Problem When Take Dump - Image Size Increase

Dear developers
I Am Developing An E-Archive Program Using Oracle Developer 6i Based On Oracle 9i (Intermedia - Ordimage Column To Save Document Image ) .
And I Have A Problem With The Size Of The Dump File Whenever I Try To Take A Backup For The Database The File Size Is Very Huge.
The Origin Of That Is The Increase Of The Images Size After Have Been Saved On The Table ( If The Image Is About 12 kb On Hard Disk , Its Size Become 100 kb At The Database - I Used Database Studio To Know The Increase At The Table space - The Table Which Have the Images Have Its Owen Table space ).
Did Any One Know Why That Happen ? And How To Mange That Increase Of Size? How To Make The Dump File With The Minimum Size ?
Thanks
Bassem Halawa

Have you followed the performace suggestions in the interMedia documentation? I don't see how you could have obtained the increase you claim, but perhaps a database that is very poorly tuned for images? Or, more likely, the file size does not indicate actual disk space used, and instead indicates a extent. I will ask the performance folks if this increase is even possible.

  • Problems saving changes in image size

    I have some digital files that I need to resize for printing. Most need to be sized to print full-frame on 8.5 by 11 inch sheets of paper, while the others need to be full-frame on 5 by 7 paper.
    I'm using a trial version of PS Elements. I call up the image in Elements, then click on "Image," select "Resize" and then "Image Size."
    Then under "Document Size" I put in the width and height I want in inches, make sure the Resolution's at least 300 and click "OK." Then I click on "File," then "Save As," and click "Save." When the "JPEG Options" box comes up, I click on "OK." But later, when I call the file up again, the changes I thought I'd made aren't saved. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

    Did you check "Constrain proportions" and "Resample Image"?
    Since you want to arrive at 8.5x11" and 5x7" you will need to crop to these dimensions, since the aspect ratios are not the same.
    Try the crop tool. Enter height, width, and resolution on the tool's option bar.

  • I am still having problems understanding changes in image size

    Howdy
    I hope someone can help me. I have an old record album (one that has never come out on CD). I recently recorded the album over to a CD recorder. Okay great, I now have the CD. Years ago I gave a copy of the LP to my brother. I want to give him a copy of the CD with the album cover as artwork. Okay I have a commercial scanner at my place of work so I can scan the album cover which is roughly 12 inches by 12 inches. I scanned it at 200 dpi. So I end up with this large image. CD covers are around 4 3/4 inches. I played around with the image using another program and thought I'd changed it to this size but it never worked out right. Now I have been trying to play around with the image in Adobe and just can't quite understand this. To try to understand this better I actually scanned a cd cover at 200 dpi and then opened this image in adobe. The size of the image says its 4 3/4 by 4 3/4 but it doesn't look like it would printout that way. It looks like it would print out much larger. I saw somewhere in this forum that adobe is set to something like 72 ppi and I think I sort of understand that but I guess what I need help with is the process by which I convert an image of the album cover which is roughly 12x12 to be 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 without losing too much resolution quality. Can someone walk me through this? I guess I don't understand how to resize the larger image to 4 3/4 by 4 3/4 inches so that it actually prints out at that size. This is driving me crazy!! Thanks.

    Joe,
    Try not to get too bogged down different resolutions - not least because monitors display images at a different resolution to printers.
    The good news is that you have a scanned image that is larger than you require which means downsizing it is doing to be easier.
    Go to the 'Image' menu, select the 'Resize' option, select 'Image Size' from the sub-menu.
    A dialogue box should appear on screen. At the top is a section entitled 'Pixel Dimensions'. No need to worry about these, but for a 12" x 12" image at 200ppi, the measurments on my screen show an overall file size of 16.5 MB with the width and height each showing 2400 pixels.
    Focus on the section below it entitled 'Document Size'. Hopefully it displays the sizes you have mentioned: 12" wide, 12" high, 200 PPI resolution.
    Firstly, click in the box where the units of measurement are given and change them to 'cm' (CDs are 12 centimetres square unlike their predecessor LPs that were 12 inches square). The corresponding values in the sizes will change automatically to reflect your new choice of measurement. On my screen, where it did show 12 inches, it now shows 30.48 cm. Click on the figure alongside width and change this to 12. If the 'Constrain Proportions' option is ticked, the height will change automatically too. You'll notice that the resolution increases automatically from 200 to 508. Just click OK and your image size has been changed.

  • Transparent border appears when I use Image Size to shrink an image (bug)

    In CS2 (9.0.2) and CS3 (10.0.1), whenever I shrink an image using Image Size, my layers get a slightly transparent edge. As a game developer, I make tiling textures a lot, and this generally ruins their tiling-ness.
    Try this:
    - create a 32x32 image, make it white
    - add a layer, fill it with black
    - shrink it to 16x16 or 20x20, using any of the Bicubic resampling methods
    - notice that the edge pixels of the black layer are slightly transparent. This is most noticeable in the corners of the image.
    Is there a better place for me to report this bug? I haven't found one.

    Haha, you mean it's a bug in the spec rather than a bug in the implementation? (Unless there is actually a reason someone would want it to work that way.)
    Yeah Bilinear and Nearest Neighbor both avoid the problem, but of course the image doesn't look as good.
    I work around it by duplicating all my layers before shrinking. The problem is obvious (in-game) with only one layer, but still subtle enough that it's usually invisible after duplicating. Annoying, but it works.

  • Problems with the background image size in a photobook

    Hi there, I really need help here. When I make a photobook I want to display my images large, taking the whole page. To do that I put the image as a background and it's OK. My problem is that when I do this, iPhoto always crops it. I have to use the move tool to move the image up and down, left or right to chose a best position. I don't want to do this, I want my image to be shown perfectly from end to end. I have to resize the image in many ways, even used the book's native resolution but it still doesn't work. If I choose "fit photo to frame size" I end up with two stripes at the top and the bottom of the page.
    Please help me, what size should I resize my image to, so that iPhoto displays it as it is?
    Thank you

    Hi
    The fact you are using a Mac is why both myself and JCellini assumed you where using a pre IE7 version.
    But the code you are using to test in IE will cause a problem with any 'virtual machine' such as crossover, because it cannot reference anything outside its own assigned section of the drive, and referencing the png in the way you are would be for it an invalid reference, it also would not work in any browser when you uploaded the site.
    Change - background-image:url(file:///Macintosh  HD/Users/myname/Documents/websites/test/Test/images/test_back.png);
    To - background-image:url(images/test_back.png);
    But if the region is not editable I would suggest you temporarily make it so, externalize your css to a css file, insert a link to the external css file in your head content, then lock the region once again. This way you will always be able to edit your css without worrying about 'locked regions'.

  • Problems in placing .jpg images - size shrinks

    Hi,
    I have been working with InDesign for years and this is the first time I encouterred the following problem. Currently I am creating an online document with InDesign CS5.5.
    The problem is that when I place (ctrl + D) an image (.jpg), some of them seem to "shrink" from their original size and become totally pixelated.
    My original image is 192 x 380 px and it was placed as 46.08 x 91.2 px
    I don't understand what might be the problem. For some of my images it seems to do this and for some not. There are some images that I have previously placed succesfully and then these same images are now shrinked when I place them. Could this be a setting change? I have tried everything, but nothing seems to work.
    Very puzzled.
    Any suggentions?
    Miiagod

    A 192 x 380 pixel  image scaled at 100% that also measures 192 x 380 pixels on the ID page has to have an actual resolution of 72ppi:
    If the actual ppi is different (100 ppi below) and the scale is 100% then the ID object pixel width and height has to change:

  • Colour problems when printing - Photoshop image

    I have created a small header image in Photoshop. It consists of a background with a number of layers using blue and grey (the grey colour is RGB: 202, 202, 202). I placed the image in InDesign and then converted to press quality PDF for printing. In InDesign I have also created a number of shapes (rectangles with rounded corners) which I have made the same grey colour (202, 202, 202). On the screen everything looks the same grey, however, when I convert to a PDF and print, the grey in the image I placed from Photoshop looks a completely different grey colour to the rectangular shapes I created in InDesign with the same background colour. The grey colour I am using is all 202, 202, 202.
    I ahve checked colour synching in bridge and it is correct across the creative suite. I have checked output preview in Acrobat and they are the same. I have also checked profiles (assign profiles) in both PS and ID and they are the same.
    The printer is an HP Colour laserjet 3800DN and when i do a etst print, the colours all appear to be okay.
    Why when I print are there completely different shades of grey?

    Hi,
    Just did all that. I converted imager mode in Photoshop to CMYK and created a rectangle shape with the same grey colour underneath it and printed it directly from Photoshop. I then converted image to PNG and placed in InDesign, created a grey rectangle underneath the banner image and printed and finally I converted to press quality pdf and printed. All still have the same colour difference between the grey colours.
    The weird thing is the Photoshop grey looks weird - kind of washed out with some magenta in it.
    I am beginning to think it is printer problem.

  • Repair Tool Performance Problem when Zoom on Image

    Aperture Friends,
    I experience a huge performance hit when editing images with the Repair/Clone tool only when "zoomed" into an image. The curious part is that the repair while "zoomed in" function works fine for about 3 images, then from the 4th image on, the software grinds to almost a complete stop for several seconds after selection a source point and trying to use the repair. The mouse cursor even changes to a spinning rainbow DVD look during this time.
    These are 15-20MB Raw files from a Canon 5d and we are using the most recent version of AP on a nearly brand new iMac 27", of course with Snow L, and all patches applied. The library is less than 20GB and we are not using Reference files as of yet.
    I realize that these may be large files, but it is curios that it works with blazing speed to start with, then degrades.
    Is this a common problem, or an identified issue? Might you more experienced folks know a resoulution?

    hi!
    i'm experiencing a similar problem on my imac i5 with the difference it is slow all the time. even after a reboot it's quite impossible to use the clone/repair tool. my library is about 40GB with referenced files (all on external HD fw800). i work with a 5D Mk II (which is still not supported for tethered shooting, by the way!).
    (sorry if i nicked your thread )

  • Image size increased extremely after adding updates - common cleanup methods don't work

    I am going to re-work one of my WES7-Images, and besides that I intended to include the latest updates - over 300 in number (that's the penalty for the "never touch a running system" philosophy :-).
    Well then, I created a configuration set with all the updates and applied it to the target using DISM's "/apply-unattend" command. After the updates were installed I noticed that usage of my C: driver has grown by 4GB (from 5GB to 9GB) - that's
    a lot when taking in account that the configuration set was only ~800MB . I think that everybody here knows about the limitied resources in an Embedded Device...
    I tried with both "cleamngr" and "dism /cleanup-image", but none of them could reduce this maniac overhead. Is there another way to reduce the disk usage, or is my update method not correct?
    Thanks in before for any help.
    Best regards,
    Willi K.

    I gave it a try, same result - immediately after WES7 setup has completed, ~8.4GB used on C: drive. Neither cleanmgr.exe nor dism's cleanup-image option did take any effect (dism tells that no service pack backup files were found).

  • Problems when selecting an image from a scanned document... please help

    I scan student work and I want to make comments. I want to copy a portion of the student work from the scanned PDF. I use preview and select a portion of the PDF. When I paste the selection into pages the entire PDF is put into pages. If I paste into text edit, I only get the selection. This problem does not occur in Pages 09 but I can't afford it. Any suggestions?

    r,
    Try this workflow:
    Open the PDF in Preview and use the Selection Tool in Preview to highlight the portion that you want to excerpt.
    Edit > Copy.
    File > New from Clipboard.
    Save.
    Drag new file into Pages.
    Using this method you will not lose any resolution as you may when you do a screen capture.

  • Ghosting problem when animating an image

    I have written an animated GUI for a program a wrote a little while ago, just to make it a little bit more fancy, however I am having a few setbacks with the animation.
    I have a JFrame, which is divided into 3 main JPanels each having a custom animation. The code compiles and runs, but I get some strange results for the first 10 - 15 seconds of the program starting. I get what I can only describe as ghost animations popping up in all the wrong places, however after a few seconds they disappear one by one, leaving just the required animations all doing there thing quite happily.
    Has any one got any ideas what is going on and how I can resolve this problem please?? Below is some of my code so you can see how I make the images animated, if you require more I'll post the rest on request.
    Thanks in advance Kris Dowse
    public void run()
    while ( AnimateSCA )
    try
    iAnimateSCA = getToolkit().getImage( "C:/SetComputerAttributes/Images/SetComputerAttributes" + CurrentImage + ".gif" );
    mtAnimateSCA.waitForID(0);
    catch ( Exception e )
    if ( CurrentImage == 40 )
    CurrentImage = 1;
    else
    CurrentImage += 1;
    repaint();
    requestSleep();
    public void paint( Graphics g )
    g.drawImage ( iAnimateSCA, 0, 0, this);
    public void requestSleep()
    try
    tAnimateSCA.sleep( DelayTime );
    catch( Exception e )
    P.S. Can you assign dukes from a topic that got new replys onto this one?

    I have tried changing the method name from paint() to paintComponent() but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.
    The result I get is the main animation panel shows a copy of the main frame for around two seconds, then the first animation image is loaded over the top.
    Then in the top corner of the main animation panel the secondary animation loads. It stays there as well as were it should be for around ten seconds. During this period the main animation is very jerky.
    After a period of around 10 seconds all the anomalies disappear the program runs, as it should.
    Further assistance would be greatly received.
    I have put a similar post on the 'Java Programming' forum today as well, and it has 5 dukes assigned so if you would rather reply there, I will at least be able to reward your help,
    Thanks Kris

  • Problem when importing vmware images

    Hello,
    I've tried to import a few vmware images into oracle vm but so far all have failed. The error in the mainlogs point to severe but really don't say a thing...
    Can this be an issue with cpu families? ie coming from an AMD Opteron cpu(vmware 4 server) to an intel xeon cpu(oracle vm server)
    If this should be possible, what's the best way to start troubleshooting this kind of issues?
    J

    The import process in OVM cannot deal with ESX,ESXi or vSphere VMDK-flat's directly. You need to export the VM using VirtualCenter and export it in a Vmware player/workstation 2.x format. Then move the exported files to OVM and re-attempt your import.
    I ran into this exact problem a week ago. Its a shame OVM cant just import plain-old ESX-formatted images, maybe OVM 3.0 can deal with it?
