Problem sending finished movie to iDVD

I have just completed a small family birthday movie but when I try to send it to iDVD a previous movie comes in the iDVD starting section not allowing me to create a titled/picture beginning for my new movie.I cannot get rid of the old one either.Any suggestions?

Use this routine instead:
1. Close your imovie project, and open iDVD.
2. If iDVD opens to a previous project, don't worry - just go File>New.
3. Choose a theme, and then go File>Import, and navigate to and select your imovie project.
Should be straightforward from there on.

Hi Ian - here are some links to a few Apple Tutorials (including video tutorials) that will give you a sound understanding about copying and moving Events and Projects:

All of the above information is also accessible from the iMovie menu item "iMovie Help". A browse through Help will uncover lots of other useful information for you. It's time consuming, but time well spent.
Regarding the projects that you currently have on an external drive (those that were moved using Finder), I would suggest that you simply drag them back to their original location (if known). They should then reconnect to the Event (or Events) when you next open iMovie.
On your internal (local) drive, iMovie projects are stored in your User (Home) folder Movies/iMovie Projects. On an external drive, projects are located in a folder named iMovie Projects at the top level of the drive (not in a Movies folder). So, drag the old (currently unusable) projects to the appropriate folder on either your internal or external drive.
Please come back if you need further advice - I'll do the best I can.

  • Problem with split screen quicktime movie to iDVD

hey folks, i've just spent two 6-hour renderings for naught and have the following problem:
    QT Pro 6.5.2
    iDVD 5
    OS 10.3.9
I pulled together a Quicktime movie consisting of talking head interview, then split screen (two clips simultaneously), back to talking head, then split screen again, etc etc.
the first time i rendered the composite Quicktime movie to iDVD, my split screen background was a sickly lime green color. blech
so, i added a black slide in TIFF format ONLY to the split screen video portions. played around with the Layers property until my split screen video clips were in front of the black background. recut and pasted my full Quicktime movie again.
However, upon my second iDVD rendering, a funny thing ocurred. Now, when the DVD gets to a split screen portion, the VERY LAST FRAME OF THE PREVIOUS TALKING HEAD CLIP freezes, and appears in the background of my split screen clips.
    What gives?
I plan to do some testing, but sure would like to shortcut this problem, it's eating away at my weekend and i need to get this project done.
thanks for any insight you can give

Thank you for the feedback. I wasn't privy to the process that converted these files originally but suspected the theory on compression/codec initially used.. may re-convert. Also will try Disk Imaging... seems that this is not an uncommon problem in the iDVD 5 world...

  • Problem to burn a movie in iDVD

After I have edited a movie in iMovie, I would burn it to a disc. As I have made, you can only burn an edited movie into iDVD.
But it is not. When you press the "burn" button it should be a progress box where it should be how long it takes to burn the disc. But there is no box, but it says I must insert the disk in the mac, though I have already done so.
What should I do? Could it be something with the movie format, which is originally from a video camera (avi.)
I've actually been able to burn music, pictures and movies directly in the Finder, but those burn as files without having been edited.
    Help me, dear Mac users!

    Hi
But there is no box, but it says I must insert the disk in the mac, though I have already done so.
YES - this is What NOT to do !
If You insert a DVD before asked for it - Mac will ask You if it should format it.
You can select to ignore this and it should work BUT IF You accept to format Your
    Mac will do a Data-DVD and not a Video-DVD.
If You've not been asked to format - then Your Mac can't identify the inserted DVD
(still not asked for by iDVD)

  • Sharing More than One Movie with iDVD????

Okay.. I would like to know if there is another way to burn MORE than one movie an iDVD project. It seems that sending the movie straight to iDVD creates it's own project, and when you try to send another movie, it creates a completely different project. I know I can send a movie to Media browser but the quality of the movie is much better when I share it via the command in iMovie 09 (Shrare->iDVD). I've noticed that the file type is different when you send it to iDVD than when you put it in Media Browser as well.
Currently this is what I do.. Share it to iDVD.. Then I save that iDVD project to my desktop. I close iDVD, and start sharing my second movie. I then Control-Click on the first iDVD project and choose "Show Package Contents". I then dig into the trenches of that file to find the movie file. I then drag it to the desktop and delete the first iDVD project. When the new iDVD project gets made, I simply drag the file on my desktop into the iDVD project I want it in and then it works. This seems like a so un-apple way to do this though. I think iMovie definetly needs and update here. It's great if you ony want to burn a 1 movie to iDVD, but what if you want to do more. There should be a way to select multiple movies to send to iDVD or the option of adding a new imported movie to the current project in iDVD.
Am I missing something or is there another way to do this? Is there a good export option in QuickTime? DV doesn't work because the quality I get is horrible. Somehow the shared to iDVD movie is the best quality and it's a QuickTime file via h.264. Is that my best export option? Sharing with the Media browser creates a mv4 file that's much smaller in size, even at the largest setting. The frames are more jumpier when iDVD finishes with it than the h.264 file.
Any better suggestions? Also, where do I go to make suggestions for Apple. I can't find it anymore on this website.

Q:Also, where do I go to make suggestions for Apple.
A: Launch iDvd and then scroll down to Provide iDvd Feeback.

  • Best way to archive a finished movie?  Take 2

Hi, I need to clear off the captured video for several projects off my hard drive, and close out those FCE projects. What is the best way to archive my finished movie? I thought it would be to create a 'self-contained' Quicktime file, but learned that if I want to import such a file into DVD Studio Pro, it won't work. Should I save the movie as a 'self-contained' Final Cut Express Movie file (which will import into DVDSP) or is such a file inferior to a Quicktime .mov file? Or is there some other option?
    Thanks, Bob

Thanks for your reply. I've been experimenting and here is what I found.
Yes, iDVD does import a Quicktime file, but DVD Studio Pro doesn't. Go Figure. DVDSP gives an Alert Box that says, "Incompatible Format". (FCE will import either a Quicktime file or a FCE Movie File.)
I saved a short movie (about a minute and a half) both as Quicktime file and FCE Movie file. Both are 'self-contained'. Interestingly, the (highest quality) Quicktime file is only 163 MB while the FCE Movie File is 304 MB.
So they are not the same. I would tend to think that the FCE file is better for archiving, assuming that the larger size (304 MB) means better quality. But, on the other hand, it seems that a Quicktime file is something that is more universally used. For instance, I may want to send a file to be used by someone who doesn't have Final Cut.
    Confused, Bob

  • How do I move an iDVD project to external

I recently upgraded to iDVD '08 and see that now, one of the output selections is iDVD, meaning it goes straight to that. When this is selected, it automatically begins creating the file as opposed to asking where you'd like to store it. It ended up in my documents on my HD. I figured no worry, I'd just move it over to my ext HD since it was over 2GB. But when I did this and tried to open it, it said 2 files were missing. So, couple of questions. First, I remember with the last that you just output a file that you then, yourself, dragged into iDVD. This seemed very easy. But with this way, it seems to automate it. How can I output so that is does it the old way, where it generates a file that I can place in iDVD myself, and that I can store on an external. Second, if that's not possible, what files do I need to locate to move to the ext, where do they hide, and where should I store them?
Why do they make what was perfectly easy, hard?

If I understand you correctly, you are actually asking two different questions.
    1. Do you mean that with iMovie 08, when you select to 'share' your movie to iDVD that iDVD opens a new project automatically?
You do not have to use the output options in iMovie. Just close your iMovie and open iDVD yourself, choose to create a new project, select a theme, then go to the Media tab, then 'Movies,' locate your iMovie and drag it onto iDVD's main screen. Be careful not to drop it into a menu Drop Zone.
    2. You also would like to have your iDVD project saved to a different location than the default 'Documents' file. When you open iDVD and create a new project, you will see a dropdown box showing Documents as the save location. You can change that right from that drop box.
However, it is recommended that you save your project on your computer's drive, not an external drive. The iDVD application itself must run from your computer. Some users have successfully created and burned projects located on other drives, but many have run into problems.
You can certainly save your completed iDVD projects to an external drive by doing a 'save as disk image' from within the iDVD project. This will look like the burn process, and take just as long for the encoding, but the end result is a disk image file, not a burned DVD disk. The disk image file is a self-contained file that is an exact replica of your iDVD project. It can be moved without losing the ability to burn DVD disks from it in the future.
Remember that an iDVD project itself should be thought of as a container that has references to media files used in it, but it does not actually CONTAIN the media files. When a DVD is burned from an iDVD project, iDVD locates the needed media and copies it for the burn, doing this for each disk burned. Sometimes there are burn 'glitches' where the first DVD disk burns fine, but others may not. Also with an iDVD project, if you rename, move, change or delete any of the files used in the project, iDVD will be unable to locate them and will not be able to open properly. With a saved disk image file, you can safely delete the original iDVD project and the original iMovie, thus saving drive space.
Burning DVD disks form a disk image file using Disk Utility or Toast is a better way to burn DVD disks since the files are all encoded in the disk image file and do not have to be copied in each time.
Please post back if any of this is not clear, or does not answer what you need to know.

  • Apple TV can't access iTunes, but I can send a movie from my iMac to Apple TV

Why does my Apple TV 50% of the time not access my iTunes on my iMac, but when I go to my iMac and play a movie, I can then send that movie to my Apple TV and it works 100% of the time.  When I try accessing the iTunes from my Apple TV it says, "Unable to connect to [email protected] library.  I have 5 Apple TV's in my house and this only happens to the last two Apple TV's I purchased.  Any suggestions besides the obvious"make sure home sharing is turned on, on all your devices", would be much appreciated.  They are all set to wireless and they all have excellent signal strength.

I completely understand what is happening. I know that you are connected to the Internet. I made the suggestion because I have seen it work in similar circumstances. The Apple iTunes servers can be a bit fussy about things and sometimes rebooting the router clears up this miscommunication between iTunes and your network.
Have you tried signing into your account and then try to sync again. Go to Store>View Account. You will have to enter your password. Then try to sync again. Or try signing out completely in Store>Sign out. Quit iTunes, sign in again and then try to sync again.
Sometimes refreshing settings will help clear up weird problems.

  • Why is the "Send to iDVD" command missing from the share menu in iPhoto 9.4.3 when trying to send a slideshow to iDVD?

How come the "Send to iDVD" command is missing from the share menu? In iPhoto I used to be able to send my slideshows to iDVD simply my clicking on the slideshow, selecting the "Share" menu at the top and going to "Send to iDVD". Now in iPhoto 9.4.3 that option is missing.
Further i am also using iDVD 7.1.2 and running OSX version 10.8.3.
    Thanks!

Export the slideshow via the Export button at the bottom of the slideshow window with Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, choose a theme and drag the exported movie file to the menu window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Having problems importing my .mov file.

I am having problems importing several .mov files into iMovie. I also can't import .wmv files and I have been utterly confused. I know I have to convert the files but I don't want to pay for a program because I will only be converting 4 files. Please help!

    What is Mpeg Streamclip
It is a free conversion application that accesses the QT structure and all installed QT components without having to pay the $30 for QT Pro or purchasing GarageBand. It's "engine" is MPEG-based, so it can do some things that QT Pro cannot do ( e.g., retaining audio content when converting multiplexed compression formats). On the other hand, it cannot perform layer operations like QT Pro can so these applications are somewhat complementary.
and is there anyway you can send me a link to download this program please?

  • Nightmares exporting 16:9 movie for iDVD

I keep running into the same problem at the end of my projects. I'm editing in PAL 16:9 in FCE, and everything looks great on screen. I want to export the movie into iDVD. If I use the standard Export-> Quicktime option it keeps ending up in 3:4. This seems to happen with every export I do no matter what options I choose!
I've managed to export it into a DV file win 16:9 format, and it plays in widescreen in QTPro and in funder preview, and this has worked in iDVD, but it doesn't import the chapter markers, which I really want to have. (I am using 16:9 iDVD templates and have checked the project is in 16:9).
I've spent hours today trying to get the movie to export right and work in iDVD and can't get a perfect solution. Can anyone give me the right settings once and for all?!?!
    Thanks

  • Sending a slideshow to iDVD

from the apple website one can read: "Using photo albums and slideshows created in iPhoto...
iDVD recognizes and accepts albums created in iPhoto. iDVD supports iPhoto slideshows too, indirectly. To use an iPhoto slideshow, create it in iPhoto, then share it using the iPhoto Send to iDVD menu option. The iPhoto slideshow will be added to the open menu of an existing iDVD project or to a new project if iDVD is not open. It’s important to note that iPhoto slideshows are sent to iDVD with all timing and transitions intact, so you cannot manually control those settings. It may be easiest to think of iPhoto slideshows as acting like movies once they’re added to an iDVD project, since you can’t modify the iPhoto slideshow from within the iDVD project."
However, it is my experience that the slideshow settings for timing and transitions one has made in iPhoto actually do not transfer to i DVD, and instead one must first open iDVD and then add a slideshow manually. What was your experience?

Yes sending a slideshow to iDVD always seems To insert it self inside the last project I have done.
This happens even if iDVD is NOT even open when sending a slideshow to it.
    It drives my nuts.
Ok, so how can I make sure when send a slideshow to iDVD it opens in it's own project?

  • Why can't I send quicktime movies via attachment?

    Hello everyone
This is my first post since making the transition over to mac a few months ago. While the transition has been pretty smooth, I have run into a little problem which I can't seem to get my head around.
I have recently started using .mac as my primary email account. Most of my friends do not have a .mac account (80% have hotmail accounts) but sending photos and text-based emails have not been a problem.
However, I've been trying to send quicktime movie files as attachments (< 10 mb limit) and I keep getting a error message "Can not send message using server "smtp.mac.com".
From quickly browsing the discussion boards, there was a suggestion to change the port settings from 25 to 587 which I tried. Unfortunately, It didn't made a difference so I've changed it back.
I am currently participating in the 60 day trial - does apple place any restrictions on what I can or can't send during that period?
I know I've probably made a silly mistake somewhere - I just can't seem to find it.
Any help would be most appreciated
    Thank you

Usually webmail servers with size limits refuse to accept a message
that is too long and generally notify you of that.
True if a message that exceeds the overall message size limit for the recipient's incoming mail server is actually sent.
I'm basing my conclusion this is an overall message size limit problem on the size of one of the pre-encoded QuickTime files the OP has tried to send and the following copied from his first post in this thread.
I have recently started using .mac as my primary email account. Most of my friends do not have a .mac account (80% have hotmail accounts) but sending photos and text-based emails have not been a problem.
I don't believe he is accessing/using his Hotmail account in Mail to send these messages since he referred to trying to send a QuickTime file attachment to his Hotmail account with his .Mac account via the Mail.app but I may be wrong.
Since you are a relatively new Mail.app user, I'll give you an example of an improper error message provided by the Mail.app.
If the incoming mail server for an account that you access with the Mail.app is down or experiencing a temporary problem, the Mail.app will prompt you to manually enter the account's password when checking the account for new Mail even though this password is stored in your Keychain instead of a more proper error message such as:
There was a problem communicating with the incoming mail server for this account.
The incoming mail server is not available and may be down or experiencing a problem.
Please check with your ISP or email account provider for this account.
Sometimes there is a problem with the Keychain password for the account that running Keychain First Aid will (or should) resolve but the problem is not having any idea where to look or where the problem lies based on this prompt to manually enter the account's password only.
I've been using the Mail.app exclusively since Jaguar was introduced and such an improper prompt without a valid error message is my biggest complaint about the application.
Sorry to get off topic here.
