Problem with extreme .11n

Hello,
I have 3 extremes in a home network. Two work great (Main and wds relay) the other relay will work fine, except every 2 weeks or so it will develop the yellow flashing light and not work. A quick unplug will reset it to green light working status. Any thoughts why this could happen or a way to solve it??

Since you changed your network configuration with a new router, I suggest that you first try a complete power recycle of all of your network components...
Modem/Router Power ReCycling
- Power-off the DSL/Cable modem, Router(s), & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
- Power-on the DSL/Cable modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
- Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
- Power-on the AXs; Wait at least 5 minutes.
- Power-on the computer(s)

    Does Drag'n'Drop work for you?
Just open the folder where you have your music stored.
    Connect your player.
Go to My Computer and pick Removeble Device ( thats your player )
    Open it up.
You can now drag the music from your music folder to your player's folder.
Wait till its done. Then go to the right hand lower corner. And click on Remove Hardware safely. When thats done. Remove your player.
    Hope this works.

  • Printer problems with extreme

Hi I am having problems printing out wirelessly with my airport extreme and my canon pixma ip 4000.
If I have a document in Word (for example) that needs printing I will send 1 copy to print and it will print fine. If I do one then decide I need another I cannot get it to print until I have restarted the base station, restarted my machine and restarted the modem.
If I know that I want more than one copy and change the amount of copies to print out it will print the first page fine then it will half print the second page and then I have to go through the whole rigmarole again!!
I am wanting to print off 10 pages of Thank you cards for my daughters wedding and it is literally driving me insane. For my sanity I am hoping someone has an answer to this problem.
    Cheers.

I have posted this in the correct place now. It should have been in the airport extreme 80211n forum. Cheers.

  • Connection problems with Extreme/Express bridge

    Hi,
I have an old Airport Extreme (a/b/g/n) and a new model Airport Express (a/b/g/n) both connected together via ethernet.  They are on opposite ends of my house...  The express is wired to my router, and I'm trying to use the Extreme as a range extender.
I had some problems setting it up (the option to extend range on the Extreme was only present if I factory reset it and got all the settings correct the first time through setup), but I've had everything working together well for a couple months now.  Anything connected to one is on the same subnet and uses the same DHCP server as the other.
My problem at this point is is that when you walk from one side of the house to the other (switching routers) the connection drops.  Multiple applications show this problem, but it's very noticable with FaceTime - if you walk across the house the call drops.  The routers are probably 120 feet from each other, so the signal from each does reach (but not well) the other router and I don't think it's a signal problem.  It just seems that every time a device picks a new access point its connections drop.  Is there any way to correct this?

Wanted to reply to myself, hoping it may help someone in the future.  Finally resolved my issue.  As discussed above, I set up a second 5ghz network and tied the Express to it.  The final trick was forcing the iPad to that same 5gHz network.  Now I can airplay from the iPad and my Bose system works with no inteference/cut outs.
I can't airplay from my iPhones when using the outside speakers, but I got what I wanted in the end.

  • Never ending problems with extreme connection to express

I have an Apple Extreme that is about 5 years old along with 3 newer (1 - 2 years old) and an Apple TV which I bought last year.  All units are N compatible.  I use one extreme for extending my network, one for wireless printing and one for audio.  I'm constantly dealing with one or more of the express units just dropping the connection.  Right now, the unit I use for audio won't even let me reconnect after resetting it.  I'm sure it is something I'm doing in the settings but cannot figure it out.  I'm also wanting to use each of the units as an extender as my 2 story home is large (115 year old Victorian) which is why I have so many units. I'm at 10.9.5 and scared to go to Yosemite because of the wifi connections issues I've read about.  Any help is appreciated as I'm pretty frustrated.

Sorry, I have 3 newer airport express units.

  • Major Problems with 802.11n Upgrade:-(

Since I installed the new 802.11n update, my upload speed is virtually unusable: it stays at or below 10-11k.
I am connecting a Mac Book C2D to a D-Link 655, and everything worked great until I applied the update.
I've reinstalled several times, to no avail. Any ideas?
How do I uninstall the 802.11n Update?

this is why they call the N specification a "draft."
it's beta. uncompleted. devices from different manufacturers cannot be guaranteed to work at all until everyone's using the final spec.
i would NOT RECOMMEND following the advice on macfixit.com to replace parts of your airport driver with older versions. instability will result in a system with mixed software versions when apple's software updates are installed.
at the very least... when 10.4.9 is released, USE THE COMBO UPDATER, not the delta. it will write over the version discrepancy you created, allowing you to "re-apply" your hack if you're still experiencing trouble.

  • Problems with Extreme/Express/Bose Wireless

Praying someone has an idea that will work.  I have an older Bose Lifestyle 48 system.  Also use their AR8 wireless transmitter/receiver to send audio to an amp and exterior speakers.  The system works, I can stream stored music from the Lifestyle flawlessly.  Goal is to airplay to the Bose.  I had an older Express and tried to use that with a simple setup.  It worked- I could airplay to the Bose system and listen inside.  But when I tried the outside speakers, nothing.  I determined it must be interference with the Bose wireless which operates on 2.4.
Decided to add an Extreme.  Connected to my Verizon router, set up a new dual band network, and turned off the Verizon radio.  Everything worked perfectly.  Then configured the Express to extend my network.  I tried again, and airplay from my iPhone still would not work.  But from my iPad, it worked!  My theory was that the iPad was streaming on the 5 ghz signal and eliminating the interference.  Worked for 2 days, then suddenly nothing.  It will work for 2-3 seconds and then out for 5 minutes.
Next tried to force the Express to only work on 5 ghz.  Thought this had to be the trick, assuming the iPad was sometimes picking up the 2.4 ghz signal while streaming.  This didn't work either.  Very frustrating and not making sense to me.  If the Express (which is connected to the Bose system) is extending only the 5 ghz signal and I'm airplaying from my iPad, I can't see how it's using anything other than that frequency.  And the Bose wireless is operating on 2.4, so I thought I'd be good.
Been working on this issue for a week and about ready to give up.  Don't know where to turn at this point.  I was going to pick up new audio cables for connection from the Express to the Bose just for the **** of it, but I know that won't help.  Any thoughts?
Btw, I tried to deconflict channels when I had just the Express up.  The Bose AR8 won't let you select a channel, but it can exclude one (I guess it roams through them constantly).  I excluded a channel and then set my Verizon radio to that channel.  Still didn't work.  Maybe I try that again with my new set up, but don't think that will work if the 5 ghz didn't.
    Help......

  • Intermittent re-connect problem with airport extreme 802.11n

    Hi,
I'm having a problem with my 802.11n airport extreme. When my MacBook goes to sleep, it does not reconnect the my WPA2 personal wireless network. This problem happens about 80% of the time.
I have updated the Airport Extreme firmware to 7.1. I have installed the recent AirPortExtremeUpdate2007002. I am running 10.4.9 and everything is updated according to software update.
Apr 18 22:13:24 computername /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Resources/airport: Error: WirelessAssociate2() = 88001007 for network spiderweb. An unexpected error occured.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Yes, i am having a problem similar to this. Although my macbook does not go to sleep overnight, i always wake up to see it either 1) not connected to the wireless lan anymore or 2) having a self-assigned IP that doesn't work for the internet.
The only solution to get things working again is to unplug both the modem and the router and then plug the modem back in and then plug the router back in. Very annoying.
But yes, that is the message i get from Console.

  • Problems with new airport extreme

i'm a network admin who has dealt with seemingly every network problem imaginable over the last 15 years, but this one has me stumped.  really hoping someone can help me see the forest for the trees on this one.
the problem started last week when i decided to upgrade to the latest airport extreme - replacing my MB763LL/A.  In my previous setup I also had an Airport Express on the network that I was using for the 18th stereo jack connected to a stero.  the airport express has been unplugged and while it'd be nice to have it working again, i'm not terribly concerned about it at this point.
the extreme has two devices plugged directly into it - an iMac and a sony blu-ray and they both work great.
the wireless is where the problem exists.  i thought originally this was the same old 2.4ghz/5.0ghz issue with 802.11n and iPhones, but that doesn't seem to be the case - or i am just really missing something in regards to it.
currently the airport extreme is setup as follows:
    - create wireless network
    - allow this network to be extrended is NOT checked
    - radio mode: 802.11n only (5ghz) - 802.11b/g
    - wireless security: WPA2 Personal
    - seperate 5Ghz network name is specified under wireless network options.
    - currently i have a guest network setup with no security (more to come on this later)
i have an iPad that connects to the 5Ghz wifi and works great and likewise an older dell laptop and a wireless security camera (both 802.11g) work great.
the problem is my wife's iphone (3gs) and mine (iphone4).   if i connect them to the unsecured guest network they work great.  unfortunately this is a bit of a pain as we use airplay and some other pieces regularly.  when i connect to the WPA2 network it will connect, work fine for a couple minutes and then i start receiving timeouts to both the internet as well as anything else on my network.  one interesting thing i've noticed is in the airport utility you can see them connect in the wireless client screen, but over the few minutes the rate will fall from 54 down to 1.
i've gone as far as completely restoring the phones to factory original state and reconfigured them manually - skipping the option to restore previous backups.
i've tried various options for the radio mode and this problem persists.  my understanding is that in the current mode the iphones won't see the 802.11n since it's a separate 5Ghz SSID and therefore connect via 802.11g.  I've tried WPA/WPA2 for the security and that doesn't seem to matter either.
is it possible this airport extreme is a dud?  any other suggetions?  please let me know if i ommited and details.
    any help is REALLY appreciate.

I seem to have the same problem you had. iPad, MacBook Air, and iTouch all connect to my airport extreme without an issue all the time. But my wife's iPhone 4s and now my Kindle Fire can't connect except once in a blue moon. Sometimes they see the network, sometimes they don't even if I am right beside the base station. I did the upgrade and things worked for about a day but now the same issue. Am configured like you but found disabling security doesn't guarantee reliable connections either. Very frustrated!!

  • Airport Extreme Connection problem with new MacBook

    Help-
For the past 2 years, I have had no problems with my Airport Extreme. My MacBook Pro (2006), My wife's iBook G4 and two AirPort Express units used as remote speaker connections have been rock solid. Both iPhone and one iPod touch work like a charm.
I just got my wife a new MacBook and since it came in and was connected, my Air Port Extreme has been nothing but a problem, requiring a hard reset every couple of days. As long as that MacBook is not connected, everything is fine.
Anyone have any ideas? Only the MacBook is using 802.11n. It is so frustrating, that my wife want to use her old iBook so if this can't get fixed, the MacBook is going back to Apple.

    Welcome to the discussion area!
From your description, it sounds like the wireless communications between the AirPort Extreme and your wife's MacBook are picking up some sort of wireless interference from another source such as a cordless phone or another nearby security system.
I suggest that you try different channels for your wireless to see if you can find a setting with less interference. To do this, you would:
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme and then click Manual Setup below
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Look for the Radio Channel or Channel setting
You may need to hold down the option key as you click on the selection box to display all available choices.
Start at the highest channel and work your way down, or start at the lowest and work your way up.
Click Update at the lower right of the window to save your current setting and the AirPort Extreme will restart in 20-25 seconds.
It will take some time to find the optimum channel for your network, so proceed slowly and take a few notes as you go.

  • Is there a software problem with Airport Extremes?

I recently bought a new 802.11ac next generation AE to replace my old generation AE mainly for the increased wifi speeds.  I have been having trouble though getting my proper wired speed using the router though.  I didn't have problems with the previous version in the past.  But now using the new one I get low speeds at times, but its not constant.  I have comcast and get 60 mbps speeds when hooked up straight to my PC. Using the AE, at times I get the same speeds, but usually now it drops all the way to like 12 mbps. I don't understand what it is, and thought about returning the AE but I have past my purchase time to return.  The other night I used speedtest.net and I got 12 mbps. So I unplugged the comcast modem and restarted everything and it went back up to 60 mbps.  But it seems to drop down to 12 constantly.  I tried the same process last night, and it did not return to 60 mbps, it stayed at 12.  So I still have my old AE, and hooked that up figuring I would not have the same issue.  Yet I totally did.  12 mbps again.  So is this some sort of software issue that is making this happen, I don't understand it.  I see people having trouble with WiFi speeds on here, but this is a wired connection.  I also thought I would test the wifi for the heck of it while I was getting 12 mbps wired through my AE.  So I used my phone connected to wifi and ran speedtest, and I got 23.  So how can my wifi speed get higher returns than my wired connection?  Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Eddie

I'm having a similar issue. I have TWC turbo cable in Manhattan. I get 20Mbps download speed when I connect a Mac directly to the modem via ethernet. When I use the current gen AirPort Extreme, my internet speed gradually decreases to unusable. Less than 1Mbps. Websites timeout before loading. My LAN still works, but internet crawls. Doesn't matter if a device is wired directly to Airport or wirelessly connected - internet crawls, if I'm lucky.
This is after weeks of things running perfectly with this airport. Over the past few days, I'm dying.
I spent time with TWC to make sure it wasn't on their end. Reset the modem. Ran signal tests. Rebooted everything. It's not an issue on their end. As soon as I plug directly into their arris modem, I'm golden. 20Mbps download again.
I hard reset my AirPort Extreme, and set it up as if it was brand new. But internet speeds still drop to slow to unusable when I'm going through AirPort Extreme.
Had some luck getting speeds up to usable by specifying DNS servers from TWC in airport, but this was false hope. Overnight, internet speeds were back down to less than 1Mbps.
Again, if I connect a mac directly to the modem, I'm getting 20Mbps speeds again, as I should.

  • Please help me resolve the many problems with my airport extreme

    Dear Community,
My Apple Airport Extreme has never worked properly out of the box and I do not understand why. I must be doing something wrong. It is replacing a series of Linksys products which integrated with several Linux and Windows machines, and they worked flawlessly.
    Problem (1):
Extreme crashes/reboots every now and then, especially when I try to send a lot of data from one machine to another. I assume that I am sending too much data then, and would like to know how I can slow down my data transmission so as to not hurt the Extreme.
    Problem (2):
Airport Extreme when restarting either on its own or through the software refuses to let previously connected clients reconnect. The problem is probably because of of Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Linux. This causes major networking issues as each individual machine must have its network layer restarted or be rebooted. So I would like to know what I can do to work around these problems in the operating systems.
    Problem (3):
Airport Utility after a spontaneous dropping of all connections by the Extreme is unable to find "any base stations within range" (it is connected to the base station by Ethernet). Base station and computer were both power cycled, problem remains. Perhaps my ethernet cable is too long and this has made the base station "out of range?"
    Problem (4):
Apple claimed that I would be able to use a USB 2.0 disk on the Extreme to do backups. When I plug in the USB disk as advertised, the transfer rate is 12% of its transfer rate when plugged into any other hardware. Please let me know which configuration options I need to set on the disk in order to obtain full data transfer rates that will allow me to back up several networked machines in a reasonable timeframe (i.e. less than 3 days).
    Problem (5):
Please describe to me how to connect to the router with a web browser. Every other router I have worked with allows me to connect with a web browser, and since the Apple software refuses to connect to the base station I am no longer able to configure it as I do not own a shorter ethernet cable that will bring the base station within range of the computer. Since the apple software does not take any obvious arguments that allow me to specify the IP address of the base station, my only conclusion is that I am supposed to use a web browser which will take an IP address to connect. However, when I do this, I get a "page load error." I am confused, because I was told this is an extreme unit, so I thought it had at least industry standard features, therefore I must be the one doing something wrong.
    Your assistance is much appreciated.

Problems 1 through 4 are the topic of many (often long) past discussions in this forum. Though I hate to say it, I have yet to see anything that comes close to a "solution" for the problems you describe. Sometimes, Problem #3 results from radio interference which might be alleviated by changing the default channel the base station transmits on.
Unlike every non-Apple router on the market, Apple's Airport Base Station must be configured using Apple's own "Airport Utility" software application. It is not possible to configure an Airport Base Station using a web browser.
Regrettably, in your case it sounds like you would be better off continuing to use your previous Linksys wireless router.
