Problems compiling executable under RHL 7.1 and 8.1.7

I had some errors compling execuables during install on 8.1.7 on
RHL 7.1. Proceeded will install anyway. Configuration
Assistant failed during install as well. Now when I try to run
sqlplus, or any other Oracle app, I get:
sqlplus:error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.8.0:
cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory
Any ideas?

Can't fit all of it, so here's some. It repeats this 4 times and
attempts the other executables.

We tried to compile KVM under windows platforms and failed.
Compilation failed at the java files under j2me_cldc\tools\jcc
Therefore we do not have: nativeFunctionTableWin.c and nativeRelocationWin.c
Can you please help us to compile the java files or send us the *.c files.

I had the same trouble and this is what I did to get the KVM to compile.
1. First of all to compile under windows you need a the Visual Basic Compiler and Linker to compile the C files.
Also, in order for the makefiles to work properly, you need to install cygwin with basic command line functions (make,find,pwd...). And you need to place the cygwin commands ahead of the windows commands in your PATH eg set PATH = C:\cygwin;C:\windows.
2. COPY the classes dir in j2me_cldc\bin\common\api
TO the j2me_cldc\api dir
3. Then modify the makefiles - where it has $(JAVAC) imediately after it type -target 1.1
so for example in j2me_cldc\api\makefile the line
$(JAVAC) -g$(DEBUGFLAG) -d tmpclasses -bootclasspath classes \
becomes
$(JAVAC) -g$(DEBUGFLAG) -target 1.1 -d tmpclasses -bootclasspath classes \
NOTE: nowhere did I find anything to suggest that the KVM must be compiled under Java 1.1 but this is what worked for me.

Ugh Still having problems at boot under 10.5.5 and Mac pro

Not sure what happened with the subject of my last post, but here it is again
So I had posted before my error that seemed to be a memory error on my Mac Pro (started with 4MEM), and I have yet to be able to reproduce it in Apple Hardware test. I have a Mac Pro Quad 3.66 with 8 GB of Ram from OWC in 4 2GB chips. I ran the test with all 4 in and also every possible combination in the machine.
After I boot the machine after running AHT, it runs fine. When I shut down and try and boot on its own, the screen freezes, draws funny, etc. Sometimes the screen looks snowy and flashes and I have to force restart. It also gets VERY sluggish. I don't know how else to describe that. Sometimes the icons in the dock don't draw right. I assume it is the memory because of that error the one time, but I can't reproduce it. Also, AHT only seems to test the memory and logic board now? Is that right? It used to do a video test with all the different color son the screen and test the other components. Does it no longer do this?
OWC said they'd replace the memory - if I can figure out which one is bad. Good luck.
I can't call Apple as my Applecare won't be here until Tuesday (I get a discount through work or I'd have renewed over the phone)
I ran memtest and member and it passed every time, though it was unable to lock the memory.
Any idea what might be wrong and how I can fix it?

Not sure how long it has been bad. I have known for a couple weeks as I had dusted out the inside of my machine with compressed air a few weeks ago and accidentally plugged it in to the wrong port. the computer was working fine then, so I let it go as something I'd eventually get fixed when I reupped my AppleCare.
I don't have the modem going through the surge protector at this time, but I probably should.
Now, since I have run Onyx, the computer boots up and seems to run fine.
However, every time I run AHT if the Ethernet cable is plugged in, I get this error:
4MEM/43/40000006: B: 1 C: 1 R: 1
If I run it with the Ethernet unplugged it passes every time.
That said, the first error code I got, was 4MEM/42/40000006: B: 1 C: 1 R: 1. I only got that the first time I ran AHT (which I mentioned in my first post) and have you to get that message again. The one with 43 I get every time if the Ethernet is plugged in and not at all otherwise.
It passes rember and memtest every time too. I just ran 2 more cycles of rember this morning.
It seemed I was having the 10.5.5 graphics issues many others were having and those seem to have been fixed by Onyx. Apple Care won't be of any help because this is all 3rd party memory I have in here (I do still have my original Apple Ram), but OWC won't replace any of it unless I can narrow it down to WHICH chip(s) it is.
So I am not sure if anything IS wrong aside from my Ethernet. It seems to be running smootly post Onyx. I am going to try a few restarts to see if I have any graphics issues. The guy at OWC suggested I take the memory to best buy or a computer store to see if they have a memory tester to find out if that is really the issue.
When Apple Care arrives, I'll get the Ethernet port replaced.
Any other suggestions?

How can I keep Itunes from wanting to put my music cd in the compilations folder. Even a 2 disc set sometimes itunes will place one cd in a folder of the name of the band and the other disc in the compilations folder under the name of the cd

Two issues. The first one is that when I upload some music cd's into my itunes library, itunes wants to place the songs in a compilations folder. Sometimes this occurs even with a 2 or 3 cd set. One CD will be filed under the artists name and the disc 2 may be filed in the compilations folder and listed by the name of the cd and not the artist.
2nd issue is that sometimes cd's are similiar, but with different artists such as 20th century Hits of Neil Young. The CD is filed in the compilations folder. Than I upload the 20th century Hits of Tanya Tucker and the songs go into the same folder with Neil Young. The don't even mix as one is county and the other is rock.
I have moved these CD's out of the compilations folder and moved them in with the other cd's by the same artist, but Itunes keeps moving them back into the compilations folder.
Is there a fix

Generally setting a common Album title and Album Artist will fix things.
For compilations that aren't, select all tracks, Get Info, and on the option tab set Part of a Compilation to No. If it already says No tick the box alongside, then click OK.

Compiled executable language problem(s)

I have a really annoying problem with unexpected Chinese language instead of the English!
First the Distributed System manager showed up in Chinese. A search within ni.com hit a document instructing to 1st try and rename the following folder (being originally "ChineseS"):
..\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\System Manager\11.0\Chinese
I did that and the Distributed System Manager showed up correctly in English! Then I had to check its help and again it showed up in Chinese so I 1st renamed the corresponding subfolder in the:
..\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\System Manager\11.0\help
However since that had not helped I did the 2nd option - copying the english help file over the chiense... - and that solved the problem.
Now I am trying to build a HostVI EXE to read a TargetVI EXE from a cRIO and allthough the VI shows correct English, its compiled version shows messed characters like in the "Host VI App.png". "Run-Time Languages.png" shows a working language selection combination. The compiled HostVI EXE simply won't run if the Chinese language is not included. And regardless to the default selection being English - the EXE shows garbage...
Does anyone know how to solve this ridiculus issue?

I'm sorry to hear that you're having this issue with LabVIEW. In the interest of reproducing your issue, can you confirm that you're using version 2011 of our software and which OS are you using on the two PCs that you mention. Also, to clarify, when you say that this happens on 2/3 of your PCs, do you mean that you have tried compiling the executive on multiple PCs with the development environment, or just that you have tested the compiled executive on multiple PCs? Problem of executing a process under Linux using Runtime.exec

I am having a problem of executing a process under Linux and looking for help.
I have a simple C program, which just opens a listening port, accept connection request and receive data. What I did is:
1. I create a script to start this C program
2. I write a simple java application using Runtime.exec to execute this script
I can see this C program is started, and it is doing what it supposed to do, opening a listening port, accepting connection request from client and receiving data from client. But if I stop the Java application, then this C program will die when any incoming data or connection request happens. There is nothing wrong with the C program and the script, because if I manually execute this script, everying works fine.
I am using jre1.4.2_07 and running under Linux fedora 3.0.
Then I tried similar thing under Windows XP with service pack2, evrything works OK, the C program doesn't die at all.

I then set myself up as a new user on our computer and tried to sync. I now get the error that my iPad is synced to another library. How can I start over without erasing all my data on the iPad?

Go back to her login. Unless you deliberately erased apps, they should all be there, both yours and hers! Then, you need to set up each iPad separately. You will notice that they have separate names for that very purpose.
There is no problem with multiple Apple IDs on the same iTunes on the same computer except... Apps are permanently associated with the ID that was originally used to obtain them. If you choose to update an app from inside iTunes and you're logged into the "wrong" ID, you must log out and back in again.
On the bright side, you can configure either or both iPads to sync with apps and music and movies, etc. from either or both IDs. Further, if you choose to update the apps from the iPads themselves, there is no need to log out/in. The device handles that. All you need is the correct password. In my case, I use the same password for both IDs to make things easier.

Ipod nano (6th gen), appears under devices in itunes and all songs play properly. Upon ejecting from PC, ipod says 0 songs but still 14gb/14.88 have been used up. What is the problem here?

Pretty much what I asked in the question. Plugged the ipod back into the PC and it still works fine under Devices in itunes and all the songs re-appear here again. Havent been syncing with any different computers

Intel Fortran compiler broken under Mavericks

After upgrading to OS 9 on a Mac Pro and a MacBook Pro, and installing Xcode 5.0.1 on both, my Intel Fortran compiler (vs 12.0.5) no longer works. I have updated the command line tools. When I try compiling a source file it fails with the message:
ifort: error #10001: could not find directory in which g++ resides
There is a compiler option to specify the location of g++ "-gxx-name=" but this doesn't help - same error message. I'm not sure if I need to set a system variable or if I need to go back to an earlier version of Xcode. Has anyone managed to get their Intel Fortran compiler working under Mavericks?

I'm having the same problem!!! Leopard has crashed ifort 32 bits! So I can't run my programs on my macbook core duo (32 bits), although it's ok with the ifort 64 bits version. But I really REALLY need the 32 version working on Leopard. Anyone has any clue about how to solve it? I've tried some 9.1 ifort's versions and the new 10.1 version. You can find evaluation versions on the intel's site.
Please someone help us.

Anyone else annoyed by the location of Xcode4's move of compiled executables?

Hey all,
In the older Xcode versions (before 4), the compiled executables were placed in build/Debug under the project's directory. That made a lot of sense to me. Xcode4 places the executables out in the user's library directory in some seemingly randomly named directory structure. Yes, sure, it's able to be located, so not impossible to work with. When I'm using Xcode, I typically have a few terminal sessions going at the same time (I am developing command-line utilities) and I find it necessary to view code and run the executables. My workaround is to create a symbolic link (named runtime) in the top-level project directory that points to this Xcode generated directory out in the user Library directory. This isn't a great workaround because backing up a project is far more difficult (it's in multiple places).
Do any of you find this annoying? Have you found any good workarounds you'd like to share?

See Xcode > Preferences > Locations > and select Place build products in locations specified by targets as the preferred build location. The default is Place build projects in derived data location (default) selection. For a specific project, see Xcode > File > Project Settings (or Workspace Settings) and change the setting.
This default derived data directory location scheme is fundamental to preventing the Xcode workspaces from getting tangled. Secondary to that, it makes it easier to clean up intermediate and derived data if and when and as needed, rather than having to dig it out of individual projects and directories, too.
To locate the derived data using the Xcode4 default derived data scheme, launch Xcode, open the project, open the Organizer, select Projects, and click on the link over to the derived data directory.
You can also drag that directory from Finder over to Terminal.app, too, for use in a cd command or otherwise, but you probably know that.
If you're so inclined, you can also add the link (re)creation into the build itself; add a script to do what you need here. There's probably one posted somewhere around the net, too.
For tools-related questions, there's generally more traffic on the Xcode mailing list and in its mailing list archives, or (if you're in the developer's program) via the Developer forums, and there have been some discussions of this. (These forums don't see as much developer-related traffic.)

Problems with Safari (4.0.5) Mail and Time Machine

For some time I have been experiencing every day issues with Safari and Mail. These apps constantly crash i.e. several times a day. Recently I noticed also some issues with Time Machine. Please find below extract form Console that may say smething about the reasons for it:

Please give me some advise of what should be done to cure the stability of my iMac.

If you have any, they'd be in that folder, in either your User directory or your root directory. If you have no such folders, then you have no Input Managers and they wouldn't be the cause of the problem.
In that case, I'd suggest going to Users/Username/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and deleting the contents of that folder, then locking the folder via the Get Info window.
Then go to Users/Username/Library/Safari and delete these files:
Downloads.plist
History.plist
LastSession.plist
Restart Safari and see if things improve.
If not, then the last thing I would suggest is downloading Onyx (http://www.titanium.free.fr/index_us.html) for your version of Mac OS X; install and launch it, select Automation, then select "Maintenance Scripts" and under Cache, select "System" and "User" (or "System and Kernel"), depending on options what your version gives you. Uncheck everything else and click the Execute button. Restart your Mac when it's done, then test Safari again.

I have an iPod Touch but I currently don't have a PC. I found an app that would allow me to connect to my network drive and I was able to transfer music files to it. These files do not show under the Music app and I can't find any way to do it.

I found an app that would allow me to connect to my 2TB network drive directly and I was able to transfer a bunch of music files to the iPod. Unfortunately, these new files do not show under the Music app and I can't seem to find any way to convince the iPod that they are music. I can play them through the file manager only. Android doesn't have this problem, any music I put on my phone is recognized as music and can be played through any of the music apps. Am I missing something or is Apple to inflexible to handle this?

You can't. The only way to get songs in the Music app is to sync from a computer or to download from iTunes.
