side. As long as you keep a careful eye on the interfaces to those objects, you should be fine security wise. For example, if a person passes a parameter to your web page, make sure the parameter is anticipated and correct before you save it in the object. In other words, don't write a generic function that blindly accepts parameter names and values and sets them accordingly within the session object. The only place you should be able to set the password attribute is from the change-your-password JSP page.
Cookies on the other hand are definitely stored on the client's machine, and yes, you want to be really paranoid and make sure that the cookie you are retrieving is the cookie you are expecting. I think the source of confusion is that session ids corresponding to session objects can be stored within a cookie - so you if can change the id, the server thinks you are someone else and uses that person's session object.

  • Aski user information while trying to print a report from a web application

    Hi,
I am trying to print a report from web application. When I click on the print button then the page is redirected to the below link and asking for user information. See the below given link for more help.
    _http://<server><port>PlatformServices/service/app/logon.do?appKind=InfoView&service=%2FOpenDocument%2FappService.do&backContext=%2FOpenDocument&backUrl=%2Fopendoc%2FopenDocument.jsp%3FSERVICE%3D%252FOpenDocument%252FappService.do%26OBJIDS%3D20016421%26backUrl%3D%252Fcontent%252Fview.do%26PREF%3DmaxOpageUt%253D200%253BmaxOpageC%253D10%253Btz%253DUS%252FPacific%253BmUnit%253Dinch%253BshowFilters%253Dtrue%253BsmtpFrom%253Dtrue%253BpromptForUnsavedData%253Dtrue%253B%26CONTAINERID%3D6424083%26backContext%3D%252FPlatformServices%26LOC%3Den%26APPKIND%3DInfoView%26PVL%3Den%26ACTID%3D280%26service%3Dtimeout&backUrlParents=1&appName=OpenDocument&prodName=BusinessObjects+Enterprise&cmsVisible=false&cms=<servername>%3A6600&authenticationVisible=false&authType=secEnterprise&sso=false&sm=true&smAuth=secLDAP&persistCookies=true&sessionCookie=true&useLogonToken=true
The instance Id for the report is generated successfully and the staus of the report is showing as success on Business Objects server side ie. crystal server side.
And we are using OpneDocumentURL for generating the report. And the in the URL we are passing the "Instatce ID" and the "Token" which Both are generated successfully.

  • Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.

Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.
I'm NOT in any way a Terminal Services expert and I need help trying to get an application program working in a multi-user environment.
The issue is that the printer changes for every user that is logged in. The application needs to print NOT to the default printer, but to a "special" printer which is selected in the application... let's call it a label printer to simplify the explanation.
You have your default regular printer, easy for the application to find that one, and then you have a special printer that labels get printed onto. The application needs to know what printer is the label printer. So we allow the user to select that in the
application and the selection is stored in a config file in
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
I don't have access to the application so I can't change how this works.
In the "regular" world, selecting the label printer driver to use should be per machine, NOT per user. When a new user logs into a machine, the physical printer doesn't go "poof" and a new printer suddenly appear. Same printer for all
    users.
Yet in terminal services, the physical machine is "merged" with the virtual machine on the server. And there can be many users logged in at the same time. So each users real machine (and real printer) is injected into the "fake" terminal
services machine. The name of the printers is made unique for each user. So the printers DO go "poof" and change names depending on the user logged into terminal services.
So user "A" logs in and sets up the application to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" (or whatever the name of the printer happens to be), that setting is stored in the ProgramData subfolder, and all is well. Later, user "B" logs
in, and when they print, the application tries to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" which doesn't exist for user B or is only accessible by user A. If user B re-configures, that breaks it for user A.
SOLUTION 1: The way that /should/ work (in my mind) is that you define one "generic" printer in Terminal Services... call it "Virtual Label printer" and when the user wants to print to it, the print job gets re-directed back to whatever
physical printer is actually connected to their local workstation. There is a map of virtual printer to actual printer depending on the current user. The application is told once to print to "Virtual Label Printer" for all users.
SOLUTION 2: Or... there should be some way to make the ProgramData sub folders separate per user. E.g. when user "A" tries to access:
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    they actually get
    C:\UserData\UserA\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    and user "B" gets
    C:\UserData\UserB\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
So the question I have is: Does either of those solutions exist hidden somewhere in the setup of terminal server? Or is there another way around this issue that I don't know?

I don't really have a "for sure" answer to this, but because people here can't seem to deal with a question that hasn't been answered I'll provide the best answer I did receive from ServerFault.com user Nathan:
I can feel your pain with using old software on terminal servers ...the solution I've come up with definitely won't scale as it requires some manual configuration, but I've gotten this method to work with our label printers (which require to be
printed to an LPT port...yep, that old).
Share your USB-connected printers to the network on each machine. Then, have the user log in on aunique session for each of them
(a TS account cannot be shared among computers for this to work) and install a network printer pointing to the USB one they shared. Try to use a DNS name to account for possible DHCP movements.
After, it should work. Each user can do this since display names can be identical as long as the ports are different (which they are).
This was clarified by the following series of comments:
I think you are on to something here, and I originally advised the admin to do this. The problem he ran into is that it setup the printer names in the TS as "printer on usersworkstation"
and he could not rename it except to change the "printer" to whatever. E.g. the "on userworkstation" remained. I believe there is another way of installing the printer which avoids this, but I can't find it. Ages ago, one used to do NET
USE LPT2 \\computer\printer password /USER:domain\user /PERSISTENT:YES and then tell the driver to print to LPT2 –  James

@JamesNewton That's actually the exact method we used. The way around the "network printer" part is to install it as local printer and map it to a TCP/IP port that way. –  Nathan

You mean in the case where the printers are TCP/IP connected and not local USB / LPT to the users workstation? That makes sense. Wonder if this will work for USB connected printers... –  James

@JamesNewton You'd share the local printer on the client's PC then on the server connect via TCP/IP to it. You'd need static addresses or use DNS names if DHCP, though. –  Nathan

Ah. Yes. I see. Looks like the LPT thing should work even with a USB connected printer:superuser.com/questions/182655/… –  James

  • Possible to read user's Windows logon security information into my program?

I like to write a reservation program for serial number booking, and I was wondering if it is possible to record user information based on their Windows logon?

String userid = System.getProperty("user.name");That gives you the user ID which is currently signed on to the computer where the code is running. That may or may not help depending on the architecture of your application.

Thanks in advanced. If you're writing your own partner application, then you are correct to get the user information from the output variables
from the parse_url_cookie procedure. You should then set the information you want to keep track of in the cookie, or combination
of cookie and persistent storage in the database. Take care of the security implications while doing this.
On subsequent calls to your application, the user info should be obtained from the cookie and the database, if you
are using a combination of the cookie and database storage to keep your info.
The owa_cookie.get routine is used to read the cookie, which is generated with owa_cookie.send.
These routines work fine, when invoked correctly.
If you are having trouble with them, you're probably not using the calls properly.
The following code provides an example of how to use the owa_cookie calls...

  • PDF printing: user A clicks "print" and it prints to user B's computer!

I had a user call me up very distressed b/c she had tried to print a database report (using PDF to file, the only printer we have allowed) and turned out that it printed on another user's local computer instead of hers! Confidential information was shared unwillingly and she was very upset.
I looked further and it looks like in a shared account (multiple users logged into Win2003 w/ same username and password) when a user goes to print she can see a printer for each active session. We have "make pdf to file printer default in win2000/20003" checked.
What is going on? When a user goes to print from an application on our win2003 application server, she should only see ONE printer, not a printer for every active session. This seems like a horrible breach of security, trust, etc.
Hope I'm doing something wrong here.
We cannot create a new windows profile for each new user so we need to get this working in an environment where most of our accounts are shared.
    Thank you

OK, have done some testing and speaking w/ Microsoft people. If I understand correctly, here is what's happening:
When user A logs in, SGD autocreates a PDF printer for her with title "...session 1" and modifies the registry HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVerion\Windows\Device to make this newly created printer as the default printer.
If she prints, it goes to her local computer.
Then when user B logs in SGD does the same thing - it autocreates a printer and modifies the registry to set the default printer. Only now the default printer is "...session 2. Since SGD modifies the same registry key, user A's default printer is now "...session 2" as well so if user A prints to the default printer, the job will end up on user B's local computer because user B's session is session 2.
Sun - since SGD handles session management, can't it tell which RDP session a print job is coming from and direct it to the correct client?

  • Printing Crystal reports into adobe-hyperlinks arent getting created

We use a third party program, iMIS to print confirmations.  These confirmations are created in Crystal Reports.  When i print these documents to adobe not all hyperlinks are coded.
If i export the document to word then print that document into adobe it has the embedded hyperlinks.  (But this way entails alot of extra steps to create, and no normal user will want to do this)
Is there anyway i can get the embedded hyperlinks to print straight into adobe? (without having to do the many extra steps it takes to export to word then to adobe)
(it is very frustrating, b/c i am the one that created these 'cool' reports but no one is getting the information.)

If Crystal Reports supports creation of a PDF with PDF Link annotations it will be discussed in the Crystal Reports Support/User documentation. If it is not supported then you'll have to accept the Crystal Reports limitation and continue with the "2-step" shuffle.
At its core the issue is with Crystal Reports rather than PDF or Acrobat.

  • How to write log information into SM37 batch job log

    Hi,
I have a report running in batch mode, and I would like to log the start time and end time for some part of the code (different Function modules). I need to write this log information into the batch job log. Therefore I can check the time frame of my FMs.
After search the SDN, I can only get some information on how to write log into the application log displayed in SLG1, but that's not I want. I want to write batch log information, and check it in SM37.
If you have some solution or code to share, please. Thanks a lot.
    Best Regards,
    Ben

    Hi Nitin
Thanks for the reply. Could you explain it with some code ?
I tried to use the write statement , but it did not wrok. I could not see the result in SM37.
write : "start of the FM1 processing".
    FM1 code
write : "end of the FM1 processing".
but those two statement did not show in SM37..
    1) how to use  a information message  ?
    2) how to use NEW PAGE PRINT ON and PRINT OFF command. ?
I would appreciate if you can write some code ,that I can use directly.
    Thanks a lot.

  • When printing a list in Address Book, how can I select more than the default Attributes and keep them selected when I print again? I want to print ALL information for contacts so I have email address, notes, phone, company, title, etc all on one page.

When printing a list in Address Book, how can I select more than the default Attributes and keep them selected when I print again? I want to print ALL information for contacts so I have email address, notes, phone, company, title, etc all on one page. I don't want to have to check off an additional 5 or 6 attributes each time I print out contact information. Is there a way to change the default setting for printing lists, so it is not just "phone," "photo," and "job title?"

I have a user who wants to do this same thing. I did not find any way either to default the attributes to anything other than what you see the first time. Seems like such a trivial thing, hard to believe they do not allow it. I did find a program for this called iDress but I can't seem to download it from any links on the Internet. Not sure if it is free or not, but it was recommended by a link on the Mac support site.

provided is already associated with another user on this site.  Please log in with the user information originally used with this Office 2007  Product Key.
That's crap - This is a clean brand spanker install of Win7 and there was  nothing b4 I put the oem drivers from Toshiba back on.
I looked at dozens of support pages and forum blogs and tried for hours to  get a copy to download - including incognito and other logins but because my  default PC name is also my MS Windows live ID the same error was repeated.
I keep away from the non MS sites for these things and with good reason -  there were heaps of similar users with the same issue or very close to it that  had downloaded from a supposed MS copy from eValue or digital river etc and the  next
thing was total corruption of the OS.
EVENTUALLY I found a LIVE MS chat on a support site in the US and she gave  me a link to a slightly older version which will need updating and some reg edit  changes but so far, so good.
The point is - what a crock !
I should be able to just keep all my software, drivers, updates, service  packs, and versions that I have upgraded in the MS store.
If Microsoft aren't going to support XP or Office 2003 and eventually 2007,  vista & Windows7 not far behind??? then that's still no excuse for them to  put these restrictions and limits when I OWN my copy of the software!!
Unlike office 365 and SkyDrive space which is described in the T&C  (that we all read before ticking that radial button to agree of course) as ONLY  under a leased licence.
IF Microsoft can support AND develop software that supports SQL2000  Servers, why is it so hard to archive and keep the same info for  everyone???

Over the years I have had many ISP and email addresses - but now we have  finally gone almost fully virtual...
I have a live login and MS ID 4 my SkyDrive account but I only use my MS  touch with 8.1, SkyDrive and office 365 for mobility.
And I still like to backup to my own server!!!
What would be good is if I can put all the software licenses and product  keys of the software and keep a record of my mac addresses for  hardware  and even static IP's in a file or a secure location within the MS online  store.
That's where MS wants me to get my computing needs from in future and I  will always be able to retrieve it in future but what about the $$$$$ I have  spent on software, hardware and applications prior to now???
I know u guys love 2 collect data 4 marketing analysis,
4 example I have an old PC that is still running a server from last century  - if you knew about it a simple script would allow you to offer upgrades or at  least relevant MS products - UNLIKE the rubbish adds I just turn off or tune out
    now...
Why cant I add products previous online email purchases into the 1 MS live  ID account where I can keep it together? If you make that available I don't have  to have separate steam accounts, EA game accounts, ASUS and adobe accounts etc
    etc.
