Problem using app.launchURL with Adobe Reader X

Hello -
Have an application that is going live in a couple of days.  In many of our fillable PDF forms we use:
app.launchURL("http://www.yoursitehere.com", true);
This worked fine until our company pushed out Adobe Reader X to all of our employees.  Now the above function does nothing.
Is anyone experiencing similar?   When I say the function does nothing, you click on button that runs the above function, and no new window opens with specified URL.

I am not quite sure what that means.  Can you please explain?
This has worked on same client pc before with version 7 - 9.   Now doesn't work anymore since upgrade to Adobe Reader X.
Note:  ALL other AcroScript functions work properly
Really appreciate any assistance you have.
Jeremy
*** UPDATE *** - I just tested more.   The only thing that is NOT working is the second parameter of the launchURL.
If I remove that parameter, or put FALSE, then the URL opens.  However, it opens in the same window which is not what we need.
Putting TRUE in there produces no result.

  • Problem opening pdf files with Adobe Reader in Windows 7

I bought a new Dell (Inspiron 5110) with pre-installed Windows 7 Home Premium (Version 6.1 SP1, 64 bit) and pre-installed Adobe Reader X (10.1.1). I cannot open ANY of my old pdf files with the Adobe reader (even after I re-installed the Adobe Reader). On another computer with Windows 7 I get the same error message. When I installed several other pdf-readers (Sumatra, Foxit, ..) I can still not open the pdf's -- but all the pdf's still open under Windows XP on my old computer and they also open on all my colleagues' non-Windows 7 computers. So it appears to be a Windows 7 problem. The Adobe error message says 'Adobe Reader could not open _.pdf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (…..).
N.B.: I can download pdf files from the internet and can then open these 'new' pdf files with Adobe Reader X.
N.B.2.: Most of the 'old' pdf files are scientific articles downloaded from various journal websites 2002-2011, so their quality should be out of question.
N.B.3.:I've transfered the files via memory stick and portable HD.
N.B.4.: If I try to open the pdf's via 'Open with' the problem remains the same.
N.B.5.: When, on my Win7 Dell, I've uploaded/attached one of these old pdf files to an email the rtecipient could not tead it. But he could read it when I'd sent the same file from my old Win XP computer.
N.B.6.: I have repeated this last observation: When I upload an old pdf file on my Win7 Dell to my email account and then send it to myself, I cannot open/read it on my Win XP (nor on the Dell, of course). Although the file size is precisely the same.
N.B.7.: When I download a new pdf on my Dell, then upload/attach it to an email also on the Dell and send it to myself, I can download and read the attached pdf on both computers.
Would be grateful for any suggestions.

    This is really strange.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but from what I can understand, any PDF which is launched on your Win 7 OS fails to open, even though the same file works perfectly fine on your Win XP machine?
Could you please run a full system anti virus scan on the said PDFs that are present on your local system. It could be a case of infected PDFs.
Also, it would be great if you could try and download some of the erroneous PDFs from the web again, and see if you experience the same behavior.
    Thanks

  • I am having problems viewing email attachments with adobe reader? Help?

Hi there. Can anyone help me please?

This is your second post.  Does it occur to you that we have no way of knowing what you are doing, or what system, OS, mail client, Reader version, or anything else you have in front of you?  There may be psychics, but they are usually in a different line of work.

  • Problems displaying an image on Adobe Reader 8.1.2

    Hi guys,
We are trying to display a JPG image in an InteractiveForm. So, we set an Image (StaticImage) to be loaded using the following Formcalc script on Page Initialize event:
    StaticImage1.value.image.href = $record.ImageURL
On our last project, we could display a JPG image with Adobe Reader 6 (with some alert messages), 7 and 8 (7 and 8 fully functional). But in this one, the same solution doesn't work. The unique difference between both solutions is the URL format. Last project displays an image based on a normal URL ("http://app.client.com/photo/1234.jpg"), and in the current project we create a PNG or JPG image based on a JFreeChart, generating an URL to access it ("http://server1:54321/webdynpro/resources/vendor.com/..(long)../graph43211234.jpg").
When we load it using a computer with Adobe Reader 7.0.x installed, the bellow message is displayed requesting an action:
"Acrobat is attempting to connect to the site:
    http://server1:54321/webdynpro/resources/vendor.com/..(long)../graph43211234.jpg
If you trust the site click "Allow", otherwise click "Block".
Possible actions: Block, Allow and a check "Remember my action for the site: server1"
Allowing the connection, the images are displayed. But, in a machine with Adobe Reader 8.1.2 installed, sometimes it asks for permission to access the URL, sometimes not. And, in both cases, in this version it doesn't display the images...
Can anyone shed any light on this? Also, is there a way to block this annoying message?
    Regards,
    Douglas Frankenberger
    P.S.:
1 - The Image is not marked as Embedded. This option don't seems to make any difference, as on our last project the StaticImage was not flaged as Embed, but the JPG file was embeded in the PDF anyway...
2 - Interactive Form display type: native. Mode: updateDataInPDF
3 - In current project, when we set the same image the we had set on the old project, it loads successfully. Also, the generated JFreeChart image is fully accessible when displayed directly in IE using its URL.
    4 - Versions:
      - Client: Windows XP Professional
      - NWDS 7.0.10
      - Adobe Livecycle 7.0.50519.0
      - Adobe Reader: 7.0.8, 7.0.9 and 8.1.2

    Hi Amita.
We already tried it (checked / unchecked), but it seems to make no difference. There is a strange behavion on this:
    - When I set it checked, on a computer disconnected from the web and running Adobe Reader 7.0.9, it asks for permission to access a resource (as I said before). In this case, even disconnected, it shows up my image independent of allowing/blocking the access to the external resource. In other words, it is embedded (I think...), but continues asking for access anyway.
    - The same scenery above, but using Adobe Reader 8.1.2 instead of 7.0.9.... sometimes it asks for permission, sometimes not. But in both cases, it doesn't display the images...

    Douglas Frankenberger

  • When I open a document in Firefox with Adobe Reader 9, I am unable to print it (no problem when using Internet Explorer)

I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit), using Firefox 8.0. When I open a document with Adobe Reader 9, I am unable to do anything with it (print, save, etc.) other than view it. When I use Internet Explorer I don't have this problem.

Not sure what you mean by truncated troubleshooting report, but here's what I copied from "troubleshooting" under "help". My printer is selected as the default printer in Devices and Printers. Also, remember that a document that won't print in Firefox prints fine in Internet Explorer.

  • Problem with Adobe Reader Plug-In (7, 8, and 9) on Windows XP

We are experiencing a problem with the Adobe Reader plug-in and viewing documents hosted at our site.  The problem seems to happen with larger (over 5 MB) PDF files enabled for fast web viewing.  The problem never happens when viewing PDF image only files which are not enabled for fast web viewing.  The problem happens inside and outside our firewall, so it is not a firewall problem.  My organization has been hosting PDF files to the web at least all this decade, and this is the first time we have experienced and documented this problem on this scale.  We have ruled out the program creating the PDF file is causing the problem as I have eight sample PDF files created and modified by a variety of programs exhibiting the same issue.

I can reproduce the problem with Internet Explorer 8.0.6 and Firefox 3.5.4 using Adobe Acrobat Plug-In 7.0.9.50 running on Windows XP Professional SP3.  Others have reproduced the problem with 8 and 9 versions of the plug-in on Windows XP Professional and Home.  Oddly, no one has been able to reproduce the problem with Unix/Linux versions of the plug-in or third party plug-ins.  This points to it being something wrong with Adobe Reader.
The problem is when I attempt to view one of the eight PDFs in my browser, I can severely stall or lock it up if I attempt to view more than the first page before the whole document downloads.  Sometimes if you wait it out, the browser will unlock, but not display text on the pages.  Sometimes if you wait for the whole document to load before switching pages, it works.  Sometimes you can start switching pages and the document will not lock up at all.  All eight documents can be viewed without issue if downloaded to the PC's hard drive and then viewed with Adobe Acrobat 7.0.
Can anyone point me to a technical document or reason why we would be experiencing this issue?  Even better, does anyone know the solution to these issues?
Any help will be much appreciated.

I looked at a few documents. They appear to be scans and scans that have been OCRd. It is also likely they have not been optimized for page view. This means that the document has to be fully downloaded before viewed. That means the browser may appear to freeze until the entire document is downloaded. Downloading the entire document appears to be a reasonable way to handle these files.

  • Issue with Adobe Reader (Desktop app) on Mac OS X Lion

    Hi there,
I want to print a pdf like a booklet.
I first try with Adobe Reader 9 but it says something lik "Unable to print document" and "no pages selected for print". And the print to pdf doesn't work either.
here is a screenshot of the parameters pop-up (sorry it's in french)
After that I decided to install Adobe Reader X (10.1) but when I choose print from the menu nothing pop-up it's like if print was disable (but the text in the menu is not grayed out)
So how can I achieve what I want to do?
PS: I cannot install the 10.1.1 update. I've tried two way:  first from the drop down menu it says that an internal error has happened (the loading of an application's ressource failed), second I've downloaded the update from the website and an internal error occurs during the installation process.
    Thanks in advance
    Camille Gallet

Thanks for the suggestion! I found what the problem was. I dragged the old Adobe folder to the trash in an attempt to uninstall it. I then downloaded a fresh copy and installed that. When the Adobe 5.0 folder (for Adobe Reader 5.0.5) was open, I saw the "CoolTypeCarbonLib" file in it. I then double-clicked the Adobe Reader icon and it started just fine. Then, I pressed the Alt/Option key and dragged the Adobe Reader icon to make a copy on the desktop. When I double-clicked the icon I created on the desktop, I got the "CoolTypeCarbonLib" error. So, I made he mistake of incorrectly making a copy of the Adobe Reader icon on the desktop.
Now that it's working, how can I make an Adobe Reader icon on the desktop that will actually work?
have the Software Update CP check if you need any
updates. You don't have to use the Software Update CP
to download and install them, but I'm betting it'll
report about 6 required updates you should get.
CarbonLib v1.6 will be one of them.
As well as iTunes v2.0.4, AppleScript v1.8.3, Java
    1.2.6, etc.
Ok, how do I do this? I'm not really a Mac user.
    Thanks!
    Peace...

  • Problem with Adobe reader on iPad air

I have looked all through Google to solve this problem but can't find help anywhere.
I Have an IPad Air and want to open some PDFs files which are in a password area on a website. this works fine except for on my IPad. When I click on the file I want to open a page appears but only the first page and it doesn't even seem to be a PDF file. The first page is a school exercise but I can't read the answers on the second page. If I click on the box with the menu I can't even find the open with Adobe reader. I Have the newest version of reader for iOS and have also signed in but nothing opens the PDFs file.
I Really hope someone can help me.

I Have an IPad Air and want to open some PDFs files which are in a password area on a website.
I am not sure what the "PDFs files which are in a password area on a website" mean.
Are the PDFs from your school called "protectedPDF" by Vitrium by any chance?  Or do they use some other third-party technology for DRM (Digital Rights Management)?
Would you share one of the PDF documents with us?  I have sent you the instructions on how to share a PDF document with us (Adobe).
    Thank you for your help.

  • Problem with adobe reader, commenting

one of our authors is using adobe reader x 11,1, and I send him a pdf (enabled commenting and measuring), but for some reason the commenting-fields does not show on his screen?
should I save the pdf in another way?

What do you mean by "commenting fields" exactly? By “commenting filds” I mean the tools in top of the page – delete, highlight etc. When I send the pdf, I save it as “file - save as -  reader extended pdf – enable commenting and measuring”, otherwise the commenting tools normally don’t appear by the author.
Are they existing comments? no, it is the text in his pdf-book he needs to correct
Is he able to access the commenting tools? no
You can try sending a non-enabled version since Reader 11 can add comments to a non-enabled document. will try that J

  • Using the JavaScript Debugger with Adobe Reader X (10.1.0) ?

    Hello all,
Quite new to JavaScript in Acrobat I am trying to write a 4 page Form with CenoPDF and check/debug it with Adobe Reader X (10.1.0) on a Windows 7 (32bit, usually no Admin rights) PC. I realise Acrobat Professional would be a more appropriate tool, but for the moment I hope to get away with Reader.
Following this instruction I managed to get the Javascript Debugger running with Reader X, but there is a serious issue:
The Debugger window often crashes - and with it the whole Reader - after clicking around on a few controls (triangles in the Scripts window or others). First the font changes, then letters disappear, controls disappear and soon after the whole user interface freezes (see the two screenshots below).
    Questions:
Do others also have problems with crashing Debuggers?
Is there a known solution or work around to this problem?
Many thanks for your help or some info, BobDuke

I am having the same problem.  Win 7 or Win XP doesn't matter the problems seems to be with Adobe 10.1.0.  Works ok with Word, but not adobe reader.  Doesn't un-collate if the box is checked.  Tried to unchecked then recheck.  Use to work but now it doesn't.

    Hi,
I have a problem with adobe reader in my cell phone E71 model recently.I could open any pdf files till yesterday, but now without any reason the adobe reader icon in the office folder does not open.I wanna know what should I do.

Might be some problem with adobe reader. You may Google another pdf app called pdf plus. Install it and see if the problem is solved or not.

  • Problem printing patterns with Adobe Reader 9

    Hello all
We have a mix environment of Windows 7/Vista with Adobe Reader 9.2 and Windows XP/2k with Adobe Reader 8.1.7. Documents including charts with patterns created with the option Save as PDF from Word 2007(SP2) look and print fine with Adobe Reader 8, but the same documents look and print the patterns a lot more compressed with Adobe Reader 9. All computers print to the same printers with the same print drivers (a windows print server). Attached is a sample PDF file. I've installed Adobe Reader 9.2 also on Win2k and WinXP computers with the same results, so the problem doesn't come from the OS.
Any idea on what's wrong with Adobe Reader 9? Is it a configuration problem or defaults changed in Adobe Reader 9?
    Thanks in advance.

You need to use Adobe Acrobat; Adobe Reader does not support editing.

  • Having compatiblity issues with adobe reader.  What pdf file software should I use with Mac

Having problem with Adobe reader what software works well on mac for pdf file creation/reading and sending via email.  Also how do I uninstall adobe reader so that all hints of it are erased.

To remove the Adobe PDF Reader:
    1. Drag the Adobe Reader folder from the Applications folder to the Trash
    2. Remove AdobePDFViewer.plugin from the Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder
Macs offer good PDF capability in the operating system. You can use Word or other program to create somthing you want to save/send in PDF format, then choose print, click on the PDF button at the bottom of the print window, where you can choose to email the PDF file.

  • Internet Explorer 8 with Adobe Reader 11 in one package - embedded PDF problem

    Hello,
I am trying to package Internet Explorer 8 together with Adobe Reader 11 in ThinApp 5 for Windows 7. I am capturing on clean Windows XP with IE6. Of course, I am using "IEShims.dll" for IE8 in order to make it work in ThinApp.
From the first look everything is ok, both application could be launched, but there are several issues:
    1) When I try to open embedded PDF file, IE hangs and loses response. I have found workaround for this: Adobe Reader should be opened at least 1 time before opening embedded PDF files. But I have found 2nd issue.
    2) Print button does not work. When I try to print embedded PDF from Adobe Reader instance, it does not work. Documents could be printed from virtual IE8 and from separate instance of Adobe Reader.
What could you advise me? Are there any "small" tricks and tweaks that may help me with this?
    Thank you in advance!

Have you tried capturing these application in separate packages?  I have been successful in capturing IE8 in one package and Adobe Reader XI in another package and then using the OptionalAppLinks option in the IE8 package to point to the Adobe Reader dat file.  Just make sure that both packages work outside of the applinking.  Also, you can try to install Adobe to the native machine and see if the embedded pdfs work in the virtual IE package.
These are just the troubleshooting steps that I would take to narrow down what is causing the issue you are seeing.
