Problems extracting .bin file from .zip file

Hi Arch Forums,
I face a very strange problem.
The firmware of my MP3 player is packaged as a zip file. This zip file contains some files with the 'bin' extension.
I extract this zip file using the unzip tool and use the resulting bin files to upgrade my MP3 player (just plain copy via USB, no fancy flash-ware). This results in boot problems and video problems on my Mp3 player.
However if I use 7-zip on Windows XP to extract and upgrade, my MP3 player works properly!
Now what do I suspect?
1. .bin files on different partition types? NTFS Vs Ext3.
2. the unzip tool
3. USB driver transmission error for bin files?
Thank you for throwing light on this.

I would start by doing an md5sum on the extracted bin files on both OSes.  I know there are versions for Windows on the net.
This will determine if the files are the same in both places.
You could also through it on a thumb drive under windows, mount it under Linux and then do the MD5 on the file on the thumbdrive.
My money is on door number 3.  How, exactly, do you send the file over USB?

  • Problems extracting bin files

    Because of problems with the activation server that was disabled, I've had to download photoshop CS2 and reinstall it on my new laptop.
    I've had my old laptop for almost four years, and had no problems with it, so I guess this activation server problem has occurred since then.
    I followed all of the instructions and downloaded Adobe Photoshop CS2. But they are all BIN files. I haven't a clue how to extract these. I have searched the net, but all of the
    software available has to be paid for. I tried two free trials, one didn't even work on the BIN file, and the other wouldn't even let me try and extract with the "trial". I can't find any FREE
    software that does what I need.
    This really bugs me. I already bought the Photoshop product and it is not my fault that they had a problem with their activation server. I can either buy a
    software to extract it, or buy a Photoshop update. I don't think I should have to do either. This is Adobe, an expensive, well known brand. I didn't expect to have this problem. I already
    BOUGHT it.
    For those who have already had to download a product to fix a problem, how did you deal with this? Were you're files BIN too?
    Please, recommend a software that is FREE and actually does what it says it will. I looked all over and couldn't find anything. I tried IZARC, but my computer says it could harm my computer!
    I've already been through a lot of crap with the other downloads and hope to hear from someone who has actual experience and knows what software is safe.
    I deeply appreciate any advice, as I am at a loss. Thanks.

    This is the downloaded file....And the next is when I tried to extract it but it stopped at 99%. See the many 0 KB files?

  • How to extract .bin file on mac?

    Dear Team,
                     How to extract .bin file on mac os ? please help me
    regards,
    kalai

    Although the link posted by the other responder shows .bin files to be a copy of RAW CD or DVD data in my experience most .bin files are some type of configuration file mainly used with internet routers and other pieces of PC/Networking equipment.
    Just where did this .bin file come from and what is it associated with that you are trying to open on your Mac?
    If it is a router configuration file that you downloaded you don't open it on the Mac. You log into your router and go to the update firmware section and browse to that file stored on your Mac hard drive and let the router handle opening and updated the routers firmware.

  • To extract .BIN files

    We have downloaded the the following file from SAP Market place.
    Can you provide me how to extract these files.
    Linux x86-64 (64-bit)
    /Oracle/Oracle 10.2.0.4/Database RDBMS/Linux x86-64 (64-bit)/
    Patchset_10204_Linux-x86-64aa.bin
    Patchset_10204_Linux-x86-64ab.bin
    Patchset_10204_Linux-x86-64ac.bin

    Hi Vijay,
    Be sure to read the documentation on how to apply a patch set to Oracle. Otherwise you can get in <i>really</i> big trouble. If you'd read the documentation, you already should have known how to handle the .BIN-files.
    Anyway: the patch files are split in separate packages, which must become a valid zip-file again. To do this, proceed as follows:
    1. Issue the following command to create the zip-file: "cat Patchset_10204_Linux-x86-64aa.bin Patchset_10204_Linux-x86-64ab.bin Patchset_10204_Linux-x86-64ac.bin > patchset.zip".
    2. Issue the following command to extract the zip-file: "unzip patchset.zip". This will result in a directory called "Disk1".
    3. Move or copy the directoy "Disk1" to the directory /oracle/stage. From within the directory /oracle/stage/Disk1, start the patching with the command "./runInstaller" as user ora<sid>.
    Regards,
    Henk.

  • Problems extracting tar.gz and zip

    Hi ^^
    So, I'm running Arch and Openbox and I was going to install GTK2 themes when I noticed my tar.gz file wouldn't open - then I remembered I hadn't installed p7zip and so I did - still no luck... I even rebooted the computer, but still no luck...
    Then I thought, maybe I needed to determine which application would unzip files and I tried to use mime to do it for me.. So I typed in the terminal
    mimeopen -d ~/Downloads/Dust-0.4.tar.gz
    and this is what was returned:
    No applications found for mimetype: application/x-compressed-tar
    I've also tried with zip files I had lying around but the same thing happens, except the error is:
    No applications found for mimetype: application/zip
    ... I don't know what else to do, I've had Openbox and Arch for a few months now and I never had this problem.. And then my HDD died, I reinstalled Arch and OB and this is happening... I probably forgot something, but if you could help..
    ^^ thanks in advance

    Thanks for the article, I also tried their method with xdg-mime however it didn't work either...
    See, first I typed this in the terminal:
    xdg-mime query filetype ~/Downloads/Dust-0.4.tar.gz
    so I'd know the filetype... and it returned:
    application/x-gzip; charset=binary
    .. So far so good, right..?
    Then I tried to make p7zip the default app for this...
    xdg-mime default p7zip application/x-gzip
    Apparently I needed to ask .desktop after the app, so I did
    xdg-mime default p7zip.desktop application/x-gzip
    and... this is what I've got now:
    /usr/bin/xdg-mime: line 664: /home/vandakiara/.local/share/applications/defaults.list.new: No such file or directory
    grep: /home/vandakiara/.local/share/applications/defaults.list.new: No such file or directory
    /usr/bin/xdg-mime: line 666: /home/vandakiara/.local/share/applications/defaults.list.new: No such file or directory
    /usr/bin/xdg-mime: line 668: /home/vandakiara/.local/share/applications/defaults.list.new: No such file or directory
    mv: impossível analisar «/home/vandakiara/.local/share/applications/defaults.list.new»: No such file or directory
    ..... any ideas? Btw, my problem isn't really working with mime - I've set default apps for stuff a bunch of times... My real problem is being unable to extract compressed files, that's all...

    There are two factors that can contribute to the coordinates being displaced or not being applied. I'm assuming here that you are using gps4cam to generate a tracklog and applying the tracklog to the images.
    1. The camera time must be in exact sync with the phone time, including time zones. If you forgot to adjust for daylight savings time, or if the clock on the EOS-M got reset, that could be one source of this issue.
    2. When using GPS witha smart phone, sometimes wifi hotspots are used for "greater accuracy" but occasionally a hotspot may be associated with an incorrect location.
    Based on your details above, and the fact that we just changed clocks last month, I'm betting on #1.
    For what it's worth, I use my EOS-M with an Eye-Fi SD card and that will allow me to record GPS data directly into XMP data without the use of a separate tracker app. It does wear down the battery faster, though.

  • Problem extracting RAR files in Leopard

    I have been unable to extract any RAR files on my computer since installing Leopard. I have tried using a variety of software including Stuffit, UnRarX, and TheUnarchiver but every time I get the message that there's been a format error. This is extremely frustrating and if anyone can recommend an application or method that works, it would be greatly appreciated.

    UnRarX and MacPAR deLuxe

    both work fine here with Leopard. Maybe the RAR files are bad or something is wrong with your Leopard installation.

  • Problems extracting Lightroom5_6 upgrade files after download

    Hello!
    I've just completed installing a LR5 upgrade from a DVD disc.
    After this, I downloaded the latest update which in this case was Lightroom 5.6.
    My problem is that I am now unable to extract the downloaded update files.
    I just get a message from the installer telling me that there is a problem extracting some files and to check that there is enough memory on my computer. The message also suggest to check that I am authourized to use the target folder for the extraction.
    I've reinstalled LR5, I've tryed downloading a new update folder several times, I've tryed extracting it in different folders.
    There is enough memory and my computer system meets the requirements. (I'am the administrator of course.)
    Anybody has a solution?
    Thanks in advance!

    PS below is an image of the message I get when trying to extract files (in swedish though).

    Hej Dave,
    And thanks for your tips!
    I've actually tryed both the update 5,5 and the 5,6 with the same result and the screenshot just happened to be for 5,5.
    I've now also tryed extracting the the updatefile using both winrar and winzip but the problem is that it is an exe-file (program file).
    So no luck there and I dont know of any software that "extracts" / unfolds a program file. Do you know of any such software?
    Thanks anyway

    Hello Jeff!
    And thanks for your answer.
    Yes i've tried extracting/installing both updates (5.5 and 5.6). The outcome was the same in both cases. Same message with 5.6 as the one in my screenshot.
    There is some information in this but I can't figure out what it is.

    Felix2 from your screen shot it appears you are attempting to download and extract the Lightroom 5.5 update/installer.  Do you receive the same error downloading the 5.6 update at Adobe - Lightroom : For Windows : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.6?  Each update contains the full installer so you do not need to have a previous version of Lightroom installed prior to installing Photoshop Lightroom 5.6.

  • Read/Write 2d numeric array or string array into bin file

    Can anyone pls help me to resolve this problem
    Attachments:
    bin file.vi ‏9 KB

    You are still using the wrong format.
    Whatever you are doing has nothing to do with a binary file.
    You are still using way too much duplicate code.
    All you probably need is read/write from spreadsheet file, no need to reinvent the wheel.
    Your code will fail if the numbers contain decimal digits (since your array is DBL, it could! If your array only contains integers, you are using the wrong numeric representation).
    You string code will fail if the array elements contains tabs, for example.
    You still don't need a sequence structure.

    I found this tip:
    Someone wrote this:
    +You have to run the installer, wait for it to get to the first point where you click Next to continue, and then leave it sitting there. Go into your system's Temp and find the particular one with the installation files inside it that were extracted, then copy it someplace, go back to the installer and cancel it.+

         public static void main (String [] args) throws IOException, ClassNotFoundException{
              ObjectOutputStream utFil = new ObjectOutputStream (new FileOutputStream("HighScoreLista.bin"));
              int po = 50;
              Spelare s;
              Spelare s1, s2, s3, s4, s5,s6,s7,s8,s9,s10;
              String frNamn;
              Vector v = new Vector();
              s1 = new Spelare("Mario", 100);
              s2 = new Spelare("Tobias",90 );
              s3 = new Spelare("Sanja", 80 );
              s4 = new Spelare("Marko", 70 );
              s5 = new Spelare("Sofia", 60 );
              s6 = new Spelare("Kalle", 50 );
              s7 = new Spelare("Lisa", 40 );
              s8 = new Spelare("Pelle", 30 );
              s9 = new Spelare("Olle", 20 );
              s10 = new Spelare("Maria",10 );
              v.add(s1);
              v.add(s2);
              v.add(s3);
              v.add(s4);
              v.add(s5);
              v.add(s6);
              v.add(s7);
              v.add(s8);
              v.add(s9);
              v.add(s10);
              System.out.println ("Before writing to file");
              System.out.println(v);
              //Write to file
              utFil.writeObject (v);
              utFil.close();
         ObjectInputStream inFil = new ObjectInputStream (new FileInputStream("HighScoreLista.bin"));
              v =(Vector) inFil.readObject();
         System.out.println (v);
              inFil.close();
    }

    Because what you are writing to the file is a vector, that is all you can get out. You are actually reading a single Object from the file which you can cast to a Vector, from which you can access the data stored inside. If you want to read the Spelare instances from the file, you will have to save them individually to the file. You will have to implement Serializable and look up the API to do that.

  • Reading files from ZIP in memory

    Hi,
    I need to extract some files from a ZIP archive which will be in memory, accessed with an InputStream (ByteArray).
    As ZIP files are likely to be large, I'd like to have some sort of "random access" in the way java.util.ZipFile does, allowing me to access any file directly without having to iterate through all the entries. Unfortunately, ZipFiles can only be constructed from physical Files, but mines will always be in memory, and I can't dump them to disk.
    So I think ZipInputStream is the only way to go here, but it imposes me a sequential access to the entries. Maybe I could fully read the file for the first time and save zip entries' offsets in a hash table, but I find it difficult to later seek the ZipInputStream to extract the entries with its offsets and it seems going back (or resetting) is not possible in this kind of streams.
    Any idea? Thanks in advance.

    user2286010 wrote:
    Thanks for your quick reply, Joachim. I've got some questions about your solution,
    +1. (optionally) iterate over all ZipEntries (using a ZipInputStream) and remember whatever information you need (names, size, ...)+
    I was thinking in how I could remember this information. I've got the name, but what about the offset? Is there any way I can know which byte the ZipInputStream is pointing to?You wouldn't remember any offsets (except maybe the number of the ZipEntry you need, if you want to avoid comparing names of each entry).
    The position in the stream seems to be an implementation detail that the ZipInputStream doesn't provide, so I didn't try getting that.
    +2. When a request for a specific entry comes in, create a new ZipInputStream, skip entries as necessary and read the entry+
    Even if I had the offset, I also don't know how to skip the previous entries.Sure: ZipInputStream.getNextEntry();
    Maybe looping until reaching the n-th entry, supposed to be the requested one, and not thinking in terms of bytes?That's what I was suggesting. Either remember the n during step 1 or (even simpler) call getNextEntry() until you get the entry with the desired name.
    It may be not too slow"may be" means: test it.
    , but better if it were possible to just go to the exact location ;-)Why? How much better? Have you tested it? Is it a proven performance bottleneck? I think you're over-thinking the situation. Implement what goes easy then test if the performance is a problem. I guess it will not be a problem, but since I haven't implemented this and don't know your performance requirements, I can't really tell.
