Problem scanning using iMac and HP6500a Plus

Just purchased a HP Officejet6500a Plus as the Lexmark I had was very temperamental and I was constantly un/reinstalling the software.
Set up the printing fine and also got through the set up of hp eprint and Airprint relatively easily.
Tried to scan yesterday and I keep getting a message saying the computer is not connected to the printer.
Any ideas on how to get the scanner to work properly?
I get the feeling that I wish I never bought the thing but hope there is a solution, otherwise why do Apple market these products if they don't work with Apple products properly???

What you need to uninstall is the HP software. Look on the disc they sent you or the folder it created on your system for an Uninstall utility. If you don't see and Uninstall Utility then it's safe to put all the HP software in the trash and then empty your trash.
"I looked in Print and Fax under System Preferences and I have the HP product listed as a Printer and a Fax but no scanner. Are you saying it should also be listed as a scanner or just as the printer?"
You will need to add the scanner, how you do this is pretty simple. Open the Print & Fax Preference and on the left pane you will see a + - symbol at the bottom of the box on the left. Click the + symbol. Then choose "Add other printer or scanner" and look to see if it sees the device. Then it's a matter of selecting it and adding it. If it doesn't then you will need to start all over from the beginning. If you do need to start over let me know and I'll give some instructions.
BTW most people run into problems like this when they don't follow Apple's instructions. Going forward when adding a peripheral look for Apple's instructions first.
Last if your computer is covered by AppleCare (meaning you purchased AppleCare or the system is less than 90 days old) you can call AppleCare and they will be happy to walk you through the correct process. They're closed Sunday but open M-Saturday.  The process should take less than 15 minutes.

  • I have two Iphones with different email addresses sharing one Apple ID. Will that cause problems with using messaging and FaceTime?

I have two Iphones 5 with different email addresses sharing one Apple ID account. Both are using IOS 8.
I would like to set up a new Apple Id for one of the phones and remove it from the old account.
If I do that, can I move all of the purchased apps and songs to the new Apple account?
Also, will sharing one Apple ID account with two devices cause problems with using messaging and FaceTime?

Sharing an iCloud account between two devices can be done without causing issues with iMessage and FaceTime, just go into Settings for each of these functions and designate separate points of contact (i.e. phone number only, or phone number and unique email address).  While that works, you'll then face the problem where a phone call to one iPhone will ring both if on the same Wi-Fi network -- but again, that can be avoided by changing each phone's settings.
Rather than do all that, don't fight it -- use separate IDs for iCloud.  You can still use a common ID for iTunes purchases (the ID for purchases and iCloud do not have to be the same) or you can use Family Sharing to share purchases from a primary Apple account.

Is there an easy way to have my "sent" emails (using Apple Mail) from my iMac also show up as "sent" email from my Macbook Pro?

Yes, if you have an IMAP account. From the Mail menu bar, select

  • Scanning using C410a and iMac Yosemite 10.10 OS

I am unable to scan more than a single page.  I have tried the Mac scanning software as well as two HP methods - connecting to the printer's webpage and double clicking the printer icon.  I am able to scan a single page, but have some difficulty saving the image.  I am cannot find a way to scan a multi page document -  there appears to be no multi page prompt or option.  Anyone have any thoughts?

    Hello @doughboy914,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing issues when attempting to scan from your HP Photosmart Premium Fax e-All-in-One C410a Printer to your Mac OS X 10.10 computer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. Now, due to the age of your printer HP does not have a downloadable Full Feature Software and Driver available for this model of printer on the Mac OS X 10.10 computer. Therefore, you are relying solely on an Apple Update driver in order to use the functions of your machine. Because you are only able to scan single page documents only there is a chance that the Apple Update driver failed to load successfully for your machine. To correct any software or driver conflicts that may be occuring, can I please have you follow the steps below.
    Step 1: Uninstall Printer:
It is important for troubleshooting purposes that we remove any existing instances of your printer from your computer so we have a nice clean slate to work with. Please click here to access the proper steps on how to remove your device. Once the support page opens please select the dropdown for 'Mac OS X v10.6, OS X v10.7, OS X v10.8, and OS X v10.9' as the steps are the same for your Mac OS X 10.10 computer. Next, please follow the steps under Method one, and Method two to reset your print system and uninstall your device. Once your HP Photosmart has been successfully removed please proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Verify and Repair your Disk Permissions on the Mac:
Open Macintosh HD and go to Applications
    Go to the Utilities Folder
    Open the Disk Utility
Select the Hard Drive volume you are using (usually on the left)
    Select Verify Disk Permissions
Once that process is done, select Repair Disk Permissions
     Step 3: Manually Load Driver:
Please click here to manually download and install the HP Printer Drivers v3.0 package for your Apple computer. Once the driver package has been downloaded, follow any onscreen instructions to install the package.
Once the driver package has been loaded successfully, please proceed to the next step.
Step 4: Check for Apple Updates:
    Go to Apple
    Select System Preferences
    Select Software Update
    Click Update Now
    Install your available updates
    Restart your computer
    Step 5: Add the Printer:
    1. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
    2. Click Print & Scan, and then check if the name of your printer displays in the Printers list.
    3. If your printer is already listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm communication with the Mac. Click the name of your printer, click the minus sign (), and then delete the printer
    4. Click the plus sign (), click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer
    5. Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu. Ensure that you have the HP Photosmart driver selected and not the AirPrint.
    6. Click Add to add the printer to the list.

Now that your printer is installed, please test printing and scanning to confirm that everything is now functioning properly. For instructions on the three supported methods of scanning in Mac OS X 10.10 please click here. Once the support document opens please follow the steps under 'Step 3: Scan the Document of Photo' and then choose the method you want to scan through.

  • Scanning with iMac and C310a photosmart premium all in one

I am trying to Scan a document and It scans just fine but fails when I try to save, print or email the document.  It works fine if I only scan one page, I can save, print or email the file.  However when I try to do this with a document of more than one page, when I go to save/print/email I get the following error box:   "ERROR:  An error occurred when saving the file because it couldn to be written to.  check the properties for the file to make sure it is not read only."  If I hit OK at this point my software hangs up and the only solution is to "Force Quit" the software to get out of the loop.
Yes, I have checked all files and none are read only, and it works fine with single page scans.
I am using the HP Scan utility.  When I try to scan using the controls on my printer it works fine but I can only scan single page documents.
I am running Imac with version 10.9.4 software.  I have run all software update scans and no updates show.  I have tried rebooting the mac and the printer, no change?
    Any help is appreciated.

Hello James, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are experiencing print and scan issues.  I would like to try and help.
I would suggest deleting the printer from your print system, using this document: Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once you have deleted it, I would suggest verifying and repairing the disk permissions: About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature.
I would also suggest running your Apple updates:  OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps
After the updates, I would recommend readding the driver to your system, using this document on OS X v10.9 Mavericks: Installing and Using the Printer on a Mac.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Why won't Apple fix the wifi connectivity problem with the iMac and new OS instead of just havin us go through hours of useless mock fixes!

I have spent hours with apple care about this problem with wifi connectivity.  According to all the posts I'm not alone.  I love my new IMAC
but i'll be glad to go back to my PC just so I can get my email without all the headaches.  It seems that Apple has lost interest in
the IMAC and all of the problems associated with the new OS.

Keep in mind that ASC is where people go to get help, so yes, you are seeing reports of people who are having WiFi connection issues. But while it might seem like there are lots of people having trouble, given the sheer number of iMacs in use, it is a very small number. Also keep in mind that WiFi isn't totally under Apple's control. There are dozens of WiFi routers. Even worse, the manufacturers of WiFi routers often release firmware upgrades to fix flaws without ever informing the consumer. And just to add to the confusion, while WiFi 801.2 n routers have been sold for several years, for most of that time there was no agreed upon standard!
So if you'd like help, first, what router do you have and have you checked the vendor site to see that it has the latest firmware?

  • Problem scanning via wireless and usb

i've a problem when using scan with wireless function(error message : network connection lost or OCR not installed) beside that i;ve allready installed all program including OCR. Then when i tried using with USB, HP scanner shorcut not function. Please need your help, thanks

Your printer can have both USB and wireless active at one time with no problem.
But why?  Connecting it wirelessly will allow it to be accessed from all computers on the network, regardless if those computers connect wired or wireless to the router.

  • HP CM1415FN not listed when trying to scan on Imac and Acrobat X

I have an Imac and Im running Acrobat X for Mac. I have a network Multi Function centre from HP CM1415FN. The Scanner works fine on the Mac when scanning from other programs but when i try and "create PDF from scanner" there are no devices listed in the scanner drop down list. Thanks for your help in advance.

When you go to Printer/Fax System Preferences does it resemble something like this:
    http://screencast.com/t/rCcyun77
if so set that to scanner first.
Then go into Acrobat and see if the scanner is now shown.
Its only been since OSX.6 That scanners have been acknowledged.
You may have to go to HP and download scanner software for your Printer and work through it.
THere is a SANE/TWAIN Driver  that you can download from The SANE project  (when you open first page of the website read text and look for link to Macintosh) when you get that page follow diections and download  all components  (5-6) for the OS your using.  Do not download the SDK files unless you are a developer. install all of them . Restart Computer. Repair permissions. Now go to preferences. You will see a new Control panel associated with the package of files downloaded. Now open it and select your Printer.
Once set quite preferences, Fire up Acrobat. See if it shows something like SANE/TWAIN.  If so your all set.
Note the software is slow because it converting SANE Commands to Twain Commands . But it works quite nicely.

  • Problems with new iMac and Adobe Creative Suite 2

Just wondering if anyone can help me out. I am a Graphic Design student and just bought Adobe Creative Suite2. I installed it on my new iMac, and it wouldn't open InDesign or Photoshop although I had no problems with Acrobat and Illustrator. A pop-up window stated that the program "unexpectedly quit". I have uninstalled and reinstalled three times and was on hold with Adobe Tech Support for three hours until I finally gave up. If anyone knows what's going on I would appreciate it!

I dragged the installer from the install disk to my desktop and was more successful in installing problem CS2 apps. Make sure to update everything as well. Some times it takes a restart to get the finickiness out of PS.

  • I have a used imac and want to add my itunes library from my i pad

Can i add my itunes library from my ipad to a used imac?

It is best to add your music from your original computer that music came from. Copy the folder from your old computer to your new one and add the songs to iTunes.
It is possible however to do it without your old computer. You will have to rely on 3rd party software like MusicRescue or Senuti. Many people frown on this method as it could easily lead to piracy (as so many other things can in this world...)

  • Using iMac and Macbook at the same time (not as 2nd monitor)

    Hi all,
So I have an iMac (2013) and a Macbook Air (2012). I do NOT want to get a Macbook Pro and an external monitor. Here's what I'd love to do:
If I have both computers up and running on my work table, I'd love to be able to transition between them as seemlessly as if the Macbook was a secondary monitor. However, I want to access the Macbook Air's harddrive and contents while doing so. Example: I have Skype running on only the Macbook Air, a call comes in, I want to be able to mouse over from the iMac and take the call. I also want to be able to drag and drop content between the two computers (without using AirDrop).
Ambitious, I know, but is this possible? My understanding is that Target Mode means that I'm only using the screen, not the actual computer, so I wouldn't be able to run seperate software on the 2 computers. And I'm not sure an ethernet connection is possible because the Macbook Air doesn't have one. Any WiFi software solutions?
As always, thanks for any and all input!
    Best,
    Rob

You can do this with the application Teleport

  • CL_GUI_ALV_GRID Problems when using enter and f4 in one ALV

    Hi guys,
    i have the following problem:
I Use a ALV, which has a column MATNR. The ALV provides the standard search help for this field automatically. so far so good. BUT i also need to read additional data, such as GLD, Material shortext etc, when the users presses the Enter Key.
    Here is my coding:
          CLASS lcl_events DEFINITION
    CLASS lcl_events_0300 DEFINITION.
      PUBLIC SECTION.
        METHODS:
          handle_data_changed
                FOR EVENT data_changed OF  cl_gui_alv_grid
                IMPORTING er_data_changed sender.
    ENDCLASS.                    "lcl_events DEFINITION
The problem that occurs: if i select a material via f4, i just can add one material to the alv. if i place the cursor into the second line, press f4 again, the alv overwrites the MATNR in the first line
i think the problem has to do with the fact, that the alv runs throug my enter event, when pressing f4.
thats how i registered my event:
      g_o_alv_grid_bart_0300->register_edit_event(
      EXPORTING
       " i_event_id = g_o_alv_grid->MC_EVT_MODIFIED ).
         i_event_id = g_o_alv_grid->mc_evt_enter ).
    ...und EventHandler zuweisen

      SET HANDLER g_o_alv_events_0300->handle_data_changed FOR g_o_alv_grid_bart_0300.

  • Using iMac and Macbook together..

I've read that it's possible to use an iMac's screen as a monitor for a MacBook Pro via Thunderbolt but is it a simple case of plugging in the cable and I'm good to go with the laptop and then unplugging it (without having to power down) and carrying on using the iMac as normal?
    THANKS

Correct. Note that you can only use your iMac as an external display for your MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt if you have got a Mid 2011 or newer iMac. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302
It's as simple as connecting the cable and press Command and F2 keys on your iMac to turn on Target Display. When you have finished with Target Display, press Command and F2 keys on the iMac and unplug the Thunderbolt cable, so you will be able to use your iMac without any problem

  • Help I bought a used imac and cannot get passed the password

The support tech said that I could probably get assistance from someone here. I bought the computer from the goodwill two days ago and it is password protected with two user names. Ever time I turn on the computer it goes to choose user and enter password. I don't know how to get beyond this point and the support tech said that since the computer is a 2000 model and passed the warrinty period It would cost me $49.00. I don't have the money for this, that is the reason I went and bought a used computer. So if you could help me out that would be greatly appreciated. I didn't know which board to post this on so if in in the wrong one I apologize.

    Hi, Rhonda.
Dale has answered your question, but for future reference, if your computer was made in 2000 it must be a G3 imac and you'll find more people who know about your computer in the CRT iMac forums. This forum is for the flat-panel imac, which came out in 2002.

  • I recently purchased a used iMac and cannot load iPhoto and other apps?

I recently purchased a used iMac.  It was wiped clean and has the newest version of Mac OSX installed.
When I go to the app store, it shows iPhoto and has an accept prompt next to it, though when i enter my apple id to accept, it says I cannot do that as it was previously accepted, obviously by original owner.  It says i could purchase it, but there is no available prompt to purchase it.
Questions: Do i have to purchase?  How do i go about doing that?
    Thanks!

If the machine was originally configured for Snow Leopard (10.6.x) or earlier  you should have gotten the original DVDs, one of which had the iLife apps on it. If it came with Lion already pre-installed you can try Lion Recovery, OS X Lion: About but I doubt it will download the iLife apps for you. In short you probably have to buy them or get the original DVDs from the seller. Another option is to call AppleCare and for a nominal cost they will replace the original media. You can find their number by using the AppleCare Contact Info link.
