Problem getting video from firewire camera

I've written a small app that gets video from camera and
publishes it through FMS(2). It works well with any USB webcams I
could find, but I have problems with firewire cameras. I can select
the camera in Flash settings, and getCamera() returns the
appropriate Camera object (e.g. it has the correct name, "Microsoft
DV Camera", which is what's its name in Windows), but I get
no/blank video.
Code snippet:
var myCam:Camera = Camera.getCamera();
Alert.show("Using " + myCam.name);
videoDisplay.attachCamera(myCam);
The same code and the same camera seems to work on OS X. I've
tried out two different firewire cameras on two different Windows
(XP) machines, and they consistently didn't work. They do work in
Flash Media Encoder (I'm not sure if it was written in Flash
engine), or other programs that do capture in Windows; but my
problem is that I need to inject metadata (stream.send()) into the
stream so i can't just use FME :(
Any ideas why this doesn't work? Do firewire cameras have
issues with flash/flex (for the reference, I'm using Flex2/Flash9)
on Windows XP, or am I doing something wrong here?

HI -
MPEG Streamclip does not act as a connection device between your camera and Final Cut.
It is a stand-alone application that converts the files from your camera into files that are useable in Final Cut.
The reason Final Cut does not "see" your camera directly is that the files are not usable in Final Cut - as recorded by the camera. Those same files are seen and imported in iMovie because iMovie is designed to support a wide variety of consumer formats, and converts them automatically on import to a format the iMovie can use. FCE does not have this feature for .mpg movie files. But the format the iMovie converts to is one that is not optimal for FCE.
Once you have converted the files that you want to use in MPEG Streamclip, you can store those converted files on your disk drive in a folder. Then open FCE an go to the menu File > Import > Files and navigate to where you have stored your converted files. Select them and the will be imported into FCE.
It is preferable to import using the MPEG Streamclip method, because the files that iMovie makes, are borderline usable in FCE, and if possible, should be avoided.
Hope this helps.

  • IChat Error: "Can't get video from the camera"

When I try to Screen Share with iChat on a local network, I receive the error "Can't get video from the camera" when I have an external camera plugged into the FW400 port on my Mac Mini. The Screen Sharing feature works great when the camera is not connected. Anyone know why this is and how to fix it?

Tell us about the Network you created please.
What make and model modem ?
Can it route (issue IPs) ?
    IS there a router ?
Make and model of that please ?
If there are two devices which is doing DHCP if any are ?
IS there any computer that is sharing it's Internet Connection with any other computer ?
I take it from the title and the post that you infer you can Video and Audio chat ?
The Cannot get Video from Camera normally gets and Error Log pop up.
This can be opened with the reveal triangle on the left. The Details shown will have a Error number. Do you know what this log says ? (normally Error 20 or 21)
Old logs are stored in Users/(your account)/Library/Logs/iChatConnectionErrors by date.
IF you post an Error Log stop at the line that Says "Binary Images for iChat" as we don't need the bits below that yet.
As the Screen share in iChat uses an Audio component then the Camera if it is also the Mic needs to be ON.
In your case this may mean that in the ichat Video Menu both Camera Enabled and Mic Enabled should both be ticked.
(I have never seen an iChat error code for not (specifically) being able to get the Mic input so the message might be the only one iChat can pop up)
It does seem very odd that it only effecting Screen Sharing.
I have a Firewire connected DV converter that has two Firewire ports itself so I can input the camera feed to two computers. When this is in place the System also sees it as a Network.
I have also heard of one person with a Firewire Stills camera and I think the Storage space was seen as an External Device and therefore appeared Networked which is why I asked the first set of questions.
iChat does not like being in Two networks (a modem that issues IP address and a router doing the same or Wireless to a neighbour and Ethernet to your Own Internet connection, the Mac being the hub in a Share Internet connection, Wireless and Ethernet to the same router and using Parallels when set to Share the Mac's IP are the most common)
The Screen Sharing option in iChat > Video Menu is ON ? (at both ends ?)
As iChat's Screen Sharing is related to the System Screen Sharing and therefore Apple Remote Desktop you may find that in any routing device you may have to open ports 5900 and 5988 if not using UPnP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1629?viewlocale=en_US
You said Local Network. Do you mean this is using the Bonjour Buddy List ?

  • "Disconnected from Screen Sharing because: Can't get video from the Camera"

Whenever I try to do Screen Sharing with another Mac (with Leopard), I get this warning:
"Disconnected from Screen Sharing because: Can't get video from the Camera"
It doesn't seem to affect video chats, which I can do just fine.

It's an AirPort Express, but the problem doesn't seem to be unique to the router. I tried it in another location with another router and it still didn't work.

Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.
If you use iPhoto for this with any other digital camera, you can use iPhoto for this. Or you can use the Image Capture application for the import if you don't use iPhoto.

  • Airport & Can't get video from the camera

Ok, So I've been reading through the discussions trying to figure out what's wrong, and then how to fix it. I keep getting error "Can't get video from the camera"
Here's my setup: OSX 10.4.4 on 1 Ghz PB. iChat 3.1.1, I'm connecting using a Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge with an analog camcorder attached. I can get a video preview, but no video chats.
My connection is via a DSL modem (Cisco 725) and my ISP says all the ports needed for iChat are not blocked. my local network goes from the Cisco to an Airport (dual ethernet) which then distributes the IP addresses.
I've read that airports need to be switched so that they do not control the IP addresses, but when I do that my network stops working. Is there any way around disabling the NAT on the airport?
    PowerBook G4 1MHz/1Gb   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi EdM
I think that I'm starting to see the light... Let me see if I have this right.
My PB has an IP of 10.0.1.4 via Sys Prefs, etc..
And the Airport is 10.0.1.1 and is distributing IP addresses (hence the 10.0.1.x IP numbers - right)
    Yep (so far)
So using Terminal I need to type:
set net entry add 10.0.1.4 5060 udp
    ...and so on...
Nope. You need to have Distributing Addrress deselected in the Airport if it is in the link
With the Modem doing DHCP you should get an IP from it (mostly 10.0.0.3 as the Airport will also be given one)
Once the Modem's issued IP appears on the Mac then you log on to the modem (10.0.0.1) in Terminal, and Forward the ports to the IP the Mac gets.
Your wife's PC is also likely to need some ports open for her Apps and this will be a different IP.
I have only brought some of the details from the Port Forward site so I would make sure you check any Read Me or manual (On the CD ? web site ?) that might give you more clear instructions.
I would set it up with the Airport Out of the loop first as this will confirm the modem is in DHCP mode (you will not get an IP otherwise).

  • No Video/Cannot get video from the camera

I'm in Phoenix on a business trip and I've connected to the hotels "high speed" internet access. I've launched ichat and have attemted to engage an video conference with some friends.
I can connnect via text and audio but to no avail with video.
The error "cannot get video from camera" I believe is the error message, keeps coming up. Why ? Is the Hotels network at fault since it is quite extensive. Firewalls in the hotels network ?
    Thanks

    Hello again,
I have an ADSL connexion (free in France) with a Freebox (acting as a normal modem) then a netgear router/switch. Since the netgear is not uPnp, I configured the port forwarding to my mac (since forwarded everything above 4000 (TCP and UDP) to go to my mac (slight exageration, but worked).
It worked before, so this setup is not the problem. Probably a software upgrade. I downgraded to Quicktime 7.01 but wasn't able to test it yet. Will do this week end.
If that's the problem, frankly, Apple is very bad at communicating around iChatAV. It should be in the troubleshooting papers somewhere like "Quicktime 7.03 can be an issue for iChatAV". I also have all the developer tools installed and the latest Java 5. I can't see how that would be an issue though.

  • Cisco 831 and "Can't get video from the camera."

I'm running a Cisco 831 router with ios 12.4(5a) installed. Every time I try to initiate a video chat with a computer going through the router, I get the "Can't get video..." error. It works fine with computers on my internal network and if I bypass the Cisco router and plug straight into my Cable modem.
I've covered every conceivable TCP/UDP port being open (per numerous pages re: port 5060, 5190, etc.) and have even gone as far as testing with "permit UDP any any" and "permit TCP any any" at the top of the rules. No luck.
I've been reading about the possibly needing to "unbind" SIP (port 5060). Is this something that a Cisco 831 router would require? The router doesn't seem to respond to any of the documented Cisco command re: VoIP and does not have any phone support that I'm aware of.
If anyone has any info that can help me get his up-and-running, I'd be much obliged.
    Thanks,
    Matheau

    Hi Kcritchie,
It will most likely look like that. But in this case it should be on the UDP protocol.

  • Can't get video from the camera

I like many have had this problem in the past but came across this article
    http://homepage.mac.com/mitch.chapman/iblog/C590069509/E20051114095018/
which links a connection between iChat and PostgreSQL. Tried it and it worked and as I haven't seen it here, thought I would post it for others to try.

    HI Roger,

  • Getting video from my camera into FCE via Quicktime?

I got a bunch of footage from some DVDs burned ("finalized") in our Sony Handycam (not Firewire compatible). Each disc has a folder called "video_ts" containing files with the following extensions: bup, ifo, and vob.
I can't import any of them or open them in FinalCut and a person in the FC forums said I need to convert these files using MPEG Streamclip coupled with the Quicktime MPEG2 component using a DV video codec and uncompressed Audio and I should be good to go.
TWO QUESTIONS (finally): Do I need Quicktime Pro or just regular Quicktime? Does this solution sound good to all of you?
    Thanks so much in advance.

If you own Final Cut Pro the application gives you QT Pro (part of its install activates the Pro features).
I don't own it but it may ship with the MPEG-2 component as well. Look in the HD/Library/QuickTime folder for it.
    Big OOps and an edit.
I just noticed the "Express" part in this subject. Me bad.
Doesn't Apple offer an "Express to Pro" upgrade? It seems to save your at least $50 because of these inclusions.
MPEG Streamclip is a great free product and a newer version was released a few days ago.

  • IChatAV can't get video from camera

I upgraded to Tiger at long last, and now I cannot video chat with a friend who uses XP and AIM. Before I upgraded, I was able to with some work and luck.
I've been googling and reading, and have opened all the ports and such on my end. I am using a 1.5ghz G4 PowerBook with 512mb RAM and am on DSL. I can video chat with this person using Yahoo, but the video quality is crap and there is no audio. I do use iChatUSB, but I have the most recent version which is said to work on Tiger. My cam is a Logitech QuickCam Zoom SIlver (color), and iChat will not recognize it at all w/o iChatUSB installed.
After trying things and opening ports, my error message has changed from myself or PC user not responding, to the "no data for 10 seconds" to it's current state, which is iChat not being able to get video from the camera. However, video does display in preview, so perhaps it is the remote host it cannot get the video from, it does not specify. As far as I know, I have all the needed ports open on my router, and I have the OS X firewall disabled.
Thank you for your time and help.

    Hi Lee,
At this point I would try two things,
Test your connection speeds http://www.dslreports.com/stest let us know the results.
Secondly have look at the following post, as it may be possible that you need to reinstall quicktime.
    Topic: Trouble Shooting.
Should none of the suggestions on this page help with your problem I would run the following text in bold in terminal.
    /Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat -errorLogLevel 7
Copy and paste it into Terminal then hit enter.
This will make iChat try and run and create a log whilst doing so.
To Stop use the Quit item in the Tereminal menu and say yes to ending all.
Post back with the results of the log.

  • Can't get video from camera update / suggestions?

As I think others have reported, I have lost my ability to participate in iChat AV video sessions, and any attempt produces a "can't get video from camera" error message. I am running OS 10.4.5.
I have an extra internal hard drive with no OS on it, so I did a clean install of Mac OS 10.4 and iChat was back to working. I then applied all the Apple Software Updates to bring it up to 10.4.5 as well as any othe Security Updates and such, and it is still working OK as long as I boot off that OS.
This tells me the problem cannot be in my Router or DSM Modem, I think.
In the past, I have had ShowMacster and iGlasses installed on my original system, but I believe that I have uninstalled both of those properly. Still does not work.
I DO have Apple Remote Desktop - Admin installed on this startup volume, and I cannot say for sure whether the problem may have started around the time I installed it. It's possible, I just wasn't keeping chronological records of installs back then.
So, the GOOD news is that I can participate in any iChat AV session I want to be in as long as I have prior notice or enough time to reboot my G5 PowerMac under my second drive, but I still can't keep iChat AV open on my main drive and expect to be able to respond to impromptu invites to a video session.
I thought I may have read that Apple Remote Desktop can create a conflict. If anyone knows, I would be all ears! Thanks for any suggestions.

I believe I have solved the mystery of why I was getting the "can't get video from camera" error message. I had said earlier that I had Apple Remote Desktop (admin) loaded on my Mac but that I did not normally have this application open. What I failed to realize, though, was that for some reason I also had Apple Remote Desktop set to ON in my Sharing System Preferences pane. All I had to do was to uncheck this box and my ability to carry on video chats returned.
I expect that somehow in the process of installing and running the Apple Remote Desktop application to access another Macintosh on my home network, I must have either manually or automatically caused Apple Remote Desktop to be turned ON as if I was wanting to allow some other Admin user to connect to my Mac. Doesn't make much sense to me, but I am happy with the solution.

  • Found an error related to "can't get video from Camera"

So, I am back with the same issue: it is now 3-4 months I can't Video chat because iChat AV tells me "can't get video from camera". I disable the firewall (for the test), I forwarded nearly ALL the TCP and UDP packets from my router to the mac, I stopped any application such as PostgreSQL or others which might interfeer. I checked I didn't have any strange firewall rules still on even when switched of from UserPreferences (sudo ipfw list)...
Well, I can see myself with the camera but it won't get the image of the party I am connecting to. So... I looked in the console and:
2006-03-04 19:09:14.926 iChat[9245] WARNING: Freeze-frame failed: couldn't get local buffer for layer Local!
Each time, this is the message.
I did the downgrade Quicktime test I also reinstalled the combined update... nothing worked.
It seems CRAZY that nobody at Apple can at least tell me WHERE to have a look. After all the message is not very clear. Where is the problem? My mac, my router, iChat?
I filed a bug BTW... because it DID work in the past and now stoped working, so my netgear router can't be in fault (I also checked the logs of the router and of the firewall... nothing seemed to be stoped)
    Alex

    Hi Alexander,
Defcom aslo has a Netgear And I will let him come back on that side.
On the error front iChat has about 4 standard messages.
    1) User did not Respond.
    2) Insufficient Bandwidth.
    3) Can not get Video from Camera
    4) Did not get data for 10 secs
Unfortunately the causes can overlap, hence the lack of Ahaa !!
The most common feature of all of them is something to do with the way the routing devices are set up.
This leads us to start with the LAN set up,
    The ports that are open,
the method used to open them,
Whether DHCP is being used with Port Forwarding as the IP can change to your computer and the Port Forwarding point to the "wrong" IP
How many devices are in the link to the Internet ?
IF you are doing NAT (Port Forwarding or Port Triggering) ?
Whether your ISP has started dong NAT to your service
Whether they offer a SIP based Service like VoIP phones.

  • My USB CF Card reader is not mounting on my 2.5 GHZ Intel Core i5 iMac anymore. It was last week and worked fine to get pictures from my camera. Now it won't mount. I have tried another card reader and the same problem exists. Also tried different cards..

    Hi
My USB CF (Compact Flash) Card reader is not mounting on my 2.5 GHZ Intel Core i5 iMac anymore.
Last week it worked fine to get pictures from my camera but now it won't mount at all.
I ejected it in the correct way rather than just disconnecting it but now i cannot get it to remount!
I cannot even see it in the disk utility or system profiler.
I have tried another card reader (a brand new one bought today) and the same problem exists. I've also tried different cards to see if that made a difference and they still arent being picked up on the Mac.
I have done all the usual things like rebooting, unplugging all other USB devices and then trying but nothing has worked.
I'm a photographer and I'm at my wits end here. I know the cards are fine as i have been using them without issue and they are also new.
Note: If I plug the camera in directly to the Mac, the Mac picks it up just fine as it always has done. Its just the card readers that it wont pick up anymore.
If anyone has any ideas at all other than the following (my so called friends advice) you'd earn my undting love:
    Buy a PC
Use the camera (Thats why i bought the reader in the first place - importing RAW files from the camera is SLOW!)
Replace your CF cards (I have three 8GB cards two of which i had never used til today and they dont work either!)
Buy a new card reader (this is the 5th one in two days - none work on the Mac)
    Many thanks in advance!

OK, restart in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible one or more is corrupt. To restart in Safe Mode when you hear the start up tone hold down the Shift Key until you see a progress bar. Let it fully boot then restart normally and test.
Also I am assuming you have checked Finder - Preferences  - General and see what boxes are checked in "Show these items on desktop." You can also mount an item in Disk Utility, simply highlight it and then look in the File menu for Mount.....

I cannot get CS6 to recognize my Sony DCR-TRV340 camera for capturing video from that camera.  The CS6 capture box keeps putting up a message that capture device is off line.  The Sony DCR-TRV340 camera is not listed in the CS6 Device Type  list in the CS6 DV/HDV device control settings box of Sony cameras.  I've downloaded what I think are the correct drivers for the TRV340, and when I plug the camera into the computer, the computer shows it listed in the devices and printers box, but CS6 will not recognize it.  Do I need to install these drivers into a specific folder in the CS6 program?  If so, where do I find these drivers in the windows 7 professional operating system, and into which CS6 file folder would I copy them to?

Most camera's are not listed in Device controle, set it to Sony and generic. Yours is very old its a Digital 8 camera (I still got a TRV210). Johns second link wont work with your camera.
You do not need to download drivers nor do you need to install anything. Most likely its the Legacy driver.
