Problem with folders disappearing

I hope someone can shed light on this very puzzling problem.
In summary, I copied three folders (about 25GB, 1000's of files) from an almost full partition to an almost empty partition. After the copy operation (which I later found out did not complete), a folder on my target disk, unrelated to the copy operation, is missing. Using the "WhatSize" program, it seems that an amount of space about what the missing folder would be is unaccounted for on the target disk.
My intent was to copy the three folders to an emptier spot and delete the originals to regain space on the almost full partition. Thank heavens I didn't do that. Now I'm not sure I have the confidence to delete anything.
Some details:
I created the missing folder a few minutes earlier, moving about six other folders into it, just to consolidate them and reduce directory clutter.
After the copy operation, when I discovered the folder was missing, I started looking at the results of the copy, and found that it had terminated prematurely, leaving about half of the last of the three folders uncopied. I manually checked contents using two parallel finder windows, and copied the uncopied files/folders.
The two partitions are on the same drive, the only two partitions there.
The screen went to sleep (or at least to screen saver) during the copy operation. The computer is set to never sleep, nor to turn off disks.
The "copy from" partition was actively network-shared at the time, though not accessed.
I can't locate the missing folder in trash, finder search, spotlight, terminal, anywhere. It seems to be truly missing, although its space still seems to be allocated. Disk repair does nothing.
Any thoughts?

Sometimes changes only show after a reboot, pull the battery and reboot.

Problems with emails disappearing

Since Sunday I have been having terrible problems with my email accounts though iMail. I have 4 different accounts coming though iMail and the problem seems to be with all of them. On Sunday I watched my entire inbox get wiped clean in front of my eyes. It seemd like the 60 emails I had in my account were all moved into Trash. And since there random emails have been disappearing. Is there a ghost in my computer?
Any ideas will be much appreciated.

Try closing the mail app completely in the recents tray, reboot the iPad - and then try mail again.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the mail icon. Tap the home button.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

I have had issues with my iphone deleting emails without my consent. It seems as if it doesn't want to hold onto emails for an extended amount of time. I use my iphone for all work related emails and personal. I have created folders to store important emails in related to work. I found when I need to retrieve those emails, they simply are not there. I was told to delete the email account from my iphone, then to add it back into phone. I have done this and things seem fine, then after a few days it no longer works. I have researched this topic and see that I am not the only one with this problem. From what I can find no one seems to have the answer. Please help?

Problem with images disappearing from project

I have inserted a number of images into my Robohelp 9 project topics using the Insert >> Image function. Typically the images were stored on my hard drive on my pc, but some I pulled from a shared network drive that were prepared by other people. They seemed to load into the project OK. I had them grouped in a about 5 different robohelp folders to keep them organized so after I would insert, complete my topic and save. I would move the images to their respective folder. This was fine for a while, I had no problems generating printed .pdf documentation, making changes to my topics, etc. But now the images keep disappearing from the Robohelp folder structure and the printed documentation. I can see the images when I open up and view the topics. I can also see them when I look out onto the drive on the computer. However, they do not show up in the Robohelp Project Manager and are not included in my printed output. I keep re-inserting them, but they continue to disappear.

Certainly it won't hurt anything to add the images to baggage files, but I'd be shocked to find that solves the problem.
If an image has been used in RoboHelp, it should be present in the project. End of story. The fact they seem to be disappearing seems to suggest that maybe something has gone awry with folder naming or image naming or the project in general.
So what version and flavor of RoboHelp are you using?
RoboHelp 10, RoboHelp 9, RoboHelp 8, etc.

Anyone had problems with apps disappearing when no one has actively deleted them?

My apps keep disappearing. I get the grey question mark through an app yet no one has deleted anything, the app has just gone. Not in trash, not in apps... Any ideas why?

Hard drives fail. They just do after X amount of time. Nothing new about that. Worrying? Yes if you don't have a backup of your files. That is why both Apple and Microsoft include progams/apps for backing up the system in with the operating systems.
How old is your iMac? Since you are running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 it is at least 2.5 years old if not older.
I'm not saying your drive is on its way out but it could be one cause of the problem you are experiencing.
Open Disk Utility and verify the drive and repair it if needed. But if you do need to do a repair you might want to think about having it replaced.

To let iTunes organize, or not to organize... and problems with folders...

Okay, I have a question that I can't seem to get a good answer to.
I am a manager of a couple of local bands that are always sending me MP3's. Most of the time, its jus part of a song, with no ID tags. I have a folder on my desktop that I save all the songs to, where I customize the filename of each song so I know when it was sent to me, what the song is called (today), and what band sent it.
Right now I have iTunes set up to organize my music.
Here's my problem. I want to be able to see the music in iTunes. So I tried dragging the folder over... okay, except now the music is showing up with blank artist and song info. BAD. And then I figured out that iTunes doesn't 'monitor' this folder, as I saved new music, and it didn't turn up in iTunes. So I dragged the folder over again, now things are showing up TWICE - thank you very much for making my life difficult. And since they aren't showing up all in one place, I can't go in an delete them all and start again.
What I REALLY want, and I'm not sure if this is possible or not, is to have a FOLDER in the iTunes library called mybands, and have all the songs there. Now, songs are constantly added (sent via email, saved to this folder). So I want iTunes to monitor this folder and show the recent additions. But I also want iTunes to delete songs from this folder when I delete in the Library, instead of doing that stupid 'show file' thing.
I'd like to be able to make all the changes to the ID3 tags there too.
Can I do this? If so, does the folder have to be in the iTunes library folder to make this happen? I'd LIKE to continue to use the iTunes organize my music feature... I've never turned it off so I don't know what will work and what wont.

If you turn off the auto-organize feature, then you can allow tracks to reside in whatever folder you want. Trouble is, iTunes doesn't do ANYTHING to display tracks by folder - only tags are used.
Overall this is a sensible approach - in my 15,500 song library I certainly don't care what the folder/file names are, that would be a horrible organizational scheme when there are so many useful parameters to use (genre, year, compilations, comments etc.)
I would recommend that you install a second media player that is "folder centric" like Winamp for use with the files sent to you by bands. You can setup a "watch folder" and listen to tracks in Winamp without disturbing iTunes in the least.
An alternative that requires a bit of work is to manually tag MP3s in the folder BEFORE dragging them into iTunes. A utility like ID3-TagIT can be used to add some special tags en masse to allow you to identify songs in the "mybands" folder, etc.

Mail 6.0 in Mountain Lion - Problem with Folders

Since loading mountain lion and using Mail 6.0 I can no longer click and drag emails into email folders on my iMac. The email drags but then 'shimmers' over the folder and won't drop into the folder. Does anyone have a solution?

Yes, when I let go of the message it just snaps back to where it was. I can perform this operation multiple times successively using the same email and folder, and the email always snaps back. I do not know if the drag/drop bug you mention is at work here, but it seems to be connected.
The normal behaviour you describe is not happening. The 'shimmer' I describe is that a border appears around the folder and flashes on and off very rapidly for maybe half a second and then disappears; let go, and the email snaps back to where it was.
Any suggestions?

Problems with folders and applications after SL upgrade

I purchased Snow Leopard and installed on my Macbook Pro everything ran smoothly and very impressed with the changes and extra storage on hard drive I checked thoroughly to make sure all was working and could not find a single problem I have Final Cut Studio 3, Photoshop CS3, Aperture, Iwork 09 and more and have had no problems at all using them. So....
Then feeling secure with Snow Leopard I installed on my MacPro (in exactly the same way which I had previously done on by Macbook Pro!) which I use for my work which has all of the above applications and all of my important documents, pictures, movies, music etc.
I have 4TB of hard drive split on a RAID set up 1 half is for storage of my footage and editing the 2nd half is everything else including applications.
Once the installation was complete and I started to hear the music and video for OSX it then started to go through to open up a new account as if I had just purchased a new computer and was setting it up for the first time or when you erase and install (my worst fear!)
I then in a panic searched for all of my valuable files or applications which I could not seem to find in any of the usual places where they should have been. Then through spotlight managed to find a file I recognised, here is what I have found and I will try to explain.
What used to be the 1st half of the RAID set up which contained all of the system settings, Library, Music and Applications and for general running the system appears to think this is now not used as the main hard drive but it appears to have all of my applications but I am unable to open any of them as if they are not even there.
The 2nd half which was used only for media storage and editing now has all of its existing files plus a system folder and a whole new user file with an application folder, document, system setting etc.
I have tried to just copy across all of the applications to the new working applications folder but they still don't open
I don't know how to resolve this problem and this is what I need an answer to:
Is there anyway to save these applications by dragging some kind of system preference or Library setting across to the NEW main Hard drive?
Do I need to delete all of the applications and reload them all? - VERY TIME CONSUMING!
Being Mac is there anything easy that would reverse whats happened.
Any help/ advise greatly appreciated. Still in a panic so if I don't make sense please ask me to clarify.

Your hard disk might have gone south (become nonfunctional). Is there a hard disk option in your BIOS?

Problem with folders when I click on some of these

Hi, I've got a problem when I click on some of my added folders on a system form (Service Contract).
I added five new folder. The three first are perfect, I don't have anything to say about it, but the last two one cannot be focused correctly.
By example, suppose five folders: fol1, fol2, fol3, fol4, fol5 added respectively from fol1 to fol5. Suppose I click on fol2. Then if I click on fol4 or fol5, theses one will show the right controls (the panelevel is changed appropriately), but the "image" of the folder still stay on fol2. This doesn't happen when I'm in add mode, but in all other modes.

By the way, anyone know how to change the total width occupied by a group of folder ?

The total width occupied by the group of folders is not changable, it's determined by the width of the caption. But however, the real visible 'folder' is determined by a rectangle. (Also see this image: http://zooi.ookvan.mine.nu/folders.JPG)
And concerning your "pressed" status of your fol4 and fol5, (if you're not have more folders then 9, as Lita mentioned) Isn't there a event that catches the click or item_pressed event? Because if you set the bubbles event and set the BubblesEvent, SBO see you are saying "Hey, I'm done", and does nothing more. So it does not change the status of the folder item...

PSE 6 - problem with photos disappearing from Slideshow

Hello,
I worked on a slide show recently and then exported it to a .wma file. I returned to the slide show project in Elements a couple of days later to add another slide. Out of the 27 slides only three were intact. In 25 slides, there were no longer any pictures, but the captions were intact. The other one that was intact was a slide with just a caption. Also the timestamp on the slide show project was 2/12/2009 at 10.37 but I saved changes on 2/14 and those were saved (like the slide with just the caption I mentioned above) I don't know what happened or how I can get back to where it was before.

I dont think that would normally occur, so something screwy was going on with your installation. Lightroom can import a PSE catalog, but it should never overwrite it. But Im not a Lightroom expert perhaps someone else more knowledgeable can help on that.

There are many potential problems that occur when you upgrade from PSE 6 to PSE 7. Of the ones that have been posted here, most people who have stuck it out get the problems fixed eventually, though I think many people give up in frustration before then.

Having problem with folders on exchange mail setup

I set up email using exchange on ipad and it works fine, I see the inbox, sent and trash folders. I set up another device and it is syncing my inbox with my server, but it is not showing me the sent or trash boxes. Can someone help

Yahoo changed configuration for imap a week or so ago. Perhaps you should check your parameters.
I use Mac OS X 10.4.11 Mail program. Works for me with yahoo imap protocol for input and smtp for output.

Problem with folders

i noticed that in the "info" of a video file you can set the video type to either movie, music video, or tv show.
but when i look under videos on my ipod it only shows music videos and movies, but no tv shows menu, and so i cant access my tv show files, but when i'm on itunes they show up on the list. but if i set their info to movie it shows up under the movie section.
basically the problem seems to be that there is no tv show folder showing on the ipod in the video section....
any help would be great

Where is this TV show from? If it wasn't the iTunes music store it won't appear under that menu on your iPod.

There's some 3rd party software that allows you to do this. Google for "Atomic Parsley".

After opening LR I can open one folder or a folder in the publishing service (Harddrive). When I want to open another folder the problem pops up. The behaviour between the folder and the publishing services is different:
- folder: by clicking on another folder nothing happens, LR still displays the previous selected folder.
- publishing service: by clicking on a publishing service folder, the pictures of this folder are shown, but the meta data, tags etc are still the same one of the first selected picture after opening Lightroom.
Does anymone know a solution for it? I've also tried to optimize the database, to restart Lightroom and the computer, but nothing changes.
I am using Mac OS X, LR 5.2, German

Build Problems with folders

Hi everyone, i make a project and in the end i generate a tdm file and put the file in the reports folder of the current project, when i execute the program in the programing windows works very well, but when a make a build and create the .exe, the program can´t find the path and don't save the .tdm file. in the folder
i don't know if i create the built incorrectly or i have a bad configuration when i create the path.

I have a couple questions:
1. When you run this code as source code and as an executable, what is displayed in the Path 3 indicator and the string indicator? Knowing the differences between these indicators when running in source code vs. exe form will be useful i knowing where your problem is.
2. Why convert the path to to a string and then back to a path just to add your reports folder? Why not just use the Build Path primitive? It is right next to the Strip Path primitive that you are using.
Let me know the results from number 1 and I can help some more!
