Problem with socket and Threads

Hi,
I have coded a package that sends an sms via a gateway.
Here is what is happening:
* I create a singleton of my SMSModule.
* I create an sms object.
* I put the object in a Queue.
* I start a new Thread in my sms module that reads sms from queue.
* I connect to sms gateway.
* I send the sms.
* I disconnect from socket! This is where things go wrong and I get the following error (see below).
I have a zip file with the code so if you have time to take a look at it I would appreciate it.

Off the top of my head, probably the garbage collector cleared your SMSModule coz all classes loaded through other classloaders will be unloaded when that classloader is unloaded.

Problem with JDialogs and Threads

I have this problem with creating a new JDialog from within a thread. I have a class which extends JDialog and within it I'm running a thread which calls up another JDialog. My problem is that the JDialog created by the Thread does not seem to function. Everything is unclickable except for the buttons in the titlebar. Is there something that I'm missing out on?

Problems with sockets and InputsStreams

This exception is produced in the line:
is = sc.openInputStream();
I m connecting to a server and this server sends data throw a socket... but the problem is that when i m reading from this socket and this socket doesn t have data in it...
how could i solve this problem...?

Problem with Socket and dynamic IP

The problem I have is the following: My domain has a dynamic IP, so after the IP changes the s.accept() does not work any more!

So I have to detect that the IP has changed and have to start again at Point 1

Something is vary wrong with your network software if your getting an error on that.
When you start your computer connected to the network, a DHCP (in your case) Server sends your NIC a dynamic IP address, we call this process "binding". When the client computer connects it also is given an IP address to bind to. You can't connect to anything, or in your case create a ServerSocket, if you dont even have an IP. So your Server has an IP address, and so does the client. You should not be getting any errors unless the client/server network is using two different protocols. You can't run an IPX/SPX network and a TCP/IP network together without a Bridge.
That does not seem to be your problem. I believe, then, that the problem is that your ThreadedEchoHandler is holding the CPU. Instead of having a client connect (s.accept()) outside of that thread. Have the thread be created by using the arugment of the ServerSocket instead and no the Socket object created.
new ThreadedEchoHandler(ServerSocket ss);
Then let it do it's thing. Also, you will need to call it's start() method to actually run the thread as a thread. Otherwise it runs as a simple class.

Problem with socket and Flash

I have a chat application where the client is written in Flash 9 and it connects an XMLSocket to my java server.
Those that know Flash 9 know that it first makes a policy file request and all you have to do is provide a small chunk of xml stating the desired port and domain.
To get a better understanding I adding some thread tracking to the server app. Now when I run the following:

Closing socketDoes this make sense to anyone? How is it that if I do a readLine before sending the policy request file that nothing happens but I send after a readLine the second socket shows up.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

The second case does appear to be a threading issue.....but what bothers me the most is why I get nothing from flash when I readLine first. This doesn't seem to be an issue with anyone else and I've seen many examples (though almost all were written in PHP) that are exactly the same. Read first...look for the policy request...then reply accordingly.
This is a small chat application running on Tomcat 5.5.
It worked well back when I ran it with Flash 8 but since I upgraded to Flash 9 (had to...no other way around) I now have to deal with this policy issue (apparently it pissed off quite a few developers).

Problem with StatelessConnectionPool and Threads on Windows XP

I am trying to use a StatelessConnectionPool in a multithreaded app under Windows using 10g. The problem is that when my application is exiting and I go to terminate the StatelessConnectionPool, I get an access violation inside Environment::terminateStatlessConnectionPool.
A short program that demonstrates the problem is at the end of this post. One thing I have noticed is that by calling terminateConnection inside the thread instead of releaseConnection the problem goes away. However, performance really degrades. Thanks in advance.

Problem With Booleans and Threads

Since using the .stop() and .resume() properties of a thread are dangerous, I resorted to using Booleans....
I can get it to stop just fine by setting "keepGoing" to false. That works...
But when I set the boolean to true... nothing happens. I think the while loop is broken when I set it to false and can't be fixed when the boolean is set back to true.
There's some deep process I'm not getting with while loops and/or threads.
Thanks for any help. The first segment of code is what's wrong. Post if it would help to see the rest.

Problem with socket and object writing

I programm this client/server app, the client has a point (graphic ) , the server has a point and when the mouse is moving it moves the point and the new position is send via the socket.
The probleme is that i don't receive the good thing.
When i display the coord of the point before sending it's good , but when receiving from the socket the coords are always the same ...
i don't understand .

          }The if in the processq method will come true when I is 11. so, once in the if, the for loop is executed. The j is checked till it is < 11 and then the value of j is being printed. So, as I was expecting J should print till atleast 10. However it is printing till 5 and quitting the loop, I dont know how or why, for which I was thinking if someone could show me why.

It always send 0x3f.My guess is 0x3f is a question mark, and since you're using PrintWriter which is geared for printing "strings" and the character 0x9d is not in the selected (default, since you didn't specify one) character encoding, it turns it into a question mark.
Solution: Don't use PrintWriter for sending binary data.

First of all, sorry about my poor English.
I have a problem with Swing and Threads, I hope you help me (because I'm in the firsts two weeks in my new job)
I have two classes:
Form1: Its a JPanel class with JProgressBar and JLabel inside.
FormularioApplet: (the main) Its a JPanel class with a form1 inside.
I have to download a file from a server and show the progress of the download in the JProgressBar. To make it I do this:
In Form1 I make a Thread that update the progress bar and gets the fole from the server.
In FormularioApplet (the main) I call to the method getDownloadedFile from Form1 to get the File.
THE PROBLEM:
The execution of FormularioApplet finishes before the Thread of Form1 (with download the file) download the file. Then, when I call in FormularioApplet the variable with the file an Exception: Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-1" java.lang.NullPointerException is generated.
First main begins his execution, then call to Form1 (a thread) then continues his execution and when the execution is finished ends the execution os Form1 and his thread.
How can I do for main class call the function and the Thread download his file after main class assign the file of return method?
How can I pass information froma class include an a main class. Form1 can't send to main (because main class made a Form1 f1 = new Form1()) any information from his end of the execution. I think if Form1 can say to main class that he finishes is job, then main class can gets the file.
I put in bold the important lines.
Note: My level of JAVA, you can see, is not elevated.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

I am creating listening sockets and threads for each client logged into the system. i want to know if there is a way to listen to other clients request from the main gui and then if another client tries to establish a connection with me for example, a thread is created for that client and then my chat gui opens automatically has soon has the other client sends his or hers first text message to me.
I am relatively new at socket programming has I am currently studying along this area. I know how to create threads and sockets but I am having trouble finding out a solution to my problem. Here is the code that I have done so far for the listening method from my main gui, and the thread class of what I have done so far.

Seems like all you need to do is create a new dialog for each socket that is established. Your current design looks like it will attempt to use the same textarea for all the sockets.
I would say in your thread class do the following:
MyConversationDialog dialog = new MyConversationDialog();
while(true)
               //read messege sent by user
               messege = in.readLine();
                //display messege in textfield
               out.println(messege);
               dialog.setVisible (true);
               dialog.addMessage (message);
            }

Problem with JFrame and busy/wait Cursor

Hi -- I'm trying to set a JFrame's cursor to be the busy cursor,
for the duration of some operation (usually just a few seconds).
I can get it to work in some situations, but not others.
Timing does seem to be an issue.
There are thousands of posts on the BugParade, but
in general Sun indicates this is not a bug. I just need
a work-around.
I've written a test program below to demonstrate the problem.
I have the problem on Solaris, running with both J2SE 1.3 and 1.4.
I have not tested on Windows yet.
When you run the following code, three JFrames will be opened,
each with the same 5 buttons. The first "F1" listens to its own
buttons, and works fine. The other two (F2 and F3) listen
to each other's buttons.
The "BUSY" button simply sets the cursor on its listener
to the busy cursor. The "DONE" button sets it to the
default cursor. These work fine.
The "SLEEP" button sets the cursor, sleeps for 3 seconds,
and sets it back. This does not work.
The "INVOKE LATER" button does the same thing,
except is uses invokeLater to sleep and set the
cursor back. This also does not work.
The "DELAY" button sleeps for 3 seconds (giving you
time to move the mouse into the other (listerner's)
window, and then it behaves just like the "SLEEP"
button. This works.
Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

I've had the same problems with cursors and repaints in a swing application, and I was thinking of if I could use invokeLater, but I never got that far with it.
I still believe you would need a thread for the time consuming task, and that invokeLater is something you only need to use in a thread different from the event thread.

Problem with DAQmx and Real Time PCI-7041/6040E.
I have a problem with the Real Time card PCI-7041/6040E, I think it is properly installed because my software run with the traditional NI-DAQ. When I try to use the new DAQmx to acquire one signal, Labview doesn't see any device for de DAQ card 6040E.
Information, I work on Windows XP and LabView v7.0.0 (NIDAQ RT v7.0.0, NI-Serial RT v2.5.2, NI-VISA v3.0.1 and NI-Watchdog v2.0.0).
Could Labview RT run with new DAQmx ?
What can I do to use DAQmx with PCI-7041/6040E?
