Problem with +ASM

Hello everybody
I have a Standby DB on SUSE 10 with +ASM configured.
When I query v$asm_disk, total_mb and free_mb of diskgroups appears on 0. Now I can get in asmcmd and see whole storage of database(datafiles, control files, etc)...
Does somebody know about this behavior???
Thanks

Here is output:
v$asm_disk returns me size....

  • Problem with ASM page in OEM

    I created an ASM instance manually. Then I created a database using ASM with DBCA. The installation was good, only I ignored a msgbox about user/password of ASM.
    When I enter to Oracle Enterprise Manager from browser, it seems to work well, but when I click to link ASM page(general section) appears a Actual status is DOWN. I cant see any info about ASM. I checked the alerts an appers the next message: "Failed to connect to the ASM instance. ORA-12541: TNS:no listener (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach)".
    If I use sqlplus to connect to ASM instance, it works very good. ALso, I created an tablespace on diskgroup.
    Any ideas in order to see the ASM info in the OEM?

  • 10g Grid (RAC) on Linux with ASM and OCR?

    I was trying to install 10g on Linux with ASM. The docs are not terribly clear on this, but I'd like to have the Oracle Cluster Registry (OCR) on one of my four ASM disks, rather than dedicate space to OCFS. I have 4 18.2 GB drives setup with ASM now. Is there a way to do this?
    I guess the other thing I could do is to cut the ASM disks into two partitions. One, say 200MB and the other the rest. I'd put OCFS for OCR on the 200MB partition on one of the disks. The large partition on each of the rest of the disks would be dedicated to ASM.
    What am I missing? I feel it must be something obvious. I'd rather have the OCR on the ASM, so that I don't have to deal with it...
    Thanks!
    Jeff

    Hi.
    There shouldn't be a problem with this provided you use a 32-bit OS on the 64 bit machine. RAC doesn't care about the chipset, so long as the same OS is used, but I don't thinkit will support one node on 32 bit and one on 64 bit, since they are actually separate distributions.
    Of course, I've never tried it so I can't be sure :)

  • Problem with gcc-like inline assembly in cc

    Hi,
    I am trying to compile the following code for a sparc machine using sun studio 12.
    #define MAGIC(n)  asm("sethi %0, %%g0" : :"g"(n));
    int main(int argc, char **argv)
            int x=1;
            MAGIC(x);
            return 0;
    }I am using the following command:
    cc -xO3 -xtarget=ultra2 -m32 -xarch=sparcvis -xregs=no%appl -w test.c -o test
    and I get the following error:
    cg error (as) : "__gnu_asm_inline_fake_test.c (template for __gnu_asm_inline_temp_func_001)", line 1 : statement syntax
    cc: cg failed for test.c
    Isn't Sun cc supposed to support gcc-like inline assembly? If so, what is the problem with the code above?
    Thanks in advance,
    Nick

    we have the same Problem with the inline assembler. We are using Sunstudio 12 on x86 and tried to get this code compiled (Sunstudio 12 should be gas compatible).
    any ideas ?

  • Problem with oracleasm

    Hi,
    I have a problem with oracleasm.
    I marking disk /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk VOL1 /dev/sdb1
    The marking disk "/dev/sdb1" was success.
    *#Marking disk "/dev/sdb1" as an ASM disk: [ OK ]*
    Next I create diskgroup DATA using VOL1 and leater create database using diskgroup DATA (VOL1).
    Now I install EMC powerpuff and create link /dev/mapper1.
    ! dev/mapper1 = /dev/sdb1
    Now I want to change disk /dev/sdb1 to /dev/mapper1 for VOL1 (in the VOL1 I have a production database)
    Thanks for help

    Hi,
    as far as I have seen, Oracle redesigned a lot of their homepage.
    This lead to a lot of problems with the download links (some asmlib libraries could not be downloaded from the homepage).
    I assume that the error you are encountering hits into the same issue. Just that you are "updating" and getting a wrong URL instead of using the browser.
    I would open a SR with support to get this resolved.

  • Create 10g Database with ASM on Windows Server 2003 x64

    I am running Windows 2003 Server Enterprise x64 on a Dell server and wish to install Oracle 10g 10.2 with ASM.
    First, I performed a software only install. Then, I created several raw partitions on each of two SATA2 disks, and created a disk group - DGROUP1 - using two partitions from each disk. So far so good.
    Next, I tried to use DBCA to create a general purpose database using ASM, and that is where the problem arose. I can use sqlplus to stop and start the ASM instance, but when I use DBCA to select ASM for storage I am asked for the SYS password for ASM. I enter it and get a message "Passwords cannot be verified because: Io exception: The network adapter could not establish the connection". If I ignore this I can go on to select my DGROUP1, but the installation ultimately fails due to "insufficient privileges".
    Can anyone please help?

    Hi Martin
    Thanks for the reply. I used ASMTOOLG to stamp the disks and then used DBCA and followed the description hereo create the disk group DGROUP1:
    http://www.databasejournal.com/features/oracle/article.php/3571371
    At one point, DBCA prompted me to run "localconfig add", which I did.
    If it is a missing password file that is the problem, is it possible to create one to put things right?

  • Oracle 10g RAC with ASM upgrade RHEL3 to RHEL4

    Has anyone acheived this or know of any documentation highlighting any pitfalls ?

    Hi.
    If you are using raw devices for ASM, I would not expect there to be a problem. I would have thought all you have to do is:
    - Stop Oracle from starting automatically on reboot.
    - Reboot the server and upgrade the OS.
    - Make sure all the prerequisites for the new OS are meet (check the isntall guide).
    - Startup Oracle.
    Note. It may be wise to do a "$ORACLE_HOME/bin/relink all" to make sure.
    If you are using ASMLib with ASM, then you will also need to upgrade your ASMLib software, as this is kernel version specific.
    Of course, I've never had to do this, so don't take my word for it :) Maybe an SR on Metalink is in order.
    Cheers

  • Problem with dataguard on 10g peace of !"·$%&/

    Hello everyone
    I have problems with the dataguard, when i switchover to physical standby the error ora-16775 the dmgrl log says:

  • Debugger Problems with both 2.4 and 3.0

    I've been developing a Cocoa app for Tiger using 2.4.x for the last year or so and have frequently been having problems with the debugger. Breakpoints are triggered correctly but the debugger will hang, for 10-20 seconds when stepping through the code, complaining of time-outs.
    Thankfully, this didn't happen during every debug run and I chalked it up to Xcode's debugger being slightly flakey. It was irritating, but I would simply restart the debugger and most times I could then debug far enough before the debugger started hanging to get the information I needed.
    In addition, variable display was frequently blatantly incorrect, often showing "out of scope" for variables which are guaranteed to be valid and in scope.
    I upgraded to Leopard last week and immediately installed Xcode 3.
    Debugger reliability has gone from bad to worse. Inline "in-Editor" debugging doesn't work at all. Never. It seems to be completely broken. The current position indicator never moves from the line with the triggered breakpoint.
    I have had more success with the traditional debugger set-up, but the reliability is much, much worse than with 2.4 under Tiger. It's so bad that I am faced with going back to 2.4 to do any serious debugging, which is something I really don't want to have to do...
    The behavior under 3.0 is as follows: The breakpoints trigger reliably, but single-stepping sometimes doesn't work at all. Instead of stepping into/over method calls, I just land in the assembly for the symbol:
    asm dyldstub_objcmsgSend
    Stepping in, over or out does nothing. The debugger never gets onto/into the line/method I want to step to. Debugging seems to be fine in certain modules/files, and refuses to work at all in others. All breakpoints are in application code (i.e. not in frameworks or dynamic libraries).
    The variables view is also frequently plagued by incorrect "out of scope" or "invalid" values.
    This is driving me absolutely nuts. A reliable debugger is the absolute minimum I need to get anything done and Xcode 3's debugger has proven to be hugely frustrating so far.
    Here's some more information about my development environment:
    1) I'm running Xcode 3 general release on a GM Leopard installation. I did a clean Leopard install. I am running on a 2GHz Core Duo MacBook Pro.
    2) My Xcode project was originally created by 2.4 and 3.0 was able to open it OK.
    3) I am building a Cocoa app which is dependent on 4 custom Objective C frameworks. The 4 framework projects are part of the application's Xcode project.
    4) The xcodeproj files are 2.4 format allowing me to develop/debug under Tiger with 2.4 if necessary. I am targeting the 10.4u SDK.
    5) The application is heavily multi-threaded
    Any thanks in getting the Xcode 3 debugger working would be vastly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Simon

    There goes that idea. Your configuration is almost identical to mine. I think we may be the only people using Objective-C++.
    If the behavior I am seeing is just 'par for the course' with GDB then I should be able to verify this by using GDB directly. Does anyone have any pointers on debugging a Cocoa app with GDB (without the Xcode front-end)?
    You can always display the Console and type GDB commands in by hand.
    If this is indeed a GDB issue (and therefore is endemic to Xcode) then I would be very surprised/disappointed. How could anybody do any serious development on Linux/OS X with this stuff?
    You indicated that you are familiar with Visual Studio. That must mean you are used to development on a PC. MacOS X is still (and now, officially) in the UNIX camp. Yes, GDB is a joke compared to Visual Studio or Codewarrior (RIP). But it isn't that bad for a free UNIX debugger. The Sun Forte debugger is a little better, but not a great deal. You can debug with it (GDB) but you'll have to get used to it. But on UNIX, developers just don't rely on debuggers as much as PC developers. It is a different culture. They also almost never use anything but C and never write multithreaded code. If you stick to single threaded C code, you'll find that Xcode and GDB work just fine. On a PC, I'm more apt to go right to the debugger. On UNIX, I'll see if I can fix it with printf/NSLog first. The debugger is more of a last resort.
    Plus, this is Xcode 3.0, note the ".0". I've only played with it for a few minutes now, but I can tell it still needs some work. I'm sure Apple knows that too. We have to get used to it too. It seems quite a bit different.
    If anyone from Apple's tools division/group is reading this thread then I would really appreciate some guidance on this...
    They aren't. You might try one of the developer mailing lists. I have gotten good information from the mailing lists and had people send me vicious e-mails because I didn't agree with them. Your mileage may vary.

    Hi Experts
    Plz I hope someone could help me, I am planning to Install Oracle 11g R2(11.2.0.3)
    on Oracle Linux 6 with ASM for a production environment.
    My doubt is: Is it a stable combination ? someone has experience working with this version ? is there some Oracle documents to support this implementation on Production ?
    I have been installing and working with 11g R2 on Oracle Linux 5 (5.7,5.8) with ASM for some time and I didn’t have problems, it’s very stable combination
    My situation is this: Our client insist on use Oracle Linux 6 on a new Oracle implementation, even when we told her Oracle Linux 5 its Very stable, so that’s why I am asking for some advice, because it’s a production environment 7x24.
    Thank you for your time and advice

  • A problem with threads

    I am trying to implement some kind of a server listening for requests. The listener part of the app, is a daemon thread that listens for connections and instantiates a handling daemon thread once it gets some. However, my problem is that i must be able to kill the listening thread at the user's will (say via a sto button). I have done this via the Sun's proposed way, by testing a boolean flag in the loop, which is set to false when i wish to kill the thread. The problem with this thing is the following...
    Once the thread starts excecuting, it will test the flag, find it true and enter the loop. At some point it will LOCK on the server socket waiting for connection. Unless some client actually connects, it will keep on listening indefinatelly whithought ever bothering to check for the flag again (no matter how many times you set the damn thing to false).
    My question is this: Is there any real, non-theoretical, applied way to stop thread in java safely?
    Thank you in advance,
    Lefty

                   // do nothing
         // interrupt thread
         public void deactivate(){
              active = false;
              // you gotta sleep for a time longer than the
              // accept() timeout to make sure that timeout is finished.
              try{
