Privileges required for database backup with RMAN

Hello,
We have 10g R2 on Solaris box. We use RMAN for backup and use the SYS account on the database to connect and take the backup.
Are there specific privileges that are required to take the database backup , so that I do not use the SYS account or the syspassword in the RMAN script.
I want to create an account and give only the privileges required to take the database backup and recover .
Thanks

I think RMAN needs the SYSDBA privilege, so you won't gain much by switching from SYS to another user.
You don't need to store sys/password in a script. You can just :-
rman target / catalog xxx/yyy@catalog

    Rman is so feature rich and yiou can integrate your third party backup software with rman to take backups, there is nothing to worry in your case, this is very much in the reach.

  • User privilege level for configuration backup with PI 1.2

    We have more than 50 devices handling by PI 1.2 (testing) I like to know how to do configuration archiving with user who doesn't have write privilege.
    I tried like this.
    username john privilege 6 password cisco
    privilege exec level 6 show running-config
    (result) show run --> blank
      I tried this user with one of switch in PI 1.2. It did not do configuration backup
    username inout password inout
    username inout privilege 15 autocommand show running-config
    (result) once logged in, it automatically showed running-config. However when I tried with PI 1.2 with this user (inout). I couldn't do configuration back.

    so, my question is this. what is the solution for me to create certain user with read-only privilege while PI 1.2 is able to do configuration archiving ?
    thanks in advance

    7.4 MSE code will in fact require an update of Prime 1.2 to 1.3.0.20-
    It's pretty easy though and your licenses will still work from the Prime Infra side.
    Here's a link to upgrade PI to 1.3

    I personally would go ahead with the upgrade of both:::

  • Physical Standby Database Creation with RMAN

    Hi,
    I'm in 10g on Linux. I want to create a standby database on another Linux server. I did not find a clear procedure to create it in Oracle® Database Backup and Recovery Advanced User's Guide 10g Release 2 (10.2) Part Number B14191-02
    and niether in Oracle® Data Guard Concepts and Administration 10g Release 2 (10.2) B14239-04
    In the last one chapter 3 sends you to F appendix and F appendix says do nothing before having than all in chapter 3 :
    In F.1.1 page F-2 it is said :
    See Chapter 3 for a complete discussion of physical standby database preparation,including initialization parameter settings. You must perform all necessary preparation tasks described in these chapters before RMAN can successfully create the standby database files and mount the standby database.
    Any way I'm looking for a procedure or clear article to create it.
    Many thanks before.

    Physical Standby Database Creation with RMAN
    Use the DUPLICATE command.

    Dear Friends
    can u tell me how to restore an incremental backup with rman? i backup my rman with statement below :
    1. backup full database format '/oracle/PRD/sapbackup/%U';
    the results was :
    -rw-r----- 1 oraprd dba 19006996480 Jun 10 12:08 0ojiit4n_1_1
    -rw-r----- 1 oraprd dba 12746752 Jun 10 12:08 0pjiiu6b_1_1
    2. after that i do incremental backup :
    backup incremental level 1 cumulative database format '/oracle/PRD/sapbackup/%U';
    the results was :
    -rw-r----- 1 oraprd dba 173400064 Jun 10 13:44 0ujij2k0_1_1
    -rw-r----- 1 oraprd dba 12746752 Jun 10 13:44 0vjij3qc_1_1
    what statement i need to run for restore the incremental backup?

    run{
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL c1 DEVICE TYPE DISK;
    RESTORE DATABASE;
    RECOVER DATABASE;
    The above command will restore your database from the last good RMAN backup. Your last backup is incremental level backup as you posted. The above command will fullfill your requirements

  • Hot Backup with RMAN question.

    Hi all.
    We want to make a full backup with RMAN every night with the db up. Version 9i in archive log mode.
    My question is if with the command:
    backup database plus archivelog delete input format 'MY_FORMAT_STRING';
    will store all the files needed for the recovery in one file or I need to backup some other file or do more actions. The backup will be consistent?
    Regards.

    By using this command you are only taking the backup
    all the database files plus all the archived logs
    needed for point on recovery.
    But still you will have to take the backup of Control
    file and parameter files. Which you do by configuringi think its not
    RMAN> configure controlfile autobackup off
    2> ;
    old RMAN configuration parameters:
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
    new RMAN configuration parameters:
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP OFF;
    new RMAN configuration parameters are successfully stored

    RMAN>backup database backup controlfile as well spfile but its better backup control file separately after backing up the database plus archivelog cause a backup set info within control file which will not be in control file which is just backed up by backup database .

  • TCODE FOR DATABASE BACKUP

    Hi All,
    Please let me know the complete procedure for to take backup of all database tables in request form.
    Mean What is tcode for taking backup of all database in 3  requests?
    Thanks In Advance.

    Hi Naveen.
    I would like to suggest,
    The Transaction code for backups is DB13.
    Generaly, the transactions related to DB backup management start with DB letters.
    I would like to suggest a few references,
    [SAP HELP - Standard References for Database backup by BR Tools|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/0c/cd271365debc42bef96ac7fd907787/content.htm]

    Hope that's usefull.

  • What are the minimum db user privileges required for CDC?

    What are the minimum privileges required for the source data server user in order to to successfully implement CDC
    Currently I'm getting an "Insufficient privileges" error when trying to start a CDC journal on a model. The error is happening on the step that creates a trigger on the table in the source schema.
    Here's the situation:
    The data server uses the user "ODI_TEMP" for its connection. ODI_TEMP has been granted select privileges on the desired tables in the source schema. When starting the CDC journal on the model for the source schema, ODI tries to create a trigger on the source tables. This fails since the ODI_TEMP user can't create triggers on anything outside of it's own schema. For obvious fundamental security reasons, we cannot give the ODI_TEMP user the CREATE ANY TRIGGER system privilege on the data source.
    Journalizing is set up using JKM Oracle Consistent. ODI is 11g, DB is 11g.

    Hi,
    You can go for this
    Grant CREATE ANY TRIGGER system privilege to ODI_TMP
    Start the Journal , it will create triggers in ODI_TMP schema for the tables present in your source schema.
    Now revoke CREATE ANY TRIGGER system privilege from ODI_TMP.
    It will continue to work .. only when you are restarting the journal (due to adding or removing some tables in CDC) , you will be requiring CREATE ANY TRIGGER privilege.
    Thanks,
    Sutirtha

    Hello I bought a G-Raid GR4 4000 4 TB and used it for a backup with my new Imac27. Now this is all I get. "Time Machine couldn’t complete the backup to “G-RAID”. to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder."
    Any idea what I should do?

    If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
    Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
    If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the search box.
    If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
    When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
    Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
    Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — anonymize before posting.

  • Is ADF meant for database designed with vertical schema ?

    Hi,
    I want to know if ADF 11g is meant for database designed with vertical schema where even the column names will be rows in a generic table?
    Thanks in advance.
    Edited by: user8925296 on Apr 12, 2010 10:06 AM

    The short answer is no...
    What you are calling a "vertical schema" is what others have called an entity-attribute-value or universal data model schema. I'd advise you to do some open-minded research about these types of schemas if you are developing a new application before you proceed. They sound great in practice, but have quite inherent usability and scalability issues. ORA-19566: exceeded limit of 0 corrupt blocks for file /oracle/DEV/sapdata2/dev640_6/dev640.data6
    Please help me how to resolve this issue.

    Hi,
    Please perform DBverify Job and Also analyze the alert<SID>.log file for your Database to get more information about such logical or physical corruption.  You may require Block level recovery for the complained DB Files. Please refer this useful document " [Early Detection and Correction of Data Block Corruptions Using RMAN |http://www.ioug.org/client_files/members/select_pdf/04q4/RMAN.pdf]" and share the same with your Oracle DBA.
    You can execute the following commands to get information about corrupted block(s), if its there.

  • Finding file sizes for target DFs with RMAN

    Hi,
    Does anybody know how to find the size of datafiles with RMAN database, when the entire target database is lost ?
    I have a full and incremental backup of the database using RMAN. Because of the way target db is physically laid on disks, I need to do "setext" to create data files of proper size before restoring them from RMAN backup.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kiran.

    Dear user522620,
    Have you created, configured and synchronized the catalog? Have you even registered the backed up database to your catalog? Have the user that backs up the database got the recovery_catalog_owner privilege?
    What is your connection string before backing up the database? Have you connected to your recovery catalog database?
    Please can you show the connection string? I think you have missed to connect to the recovery catalog database.
    # rman target sys/password catalog backup_owner/password@oracle_sid
