Problem with old packages

I am trying to recreate the web-based data mining tool as outlined here (http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/library/wa-wbdm/) way back in 2001.
I am generating quite a few errors compiling XMLHelper (35 in all), and I've done a bit of research to try to understand these errors and how I might address them.
It appears that most of the errors are derivative to the following initial errors:
1) package org.apache.xerces.dom does not exist, import org.apache.xerces.dom
2) package org.apache.xerces.parsers does not exist, import org.apache.xerces.parsers
3) package org.apache.xml.serialize does not exist, import org.apache.xml.serialize
4) package org.apache.xalan.xslt does not exist, import org.apache.xalan.xslt
5) package org.apache.xpath does not exist, import org.apache.xpath
6) package org.w3c.tidy does not exist, import org.w3c.tidy
It also appears that a number of these packages are considerably outdated, and either no longer exist in the form shown, or the functionality being sought from the package now resides in a different package.
Any insight on how I mgiht resolve these errors would be greatly appreciated. I am not wedded to this particular approach, however, so if there is a better/more up to date approach (with tutorial, of course, as I'm quite new at this) to accomplish the same objective (automatically extract information from a particular web source and prep it for some database friendly format), even better.
The data I am seeking is very public - restaurant inspection information posted online periodically by a city agency.
Thank You,
Ottac

cotton.m,
Thank you for clarifying the terminology.
Actually, I have previously downloaded the current xalan and xerces-j packages from sourceforge, extracted them, and even added the parent directory of the .jar files to my classpath before attempting the compile for XMLHelper.java, but to no avail. I have done the same with tidy (added the unzipped folder to classpath), which only appears to have a .css file (not sure if that is what I need). I still get the same errors indicating the packages cannot be found. I have read in some other forum posts that some of the packages may have been significantly reconfigured, particularly post java 1.5, and may not longer be accessible in the enumerated format.
I certainly would prefer a clean data (i.e. web service) format rather than attempting to scrape from the web, but unfortunately the relevant bureaucrats are neither helpful nor responsive: "it's on the website" is all I get, no matter how I try.
I may be able to convince someone to send me a text file, csv or something, but I can already tell it won't be easy, and will probably only turn out to be a one-time quick fix in any event. The particular agency just spent a considerable amount of money getting a system up and running that would present the data in a 'user-friendly' format to the public (it's decent, in any event), so I am not particularly concerned that the page format will change in the near or medium term.
In any event, back to the errors, then. I've downloaded the xalan and xerces tar.gz files, unzipped them, identified the parent director of the relevant jar files (such as xalan.jar, serializer.jar, etc), added the path to these directories to my classpath, and still get the same errors when I javac -verbose XMLHelper.java...
Thanks Again...

  • Error code 2318 (problem with installation package) HELP

Ok so I tried to download itunes earlier today, and it went fine until the very end, I got this message...
''The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2318''
So I went through and tried to repair the itunes to no avail. So I removed everything and ran the microsoft installer cleanup utility, then re-installed itunes and quicktime. Again everything went fine until the end, got the same ''2318'' error message. Itunes shows up on my desktop, as does quicktime. When I click itunes I get a pop up window telling me the application must close due to error, would I like to send an error report.
So I went back and uninstalled everything AGAIN, and now its downloading again. I'm getting kidn of peeved... can anyone help me?

ok I got it. Had to end up doing a small overhaul on the computer to remove the corrupted ''sample.mov'' file out of the quicktime folder, but its working now.

  • No Problem with Old Firmware

I am having no problems with old firmware for my 27" iMac Quad i5. Should I update anyway?

As posted in another thread, after having my first ever screen flickers only after installing the 4850 firmware patch:
"Called tech support. She had me do a PRAM reset and since then I loaded 25 programs, many of which were busy doing things like playing music, using iSight, playing video - no more flicker or black screens. I expressed my doubts that the PRAM reset would help, but it appears to have been effective for this.
By the way, with 25 programs loaded and several active, I was able to use only 4 GB of this 16 GB machine. All 8 threads were busy but overall CPU use was modest most of the time. I think I taxed the GPU though and no problems."

  • "conflicts/provides" problem with splitted package

I'm currently working on some brother printer packages and have the following situation:
I want to replace the not-working package brother-mfc260c in AUR, and have made two packages, brother-mfc260c-lpr (the LPR driver) and brother-mfc260c-cupswrapper (the LPR-to-CUPS wrapper), which together provide what the old package should do (or have done).
Here are the dependency specs from the new PKGBUILDs:
    brother-mfc260c-lpr:
    conflicts=('brother-mfc260c')
    brother-mfc260c-cupswrapper:
    depends=('brother-mfc260c-lpr')
conflicts=('brother-mfc260c') # This could also be omitted because its dependency already conflicts with brother-mfc260c
    provides=('brother-mfc260c=1.0.1')
But pacman doesn't like it. Whether I try to install both packages at the same time, or install brother-mfc260c-lpr first, and then brother-mfc260c-cupswrapper (like below), I get the same error:
    # pacman -U brother-mfc260c-cupswrapper-1.0.1_1-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz
    loading package data...
    checking dependencies...
error: replacing packages with -U is not supported yet
error: you can replace packages manually using -Rd and -U
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
    :: brother-mfc260c-cupswrapper: conflicts with brother-mfc260c-lpr
Should I file a bug report, or is this behavior intended? If the latter case applies, how can I solve such a conflict without loss of generality?
    Thanks in advance!

Profjim wrote:Can you confirm that you've already manually removed brother-mfc260c?
Sorry for not mentioning this earlier. I've never installed brother-mfc260c on my machine to begin with, because I don't even have such a printer. But I've successfully created such a package pair for the brother-mfc210c, and have read on the AUR page of the orphaned brother-mfc260c package the comment "The driver is not working... DELETE!!!", so I've made a package pair for this model in a similar style. And the brother-mfc210c package pair only works with the above mentioned provides/conflicts statements because its provides-statement has a typo which I've found after uploading it to AUR.
To make a long story short, because of these two facts (never installed the real brother-mfc260c, and the typo in the brother-mfc210c-* packages), I'm quite positive about understanding how the provides/conflicts mechanism works.
Profjim wrote:I think pacman knows to remove the existing package and install the new conflicting package, but only when the install is from a repo, not when one is using -U blahblah.pkg,tar.gz.
I couldn't understand why this should matter from where a package is installed. IMHO this is a totally different layer of abstraction. But I'll make a test repo tomorrow to clear this question.
Concerning your 3-package-suggestion, this wouldn't fit right away because both real packages have to conflict with the original one, because it is ~just~ a split of that package. And maybe there are still some people around using only the LPR driver and not the CUPS wrapper on top of it.
After testing your suggestion, I'll post a feature request and will link it to this thread. AFAICT interpreting a conflicts statement not only against a package with the exact name but also against packages which provide that one is simply a design decision, and not clearly right or wrong. Would it only conflict against a given package, all other packages which provide that one and have files in common would have to be listed in the conflicts array, too.
For the moment I've solved the problem by simply removing the provides-statement, because there is no package explicitly depending on brother-mfc260c, and the probability of it happening will be quite next to zero, but the basic problem still remains, and that's why I wanted to consult the community first before giving the devs extra work.

  • Setting up new Arch repo with old package backup?

I love Arch and want to give something back. I can't program and don't have any luck finding questions on the forum that I know how to answer So I thought maybe I could set up an Arch repo. I looked around for a HOWTO on doing this but couldn't find anything. How do all the repo's get their packages from the main Arch repo?
As of late I have been working with dav7 to set up an old package repo. More like a place to download old packages at http://schlunix.org/arch-linux/i686/ he supplied all the packages. There are a lot of them there but obviously it is only as complete as the packages he uses.
So... 1, how would I got about setting up a repo? And 2, is there any kind of nifty script I could use to instead of deleting obsolete packages, just move them to an "old" folder so people could search it if they needed an old package?
    Thanks!

Thats what I'm trying to do, make and keep a real backup mirror for the benefit of all Archers. My hosting account has 550GB space (grows 2GB/week) and 6TB monthly bandwidth (grows 40GB per week). I don't know if that will be enough... but I would imagine that would hold quite a few packages.
I was checking out rsync, and when I do "rsync archlinux.org::" it does say that only authorized mirrors are allowed to access it. So right now I'm looking for another mirror that will let me use rsync. But in the meantime who would I talk to to find out if it would be possible/helpful to the community/worthwhile to become an official mirror vs just syncing off a mirror that syncs off of archlinux.org?
Also, assuming I get this all working, how do I update the packages.txt file? Would I just use the one that I would get by rsync'ing off of whatever server I end up using? Trying to figure out what the easiest way to keep all the old packages would be. If I do what iphitus suggested and just not delete the old packages but leave them in the same directories as the current packages will that cause any problems (as far as people being able to do a "pacman -Syu" to my server)?

  • Problem with old namespace in WSDL file

I have a problem with my WSDL file.  My scenario is SOAP to IDOC.
Originally the ESB data types were configured under namespace urn:test1:xxx  for development purposes.  When it came time to implement and test, we copied the data types from the old name space to a new namespace http://company.com:interface.
After the new objects were created, all the old test objects were deleted, including the old namespace definition.  Now when I generate the WSDL file, the top part of the WSDL file looks correct, but toward the bottom, there are references to the old namespace.
Does anyone know why these reference are appearing, and is there any way to correct this without deleting all my objects and rebuilding everything?
Thanks in advance for any help.  Will award points for help.
    Terri

Found the problem....the XML namespace in the Message type still contained the old namespace.  When this was changed to the new namespace, second target namespace was no longer generated.

  • How to solve problem with Installer Package for itunes

Hi! I'm attempting to upadte itunes so I can get the latest software for my iphone. It's a 3GS. Every time when ready to instal it says I have a problem with the installer package  -  something is missing. What can I do to solve this?

    Repair your Apple software update.
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install
If you don't find ASU, go to Control Panel:
    START > CONTROL PANEL >
    Add n Remove Programs(XP)
    Programs n Features(Win7/Vista)
highlight ASU and click CHANGE then REPAIR,

i had problem with compiling my program which is java servlet, and it is complaining that it does exist javax servlet * package , how can i solve this problem?

I don't think servlets come with the standard packages. You have to find it somewhere else. I think you can try J2EE API. There in beta version for 1.3. Should be ok though. Hopefully it will fit right into 1.4.

  • Visa problem with old instrument

    Hallo!
I have a Problem with an old Jobin Yvon HR320 Monochromator which I try to access via VISA. Sadly I have no manual for the instrument. My task is, to convert an old VEE-Programm to Labview 7.0 using an agilent PCI GPIB-card. In VEE the monoc. is initialised with a string "248222 " which returns a B if not initialised yet. This works fine with LV. The next step is to send "O2000" as a string then, in VEE, Write Byte "0" and at last a blank. This should return a character "f". In LV I don´t know how to write the zero as byte. The VEE I/O busmonitor shows that there is a differenc if I write the zero as text or as byte. Maybe someone knows a solution for this problem?
    Thanks
    C.Kandler
P.S. I read a lot about the ni-spy, but I can´t find it in labview. Is there a posibility to download this tool?

    C.,
a LabVIEW string is more like a Pascal string, rather than a C string.
To write binary data you should create a string constant or control, right-click on it and choose "'\' Codes Display" or "Hex Display". Now you can enter a null Byte as '\00' or '00' (without the quotes, of course), depending on what type of display mode you have chosen. The first mode ist easier to combine with normal printabel text, whereas the latter is better for binary strings.
NI Spy was installed here in C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI Spy\NISpy.exe. It might be a component with higher level versions of LabVIEW, not with the base version.
But if you create probes you could as well debug your app without NISpy.

  • Problem with update packages MDT

Hi, when i build boot image with update packages the mdt it give me a error
    Error: 0x800f081e
The specified package is not applicable to this image.
    Exit code = -2146498530
The wim file is take from win 7 italian iso x64, the updates I push in mdt are the same that I install on test machine with italian iso.
I think the problem is in some script of mdt when "update deployment share"

The only update that I recall being required for WAIK 3 was the advanced format drive patch (Unless you have the WAIK 3.1 update in which case it is unneeded).
So can you post the output that is failing?  Specifically when you choose Update Deployment Share and it is building the boot wims can you select 'Save Output' and post that output here?
What version of MDT are you using?
