Problem connecting as sysdba ....

Hi,
I'm going to manually create manually a database on Windows 2005 server. I have already installed successfully the DB software.
Having set the ORACLE_HOME , ORACLE_SID and created the oradim i 'm trying to connect as sysdba...but the error ORA-01031 is appeared....
SQL> conn /as sysdba
I defined the Administrator user to the ORA_DBA group and tried the above but the same problem insists.....
What may be the reason ...??? Do i have to restart the server after setting the Administrator user to the ORA_DBA group....???
Note: I use Ora Db10g. v.2
Thanks a lot
Sim

Hi,
this line already exists in the file sqlnet.ora... Anyway , i noticed that when i issue the command:
c:>oradim -new -sid orcl -startmode auto -pfile d:\.......\.....initorcl.ora
Instance created.
DIM-00019: create service error.
O/S - Error: (OS 1376) the specified local group does not exit
In fact , the service is created in manual mode. When i press the button start ,in the services window, this service is started .. without any error message.
But when i try SQL>conn /as sysdba ... the error insists (ORA-01031).
Note: I ' m connected as Administrator. I have assigned the Administrator to the ORA_DBA group . I have not restart the system after the assign...
Thanks,
Sim

    hi all,
i m using oracle 11g ie 11.1.0.6.0... my OS version is solaris10. The OS got corrupted and was again re-installed...Oracle was installed in different mount point,so there was no problem from oracle side as creating the oracle user and the relevent groups were done.
But when connecting as sysdba ie
    sqlplus "/as sysdba" gives
    ERROR:
    ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
but is able to connect as
    sqlplus /nolog
    SQL>conn sys/****** as sysdba

this problem is occuring after OS-re-installation

    Hi,
Please check if OSDBA operating system group was assigned to O/S user.

  • Connecting as SYSDBA from Remote Machine

    Hello,
I've installed Oracle8.6.1 on Linux6.2,& i've installed DBA studio on one my windows'NT machine.
When i want to connect as SYSDBA from DBA Studio & Username/Password as system/manager it says --
    ORA-01031 Insufficient Privileges
but i'can connect as SYSOPER & Normal.
Do anyone know how to solve this problem???
    null

    1. use orapwd command-line utility to create a new password file.
    2. set remote_login_passwordfile = exclusive in initxxx.ora file.
    3. restart instance.
    4. use sql*plus or svrmgrl to grant sysdba right to the schemas you want to be able to logon with sysdba rights.

  • How can I find exact username if I connected with sysdba privilege?

I granted sysdba privilge to a database user. I can connect that user as sysdba. From that users session, 'show user' command showing "SYS" and also username from v$session is also showing "SYS". How can I find actual username used for connecting the database as sysdba?

But my requirement is that in our production system auditors want to give separate username for each administrators (they are not recommending sys and system).
Normal dba privilege is not a problem. But for sysdba privilege every users are showing the user "SYS". How we can I identify which user is login to the database for a particular work if they connected as sysdba. How can I find which user did that (not just want the username "SYS", because all the administrators are identified by sys if they are connected as sysdba). If auditing is enabled how can I find the exact username. Because we are planning to give sysdba privilege to some of the administrators.
Also, is there any option to find the username, if one user is initiate shutdown of the database?First Please close the thread and keep questioning in only one thread.
then do not connect as sysdba

    Peace upon you,
I have downloaded the RPM file and installed it , but when i try to log in the home page using "Go to database home page" the browser says that the page is not found.
And when i type in the terminal : ./oracle-xe status

    So what is the problem..........?

I've managed to get OracleXE working properly on my SuSE10.2 box - I found an interesting issue - did you specify that the oracle database should not start up on system boot?
    (Check ORACLE_DBENABLED parameter in /etc/sysconfig/oracle-xe)
If this is set to FALSE, the database will not start up. You'd need to:
    su to root
su - oracle (note the '-')
    sqlplus /nolog
    connect / as sysdba;
    startup;
    exit;
    lsnrctl start
    - All the above is a manual startup - hope that helps....
    Carl.
(PS: if you want to access the database from behind the firewall, you'll need to go into YAST, security, firewall, then advanced, and specifically open TCP port 1521, also port 8080 if you want to be able to view the web front end on another machine.... sometimes the firewall can be a pain...)

  • Insufficient Privilege when connect / as sysdba

    Hai All,
when I connect / as sysdba from sqlplus then,
    insufficient privilege error comes..
Yesterday I issue a command alter system set fixed_date=none
    after that this error comes..
How to connect in sqlplus.... oracle version is 9i.
    Shiju

I have reproduced the conditions you posted here, but I find absolutely no problem and no relation with the fixed_date parameter.
I figure out the problem lies with the way you are trying to gain access as the SYSDBA role.
You don't specify your OS. It is important, as several factors influence the success of a SYSDBA connection in windows, meanwhile in a unix environment it is just enough to belong to the install time declared privileged group (dba is the most commonly used).

  • Compile all invalid packages together + connect as sysdba only

    Hi
I've installed a Ora 10.2, and imported a dump. This dump contained some users, a lot of tables and stored procs.
My first question: There is an imported user with I can connect as sysdba only. I can't connect as normal... it is problem because there is an application upper the db and I can't tell the applicataion that connect as sysdba. (it is only a sandbox for me...) What should I modify on this user to connect as normal user?
The second question: The schema (upper) contains lot of invalid packages. I have only the free Toad and I can't compile all of them only step by step... (I don't want do this step by step because there are about 300 packages...). How could I complile all of them e.g. from Sqlplus? Any other solution?
    Thanks in advance!
    Alex

ok, there is a user e.g. "xxxx"
I can connect with this user as sysdba only. "CONNECT xxxx/yyyy@db as sysdba". Without "as sysdba" I got "ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied" So I can connect only as sysdba... but this is a simple user so I don't want to connect as sysdba...

  • ORA-01031 when connecting as sysdba after upgrading DB 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3

    Hello everyone
I have just finished upgrading my development database from 10.2.0.1.0 to 10.2.0.3.0. I have also upgraded my workstation client software to 10.2.0.3.0. Everything appears to be working fine except that I can no long access the new database "as sysdba" from my client computer. Each time I try to login using sys/password@mydb as sysdba I get an ORA-01031: Insufficient privileges error.
I have no problem connecting to the database using any other normal user. I can connect using "/ as sysdba" from the server console and I also have no problem accessing my production database -- which is still 10.2.0.1 using the 10.2.0.3 drivers. The server is running SLES9 while my workstation runs openSUSE 10.2.
Any help will be most welcome
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanassis.

Ensure you have your password file inatct (recreate it if necessary).

  • I'm trying to set up my Ipod, but when I go to sign in with an apple ID it says 'Could not sign in: there was a problem connecting to the server'.

I just bought a 3rd generation ipod touch. It was professionally refurbished. I'm trying to set it up, and everything seems to be working fine, until we get to the wifi. I live on campus and our wifi is username and password protected. I signed in and everything seemed to work fine, and in the top left hand corner I have all the bars for wifi. However, when I go to sign in with an apple ID it says 'Could no sign in: there was a problem connecting to the server'. I've tried turning it on and off again, tried signing on to our wifi again, but it all isn't working. What can I do?

I also encountered the same problem. Try using a different email address or try signing in later.

  • Problems connecting multiple macs to an Airport Extreme network.

I think this problem is similar to a previous post, but is individual in some ways.
I have 2 Airport Extreme basestations covering a large flat connected by Ethernet extending a single network. I did try to extend the network wirelessly, but this was plagued with problems where the network would work for 10 mins, then drop out as I think the basestations are slightly too far apart.
Connected to the network are a number of machines:
Wirelessly we have 3x iPhones, 1x G4 Cube, 1x iMac (current model), 2x MacBook Pro (previous model) & 1x PC.
Wired via a hub is an Apple TV, PS3, Nintendo Wii, Denon Home Cinema Amp, PS2
For aprox 6 months I have had major problems connecting all the wireless machines at the same time. I have played around with the security as per previous posts with varying degrees of success.
I seem to have the most problems with the iMac. The iMac will not join the network when there is any form of wireless security. Every time I try to set up a password it hangs when trying to join and I finally get the "There was a error joining xxxx network".
After more playing around I managed to get all the machines working by having no security on the network and locking the network down by MAC addresses.
Since last Thursday I now have a new problem. The iMac joins and stays on the network perfectly, but the second my second MacBook Pro is switched on and joins the network, the internet connection on the iMac drops out. In addition, as we use the iMac as a media server, all other machines connected to the iMac for either file sharing or iTunes sharing then get the error "the remote machine is failing to respond. Please check firewall settings if there are any". What is strange is that the iMac remains on the network, full signal, independent IP address and the second the MacBook Pro is switched off, works perfectly again.
I have tried wiping both the iMac & the MacBook Pro and re-installing their operating systems, but this only solves the problem for aprox 24 hours then all of a sudden the issue re-appears.
    Can anyone out there help?

Let's double-check the AirPort Express Base Station's (AX) settings ...
Perform a "factory default" reset of the AX
    o (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044)
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, check the following settings:
    AirPort > Base Station
o Base Station Name: <rename or leave default>
    o Base Station Password: <enter desired password>
    o Verify Password: <re-enter desired password>
o Remember this password in my keychain: (optional)
    o Set time automatically: (unchecked)
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    o Network Name: <existing AEBSn's wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>

    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:

My early 2009 Mac Pro does not connect via bluetooth to my sound bar or bluetooth mini speakers. Both my wireless keyboard and mouse have no problems connecting. What do I need to do to connect to external bluetooth devices?

I would always have a wired keyboard and mouse on hand (need not be expensive ... any cheap wired devices will work).  "Emergency recovery" procedures can activate features in random order, so the opportunity to select a recovery partition may pass before the wireless devices are recognized.
That will let you select the "turn on Bluetooth" icon.

  • Problem connecting MacBook to a Sharp video projector

One of the great things I like about Macs is the easy way they (usually) connect to a video projector. Unlike a lot of my friends who run PCs with Windows I never had any problems whatsoever connecting my MacBook to a projector at the university and start my presentations.
    Until today that is.
I tried to connect my MacBook with Apple's mini-DVI to VGA adapter to a Sharp ("Notevision") video projector and although the MacBook had the projector (even with its correct name "PG-M20X" and available resolution settings) listed under "Displays" immediately, I couldn't get the projector to show any more than "no signal" whatever input source I chose...
What did I do wrong? Or is it the projector that is somehow "incompatible"?! Please help!
MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.9) Core Duo 2GHz, July 2006
MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Core Duo 2GHz, July 2006

Maybe this could help as well:
After we tried several things with the MacBook (reboot, "detect displays" etc.), we successfully connected a Powerbook (15", FireWire 800, late 2003) to the projector, using Apple's DVI-VGA Adapter.
So that did work out fine, but the MacBook didn't work on the projector. The cable that came with the projector was a VGA--DVI-A cable: there were only a few pins on the DVI-end of it going into the DVI-Connector on the projector. Could it have something to do with that? But why didn't the Powerbook have any problems connecting to the projector then?

You really have to mess with the resoluton, espescially the refresh rate, as it varies from projector to projector, monitor to monitor. Even within the same brand! Because so many manufacturers are trying so many different things to become the next cool kid on the block, and the way the formats are being configured that's now part of the game.
That's why so many professionally produced corporate shows hire a dedicated projectionist for the video presentations. Too many bugs in the honey.
Refresh & sesolution are the first things to look at.
Just so you know that colors in PowerPoint PC, and PowerPoint Mac, don't exactly match... go figure.
I forgot to mention another thing, sometimes it's the projector that needs to be tweaked.

Can you drag windows to the other display?
In the "Arrangement" tab of "Displays" system preference, you can drag the display pictures to match the actual arrangement, drag the menu bar to the other display, or enable mirroring.
