Problem in drilling out to relational from OLAP worksheet

Hi,
I am using level based hierarchy for my dimensions and trying drill out to relation worksheet from OLAP worksheet.
The problem I am facing is that the way OLAP stores data is always sufixed with the "_LEVELNAME". Now when passing parameters from OLAP we have two option (i) pass the label (ii) pass the value
a) We cannot pass the value as the value will be appended with the _levelname. and will not match to the relational data.
b) On the disco report it displays the long description which in our case is code_description value which is again not same data as stored in relational table.
My question is how can I make the short description visible in the report? Excel addin has feature through which you can either show long or short description.
Your help is much appreciated.
Thanks

  • Possible Solution to Problem of Clearing out Print Jobs From HP ePrint

    I've been grappling for months trying to figure out how to clear print jobs on my HP ePrint printer (HP 6600). I stumbled on this by accident a few minutes ago and it worked, so I'm posting it here in case anyone else needs the info.
    My PC runs Windows 8, so not sure how this will work on other platforms. Maybe others can add info pertinent to different platforms.
    Open Control Panel.
    Under Hardware and Sound, click the link to View Devices and Printers
    There you should see the HP ePrint icon. If you have print jobs in there, it will say so.
    Double-click on the HP ePrint icon, and you should see the jobs listed and be able to select and cancel them!
    This was one of the most frustrating troubleshooting issues I've ever had to deal with. I'm so happy to have found the solution and couldn't wait to share it! Let me know if it works for others with this problem.

    Welcome to the discussions. When you pulled the Battery it reset and this is the reason the Date and Time reset.
    Normally when you have an issue as you describe it requires a PMU reset.

  • Migrating from OLAP to relational

    Hi,
    I am supposed to work on an assignment that needs to migrate the data model from OLAP to relational. Generally the industry is moving the other way, i.e. from Relational to OLAP.
    In my current assignment I have to re-rengineer an existing reporting that is carried out of Oracle Sales Analyzer on top of Oracle Express Server.
    In the modified environment we are supposed to use Oracle 10g Standard Edition licenses from the customer, which (as far as I know) do not have the OLAP option.
    So we have to come up with a Datamart that has to be in relational (star schema) form.Please correct me if there is any other possible solution also.
    I believe some of you here would have certainly got a solution to my problem, that is,1) how to efficiently migrate the OES data into relational model. We have to report on Oracle Discoverer 10g, and ETL would be Oracle Warehouse Builder.
    2) Is there a way to reuse the metadata for ETL or reporting purposes. I have a vague idea about the whole exercise, in which, I'll manually dig out physical table level details from OES setup and then pull those attributes into the star schema kind of model tables. But maintaining hierarchies and so many levels will be another problem in relational structures.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks
    Goga

    Unfortunately, OWB cannot use an Express database as a source. However, there is some good news. If you are using Warehouse Builder 10gR2 there is an new Expert available from download from the OWB OTN website that uses all the old OSA metadata files to create a completely new project with source and target modules. The source modules are the original dimension and variable flat files.
    Because the model that is generated is a logical model you can implement it as either a relational or multi-dimensional schema (assuming you have not tried to use any features specific to a multi-dimensional model such as value based hierarchies or non-additive measures).
    Goto to the OWB Exchange:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/htdocs/OWBexchange.html?cat=EXP&submit=Search
    Search for "Experts"
    and the list one listed is:
    OSA Migration Expert: Uses the OSA Global metadata files to allow an initial migration example of an OSA system.
    Obviously this is not a supported utility so you are on your own, but hopefully this will at least provide you with a good starting point for creating your relational schema.
    Hope this helps

  • Severe problem with 'Drill to Related' using drill icon

    Hi
    I have a severe problem with 'Drill to Related' in Discoverer Plus (10.1.2.54.25) using the drill icon of a worksheet:
    1. Though existing no items to drill to are shown in the context menu (or pop-up list), instead it says just 'Drill to Related...'
    2. Clicking on menue item 'Drill to Related...' results in 50% processor load (permanent) and no further update of the browser window (IE 7.0.5730.11) containig Discoverer Plus. There is no recovery of that state within about 20 minutes.
    This behaviour is both highly reproducible and annoying.
    When using the drill dialog instead of the icon the expected items are shown and 'Drill to Related' works fine. Although that is a workaround I don't think it acceptable to tell the end-users to use it.
    I searched metalink for a hint but couldn't find anything.
    Can anyone help?
    Franziska

    Hi S
    This seems to be a bug that was fixed earlier since we didn't experience it having applied cumulative patch 3 earlier.
    Something might be said about your problem in Metalink
    Doc ID: Note:422575.1
    Subject: Drilling With Discoverer Viewer 10g (10.1.2) Using Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) Fails With Javascript Error
    We still had to apply the patch for the bug I mentioned earlier in this thread in order to be able to see and select an item to drill to. Unfortunately the problem with the processor load up to 50% and nothing happening is still there.
    By the way IE 7 is certified now according to the Oracle certification information.
    Hope this helps

  • How do I view data from OLAP DML program or statement?

    Hi
    I'm struggling to find any information on this topic anywhere on the net:
    How to view data produced by an Oracle OLAP DML program or statement.
    Background :
    I am using the latest AWM to create and maintain dimensions, cubes and measures. However, I've noticed that AWM, Discoverer OLAP, BI Beans, Excel Plug-In et al only provide a fixed set of formula and expressions.
    For example, I wanted to created a Standard Deviation (STDEV) on measure. After much searching I learnt that I could do this by creating a custom measure in AWM by importing a measure defined in an XML dcoument as it's not provided by AWM. The output in Discoverer OLAP on the surface seems to give the correct results, however when drilling from high level to lower level of time time dimension hierarchy Discoverer includes the parent value in the calculation and renders the values incorrect.
    My alternative is to use OLAP DML, as it provides a richer range of formuale and calculations possibilities and I was hoping to use this functionality to do create the measures. I have the distinct impression, however, that OLAP Worksheet is the only interface out there to do this.
    It seems very primitive and limited with regards to data output, almost like SQL*Plus in many ways.
    The burning questions I have are :
    1) Do I need to write DML programs to perform these custom measure calculations and add them to cubes or do I import the custom measures via AWM and XML?
    2) If the answer to question 1 is DML programming, is there a way of viewing the OLAP data output through a GUI interface without embedding the statements in SQL.
    3) Has anyone experienced or noticed the same problem with Discoverer OLAP, AWM Viewer that I mentioned above? i,e, statistical functions performed on whole dimension hierarchy rather than lower levels.
    I'm hoping someone out there knows what I am trying to do or get at. Keith, any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks
    Kind Regards
    Greg

    Hi Greg,
    There are two ways to achieve what you want. Both require the use of custom calculations which cannot be created via the calculation wizard within AWM. To do this the easiest way is step outside of AWM and use the Excel Calculation utility that is on the OLAP OTN home page:
    Creating OLAP Calculations using Excel
    http://download.oracle.com/otn/java/olap/SpreadsheetCalcs_10203.zip
    Readme
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bi/olap/OLAP_SpreadsheetCalcs.html
    (Oracle OLAP DML Reference contains a list of all the OLAP functions that can be used to create a custom calculation. http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bi/olap/OLAP_DML_10.2.zip)
    The Excel tool lets you assign your own formula to a measure and then uploads that measure definition into your AW. It is possible to import a custom calculation template into AWM using the menu option on the Calculated Measure node of each cube, but it is safer to use the Excel Worksheet as this directly uses the public XML API and is always best to use a public API rather than hacking XML templates.
    There are two types of custom calculation:
    1) Formula: using a formula you can directly call any of the OLAP functions. For example to create a measure that returns the standard deviation for a measure then you would enter the following as the formula for your calculated measure:
    stddev(sales_revenue, time)
    The easiest way to test if the measure is working as expected is to use the data viewer within AWM.
    2) Programs - if the function you need is not provided or you want to do special processing to return a result you can create an OLAP DML program which can return a result. To do this use OLAP Worksheet to define the program and add a datatype to the DEFINE statement, such as :
    DEFINE PRG_SD_SALES PROGRAM DECIMAL
    In the program return the value you have calculated within your program. Within the program you can do just about anything but be aware that your program is going to fire for every cell within your virtual cube so it must be efficient and fast to execute. For a measure then you would enter the following as the formula for your calculated measure:
    prg_sd_sales(time, products, geographies, channels).
    The actual program code would look something like this:
    DEFINE PRG_SD_REVENUE PROGRAM DECIMAL
    PROGRAM
    argument T_TIME TIME
    argument T_PRODUCT PRODUCTS
    argument T_GEOGRAPHY GEOGRAPHIES
    argument T_CHANNEL CHANNELS
    variable D_RETURN decimal
    TEMPSTAT TIME, PRODUCTS, GEOGRAPHIES, CHANNELS
    do
    limit PRODUCTS to T_PRODUCT
    limit CHANNELS to T_CHANNEL
    limit GEOGRAPHIES to T_GEOGRAPHY
    limit TIME to T_TIME
    limit TIME add descendants using TIME_PARENTREL
    limit TIME keep TIME_LEVELREL 'CAL_MONTH'
    D_RETURN = stddev(SALES_REVENUE)
    doend
    return D_RETURN
    END
    This code computes a standard deviation the all months within the specified time range, at year level for all 12 months, at quarter level for the three months within the quarter ans returns NA at the month level.
    As the code executes within a implicit loop you can only change the status fo dimensions that for part of that implicit by using the TEMPSTAT command. To test the program at the command line use the OLAP Worksheet and the SHOW command to just return one cell of data, DO NOT SIMPLY USE THE RPR COMMAND because you will have to wait for the whole cube to be returned. If you want to use the RPR command make sure you limit your base dimensions first! You can use PRGTRACE to debug your program code it is not working as expected. Again, the easiest way to test if the measure is working as expected is to use the data viewer within AWM, although this will not return debug information so send all your debug output to a file to capture any errors and/or trace the execution flow.
    Hope this helps

  • Error with YTD Share measure from OLAP AW in OBIEE

    I've created an AW using AWM 11g, created an OBIEE repository that uses it, and I'm having trouble getting a particular calculated measure to display in OBIEE.
    I've created a measure called YTD_SHR_REG_PROF, which is the YTD Share of Profit for the Region, and I've included that calculated measure in my RPD file, along with Sales, Profit, and several other measures, both base and calculated.
    Every other measure can be displayed in OBIEE. For example, selecting a Month and its associated Sales, YTD_Sales, and Profit works just fine. However, including my YTD_SHR_REG_PROF measure causes my Oracle Database instance to shut down. Ouch!!
    Here's the wizard-generated definition of the measure:
    (SHARE(UNITS_CUBE.YTD_PROFIT OF CUSTOMER.STANDARD LEVEL CUSTOMER.REGION)) * 100
    I'm selecting Month, Region, Warehouse, Sales, YTD_Sales, Profit, and YTD_SHR_REG_PROF in my Answers request. If I omit YTD_SHR_REG_PROF, it works fine. If I include that measure, it stops my Oracle service.
    I captured the SQL from OBIEE and executed it in SQL Developer and got the same result, shown here:

    By the way, the measure displays just fine in AWM with View Data. The values are correct, no problems at all.
    If anyone from the OLAP team is monitoring this forum, could I ask you to try to recreate this issue? I'm using the Global schema.
    I was going to also post the issue in the OBIEE forum, but since the SQL bombs in SQL Developer, I don't think it's an OBIEE issue.
    Thanks!

    Hi Mark,
    Thanks for the template.
    I observe exactly the same behaviour on my local 11.1.0.7 instance. I found an error in a trace file related to a background thread ('qerfxGCol:KQFDTTIM - Error converting to LdiDateArray') but I cannot be 100% sure it is related.
    Bizarrely, I found that if I strip out the sum/group_by from my query, it completes successfully and the result seems sensible
    eg.
    select
    T902.MONTH_LONG_DESCRIPTION as c1,
    T858.REGION_LONG_DESCRIPTION as c2,
    T858.WAREHOUSE_LONG_DESCRIPTI as c3,
    T930.SALES as c4,
    T930.YTD_SALES as c5,
    T930.PROFIT as c6,
    T930.YTD_SHR_REG_PROF as c7,
    T902.MONTH_END_DATE as c8,
    T858.CUSTOMER_REGION_ID as c9,
    T858.CUSTOMER_WAREHOUSE_ID as c10,
    T902.TIME_MONTH_ID as c11
    from
    TIME_CALENDAR_VIEW T902,
    CUSTOMER_STANDARD_VIEW T858,
    UNITS_CUBE_VIEW T930
    where
    (T858.DIM_KEY = T930.CUSTOMER
    and
    T902.DIM_KEY = T930.TIME
    and
    T902.MONTH_LONG_DESCRIPTION = 'APR-01' )
    I can only assume at this stage that you have uncovered a bug - is this a significant issue for you? and if so, are you able to open an SR?

  • Number of records being pulled from OLAP/ SQL in BPC 5.1

    Hello BPC gurus,
                         We are experience performance issues with EVDRE.basically the report errors out and the error log states " Decompressing request failed". We are in BPC 5.1
           We were trying to understand how many number of records the evdre is pulling from from OLAP / database  so that we can look into some fine tuning opportunities of the EVDRE.
          In the BI world we have RSRT where in which we can view the number of records from database, number of records transferred. Is there any such feature in BPC, where in which we can information on record counts.
    We have turned on the error logs , but none of them give us an idea of the record count.
    Appreciate your help in advance.
    Thanks
    sai

    Hi Sorin,
                   Thank you very much for getting to me on my clarificaiton on the record count. As per your suggestion, we have already looked into this OSS note, and changed the entries in the table. After making these changes, the queries that normally execute in 1 min, now take 30 minutes to complete. Believe this was the observation also in some of the threads related to this issue.
    You had mentioned that there might be an issue with the communication between application server  and BPC Client. or SQE generating MDX query.  Can you please give us some pointers on how to investigate this. Have turned on error logs evdataserver_debug.txt & EVDATASERVER_TRACE.txt on the file server,  but i believe there is an OSS note 1311019, that talks about these logs not workign with SP9.
    If you can guide us in the folllowing that would be helpful
    1  how to bebug this issue that we are currently facing.
    2. How does the concept of compressing / decompressing work in BPC.

    I`m copying here the relevant part:
    "You may have invalid OLAP metadata left over within your CWM catalogs".
    "there are some views owned by OLAPSYS user that show all the dimension and cubes that are "OLAP enabled"
    "You will need to use the following packages:

    I am new to the world of mac but your problem may not be ram related. I had a problem when using I Movie where the clips were freezing. It was due to filevault being used on the home folder which was where the clips were being imported into. It was resolved by importing them directly onto the hard disk instead. I think that because filevault encripts its files on-the-fly it creates slight delays in the streaming of the data causing it to fail or freeze.
    Hope this helps - Daragh

  • Take out multiple values from a db and handle them in an applet.

    I have a db with tables. I want to take out several values from them and make them visible in a JFrame (or applet).
    I dont know how to do. I have an app that connects to the db and selects the values and puts the Strings in a Vector. But now then?
    I have looked at examples that retrieve Strings but not vectors, isn't that possible?

    Hi,
    On initialization of your frame you can loop over your vector and display them.
    Now the problem is in what type of component do you want to put your data.
    I can give you an example.
    What you can do is create a String which will contain all the data from
    your vector and set that string to the component.
    Example:
    Vector data;
    String result;
    for(int i=0; i < data.size(); i++) {
    result += (String)data.elementAt(i) + "\n";
    Now you need to put the string into a component which is easy done.
    Let take a textarea component.
    JTextArea txaTest = new JTextArea();
    txtTest.setText(result);
    Now all the data will be shown in the textarea component on your frame.
