Problem compiling JSP
I tried one example from the tutorial for developing in J2EE, well I have this JSP page with this code:
<%@ page import="Converter,ConverterHome,javax.ejb.*, java.math.*, javax.naming.*, javax.rmi.PortableRemoteObject, java.rmi.RemoteException" %>
<%!
private Converter converter = null;
public void jspInit() {
try {
InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
Object objRef = ic.lookup("java:comp/env/ejb/TheConverter");
ConverterHome home = (ConverterHome)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(objRef, ConverterHome.class);
converter = home.create();
} catch (RemoteException ex) {
System.out.println("Couldn't create converter bean."+ ex.getMessage());
} catch (CreateException ex) {
System.out.println("Couldn't create converter bean."+ ex.getMessage());
} catch (NamingException ex) {
System.out.println("Unable to lookup home: "+ "TheConverter "+ ex.getMessage());
public void jspDestroy() {
converter = null;
%>
<html>
<head>
<title>Converter</title>
</head>
<body bgcolor="white">
<h1><b><center>Converter</center></b></h1>
<hr>
<p>Enter an amount to convert:</p>
<form method="get">
<input type="text" name="amount" size="25">
<br>
<p>
<input type="submit" value="Submit">
<input type="reset" value="Reset">
</form>
<%
String amount = request.getParameter("amount");
if ( amount != null && amount.length() > 0 ) {
BigDecimal d = new BigDecimal (amount);
%>
<p>
<%= amount %> dollars are <%= converter.dollarToYen(d) %> Yen.
<p>
<%= amount %> Yen are <%= converter.yenToEuro(d) %> Euro.
<%
%>
</body>
</html>
and I deployed this application, but when I started server gets this message:
org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP
Generated servlet error:

This is very strange it looks like it doesn't recognize classes to import
Thanx in forward.
Probably you are looking at some older example code.
As of Java 1.4, it is no longer possible for Tomcat to find classes that are not in a package. ALL java classes should be in a package in order to work with Tomcat.
This change to the JDK broke a lot of simple example/tutorial code which didn't use packages.
Solution:
Modify the classes Converter.java and ConverterHome.java to be in a package
eg
package com.mypackage
public class Converter
-> /WEB-INF/classes/com/mypackage/Converter.class
Alternative solution: find a newer tutorial which doesn't provide examples where classes are not in packages.

Problems compiling jsps using WLS6.1sp3 as Win2k service
Two related issues:
Issue #1:
I'm encountering an error where the javac compiler cannot be found (when
trying to compile jsps) when running as a Windows Service. JAVA_HOME is set
in the profile and I'm passing in E:\bea\jdk131\bin in the extrapath
parameter of beasvc.exe. The error I get is a file permission exception -
unable to access (read) C:\WINNT\System32\javac. Question is - why is it
looking there and not in JAVA_HOME? To try and isolate this, I've removed
everything from the PATH and CLASSPATH environment variables except for
E:\bea\jdk131\bin but to no avail.
Issue #2:
I've also tried hard-coding the location E:\bea\jdk131\bin\javac.exe into
the config.xml and weblogic.xml. The error is then a file permission
exception - unable to access (read) .\E:\bea\jdk131\bin\javac. Note the
initial dot-slash... however, the weblogic.policy file is set to allow
read,execute access for all files and directories below E:\bea (I've even
tried to grant a permission to .\E:\....... but that didn't work either)
Hope someone can help - it's been driving me nuts for a week now! What do I
need to do to get Weblogic to find javac when running as a Windows Service?Hi Sudha
Plese see the error in the starting post. Do u agree with me now? The server is looking for org.apache.jsp.techSupport_jsp class.

what i need to do to come out of this??You can load the JSP in the browser and add a jsp_precompile parameter, something like:

Any mistakes will end up being displayed in the browser, but the JSP will never get executed should it contain no programming mistakes. -
I am unable to compile my jsp file whan they are kept in public_html?I have javac in d:\jdk1.2\bin.I installed my weblogic in d:\weblogic.Any help in this regard is very highly apriciated.I really need it very badly.
add C:\Tomcat\webapps\examples\WEB-INF\classes to your classpath.
You can do this through the control panel or by:
set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;C:\Tomcat\webapps\examples\WEB-INF\classes -
Re: Problem Compiling JSP
in your login.jsp change this line
<%@ page import="DBConnect" %>
to this
<%@ page import="DBConnect.*" %>Hi Khalidali63
thanks for your help, but I tried
<%@page import="DBConnect.*" > and still received the same errors. I did manage to resolve the errors by adding my class DBConnect to a package DVD and then I used the directive <%@page import="DVD.DBConnect" > and it WORKED!!!

Urgent Solution needed--Problem in JSP compilation with JDK 1.5 and JDK 1.6
Hi,
I m using JDK 1.5 and Tomcat 5.0 the problem is that after starting server when I m going to access my application at that time instead of displaying HomePage it directly display the blank page on screen.
After analyzing tomcat log I have found that there was a problem with JSP page compilation.
The exception logged in Tomcat Log is given below
An error occurred at line: 1 in the generated java file

After getting this kind of error I have analyzed my code furhter then I came to know that there was problem with static include tag.
In my jsp page I have used following line which is the main cause of error
<%@ include file="top.jsp" %>If I ommit this line then it is working properly.
Instead of static include I have used jsp:include also.
Still I m getting same problem.
We have to migrated from JDK 1.5 to 1.6 and Tomcat 5.0.28 to 6.0.14, still same problem is there.
We have tried a lot but didnt get success to overcome this problem.
If anybody having any solution then ur each reply will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance..........!!!!!!!
Edited by: JBOSS2000 on Jan 15, 2008 9:29 AMHi "mshanu" and "amit" Thanks for ur replies Here I m posting the code of "top.jsp"........!!!!
<%@ page errorPage="errordisplay.jsp"%>
<table cellpadding="0"
cellspacing="0" height=50 width=780>
<tbody>
<tr class="header">
<td class="logo"><IMG SRC="assets/Logo.gif" BORDER=0 ALIGN=top></td>
<td align="right"><span class="applicationtitle"><%@ include file="/contents/logo.htm" %></span><br>
<span class="companyname"><%@ include file="/contents/companyname.htm" %></span></td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>To include top.jsp I have tried
<jsp:include page="top.jsp" flush="true">
</jsp:include>
AND
<%@ include file="top.jsp"%>but none of this worked.
If I remove the include then It is working properly.
But I need inluded file too so that I am wondoring for the solution.
This problem seems very wiered to me. I dont know why it is happening.
This problem is started only when I used the TOMCAT 6.14.
Is it the bug of TOMCAT 6.14 or What somebody Plz help.
I got stuck here.........!!!!!!!!!!
It doesn't seem any problem with top.jsp. As per my thinking the problem is there in include due to that it doesn't compile the JSP page in Tomcat 6.0.
Earlier I am having same code running on the Tomcat 5.0.28 and JDK 1.5.0.
But problem occured when I have used Tomcat 6.x...!! -
I've been trying to do the tutorials in a book titled Apache Jakarta-Tomcat as part of my introduction to JSP. I'm new to Java but do know the basics. I have on my machine Java 1.3, Java 1.4, Java FrameWorks 2.1 and Jython 2.1 on Win2000 Pro. So enough about my configuration. I have never worked with packages also.
I downloaded the files from the books site due to the fact I make a lot of typos when hand coding Java (I've become a pretty good debugger of my own code). But everytime I go to compile the *.java I get error messages. So below you will find HelloTag.java and beneath that the error messages that are thrown when I try and compile it. I tested other bits of *.java and have had no problem compiling them. Is there a JSP module I'm missing?
Am I doing something wrong or am I missing something from my configuration.

9 errorsWell, it looks like you've not got the servlet development kit JAR on your classpath. I think it'll probably be called servlet.jar on your system. Add that to the classpath if it's not already there.
Incidentally, you've bumped into one of the areas Java's slightly lenient - declaring a method that looks like a constructor:
public HelloTag() { }
public void HelloTag() { }The first is a constructor, the second is a normal method. I'm assuming you intended to have the former instead of the latter.
Anyway, hope this helps. -

I guess you are getting this error in Linux Env and not Windows. Basically SOA/BPM opens lots of files (JARs and WARs) and I guess it do not close them properly. The root cause for your error is something else. Here is the fix. This should work.
Login into the linux machine with the root user privileges. Or ask the person who have root privileges to do this. Basically you have to increase the open file limits to much bigger number like 8192.
To change the open file limits, login as root and edit the /etc/security/limits.conf file. If the following lines are already there, just change the number to 8192. Otherwise add below 2 lines exactly. Means for all the users on this OS, the nofiles is set to 8192, instead of single user.
* hard nofile 8192
* soft nofile 8192
after this, make sure to RESTART the Linux box. Otherwise changes will not get reflected.
Login into unix box from any client and run this command and it should return 8192
ulimit -n
Then start the soa server and you should be all set. Let me know if this fixes your issue (I am hoping it should).

Problem trying to run compile jsp containing JSTL tags
Hi,
I am facing a problem regarding compiling jsp containing JSTL tags.
Can anybody help me out?Yes it is giving an error when i try to compile the jsp.
And it's giving error on the include of the taglib in the jsp as
C:\dev\ppdev\DOMA\jspcompile\WEB-INF\jstl\c-rt.tld" is an invalid archive file!
Actually we are not using th default entry for taglib. Instead we have made an entry in the web.xml. Like this
<taglib>
<taglib-uri>/WEB-INF/c.tld</taglib-uri>
<taglib-location>/WEB-INF/jstl/c.tld</taglib-location>
</taglib>
<taglib>
<taglib-uri>/WEB-INF/c-rt.tld</taglib-uri>
<taglib-location>/WEB-INF/jstl/c-rt.tld</taglib-location>
</taglib>
And using this uri in the jsp page like this
<%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/c.tld" prefix="c" %>
<%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/c-rt.tld" prefix="c_rt" %>
And when we try to compie the jsp its giving the error.
C:\dev\ppdev\DOMA\jspcompile\WEB-INF\jstl\c-rt.tld" is an invalid archive file!
I would appreciate your help and update me if any more information is required. -
Problems placing compiled jsp in the right directory
I have problems placing compiled jsp in the right directory.
- My document root is weblogic/myserver/public_html
- My jsp's are placed in weblogic/myserver/public_html/ram/jsp.
- My folder for placing compiled jsp is in weblogic/myserver/compiled_jsp.
- When weblogic compiles my jsp it places them in
weblogic/myserver/compiled_jsp/jsp_servlet/_ram/_jsp
Now I want to compile ram1.jsp and place it in above directory. I tried the
following but it does not place class correct.
1: java weblogic.jspc -d C:\weblogic\myserver\compiled_jsp ram1.jsp
**** Places the class in weblogic/myserver/compiled_jsp/jsp_servlet
2: java weblogic.jspc -d
C:\weblogic\myserver\compiled_jsp\jsp_servlet\_ram\_jsp ram1.jsp
C:\weblogic\myserver\compiled_jsp\jsp_servlet\_ram\_jsp\jsp_servlet\_ram1.cl
ass
What am I doing wrong ?
cheers Per
I would try this...
cd public_html
java weblogic.jspc -prefix compiled_jsp ram/jsp/ram1.jsp
I'm not sure if -prefix is the exact option - something like that - maybe package_prefix.
As always, things work better/easier when you leave things at the default value
(jsp_servlet).

Problem in jsp with container(JEUS)
Hi I am a developer in Korea
Nowadays I have a problem in jsp pages which have contained some pakage directive in a library path
so my problem is changing some of the classes in the package during service time.
Error result is
-Root Exception stack trace :
-jeus.servlet.jsp.compiler.JspCompileException: fail to compile : source = C:\TmaxSoft\JEUS6.0\webhome\epims_container1\_generated_\j2ee-modules\harweb\jeus_jspwork\_custermg\_html\_mypage\_600_MyReqJob_5fjsp.java, -error msg = C:\TmaxSoft\JEUS6.0\webhome\epims_container1\_generated_\j2ee-modules\harweb\jeus_jspwork\_custermg\_html\_mypage\_600_MyReqJob_5fjsp.java:76: cannot access custermg.MyPageQuery
bad class file: C:\epims\harweb\WEB-INF\classes\custermg\MyPageQuery.class
-class file has wrong version 8241.8224, should be 49.0
-Please remove or make sure it appears in the correct subdirectory of the classpath.
- MyPageQuery myquery = null;
I don't know why this could be happed in random period of time It happens nearly each 10 hours . after this failure, the same error happen in other classes.
Before ten hours?.... No problem with the jsp pages
The number 8241.8224 tells me that it is not generated by java compiler but I don't have any clue but the above error
my run time environment is
- HP Server, Windows Server 2003, 64bit
- Jeus, jdk1.5.0_15
so any help from you will be appreciated...
thanksMr. Ahmed,
Excuse-me by my bad english.
I experienced the same problem when surrounded my scripts with comment caracters:
<!--
< SCRIPT ...
-->
If this is your case, simply uncomment it and the script will work fine. -

How to compile jsp project on the plateform of Myeclipse and jboss
hi :-) this is not eclipse forum and not that sure about your problem but i'll try to answer :-)
i'm not sure how you create your war but there something wrong with your web.xml. kindly check it :-)
by d way, you can deploy your project in my-eclipse by
- right click on the project then select my-eclipse > Add and Remove Project Deployment's
- a new window will open and you can now configure how you deploy your project :-)
other alternative edit your jboss-service.xml then put something like this
<attribute name="URLs">deploy/, file:/D:/workspace/deploy</attribute>
(note, change the path according to your needs)

Missing underscores when compiling JSP
Hi all,
I am running WebLogic 5.1 SP4 on RedHat Linux 6.2 and I have a problem
when compiling my jsp pages.
The problem is the package name created by the jsp engine. Say, I have a
jsp page called index.jsp in a directory called public. The compiler
ought to (I think) compile the page with the name public.index.java
but it tries to compile it as public.index.java which isn't possible
because the word 'public' is a reserved word in Java.
So my question is:
Is it possible to define the prefix of the name of the compiled jsp
pages?
And how do I do that?
Thanks
