Problem with subquery

Hi all
I'm having problem with select statement .I want to return only one row of data having the ealiest serv_start_date,latest serv_end_date and smallest ref_no.This is my data:

so as u can see,the earlist start_date is '01-JUN-05' and contains 7 rows of it.Then i need to check the latest serv_end_date for each 7 rows and it's all the same,then i need to check the smallest serv_no of the 7 rows which is 10268949
So i need to return only this row

    I need to order my data by an index. But I am pulling the data from three different tables and I'm new to SQL and using someone else's query. His original query is:

    In this query 'start' and 'end' are dates. PVS is a placeholder for a list of strings (see modified query below). This returns two columns, one of Strings, the other of floats. But I also need a third column which has the index of the item. The index is located in a separate table called diag.series_sgnl_rec_asgn which has three fields series_id(String), sgnl_id(String), and disp_ord_nbr (number). The sgnl_id is the same as that returned by the first query. I need to pull out all the sgnl_ids from this table that are equal to some series_id.
    Here was my attempt to get the index (disp_ord_nbr) into the results:

  • Problem with update-query

    Hallo,
    i have a problem with following query. I wanna update the columns in the nutzung table. There are 7 columns but my query updates the geometry that in all columns is the same geometry or I can not update because the query gives more than 1 row in the subquery.

    Maybe I need the ug_f1840_geom table in the update query. Don't know how to change the query.

    1. Your update string looks like this:
    update defaultchatrooms set nodename = 'someChatTopic'('0')'
    Does that look right to you?
    2. This will update the column nodename in every row in the table defaultchatrooms. Aren't you missing a "where" condition?

  • Performance problem with MERGE statement

    Version : 11.1.0.7.0
    I have an insert statement like following which is taking less than 2 secs to complete and inserts around 4000 rows:
    INSERT INTO sch.tab1
              (c1,c2,c3)
    SELECT c1,c2,c3
       FROM sch1.tab1@dblink
      WHERE c1 IN (SELECT c1 FROM sch1.tab2@dblink);I wanted to change it to a MERGE statement just to avoid duplicate data. I changed it to following :
    MERGE INTO sch.tab1 t1
    USING (SELECT c1,c2,c3
       FROM sch1.tab1@dblink
      WHERE c1 IN (SELECT c1 FROM sch1.tab2@dblink) t2
    ON (t1.c1 = t2.c1)
    WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN
    INSERT (t1.c1,t1.c2,t1.c3)
    VALUES (t2.c1,t2.c2,t2.c3);The MERGE statement is taking more than 2 mins (and I stopped the execution after that). I removed the WHERE clause subquery inside the subquery of the USING section and it executed in 1 sec.
    If I execute the same select statement with the WHERE clause outside the MERGE statement, it takes just 1 sec to return the data.
    Is there any known issue with MERGE statement while implementing using above scenario?

    Has anyone come across a performance problem (compared to 8i) when using hierarchical queries where the START WITH list is generated by a subquery? The culprit seems to be an extra visit to the subquery block as part of the CONNECT BY WITH FILTERING operation.

    There is undocumented parameter in Oracle 9i "_old_connect_by_enabled"
    which controls the behavoiur of hierarchy queries in 9i and above:

    Just noticed you message. I have exact same performance problem. It's just killing ant other processes and runs forever.
    Could you please share you experience how to deal with "CONNECT BY" in 9i and also could you please tell about this option to re-write CONNECT BY as a join?

  • Override INSERT operation with subquery

    Hi, OTN.
    I have a form to update/insert a table.
    While INSERT one of the fields' value should be obtained by a subquery.
    SQL operation should look like this:
    INSERT INTO table1 (attribA, attribB, attribC)
    VALUES (valueA, valueB, ( SELECT max(valueC) + 1
    FROM table1
    WHERE table1.attribA = valueA
    It is necessary to complete insert in a single operation. Not possible to obtain a value with one query and insert it with another. Triggers also shouldn't be used.
    So i need to use a subquery. My JDev is 11.1.1.1.0.

    I am having wired problem with LEAD Analytical function. It works fine as a standalone query
    but when used in sub-query it is not behaving as expected (explained below). I unable to troubleshoot
    the issue. Please help me.

    An employee may be having multiple schedules on a day. It may be continuous or may be

    If an employee schedule is continuous then the minimum schedule start date & time is
    considered as the start date & time of the work.
    If an employee is having breaks in the schedule, then each schedule start date & time is
    considered as start date & time.

    Your LEAD function is order by fw.start_dt_tm, in your first sql, the where clause limited the records return to REC_STAT = A and EMPL_ID = 289039.
    In your 2nd query, there is no where clause, so to the LEAD function, the next record after seq 37 is seq 38 which has an end date of 2003-03-03 10:15 pm, not equal to the start time of record seq 37.

  • Multiple equility with subquery

    The following query gives error, I thought I can match multiple columns with subquery, how can I achive this problem?

    Now if you see the query inside IN there are 3 columns in SELECT list and only 2 in GROUP BY list. And your error clearly says +00979. 00000 - "not a GROUP BY expression"+
    main_group_id in the SELECT list is not used in the GROUP BY list

  • Problem with subqueries returning TIMESTAMP's

    I've got problems with some subqueries returning TIMESTAMP values.
    I've build a case for easy reproduction, with this query:
    SELECT iil.iil_lot_num ,
         (SELECT max ( lot_data_validade )
         FROM lot
         WHERE lot.lot_mat_cod = iil.iil_mat_cod AND
               lot.lot_num = iil.iil_lot_num ) as validade
    FROM iil
    WHERE ( iil.iil_inv_serie = 109 ) and
          ( iil. iil_inv_num = 16 ) and
          ( iil.iil_mat_cod = 111 )
    When I run it, it gives the error:
    General error;-9999 POS(1) System error: invalid_indexorder
    knldiag also gives:
    2009-07-28 15:03:18  9943 ERR 51080 SYSERROR -9999 invalid_indexorder
    I'm running on 7.6.06.03.
    Previous versions were giving another message:
    SQLCODE:  -9999      System error: Otherwise unknown errorcode
    If I change max ( lot_data_validade ) to  max ( year (lot_data_validade) ), it works. The problem is specifically with fetching that timestamp value from the subquery.

    My session 1 does a select for update in a query which has aggregate function. and updates a row.
    2 nd session waits till the first session has updated.
    But while selecting the data is selects the old data and not the one which Session1 has updated.

    I'll give the explanation a shot but I can't find anything explict in the documentation along these lines. By default, the 'FOR UPDATE' clause says lock all these rows AND wait for anybody who might already have them locked to release the lock. However, if the other session changed the data we can't just lock the old version of the row, we have to get the data from the new version of the row. The catch is that we must guarantee statement level read consistency as well. Namely, all the data used by the statement must appear correct from a single point in time. If we waited for the other transaction and it commited, we must move that point up to be read consistent. That means reexecuting any subqueries as of the new consistency point. To summarize, the following happens ...
    1. subquery gives num = 1
    2. main query want to lock that row but can't so it waits
    3. other session commits
    4. main query notices the data it wants to lock has changed so it moves up consistency point
    5. subquery is rerun for the new consistency point
    6. subquery now gives num = 2
    7. main query locks row

  • A problem with threads

    I am trying to implement some kind of a server listening for requests. The listener part of the app, is a daemon thread that listens for connections and instantiates a handling daemon thread once it gets some. However, my problem is that i must be able to kill the listening thread at the user's will (say via a sto button). I have done this via the Sun's proposed way, by testing a boolean flag in the loop, which is set to false when i wish to kill the thread. The problem with this thing is the following...
    Once the thread starts excecuting, it will test the flag, find it true and enter the loop. At some point it will LOCK on the server socket waiting for connection. Unless some client actually connects, it will keep on listening indefinatelly whithought ever bothering to check for the flag again (no matter how many times you set the damn thing to false).
    My question is this: Is there any real, non-theoretical, applied way to stop thread in java safely?

  • Problem with Threads and a static variable

    I have a problem with the code below. I am yet to make sure that I understand the problem. Correct me if I am wrong please.
    Code functionality:
    A timer calls SetState every second. It sets the state and sets boolean variable "changed" to true. Then notifies a main process thread to check if the state changed to send a message.
    The problem as far I understand is:
    Assume the timer Thread calls SetState twice before the main process Thread runs. As a result, "changed" is set to true twice. However, since the main process is blocked twice during the two calls to SetState, when it runs it would have the two SetState timer threads blocked on its synchronized body. It will pass the first one, send the message and set "changed" to false since it was true. Now, it will pass the second thread, but here is the problem, "changed" is already set to false. As a result, it won't send the message even though it is supposed to.
    Would you please let me know if my understanding is correct? If so, what would you propose to resolve the problem? Should I call wait some other or should I notify in a different way?

    Thanks DrClap for your reply. Everything you said is right. It is not easy to make them alternate since SetState() could be called from different places where the state could be anything else but a status message. Like a GREETING message for example. It is a handshaking message but not a status message.
    Again as you said, There is a reason I can't call sendMessage() inside setState().
    The only way I was able to do it is by having a counter of the number of notifies that have been called. Every time notify() is called a counter is incremented. Now instead of just checking if "changed" flag is true, I also check if notify counter is greater than zero. If both true, I send the message. If "changed" flag is false, I check again if the notify counter is greater than zero, I send the message. This way it works, but it is kind of a patch than a good design fix. I am yet to find a good solution.

  • Problem with threads running javaw

    Having a problem with multi thread programming using client server sockets. The program works find when starting the the application in a console using java muti.java , but when using javaw multi.java the program doesnt die and have to kill it in the task manager. The program doesnt display any of my gui error messages either when the server disconnect the client. all works find in a console. any advice on this as I havent been able to understand why this is happening? any comment would be appreciated.

    When using javaw, make sure you redirect the standard

    I would like to display a loading screen after it take snapshot ( sometimes i
