Problem with HP Officejet & iMac

I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8 with my HP Officejet 6310 all-in-one printer/fax/scanner.  I am having trouble with the scanner.  Neither the iMac nor the HP Printer are recognizing they are connected.  Printing options are working just fine.
I've tried:
to restart both devices
uninstall & reinstall all software

Have you tried to scan using Image Capture in the Applications folder (apologies if this app is not available, not sure when it became part of the standard OS install)? If you have it, it might work.
Another option is the paid for VueScan - www.hamrick.com - you can use it in demo mode to see if it works before purchase.

Before I spend my hard earned cash does anyone know if there has been any problems with new 27 iMacs?

    Hello richard from Folsom:
Are you inside or outside?  (  I could not resist, I lived in Sactown).
Anyway, advice is frequently worth what you pay for it, and mine is free.
If you want it, buy it.  The posts above are right on the mark (except waiting is probably overly-cautious).  The best advice (from anamusic) is to buy the extended warranty - well worth the money.

  • Wireless printing problem with hp officejet 100 mobile printer from win 7 dell laptop

My hp officejet 100 mobile printer was working fine with my dell XPS 15 in bluetooth wirelessly until my laptop crashed. Now I can not get it to print internet info except with hard wire connection. Page loads half way and then stops. Must shut down laptop and shut off printer or hard wire and shut off bluetooth. down loaded lastest drivers to no avail. printer will print from cell phone and win 8 computer via bluetooth but not win 7 laptop.

Sorry you are having problems with printing from the internet.  I have a few more questions to ask you before I can be of much assistance.
    What web-browser are you using?
Do you have any problems printing from Word or other non-internet documents?
What did you do to fix your computer (system restore, clean install of the OS, etc)?
Have you tried an alternate web-browser?
Make sure to install all of your Microsoft updates to see if that helps.  Otherwise, answer those questions for me please and I will be happy to help.

  • Network problem with one particular iMac in a home network

I want to report a problem involving one particular iMac (2008 Al 24").
On my home network (Apple Airport Extreme and Express extensions, about five Macs and couple of iDevices), all other Macs can see and connect to each other as well as printing to the networked Brother printer without problem.
However, on one particular iMac, I can see all other Macs, can set Brother printer as default with green dot next to it in Print Preference Pane, but I can not connect to other macs, nor print to the printer. Meanwhile, the iMac can get on the internet without any problem. I checked Share Preference Pane and all settings are same as other macs.
The iMac used to work flawlessly until recently, and I first noticed the problem because I could not print, getting a message the printer can not be found (and the dots turn yellow for a while then went back to normal green). Then, I found neither the iMac, nor other macs on the network can connect to each other, even though I can see all of them in Finder.
I opened Apple Remote Network on my own mac, and I can see and connect all other shared macs, but this iMac's status showed not online, even though the IP adress is valid. As a results, no other macs can connect to the iMac, either. It seems to be a problem with the intranet only, not internet.
One more thing, about a month ago, the iMac popped out a warning about network name, saying the old name was in use (conflict) in the network, so I have to change it in Share Pane. Not sure if this is related to the intranet problem.
Reboot and repaired permission several times, no change. Hate to reinstall everything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Another update:
For unknown reason, my iMac was suddenly back onto the home "intranet". It can be accessed by my MacBook Air through Finder Connect, and can also be seen by Apple Remote Desktop.
However, printing is still a problem while other macs have no problem printing to the same printer. Whenever I send a print task, either Word document, or other programs such as GraphicConverter image, the iMac tried to connect to the default printer, but failed, and wanted to try again in 30 seconds 9and continued to fail). Meanwhile, the green dot next to the printer selection turned to yellow in Preference Pane. But as soon as I cancel the print job, the printer status went back to normal green.
The printer is a Brother color laser HL-4070CDW, connected through wireless (g only), with it own DHCP but specific IP address. I printed out a setting for the printer and all looks normal, and all other macs can print to it without problem. Other macs can also get access to the printer profile, and check inks copy counts, etc, but the iMac cannot.
Only thing changed since last post was a new update for Apple Airport firmware (to 7.5.2 I think). So my problem is still half solved: can connect to other macs on the same network, but still not be able to print.

Any help is much appreciated thank you.

    Hello ,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would have to agree that the issue is within Microsoft Windows 7 regarding the printing issue with the Officejet L7780. Since the printer will print fine when using Ubuntu, it would appear there is an issue with the drivers and or software on Windows 7.
Have you tried using the Print and Scan Dr? This will look into the drivers, software, etc on the computer and attempt to resolve on its own. Let me know what the results are when you run it.
You could try the steps in this HP guide: Installing an Alternate Print Driver in Windows 7 for a USB Cable Connection. The L7780 does not display in the document but it will work with the Deskjet 9800 driver.
    I hope this helps,

  • Problem with HP Officejet 8620 (just bought it) not sure if Printer or wireless issue.

Alright so hopefully I have put this in the right forum.
I just bought an HP Officejet 8620, and set it up. It printed the test pages fine yet upon trying to print homework it would dissapear in the Print Queue while saying it was "printing". Thus nothing has come out of the printer except test pages so I am in a bit of a bind.
Now the computer brought up a trouble shoot issue stating "problem with wireless network".
To give some back ground on this issue our previous printer HP Officejet 6500A about a month ago starting printing abnormally slow, and eventually reached a crawl not doing anything.
So im not totally lost, yet as of now do not know what is going on.

    Hello Libertine74,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some connectivity issues when attempting to print wireless.
Please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
I have also located a document that deals with when the Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.
Please feel free to write me back if you have any other questions or concerns.
    Cheers,

  • Problems with HP Officejet Pro L7680

I bought this machine used and immediatly had "jibberish one or two line printing" in MS Windows 7.  Tried a new usb cable, hard reset, complete driver removal and reinstall, and setup reset on printer.  No change in behavior.  I then installed Ubuntu 13.10 operating system. Printing text..perfect.  Printing photos..perfect.  I have not tried the fax portion as I have no need for faxing.  So IMHO the problem is ....MS Windows 7.  Since this is an older Officejet Printer I don't believe Microsoft will be addressing the problem except by suggesting a new printer.  HP is ditto on that.

  • A problem with my 2007 iMac

I hope I'm posting this in the right forum. I'm not convinced this is a problem with the keyboard specifically, although it will sound like it at first.
My iMac is one of the first aluminum Intel models, back when they first introduced them and still shipped with Tiger. I've updated to 10.6.3 which apparently comes with a freezing problem that's affecting a bunch of other people, and maybe this is related to that.
Apparently the computer will quite often suddenly and randomly act as if I'm pressing the Return key continuously. For example: even as I type this post, the cursor will frequently jump down to the next line within the text box and just keep going until I actually do jab down on the Return key and get it to stop. It does this with other applications too, and even when no applications are open (it makes that "boop" sound during those times, like it would if I had actually pressed a key on the keyboard) and I'm not even touching the keyboard. At first this problem was isolated to my Account Login screen after I force a restart when the iMac freezes (the boop sound and the login window jittering like it does when you enter a wrong password).
I assume this has something to do with the 10.6.3 issues other people have been reporting. Has anyone else had this problem?

Wow,, nice reply to those trying to help"'
I'm sorry, but sadly there is no magic switch - just try & evaluate.
Heres the info on OnyX (Free maintenance App):-

Maybe if you have an Apple Genius Bar or an Apple Approved Service Agent within close proximity it may be worthwhile to follow up with them..
Normally the latest Updates get rid of known Issues, if you run earlier versions later/corresponding Updates may give other issues...
    PS..try a thrift shop for a basic USB k/b (new ones are $10.00) & returnable....L

  • Massive problem with new Wirless iMac keyboards

Does anyone else have a problem with the new differentiation between wired and wireless keyboard? I assumed they would be the same, but have just seen that the bluetooth keyboards do not have a number pad on them.
For the way I use a computer I prefer wireless keyboards, but I am a composer and use Sibelius nearly every day, which is the main software for the music publication industry. This program NEEDS the number pad to function, which completely rules out the new wireless keyboards. So, if I get a new iMac, I will buy the wired keyboard, throw it in the bin, and then use the older white bluetooth keyboard from my iMac G5. This is a really poorly thought out design decision that did not work when they made those horrible small keyboards for the original CRT iMac, and are mostly unusable for Pro users for a variety of reasons.

yea- the new wireless keyboard, being as perfect as it is, has one con, and thats not having the 10 key option. Ten key is a needed thing, but as stated before, the wireless keyboard was tested by folks who really wanted a smaller more compact like keyboard to move around more easier, and I guess apple took out the 10 key to give it more room, however, there is a need for the 10 key, however, I dont think apple saw that much of the interest or the need. I think it works in logic, but again, its the "small things" that get this new design in some trouble.

  • Wireless problems with 24 inch Imac

Since I have bought my 24 inch imac I suffer from several problems with the wireless system. First of all, very week connection (2bars, in comparison to 4 bars on my macbook). 2.) After waking up from sleep, it looses connection with the wireless network (I already tried some suggestions from Apples knowledge base without much success). 3. From time to time it loses connection at all (with a message. There is an error connecting to your wireless network). 4. Streaming music using my airport express is impossible. There are so many drop outs, it is impossible to listen to music anymore (it used to work perfect on my previous G4 and G5 imacs). I am using a ZyXEL P 660 wireless router as a base station. Thanks for any suggestions to this topic

I myself have no issues. The foll. worked for me:
Try making a new network location and prioritzing network ports (airport should be first):
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106653
    Prioritize your preferred networks:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304482
Understand WPA encryption terminology and synch your Mac with your router, e.g.
    WPA PSK (TKIP) = WPA
    WPA PSK (AES) = WPA2
Probe for other nearby wireless networks to indentify their broadcast channels and avoid said channels for your wireless router.
Enable wireless g only on your router if all computers on your network have wireless g adapter cards.
hope this helps - good luck

  • Problems with my old iMac 500MHz with 128MB of RAM

    Ok guys...
Lucky for me I have a brand new intel pro duo iMac.. but I still have the urge to fix (or at least try to fix) my old mac.
Its an iMac 500MHz with 128MB of RAM running OSX 10.2.8 and its giving me tons of problems...
But theres one problem thats bugging me the most! For whatever reason I can't click and drag files! You'd think it would be the mouse... but the thing is that it registers a hold down click cause I can make a highlight box on the desktop, highlight text, ect.
Is there some known "you can drag files" problem with OSX? It doesnt sound like that big of a deal.. but it ***** when I cant drag files in or out of the trash... put apps in the application folder... ect.
    Can anyone help me?
iMac 500MHz with 128MB of RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hello Vaseline,
Welcome to the discussions area. My first thought is that with your ram at 128 you are just about at minimum.. I would definately up the ram.
Secondly....look at this link and see the advice given by others. Go to the advice of dale which will lead to Dr Smokes link and follow his instructions

This may not be an exact solution but will help you get started....Good Luck with this problem and the new Mac.................Jim

    Hi
I have Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate 64 bit and I installed the basic drivers for the network of the Officejet 7410 AIO printer and I checked that all its functions worked properly.
Now, the functionality of the scanner and fax do not work more as in the "Devices and Printers" not appear more their relative icons. How come? How do I install them manually?
    Thanks

    Hi balubeto,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you are having scanning, and faxing problems with your HP Officejet 7410 on Windows 7 SP1.
    I would recommend the following:
Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, to diagnose the issue.
Uninstall the software. Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Re-install the software using the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.
Hope this helps, and have a great day!
