Problem making a intel Net Install Image on 10.4.10 PPC Server

I am working on building a new netinstall image for my incoming intel power pros. I get and "error has occured" when I target boot my intel machine to my server or when I try an use a clone on an external drive.
below is the error log from System Image Utility. Is my image to big (92 GB)? or is my intel/ppc server not compatible?

Not sure if it's a related issue, but I was able to make an image of an Intel machine a couple of days ago... haven't applied any updates since. The obvious difference for me is that what I'm trying here is a G5.
/Volumes/Storage/Library/NetBoot/NetBootSP2/Image_4708220938.nbi/NIUReservedSyst em.z.dmg which the first error claimed did not exist, does. Anybody else have any luck using this modification?
I can't believe they'd put an arbitrary limit of 50GB on creating an image. I can find no mention of any such limit in the System Image and SW Update pdf. Well, one for tech support I guess.

MacBook Pro Net Install Image

I am using OSX Server 10.4.6 and have successfully created a number of NetInstall images for various Power PC macs. I have just created an image of 10.4.6 on a MacBook Pro (Intel) (note both server and Intel Mac are fully up to date via Software Update). I have installed the image on the OS X Server and enabled it. The image appears in the list of images in Server Admin. However, its architecture is listed as PowerPC and I can't change it. Also, in the clients tab, my six PowerPC images are listed, but my Intel image is not. I have checked/repaired permissions on the image to no avail.
Needless to say, now that I wish to do a Net Install onto another MacBook, the Net Install image is not visible in the MacBook's Start Up disk preference pane, and restarting with the N key held down is not effective.
I'll set up the new MacBook manually, in the meantime, but I would like to know where I went wrong with the Intel Image (if necessary, I'll reimage the new machine and ditch the faulty image).

I have answered my own question. The problem was creating the image with an old version of System Image Utility (10.4.4). I downloaded the latest version of this utility (10.4.6v255) from the server after updating it, and it worked fine.

Won't finish loading to net install image.

I thought I was getting the hang of this but now I am getting a bit frustrated. I took a machine out of one of our labs. I fired it up in target disk mode and plugged it into the xserve. I then used the system image utility to to create a netinstall image from the machine. The image process took about an hour. I then set the image as active under the server admin - netboot. The problem is that my machines won't load to the image. I tried 2 machines. A G5 of a different generation and then the G5 I used to create the image to to be sure it wasn't a problem with the machines being different.
I can select the volume either by holding the option key and boot-up or by going in to the startup disk and selecting it that way. The machine selects the image and begins to boot to it but it just sits on the white screen with the apple logo and the little spinning activity icon. I have let it sit here for about 30 mins so I could be sure it wasn't going to do anything else.
Can anyone give me any ideas or point me in a direction where I should start looking to get this problem resolved?

Its a missing /usr/lib/libbz2.1.0.3.dylib file in the image.
As the discussion says you will have to copy that file from your server (PPC server (intel server if its an intel image)) to the same place in the image.

(If you have a version of the server earlier than 10.4.11 Its a missing CordVideo Framework folder-if the above doesn't work I'll try and find that reference-again someone else found the fix)

Odd Problem Making 10.6.3 NetBoot Image

I have netboot volumes for 10.3, 10.4 and 10.5. They all have some useful utilities on them, and any time I need to fix any Mac, brand new or very old, I just boot the appropriate netboot image (and usually run diskwarrior). Overall it's worked very effectively. I just whipped up my first 10.6 netboot image. I do them all the same way, I install OS X on a firewire drive, then I install everything I want on it. Set all my preferences exactly the way I want them. Then I use the System Image Utility to turn it into a NetBoot image. So this 10.6.3 image boot perfectly off the firewire drive every single time. But every time I turn it into a netboot image and boot off of it (from any mac), I get this odd font error at startup:

I haven't touched any fonts. I haven't installed any graphics related software at all. Just utilities, and openoffice. And like I said... this volume boots perfect as a firewire drive. It's when you convert it to a netboot image and boot it, it gives you this strange error at boot. Any ideas what the deal is? Yes I am making the .nbi folder on 10.6 server. It should just work

This solution came from a conglomeration of the posts here and I was able to repeat my results. To make the error go away, boot your source into target mode and after connecting it to your image creation machine (OSX Server in my case) remove all the directories/folders in /private/var/folders; mine were named zz, t9, and 43. I tried doing this before booting into target mode but they get re-created immediately so they never really go away. Hope this helps someone.

Can't install from net-install usb image with ppp on eee

Hi forum,
l downloaded the latest net-install image for usb, set that up and booted into my 900a EEE and ran /arch/setup. I skipped the network part and setup ppp with a usb-serial cable and ran pon <isp> to connect. Selected the mirror and so on until I clicked on Select Package. "Pacman prep failed" it said, look at tty7. There it said "failed retrieving file core.db.gz from <mirror>"..."transient resolver failure". So I clicked OK, and it put me in a window where it said "Package selection is split into two stages etc" OK. Now I was put in a window where it said "Select Package Group DO NOT DESELECT" and there was this "[*] base ^", selected. I did not deselect. OK. Here I was dropped to the prompt with the message
ERROR: ask_checklist makes sense if you specify 1 thing (tag, item and ON/OFF switch)
I've gone through the process several times, choosing 4 different mirrors, and deselecting that thing that said, DO NOT DESELECT with the same outcome.
Can someone please help? Is there perhaps a min speed at which net-install won't work? I'm way down there at ~3 kb/s.

BUT I got it right.
MAIN PROBLEM:ENCORE didn't want to burn,write,create folder or image.Not the DVD writer error.
If you have tried everything else suggested THEN:
Adobe forum: uninstall and re-install. ONE slight problem not mentioned any uninstalling or format of PC or adobe software.YOU MUST DEACTIVATE the product first.
1. Deactivate and un-install all cs6
2. Download and use the adobe cleaner Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 Point 3 and choose OS-Run it .
3.Clean all
4.Run disk and system file clean up.Restart PC.
5.Let system clean run. Once logged in. Run CC cleaner again. BUT NOW select clean adobe credentials.
6.Restart again.
7.Insert your CS6 production premium disc and TADA! It worked for me.
If this doesn't work go to adobe,sign in,choose a certain product premiere,after effects etc, choose installing or activation, and click contact us. There should be an option of CHAT to us not just the search forum.
Explain that you can't install from disc and ask to see your license and serial number if it can be deactivated and then try activate again.
Not the most elegant but efficient for me. I spent 2 days on this searching,phoning, chatting, restarting
YET I'm still stuck by ENCORE not burning to disc LOL! So actually was all in vain but atleast if you have bad disc and serial number issues this could shed some like.

No Broadcom wireless driver in net install ISO?

I downloaded the net install ISO and booted only to find that there's no driver for my wireless adapter? A NET INSTALL ISO without a driver for a very FREQUENT wireless device in a lot of laptops (Broadcom BCM4312)? Come on!
Don't get me wrong, this is not just a rant, nor a flame, I've been using Arch for a couple of months on my desktop and it's great. But, it's really disappointing to find that I can't even install it on my laptop.
Considering it's a net install image, I really think you should include network drivers for at least the more popular adapters, my Broadcom certainly isn't anything esoteric.

There is no official Arch package for the wl driver, therfore there is no package to include on the ISO. If you want the devs to change this, post a feature request in the bugtracker - they generally don't read forum posts.
While you're waiting... you mentioned a desktop. Why not reach around the back of it, unplug the network cable, stick it into your laptop, do the net install, and the broadcom-wl install. Then unplug the cable, put it back in the desktop where it belongs.... and be happy.

Safari load image problem with iMac Intel core

I got my new iMac 20" Intel core and system updated everything. I found that Safari cannot load image in my web photo album ( http://fotop.net/nicknick ), all image became "?".
I can load this page correctly with FireFox and Opera Browser. I also try the iMac 17" PowerPC in my office with the latest version Safari, it also load the album correctly. And I know this web is created and store in a Linux server, the web page coding not written or optimized to IE.
I've try to reinstall the whole OS X, nothing else installed, the same problem occurred.
Is it the problem on Intel core? or any setting I can do to overcome it?
Hope the problem could be solve, I like to use Safari except this problem.

You're right, I'm puzzled by the imac.
Intel imac is at my home, ppc imac is at my office;
both using same ISP but different service plan,
(home:) PPPoE, ADSL modem -> buffalo MIMO wireless router -> intel imac (both direct wire or wireless connect have same result)
(office:) fixed-ip, ADSL modem -> firewall -> Linksys wireless router -> ppc imac (wireless)
both network setting with manual assigned IP, gateway and same DNS
Same result occurred when (1)open box new machine, (2)after updated system, (3)reinstall whole OS with preserve the old setting, (4)reinstall whole OS with erase the whole harddisk option, (5)updated system after the reinstallation.
I firstly think may be some security setting in imac that blocked the images, but can't found out. I secondly think some html code at this web not work on Safari.
May someone with same machine help to open this web to see if all intel imac get the same result?

[SOLVED] Problem with net install cd

Trying to install Arch on an old Asus P4BGL-MX board which is proprietary, probably something HP. I have had no problems using the net install CD on 3 other Asus boards. What happens is the install process starts (booting the kernel) and then halts with the screen black and the computer hung.
The last line before black screen is: [13.34178412] ACPI: Invalid PBLK length [5]
==>> I think problem solved, but I don't understand it. The board has on board Intel graphics, but I had an ATI PCI card installed with bios set for it. Took it out and now the install goes as it should. I'm marking this post as solved, but if anyone could shed some light on this, it would be appreciated.

It is retail disk, i bought it in apple store. I also resetter PRRAM and SMC and checked disk. I also tried clean installation and upgrade, nothing works, after run installation program after few seconds wrote: OS X Snow Leopard cannot be install on this machine :-(

Use Sol8 intel as install server for NetraX1. possible?

I spend several days trying to reinstall the Solaris 8 10/01 into my brand new Netra X1 server. but no luck.
this is my first and only sparc server. i'm using Solaris 8 intel as install server and install the netra drivers...
my question is:
is it possible to using Solaris 8 intel as install server for Netra X1 net install?
I don't think i will buy one more sparc machine in this reason.

Yes, you can use an X86 box to install Solaris Sparc to a Netra X1.
First, you must be using InfoDoc 26310 ( available on SunSolve).
In between steps 6 & 7 of that procedure you must do the following:
After applying the mis.netra-x1.259-3836-03 script you will need to add the dmfe driver to the boot image served out by your jumpstart server. This is done at the shell prompt as root. Please note that in the example below the root image is located at: /jumpstart/2.8/sparc_1001/Solaris_8/Tools/Boot
on the example server. This location will vary depending on the setup of your server. The example is used to illustrate the point that you must specify the whole path all the way to the alternate root that is served across the network to your client. The sample command line is:
# add_drv -b /jumpstart/2.8/sparc_1001/Solaris_8/Tools/Boot -m "* 0600 root sys" -i '"pci128h,9102" "pci1282,9102" "ethernet"' dmfe
This can also be broken out using backslashes as follows:
# add_drv -b /jumpstart/2.8/sparc_1000/Solaris_8/Tools/Boot \
-m "* 0600 root sys" \
-i '"pci128h,9102" "pci1282,9102" "ethernet"' dmfe Note that the ">" symbols will be added as you hit return after each "\".
The above procedure must be done to each boot image you wish to install. For example, if you have a 10/2001 image and a 01/2001
image that you use for different configurations, you will need to add the dmfe driver to both .../Solaris_8/Tools/Boot directories.
Proceed with step 7 and beyond in the procedure from Info Doc 26310 to complete your installation.

at the mini tutorial i've made (mostly for personal use and reference) i didnt want to use a distro script (like genfstab) so people would understand better what is that step and how important is it.
I didnt find grub at iso (perhaps i wasnt looking for that).
I didnt want to install packages from a chroot environment.

I would add a section for static IP (ipv4 only).
But if there is a dhcp server, use it (easiest) and after rebooting to your system, configure it according to your static IP ruleset.

Having various net install issues

I am having a couple of different issues trying to push net install's from my Xserve (PPC 10.4.11) I am pushing to G5 towers (Also PPC 10.4.11).
Issue Number 1 - If I hold down the option key during the boot sequence the net install volume doesn't show up, only the local hard disk. If I hold down the N key during the boot sequence I get the flashing globe but then the machine boots of the local drive. If I log into the machine and go to start up disk The net install volume then shows up and I can boot to it. Any idea why the machines won't see it unless I log in and select it through startup disk?
Issue Number 2 - If I select the net install volume through the startup disk the install process SEEMS to go through fine. Only it doesn't. Looking at the lok it lists everyting that I think it should. Valadating target, source, erasing target, etc. Restoring goes from 1-10 and verifying goes from 1-10 as well. I then restart the machine but it looks exactly the same as before the install. So it's like it is installing but not if that makes any sense. Any ideas on this?
Any help would be greatly appericated. I have been at this for about a wekk with very little luck. Also, I have tried creating multiple images (Around 5) and I have also tried it on upwards of 10 machines (All the same model and config).

I did all the things you suggested & it is running much better! After that, in doing the permissions repair with Disk Utility there were some to repair initially, but in running again there were none to repair.
Font Book validate initially showed several fonts with major problems but after restoring fonts & doing the start up in Safe Mode & restarting, there were no major errors but still 9 with minor problems.
Are there additional things that I should now do?

In running Activity Monitor, under Real Memory kernel_task initially was 1.81 GB, then dropped to 430.4 MB but now when I open it was showing 1.28 GB but is up to 1.30 now. Maybe the following will help.

I am using Lightroom 5 and am hapy about it, but recently I hav encountered a problem when trying to edit an image in another program, i.e. Elements. I used the clone tool, saved the result and went back to Lightroom to open the image there. I did find a second copy, but this is identic with the one I already had in Lightroom, and I can see noe result of the clone process.

At the moment I would say it is uncertain whether Acrobat is completely ignoring the change, or whether the changes you are making aren't affecting the ink density. I have a suggestion for a test you could make to see which is the case.
When editing in Photoshop just add a box or mark on the image, for your tests.
- If this box does not appear in Acrobat, you know Acrobat is not seeing the edit
- If this box does appear in Acrobat, you know the problem is that your tool for changing ink densities is not taking effect.
