Prob. CF7 using jConnect to Sybase ASA 9  on Win2K3 Srv.

hi there
I have this setup: Standard CF7.0.2 running on Win2K3.
Database ist Sybase ASA 9.
In other messages, I wrote about CFs ODBC server not working.
So I was told to use jConnect which I tried.
Neiher the CF Admin can use that jConnect mounting nor would
the cf application work.
The following happens now:
- creating a new database with ASA.
- I fire up a new db-engine and mount the database
- I add a new non-dba user
- in CF's data sources Admin I use other driver to declare
the jConnect parameters to that DB.
- I let CF validate the parameters. It succeeds woth both,
the dba and the non-dba user
- I stop the database engine and mount the same database to
the database server running as a service on that machine
- I let CF revalidate the connections and CF fails with
" java.sql.SQLException: JZ00L: Login failed."
Sybase Admin Tool is a native Java application and it has
never problems connecting to the db regardless how it is mounted.
So, it seems that the failure has something to do with access
rights. When doing the interactive tests, I am logged in as a
Win2K3 Administrator. When the database is mounted to the server
running as a service, it won't work.
Adobe, any clues what ACLs must be applied or are required?
Any pointers to that?
It's quite urgent, because we cannot migrate from an CFMX 6.1
to the CF7 because of this.
Thank you

Hi Ken
Thank you for your post: I tried it immediately.
FYI: it does not work and both ways give me the same result:

    Hi
How to connect sybase database in JDeveloper 11g using JConnect? Please help.

    User,
It would help if you explained Sybase Jconnect instead of leaving us to google.
At any rate, it appears you need to create a library definition in JDeveloper, add the appropriate JConnect JAR files to the library's classpath, and then add the library to your project.

  • Sybase ASA 8 HELP HELP HELP

    Hi,
I have a problem capturing the schema information for a sybase ASA 8 database. I created a new database and included the JConnect Metadata in the table. When I connect from Sun One Studio and capture the schema it does not have the primary keys or indexes. It appears to not retrieve the metadata. In the database explorer the column is red which means it is getting the primary key info there on the connection but not when I capture the schema. I have tried to upgrade the database by hand with the scripts but there is no change.. I am using the JConnect 5_5 that came with the install of ASA 8. What do I need to do to get this to work, Without this PK information we cannot use CMP.

Have you installed the meta data stored procedures and tables? The file is 'sql_asa.sql' in the JConnect5.5 zip under the "sp" directory.
    Check the documentation for details.

  • Can I format the CF in a cisco 1800 router and then use it on the ASA 5520?

Can I format Compact Flash in a cisco 1800 router and then use it on the ASA 5520?

You don't have to format the card in the router. You can do that on your PC. Just format the CF-card as FAT32 and plug it into the ASA.
BUT: If you just want to "upgrade" the old card with a different one, then first attach the original card from the ASA to your PC and copy all files (including the hidden ones) to your PC and then copy them back to the new card. That way you also move your licenses to the new card which are stored in hidden files and your private data like keys.

PeterYes there is, but it involves some driver-specific properties, and I know this from

  • Teststand/SyBase ASA database problem

We have a SyBase SQL Anywhere Studio 8.0.1 database for Teststand.
We use the default schema with recordset(SELECT) with the ASA ODBC driver (dbodbc8.dll).
When running our Teststand application against the SyBase database, a new row is inserted OK in the parent table UUT_RESULT, but it's not able to retrieve the foreign key value for the next recordset from UUT_RESULT.ID (It tries to create a new row with FK-value 0, wich violates the RI constrict).
We get the following Run-Time Error dialog:

    Hello Ola -
There are only a few things that I can think of to try in your case as I am not familiar with your database. The first thing to check is on the 'Statements' tab for your table, investigate the settings of your 'Cursor Location' to make sure it is pointing to the server. This way you can guarantee that whatever you're seeing will be what the server sees. If you toggle this setting to 'server' and behavior doesn't change, or if your database is already working with a server cursor, then you may want to consider having the client side define the key via a GUI ID. Unfortunately we at National Instruments cannot provide much advice about how to build keys for databases, we recommend you look into the tools provided with your database software to find fun
ctions / procedures that could help. One additional item is, it sounds as though you are using the ODBC driver when talking to your database, it might be worth it to try communicating with your database via the provider's specific driver.

  • Using ACS with PIX/ASA

    Hi there,
We have an implementation of Cisco Secure ACS 4.1.4 using RSA SecurID as its authentication source to provide role-based access control and command level authorisation.
We have succesfully deployed this our routers/switches, and are now looking at configuring Cisco PIX/ASA devices to use ACS and have stubbled across issues.
Config on PIX/ASA (note we actually have 4 ACS servers defined for resilience etc):
    aaa-server XXXXX protocol tacacs+
    accounting-mode simultaneous
    reactivation-mode depletion deadtime 1
    max-failed-attempts 1
    aaa-server XXXXX inside host <SERVER>
    key <SECRET>
    timeout 5
aaa authentication telnet console XXXXX LOCAL
aaa authentication enable console XXXXX LOCAL
aaa authentication ssh console XXXXX LOCAL
aaa authentication http console XXXXX LOCAL
aaa authentication serial console XXXXX LOCAL
    aaa accounting command XXXXX
    aaa accounting telnet console XXXXX
    aaa accounting ssh console XXXXX
    aaa accounting enable console XXXXX
    aaa accounting serial console XXXXX
    aaa authorization command XXXXX LOCAL
    Problems:
Enter PASSCODE is NOT displayed on first attempt to logon to the PIX/ASA because it does not attempt to communicate with ACS until username/pass is sent.
Username with null password (e.g. CR) will correctly then display Enter PASSCODE prompt received from ACS.
PIX/ASA does not attempt to authenticate against all configured TACACS+ servers in one go, instead it tries each sequentially per authentication attempt….e.g.
    1st Attempt = Server 1
    2nd Attempt = Server 2
    3rd Attempt = Server 3
    4th Attempt = Server 4
This means that in total failure of ACS users will have to attempt authentication N+1 times before failing to LOCAL credentials depending on number of servers configured, this seems to be from setting "depletion deadtime 1" however the alternative is worse:
With “depletion timed” configured, by the time the user has attempted authentication to servers 2,3 and 4 the hard coded 30 second timeout has likely elapsed and the first server has been re-enabled by the PIX for authentication attempts, as such it will never fail to local authentication locking the user out of the device, the PIX itself does warn of this with the following error:
“WARNING: Fallback authentication is configured, but reactivation mode is set to
timed. Multiple aaa servers may prevent the appliance from ever invoking the fallback auth
    mechanism.”
The next issue is that of accounting.....AAA Accounting does not record “SHOW” commands or session accounting records (start/stop) or “ENABLE".
The final issue is ASDM. We can login to ASDM successfully using ACS/RSA SecurID, however when a change is made to the configuration ASDM repeatedly sends the users logon credentials multiple times.
As RSA SecurID token can only be used once this fails and locks the account.
Any ideas on how to make two of Ciscos leading security products work together better?

Just re-reading the PIX/ASA 7.2 command reference guide below:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa72/command/reference/crt_72.pdf
It appears some of the above are known issues.
    PASSCODE issue, page 2-17 states:
We recommend that you use the same username and password in the local database as the
AAA server because the security appliance prompt does not give any indication which method is being used.
Failure to LOCAL, page 2-42 states:
You can have up to 15 server groups in single mode or 4 server groups per context in multiple mode. Each group can have up to 16 servers in single mode or 4 servers in multiple mode. When a user logs in, the servers are accessed one at a time starting with the first server you specify in the configuration, until a server responds.
    AAA Accounting, page 2-2 states:
To send accounting messages to the TACACS+ accounting server when you enter any command other than show commands at the CLI, use the aaa accounting command command in global configuration mode.
    ASDM issue, page 2-17 states:
HTTP management authentication does not support the SDI protocol for AAA server group
So looks like all my issues are known "features" of PIX/ASA integration with ACS, any ideas of how to achieve a "slicker" integration?
Is there a roadmap to improve this with later versions of the OS?
Will the PIX/ASA code ever properly support the same features as IOS?
Would it be better to look at using something like CSM instead of ASDM?

  • Need for use Standby IP in ASA

    Hi all,
when we config DHCP pool in ASA   and config the VLAN  and assign it IP address.
Why we use Standby IP ?How can Primary address fail if they are on same interface
    Thanks
    Mahesh

So this secondary IP is on backup fw then?
    Yes.
Does it mean that if  Main Fw says powered off  then if i ssh to fw then still i will see the same fw hostname?
Also then which vlan IP it will show  under vlan ?
It will show same hostname and same vlan
if we have 2 fw in cluster and i log onto fw it shows info of only 1 fw is there a way i can get info of another fw in cluster
or i can login to backup fw?
You can log in to the backup or you can run commands from the primary unit but get the info from the secondary with the command:
         failover exec standby show run

  • How to use Avro Serialization for ASA input

    Hi There,
I am trying to use Avro serialization format for Streaming Analytics input data. I am using Event Hub as my data source. Based on the answer to a similar question in this forum about CSV format, it seems like ASA expects header/schema information to
be included with each event, rather than defined externally. So, each of my input events is a proper Avro Data File, with schema included followed by multiple binary records. I have tried to verify this format using the "Test" button in the Azure
Streaming Portal. When I upload a file containing my Avro event, the portal returns "Unable to parse JSON" error. I have double checked that my input is indeed marked as Avro serialization and not JSON.
Can you let me know what the expected Avro data format is?

    Olafjell -
Which schema are you using, recordset(SELECT) or command(INSERT), and are you using and ODBC driver or a specific OLE-DB provider?
If you are using a select statement then when the UUT record is created, the database logger tries to find out what the value was so that it can write that value for the foreign key for the steps. Make sure that the statements in the schema are using a server side cursor for your tables so that if the database ODBC driver or provider that you are using can retrieve the key value from the database right after it creates the UUT record. If you are using server side cursors and this problem still occurs, it may be that the database ODBC driver or provider does not support getting the key value after the record is cre
    ated.
Your only option might be to use command(INSERT) schema that generates key values in someway. The built in support is using an generated GUID value.
Also with some work, if supported, you could use stored procedures to generate the key.

You can look at Cisco Prime Collaboration Assurance if you're willing to upgrade to 10.0; they have started providing a free Standard license. They of course hope to upsell you to Advanced but the goal is for Standard to be an alternative to RTMT. There are also a plethora of ecosystem partners with product offerings in the Developer Marketplace.
