Problem extracting RAR files in Leopard

I have been unable to extract any RAR files on my computer since installing Leopard. I have tried using a variety of software including Stuffit, UnRarX, and TheUnarchiver but every time I get the message that there's been a format error. This is extremely frustrating and if anyone can recommend an application or method that works, it would be greatly appreciated.

UnRarX and MacPAR deLuxe
<http://www.xs4all.nl/~gp/MacPAR_deLuxe/>
both work fine here with Leopard. Maybe the RAR files are bad or something is wrong with your Leopard installation.

    I am new to Mac World and need help with "how to extract RAR files?"  From what I can see, many people recommended UnRARX.  However, I can not get it to work on my MacBook Pro.  Any recommendation on a different program?

    I use MacPAR deLuxe for handling RAR/PAR files. Latest version is Lion friendly

  • Problem downloading rar file using HttpURLConnection

    I'm trying to read a rar(archiving) file from the Internet using a HttpUrlConnection.
    The program seems to work fine - however the download is not the same size as the file if downloaded through a browser.
    The archive is 52,332kb when downloaded through a browser
    and 4kb smaller when I try to download it.
    When I try to extract the downloaded file (with winRAR) the header is corrupt and there is an unexpected end of archive.
    Here is the pertinent code.
    try
                // configure and open connection
                HttpURLConnection conn = (HttpURLConnection)   currURL.openConnection(); // currURL is a URL object
                conn.setRequestProperty("Connection", "Keep-Alive");
                conn.setRequestProperty("Accept-Encoding", "gzip,deflate" );
                conn.setRequestProperty("Content-type", "application/x-rar-compressed" );
                conn.setRequestProperty("Cookie", cookie);
                conn.connect();
                // get an input stream from the HttpURLConnection object
                InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader( conn.getInputStream() );
                BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader( isr );
                /* the string file_name has been parsed from the url
                 * and is in the format file_name.rar */
                File dest = new File("C:\\my_folder\\"+file_name);
                // open output stream
                OutputStream os = new FileOutputStream( dest );
                OutputStream buffer = new BufferedOutputStream( os );
                int data;
                while ( (data = in.read() ) != -1 )
                   buffer.write(data);
                // close streams
                in.close();
                os.close();
    catch( IOException iox)
         iox.printStackTrace();
    }Thanks in advance.

    Thanks ejp. I closed 'buffer' instead - that fixes the size problem.
    The archive is now exactly the same size as it should be - but the header information is still corrupt.
    When I compared the files using a binary comparison program it
    said that the files although the same size were different by approx. 6.7mb out of 53.5mb.
    I'm perplexed as to what this difference could stem from; is it the encoding, the charset, something similar?
    The underlying file I'm trying to download is an avi if that makes any difference.

  • How to extract RAR File

    Hi
    i downloaded EP Sneak priview from SDN in the form of RAR  files.when i try to extract using winzip it is giving error.is there any other way
    Prasad

    Yes, you need to get WinRar.  Its just like WinZip.  I believe that .zip and .rar are just different compression technologies.  Here is a link to get WinRar.

  • How can I extract .rar files that are dependent on the next in order to finish the extraction?

    Ex: Part 1 finishes, then asks for part 2, so on so forth!
    Trying to open something a colleague sent me, but is rather large. I have 5 .rar files. I cannot extract them seperatly or it errors/fails. Yet I cannot find a program that asks or searches for the next files in the extraction process. Tips? Programs that do? I know that WinRAR has what I need but they do not make a program for Mac, that I can get to work.
    P.s. please keep in mind i'm new to macs, my first one! and i really know nothing mac-specific, howver i know a fair bit about computers.

    It gave me the error when I ran the program, if I need to post a screenie I will. Also if unRarx does work, am I using it wrong? I've got all 5 .rar files together in one folder. Start unrarx, click browse, navigate to the first rar, click extract, then this error at the end:
    INSTRUCTIONS] + [SN] [CodeTempest]/********.dmg - CRC failed
    Total errors: 1
    ******** = name of program, kept private sorry.
    Thanks again.

  • Problem opening rar files

    I checked various posts on this topic and downloaded both the Unarchiver and Unrarx and loaded them as applications. When I drag a rar file to either of these applications, I get a message
    For the Unarchiver:
    The contents of the file Cifob.rar cannot be extracted with this program.
    For Unrarx:
    Encrypted file: CRC failed in /Users/carmeljacques/Desktop/Cifob.rar (password incorrect ?) No files to extract
    For the Unarchiver I made sure I had selected rar from the "archive formats" list. For unrarx I tried various passwords. I have tried several rar files and consistently get the same message. Can somebody please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
    IMac   Mac OS X (10.4)

    Hi Carmel,,
    Encrypted file: CRC failed in /Users/carmeljacques/Desktop/Cifob.rar (password incorrect ?) No files to extract
    In all un-archiving when a message appears with (password incorrect ?) would suggest that the file is encrypted with a 'password'.
    The password is created by the archiver and has nothing to do with your own system passwords. The creator of the archive - if they are allowing you to un-archive they must provide you with the password which must be entered by clicking the appropriate button in UnRAR prior to dropping the file onto the UnRAR software.
    Methinks you may not have the appropriate password?

  • Problems extracting .bin file from .zip file

    Hi Arch Forums,
    I face a very strange problem.
    The firmware of my MP3 player is packaged as a zip file. This zip file contains some files with the 'bin' extension.
    I extract this zip file using the unzip tool and use the resulting bin files to upgrade my MP3 player (just plain copy via USB, no fancy flash-ware). This results in boot problems and video problems on my Mp3 player.
    However if I use 7-zip on Windows XP to extract and upgrade, my MP3 player works properly!
    Now what do I suspect?
    1. .bin files on different partition types? NTFS Vs Ext3.
    2. the unzip tool
    3. USB driver transmission error for bin files?
    Thank you for throwing light on this.

    I would start by doing an md5sum on the extracted bin files on both OSes.  I know there are versions for Windows on the net.
    This will determine if the files are the same in both places.
    You could also through it on a thumb drive under windows, mount it under Linux and then do the MD5 on the file on the thumbdrive.
    My money is on door number 3.  How, exactly, do you send the file over USB?

  • Plug-in issues concerning an extracted rar file

    I downloaded a .rar file (documentary) and extracted it with iArchiver. After it was extracted, it was in .avi format and QuickTime could not properly open and play the file with out a component/plug-in. Apple directed me to an Xvid.org website to download what was supposedly needed. The Xvid.org website said it only had downloads for Windows and Linux. I saw on their FAQ page that they currently do not maintain the component for Macs (odd Apple sent me to this?). Anyway, what I am wanting to do is first play this file and later place it on a DVD. Any help is greatly appreciated. This is my first Mac and I am a novice with video and QuickTime, but I am learning. Thanks in advance!
    -Mike

    Try the Perian component for Quicktime...free.

  • How can I extract .rar files?

    I have UnRARX but that doesnt work on the ones I need extracted. I had to use a windows computer to extract the files, but what program for mac will get the job done?

    Stuffit Deluxe was the archive program of choice since System 7 until about MacOS 10.3 - it's not free and not as important as it once was.
    The free Stuffit Expander still does great work for many types of archives. Stuffit Expander 13.0.3 -
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10151590
    You can put an alias of the program on your desktop or the Dock. Drag your file onto it and let it go...
    Their description:
    Easily expand and decode all the files you download from the Web or receive in your e-mail. Access StuffIt files, uncompress Zip archives created by WinZip and other zip utilities, decompress tar, gzip and bzip archives, and more. Just drag, drop, and you're done. From BinHex to Zip, StuffIt to MIME, Expander accesses more formats, in less time, with zero hassles.

    I've noticed the same problem. Pacman grinds system (firefox) to a halt too.
    iirc, I dont think rar'ing was always this slow. Guess it might have something to do with sata, ncq and schedulers.

  • When I extract .rar files they always come out in .exe

    okay, here i downloaded tons of things like audio files from safari and i got it in form of .rar, its fine though 'cause I got rar-extracting app "unrarX".#
    Anyway, the thing is whenever I extract, I always got them in .exe which is bad 'cause I don't know what I can do with this format.
    btw, I don't really think the problem lies in the app I mentioned.

    Hi elletequila,
    Have you try to rename the extension into audio such as MP3?

  • Problems extracting bin files

    Because of problems with the activation server that was disabled, I've had to download photoshop CS2 and reinstall it on my new laptop.
    I've had my old laptop for almost four years, and had no problems with it, so I guess this activation server problem has occurred since then.
    I followed all of the instructions and downloaded Adobe Photoshop CS2. But they are all BIN files. I haven't a clue how to extract these. I have searched the net, but all of the
    software available has to be paid for. I tried two free trials, one didn't even work on the BIN file, and the other wouldn't even let me try and extract with the "trial". I can't find any FREE
    software that does what I need.
    This really bugs me. I already bought the Photoshop product and it is not my fault that they had a problem with their activation server. I can either buy a
    software to extract it, or buy a Photoshop update. I don't think I should have to do either. This is Adobe, an expensive, well known brand. I didn't expect to have this problem. I already
    BOUGHT it.
    For those who have already had to download a product to fix a problem, how did you deal with this? Were you're files BIN too?
    Please, recommend a software that is FREE and actually does what it says it will. I looked all over and couldn't find anything. I tried IZARC, but my computer says it could harm my computer!
    I've already been through a lot of crap with the other downloads and hope to hear from someone who has actual experience and knows what software is safe.
    I deeply appreciate any advice, as I am at a loss. Thanks.

    This is the downloaded file....And the next is when I tried to extract it but it stopped at 99%. See the many 0 KB files?

  • "Problem extracting some files.." for LR 5.3 installation from download

    I have Win 7 SP 1 Home premium operating system, ~300GB free space, and ran downloaded exe as Administrator.  It appears to complete setup32.exe but fails during setup64, or at completion of 64 bit.   64 is 5909KB only.
    Thanks

    Found a way around it.  By accepting the defult location to unpack files to - Desktop, all works well.
    Problem solved.

    There are two factors that can contribute to the coordinates being displaced or not being applied. I'm assuming here that you are using gps4cam to generate a tracklog and applying the tracklog to the images.
    1. The camera time must be in exact sync with the phone time, including time zones. If you forgot to adjust for daylight savings time, or if the clock on the EOS-M got reset, that could be one source of this issue.
    2. When using GPS witha smart phone, sometimes wifi hotspots are used for "greater accuracy" but occasionally a hotspot may be associated with an incorrect location.
    Based on your details above, and the fact that we just changed clocks last month, I'm betting on #1.
    For what it's worth, I use my EOS-M with an Eye-Fi SD card and that will allow me to record GPS data directly into XMP data without the use of a separate tracker app. It does wear down the battery faster, though.

  • Does leopard support rar file

    Does leopard support rar file? or I need to download third party software to extract rar file.

    Archive Assistant should extract the contents of a .rar archive; however, if there are multiple segments it will not join them back together.

  • Problems extracting Lightroom5_6 upgrade files after download

    Hello!
    I've just completed installing a LR5 upgrade from a DVD disc.
    After this, I downloaded the latest update which in this case was Lightroom 5.6.
    My problem is that I am now unable to extract the downloaded update files.
    I just get a message from the installer telling me that there is a problem extracting some files and to check that there is enough memory on my computer. The message also suggest to check that I am authourized to use the target folder for the extraction.
    I've reinstalled LR5, I've tryed downloading a new update folder several times, I've tryed extracting it in different folders.
    There is enough memory and my computer system meets the requirements. (I'am the administrator of course.)
    Anybody has a solution?
    Thanks in advance!
    Felix
    PS below is an image of the message I get when trying to extract files (in swedish though).

    Hej Dave,
    And thanks for your tips!
    I've actually tryed both the update 5,5 and the 5,6 with the same result and the screenshot just happened to be for 5,5.
    I've now also tryed extracting the the updatefile using both winrar and winzip but the problem is that it is an exe-file (program file).
    So no luck there and I dont know of any software that "extracts" / unfolds a program file. Do you know of any such software?
    Thanks anyway
    Felix
