Problem with video file SEEKING (Seek.java)

Hi,
I have a problem with seeking the video file, actually mpeg2 file. I tried the Seek.java example from sun web site (http://www.cs.odu.edu/~cs778/spring04/lectures/jmfsolutions/examplesindex.html#seek) but it doesn't work. When I try to call getControl it returns null.
fpc = (FramePositioningControl)p.getControl("javax.media.control.FramePositioningControl");
if (fpc == null) {
System.err.println("The player does not support FramePositioningControl.");
System.err.println("There's no reason to go on for the purpose of this demo.");
return false;
Does anybody have some idea how to make a player that will support FramePositioningControl ???
Or do you know some java dvd player that can be used in java application for free?
thx a lot

try {
     Manager.setHint(Manager.PLUGIN_PLAYER, new Boolean(true));
               player = Manager.createRealizedPlayer(new MediaLocator("file:"
               + fd.getDirectory() + fd.getFile()));
          } catch (NoPlayerException err) {
               err.printStackTrace();
          } catch (CannotRealizeException err) {
               err.printStackTrace();
          } catch (IOException err) {
               err.printStackTrace();
if (player == null) {
System.out.println("Trouble creating a player.");
return;
FramePositioningControl fpc = (FramePositioningControl)player.getControl
("javax.media.control.FramePositioningControl");
if (fpc == null) {
     System.err.println("The player does not support FramePositioningControl.");
     System.err.println("There's no reason to go on for the purpose of this demo.");
     return;

  • Bridge CS 6 preview problem with video files

    Hey Community,
    I have a problem with the preview in Adobe Bridge Cs 6.
    With the pictures and photos everything is fine, but every kind of video format is not displayed as a preview in the preview window, so that I have to open each video manually by doubleclicking on it, so that it is opens in Quicktime.
    Is there an opportunity to get that fixed? I just see the Quicktime or VLC-Icon, nothing more.
    I tried to purge to cache, to set everything to defaults but nothing worked.
    Thank you in advance und best regards.
    Alex

    Doubleclicking on the files in Bridge causes that quicktime or VLC or itunes (depending on the file format) will open that, but bridge does not handle anything?!
    Bridge CC and Bridge CS6 both handle my .mov files from EOS 1Dx and iPhone without any problems. The show in the preview window and can be played with sound in this same window. (MacPro with 10.8.4)
    Purging cache is what it is, it dumps the previous cache of the preview and forces Bridge to create a new one, nothing else is set to default.
    First try a reset of preferences and hold down option key while restarting Bridge and choose reset prefs. then try again.

  • Problem with video files

    Hello,
    I'm looking for a PC software wich suport the N8 video files.
    When i try to import the movies made with my N8 in Adobe premiere pro, there not opening.
    The only way i found out was to convert them in quicktime the reconvert them in APP. But it's taking a very long time and a bit of the quality.
    Do someone know an editing software for PC which can DIRECTLY open movies filles from a Nokia ?
    Thx.

    Hi Kionoka1,
    The N8 saves video files as .MP4, so when you import, you will either get an "unsupported format" message or the audio plays with no visual.
    Have you tried to rename the file extension  from MP4 to MPG or M4V. This should invoke an alternate import module that  will correctly handle the file.
    Hope this helps,
    haZey

  • Problems with Video files in LR4

    Hi,
    I installed LR4 over LR3.  When I try to play a video file in LR4 nothing happens.  I cannot import video files or synchronize them.
    I also noticed the LR4 hangs for about a minute when I lauch it...
    What's wrong?  I have Windows 7.

    I had a similar problem, but it was with .mov, .avi, and .3gp movie files.  When I tried to import these video file types, LR4 would simply hang.   Here is what I did to fix the problem.
    - Close LR4
    - Find a file of the same type using your file explorer that will not import.  Right click on it and select Quicktime as the default player.  (remember, LR use QT to render all its video)
    - Open the video file and confirm that it plays under Quicktime
    - Reboot your machine.  (this is really only to kill some LR processes that may still be running)
    Once your machine restarts, load LR4 and import the video.  It should work at this point.

  • Problem with video file for iMovie 4

    I'm not completely sure if this is the right forum for my question, but...
    I sent out some old family videos to be converted into movie files (.mov files). The problem is that they came back with each file at approximately an hour long. I want to be able to edit them (add chapters, add background music, etc.) and make copies for each family member on my computer. I tried importing the video files into iMovie, but it said that they were too large and that I could import them after buying QuickTime Pro and chopping them up into smaller portions through that.
    I had two questions. First, would I be able to do this with QuickTime Pro and then use iMovie or iDVD to create the DVDs without any (or too many) problems? I'd rather not spend the money to buy QuickTime Pro and then find out it was a waste because it didn't work. And second, is there some other program (preferably free) that I could use to cut these videos up into smaller portions?
    Please help! Thanks!

    Yes, QT Pro can do it for you.

    You can also buy iLife '05 or '06 as none of these version has the length limitation.

  • Premiere cc problem with video file

    when I import the video files in the project not are recognized in succession, but in random order, and when I move them in the timeline audio and video are not linked.
    help me please

    first, to make sure it brings in the audio and video make sure "source patching" is on.
    then two ways to bring in footage. either by filename or by the order in which you select them from the bin. if you want them to be brought in by filename, make sure the column is sorted by name, select all and from the bin menu choose "automate to sequence". choose sort order.  if you want to choose clips in random order in bin, use ctrl to add clips to your selection, one by one in the order you wish. then from the menu choose selection order, or click the button at the bottom of the bin project bin window.

  • Problem with Video File Names

    When I did the last big update for my Storm 9530, all of my video files did the following.  I ripped some DVD's and editted the names to what I wanted them because before they said "DVDRIP..." when I was done.  When I got my Storm, I put the files on it and they worked fine.  However, after the upgrade, all the file names in my list are back to what the file names were before I editted them right after they were ripped.  But, when I select the properties for a file, it has the correct file name and when I try to rename them it has the correct file name highlighted.  I've tried deleting them all and readding them but it always goes back to being wrong.  Is there a way to fix this so that I can put my files back on and know what each of them is without having to look at the properties of each?

    It sounds like you you need to change a setting in the view somehow. I think what is being displayed is the media tag information. I hope this helps point you in the right direction.

  • Problem with video file playback

    Hi,
    I just converted a music DVD file to ipod using itunes. It plays fine on my 5th gen ipod, but I'm unable to scroll through the file to the point I want to hear - it lets me scroll but then automatically reverts back to the beginning of the DVD (ie. 0:00). Is this normal and unavoidable (I really don't want to have to listen to an hour's worth of video before I get to part I want to hear) or is there something I can do about it? Thanks very much.

    I have the same problem and I know that it is due to my PCI Audio driver not being compatible with WIndows 8.1.
    iTunes isn't the only program that can't direct sound to the built-in speakers anymore. The obvious solution would be to update the drivers, but unfortunately Dell does not provide an updated driver for my model, so I am stuck with that.
    However, saying that, only my laptop speakers are affected by this. I can use sound fine on applications where I can choose the output device and direct sound to the head phones, but for some reason iTunes does not let you choose the audio device manually.
    To listen to music I imported the iTunes Library in Windows Media Player and changed the audio output using the following instructions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/c00d11ba
    However, I would also like to rent movie's from iTunes,
    Would be great if iTunes would let you choose the output device, too, like most other applications using sound  from Skype to Windows Media Player,...

  • Problem with Video File on my Imac

    since a week when i open a .avi file my computer become really slow and it take like 5 min to open the video in real player or quicktime but for the rest like .mp4 or any other type every thing work just fine. so what the problem and how can i solve it?
    Thanks!

    I have had this happen when I did not have the proper audio codec to play the avi. The video was fine, but apparently it threw a mini fit trying to figure out how to play the audio-some kind of surround sound stuff.
    I normally recommend just downloading VLC and don't worry about using quicktime for playback.

  • Problem with applet file loading

    I have a problem with loading files into a java applet. import java.applet.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import java.net.*;
    public class main extends Applet {
         private static ArrayList<String> SGM;
         public void init() {
              SGM = new ArrayList<String>();
              String gameDir = getParameter("game_dir");
              try {
                   File fHandle = new File(gameDir+"game.sgm");
                   Scanner fScanner = new Scanner(fHandle);
                   while(fScanner.hasNextLine()) {
                        SGM.add(fScanner.nextLine());
                   //System.out.println(SGM.get(0));
              } catch(Exception e) {
                   System.out.println("Applet threw error: "+e);
    ...The problem is with File fHandle = new File(gameDir+"game.sgm"); I tried putting File(gameDir+"/game.sgm"); and appending / to the folder in the <PARAM> tag, but it still changes it to \, which means I can only run it locally, and in Windows. Why is it doing this, and how can I fix it?

    This file you were hoping to load: it's on the server, right? Not on the computer where the applet is running in a browser?
    (At least that's a common mistake made by people when they write their first applet.)
    If that's the case then you can't use a File object to access a file on a different computer. To access a file on the server, first you will have to put the file in a place on the server where it can be downloaded. Then in your applet you need to get a URL for the file. (The getDocumentBase() method can be used to prevent you from having to hard-code the full URL for the file.) Next, "this.getClass().getResourceAsStream(URL)" gets you an InputStream from which you can read the data from the file.

    I think the real problem is that you don't check the return value from read (it's probably less than data.length indicating an incomplete read). Isn't there a readFully somewhere?

  • XDCAM-EX problem with .MOV files on Premiere CS6

    Hello!
    I've been working in a video project on Premiere CS5 with video files .MOV from a JVC camera and from a Sony XDCAM EX. I've installed the Premiere CS6 TRIAL. The project has been converted: I get to watch and edit the .MOV files from the JVC Cam, BUT I can't load the media .MOV from XDCAM EX, It says the codec is missing or unavailable... I got the same problem with some .DV files working before on CS5...
    I looked for the codec info and I found this one: MediaCoreQTCodecRulesCS6.xml
    It shouldn't be working?
    Why if all the files were working with Premiere CS5, They are not with Premiere CS6, being this one the latest version of the software? Is it due to be a trial version of the software?
    I would really appreciate your help on this issue!
    Have a good day!
    Zoila

    Officially you need FCP installed to work with XDCAM EX Movs. Are you on a mac or PC?
    However, this is an update for quicktime on macs that gives you the XDCAM EX codec:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1396
    Not sure if there's an equivalent for PCs.

  • Problem with .jnlp files

    I have an iMac running 10.6.8. I'm having a problem with .jnlp files. I've downloaded two, cgoban.jnlp and gopanda.jnlp. When I double-click the file, nothing happens. If I Control-click and select Open With Java Web Start, same. Nothing happens. Software Update says my Java is up to date. Any ideas?

    A few other similar threads were solved by this — I'd like to give credit where credit's due but I can't find the original posting.

  • Problem importing video file to PSE Organizer

    I use both PE7 and PSE7 and have been steadily importing my video files using PSE7's "organizer" but have encountered a problem with one particular file.
    I use the PSE7 "Get photos and videos" menu and when I select this file the computer seems to "hang" and then close PSE7 without any error message.  Other video files (.avi) created in exactly the same way can be imported without this problem (although oddly some do seem to take rather a long time for PSE7 to "process").  The offending file is quite large (1.1GB) but I have not had this problem with other files even larger than this.
    Interestingly, I can import the file into my catalog using PE7 (usimg the "Get media" menu) but if I do that it subsequently creates a problem in PSE7.  When I try to open up the Organizer in PSE7 after importing the offending video file using PE7, the PSE7 Organizer appears normally but with a message "creating thumbnails" at the bottom of the screen.  This lasts for 10 seconds or so and then the programme shuts down without any error message.
    I think I must have a "poison file".  In this situation what should I do?  Like many other "clips" already imported, the offending file was created from processing material on a Hi-8 (analogue) tape using the "pass-through" conversion technique.  I could I suppose therefore simply repeat the process as I still have the original tape but wondered if there is a better (easier) solution.
    This is proving a really useful forum so thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Some thoughts
    1 -- You say this is an avi file created from processing material on a Hi-8 analog tape using pass-through, so I think that it is probably a DV-AVI file. What software did you use to capture the DV-AVI file to your computer ? (perhaps Premiere Elements 7 or Windows Movie Maker)?
    2 --  I suspect that your realistic options will be determined by whether Premiere Elements 7 can process this file or not. So that is what I would try first.
    Can you place that clip on the PRE 7 Timeline and then Export it to a different file (this would be a new DV-AVI file.)?  OR - What is at the very front of the problematic clip?  If you don't need the content at the front, I would try trimming off the contents at the front of the clip.(because that is what would be used to create the thumbnail), then Export to a new DV-AVI file.
    However if the problem turns out to be with the control information stored within that specific avi file and Premiere Elements can not process this file, then repeating the conversion process for that specific file may be the solution.
    3 -- FYI - You will probably need to delete that problematic file from your PSE catalog. Not sure if you will be able to do that from Photoshop Elements or if it shuts down too soon.
    4 -- FYI - Despite the fact that your problem happens in Photoshop Elements, your potential solutions may come from Premiere Elements. Therefore, I might be suggesting moving this discussion to another forum. For now, I suggest that you respond to this thread.
