PROBLEM Compressing FCP PROJECT into file for DVDPRO

**this is my information...**
I'm EXPORTING a FCP project which is 45 minutes in length. I EXPORT it to COMPRESSOR. COMPRESSOR opens and shows the FILE in up LEFT box where I drag Presets. It gives me the PROJECT NAME but in the little picture box it just shows the FCP ICON. I know when I EXPORT a QT movie of a FCP project, a frame of the project appears in the little box where I drag the presets. This time it doesn't. So I don't know if that's an issue. I'm using DVD preset "DVD: Best Quality 90 minutes". It begins to compress the FCP file which takes roughly 2 hours. I check and it says it's "successful". BUT when I open DVDPRO and import the project to burn there is only ONE FILE not TWO FILES which would be the AUDIO and the VIDEO file. so DVDPRO does not recognize this and it won't burn. What do I do? THANKS for you help. Andy

Try exporting the sequence as a self-contained file using "current settings". This should result in one file with all the quality of what was on the timeline. Make sure this is in a folder located on your scratch (non-system) drive.
Then, open up Compressor, drag in the just created file, apply the "DVD best 90 minutes" preset making sure both the m2v and ac3 compressor actions are included and set the output directory to "Source".
Let it run.
Do you have .m2v and .ac3 files located in the same folder as the original self contained .mov file when complete?

  • FCP Project - Collect Files for Export?

I have a FCP 7 project which is to be sent to someone to use.  I don't want them getting all the footage that has not been used - just all the clips on the timeline.  They are all individual clips pretty much shot on a 5D MKII.   Is there any way that I can collect/send just the used clips on the sequence without exporting a single quicktime file, or having to collect them all manually?

For Media Manager to work with only the footage used, your clips must have Reel Names assigned to them.
This is a unique identifier for the tape or card that your clips were taken from.
It can be added when you bring the footage in -example:
Or added in the Reel column of the Browser afterwards. You don't need Reel Names for graphics and still images or items such as Motion projects.
If your footage does not have a Reel Name, FCP assumes it came from a source which is not recapturable (a live camera feed is one possible scenario) and will save all of it even if you only used a few seconds.

  • How do I compress a 2 min FCP video into 100MB for web upload?

How do I compress a 2 min FCP video into 100MB for web upload?
I have FCP v.7 as a part of FCStudio
OK, this may seem like a stupid question for most of you but I haven't used FCP for years.  I am trying to make and upload a 2 min video to the web and don't know how to turn it into a size of 100MB or less.
Yes, I realize that I have Compressor but it does not work on my computer for some reason.  I think my laptop is too old for it or something.
It needs to be in one of these formats and I would like to use the highest quality.  Suggestions needed for this also since this will be my first attempt at an uploaded video.
.MOV, .WMV, .AVI, .MPG, .3GP, 3G2, .QTL, OR .MP4
    Any help would be wonderful!

First, let me apologize for the way we were chatting on your thread while waiting.
Let me summerize what I think we have here:
    1. You have a 2 minute show you want to convert to some codec appropriate for high quality presentation, but under 100MB final filesize.
    2. You feel you don't want to use Compressor or a preset for YouTube.
    3. You're in a hurry.
The fastest and highest quality method of making this conversion is using Compressor. It is designed to do precisely what you ask. The codec you want is H.264.
The YouTube preset is being suggested not because we think you're going to upload the clip to that site, but because the YouTube preset is a remarkably easy way to get a HQ H.264 clip with acceptable filesize. I'm staring at a 3:40 clip of 1080p that would knock your socks off and it's 90MB!
Even on a laptop the conversion is a matter of minutes.
If you're OK with my arguement, I'll write out a step-by-step proc for you and you can be done with this in time for that primetime show you want to watch.  OK?

  • How do I compress a huge flash file for a web banner?

    Hi there,
I am having trouble figuring out how to compress a huge flash file for a small web banner. I have 3 jpeg sequences (lowquality) that are used as background animations and the swf file is now over 900kb. I need a file under 200 or even 100.
    thank you for your attention,
    Ayka

The only way to reduce the size of the file is to reduce the sizes of the content it has.  If you go into your Flash Publish Settings and choose the option to generate a a size report then it will publish a report that will let you know how the weight of the file is distributed and you can focus on eliminating that weight from there.

I wouldn't judge. I've been to Arch for a week, you know? But as said, it's VERY close to it.
What I dislike after a week is makepkg not handling dependencies automatically (which would be overhead, so probably not appropriate).

Don't actually need that as said ... I see no real benefit of having that other than not beeing a KDE user or having Gentoos useflags.

  • How can I keep the edited video which in project into Libray for re-edit ?

How can I keep the edited video which in project into Libray for re-edit later ??
    As i used i movie 06 before....
after i imported the videos in to the library, then i can drag the videos to the timeline(now is project)
    then edit it.
After that i can just drag all the timeline clips which is edited to the library. So I can keep it for next time if i wanna re-edit.
But Now if did all the editing at the library clips then drag to project, i can not drag the project clips back to library, so how can i keep it for my editing safty?
I do not wanna to edit again the same clips from the library!!! as i need to edit many different short clips together then export to individual videos, and i may need to re-edit.
or i can keep the edited video in project, then i can selected the clips which i willing to export, the rest video who in the project will not be export at the same video? I m wondering....
    please help!!! Urgent!!

Just keep the project. Then you can just duplicate the project and make the next set of changes as needed. By duplicating the project, you are not duplicating the event, just the links to the event library.
This way you are not eating up disk space.
    Does that help?

if what you are seeking is simply adding the dvd presentation as a QT movie (no buttons or menus from iDvd) then look into DVDXDV > iMovie or iDVD.

  • Reorganize/Rearrange old Project/Media files for fresh start: Newbie 101

I’m just getting seriously again into FCP learning curve, know that organization is vital, and have set Settings/Preferences correctly for fresh start. I say “fresh” because awhile back I started but was not properly organized and was then interrupted (HD went belly up) before getting far other than working on a single project. ALL of those various files now sit in a FCP Media folder within another folder (thus at a second level) full of recovered files from the earlier crashed and meanwhile replaced external hard disk. My question is how do I regroup/divide/move this material so that it’s properly awaiting further work from the new FCP Projects folder on my local disk and the new FCP Media folder on one of my my externals. At present, to repeat and perhaps to clarify, EVERYTHING of this old material now sits within the single FCP Media folder on the second level of one of my externals. I could, of course, just trash everything and avoid the present quandary, but I’d rather keep it but place everything properly for the next time around when I can work with it correctly. I imagine some or all of the work done earlier may have been OK, though improperly placed for workflow. Thanks for any guidance. I’m hesitant because I don’t want to make any further mistakes as I learn and start again. I’m sure this is a simple situation for those who know what they’re doing.

Sorry. Of course you're right. Think I should resend, rewrite?
Still need some guidance on this simple problem.

  • Advice on exporting PPCS3 HDV Project to file for WD TV player

I would like to maintain HD quality through the Export process to create a file that will be played on a Western Digital TV HD Media Player.  I have tried a multiple of export settings without success.  My goal is to play back using the WD TV player with the file stored on a USB drive...file size is not an issue.
I capture the HDV footage from a Canon HV30 camcorder into PremProCS3
I use the Project Settings preset = HDV, HDV 1080i30 (60i)
I have stabbed around with Export, Movie... as well as with the Adobe Media Encoder and can't find the magic
When I capture/edit in iMovie09 on a MacBookPro, I can easily export to a .m4v which plays back in great HD quality on my 46" TV via the WD TV player.  But I can't seem to find the right preset or custom setting within Premiere Pro to get the job done.  I greatly prefer the PP editing environment and want to stick with it.
The attached jpg file is a scan from the WD TV User Manual...supported video formats.
    Thanks, in advance.

Hey, I'm glad I found you guys.  This problem has been messing up my workflow for over a year.  Maybe you can help:
I'm shooting HDV with Sony HD1000, capturing with HDV split, editing in Premiere.  (So far, so good)  Problem is, exporting from premiere (HDV 60i project) produces "squashed" and letter-boxed video, and my graphics and titles are "mis-aligned" with the video.  It's like premiere scales down my video files, letter-boxes them, but leaves graphics untouched, which of course throws everything off.  My only work around is to edit in an NTSC project, and scale down every single video clip myself, which yields lots of rendering.  I thought I solved the problem, by importing the entire premiere project into after effects.  Export worked great, no loss of quality, but after effects doesn't recognize premiere time-remapping, titles or wipe transitions (and has issues with .m2t audio)!
I've tried every form of exporting from an hdv project  (adobe media encoder, straight to encore).  ALWAYS squashes and letter-boxes the video files, while leaving the graphics/titles as is (now appearing larger than they did in the program monitor and less crisp.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I love premiere for standard dv, I just can't get around this obstacle with HDV...

  • Problems with audio in quicktime file for dvd authoring

i have converted sequence into quicktime file for burning into dvd. i have am experiencing some problems with voice over which disappers and comes back later in the quicktime file when i play it. this quicktime file is made as self contained movie. I have traced this back to the original sequence in the timeline to a white line or series of line in at the top of the time line. one is for video and the other is for audio. when the first line appears the voice over gets interrupted and audio stops in the quicktime file but its ok in the timeline. when the white line shows again the voice over can be heard again in the quicktime file and audio stops again at the start of another white line. there is no loss of audio in the sequence in the timeline. so please can someone help me understand what the problem is.

thanks tom. i am refering to render bar in the timeline, upper for video and lower for audio. May be i shoud describe them as white line gaps between dark grey or steel grey bar color.
what do you mean by down mixing? please advise

  • Importing a FCP project into FCE?

I'll try to import a FCP 7.0.2 project based on DVCPRO50 mediafiles.... into FCE 4.0.1. It will not open (of course), but is it because of not supporting the codec, or is it generally not possible to open a Pro project in Express (dependent on the material)...?!?
Any tips or tricks? Can the FCP project be saved or converted in a way that FCE will read?

Unfortunately you can't open FCP project files in FCE, only the other way around. Even if the codec was supported (which it's not), it wouldn't be possible.
If you need to edit in FCE you could always export from FCP as a Quicktime Movie in a codec that FCE does support: namely DV-NTSC or AIC.

  • Problems importing IOS project into Mac 10.8.5

My good old 2009 Macbook Pro has served me well for 6 years, but now I can't seem to find a solution to what I thought should be a simple issue. Lately I've been doing sketches on my iPad using GB for IOS, 2.0.1  It's an awesome tool, but the sketches need development.
I tried importing into my Mac's GB---"Sorry you need the next version of GB."  I tried importing into Logic Pro 9.1.8--- no results/never rendered.
So I thought, well $5 ain't so much for the new GB---now however I find it's not compatible w/ 10.8.5---"Sorry, you need Yosemite."
I've been upgrading my OS on this Macbook Pro over the years, and all it's done has made the computer more quirky, slower, prone to hang, &c. We all know Apple moves their latest hardware (partly) by obsoleting the old stuff through OS "upgrades" that turn your machine into a clunky fossil. The computer still does fine, as long as I don't overtax it---I don't want to buy another and I'm loath to install Yosemite, I saw some horror stories from people who tried putting it on a machine it was never intended for.
Anyway, the question is: anyone out there know of a way for me to import my iPad GB projects into this computer? Would a slightly earlier version of GB for Mac work, and if so, where can I get it?
    Thanks,
    John in Houston

Which version of GarageBand are you using on your Mac?
Any version of GarageBand 6.0.1 or later should be able to open GarageBand iOS projects.
See this link:   GarageBand for iOS and Mac: Project compatibility - Apple Support
GarageBand 6.0.1 comes with iLife '11 installer disks, you can buy them at Amazon or eBay and then update to GarageBand 6.0.5 from the Support downloads page.
Any version of GarageBand '11 is compatible with your MacOS X version. The latest version is GarageBand 6.0.5 .
Since your MacBook Pro can run Mt. Lion, you should be able to upgrade to Yosemite. I'd ask in the MacBook Pro forum, why your Mac is slow. It is not necessarily due to the System upgrades, but can be caused by incompatible software or a lack of RAM.
