I copied a chat applet, but whenever i try to convert the chat.java to chat.class i get the following.
C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\htdocs>c:\jdk12~1.1\bin\javac chat.java
chat.java:13: Public class Chat must be defined in a file called "Chat.java".

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Please check for the case in the file name.Check if you have saved the file as Chat.java and not as chat.java

  • Ant tools: converter java card -  class file  not belonging to the package!

    Hi
    I have another problem with converter. Could you help me please again if you have the time?
    I have created a directory when I save the class files generated by javac. After That , I use convert in this way:
    <convert
    JCA="true"
    EXP="true"
    CAP="true"
    packagename="testUn/classes/testUn"
    packageaid="0x01:0x01:0x01:0x01:0x01:0x01:0x01:0x01:0x02:0x00"
    majorminorversion="1.0"
    verbose = "true">
    <AppletNameAID

    <classpath refid="classpath"/>
    </convert>
    Here is the answer of the computer:

    I do not understand why this unique applet class file does not belong to its own package. Is someone an idea?
    Thanks very much in advance for your answer.

  • Beginner: Can't convert a hello.class file into a jar file: HELP PLEASE!!!

    Hi, I created a hello.java file, converted into a hello.class file by using the java 2SDk compiler. The problem is that the hello.class file is in a directory I created: C:\JavaBuilder\hello.class
    I have a problem converting the hello class file into a jar file. I don't know which approach to take. I've looked at tutorials...but I keep getting more confused each time I view the tutorials on creating jar files. Please can someone help..by taking me through a step by step process. Please be explicit and do not leave or assume that I know any details because I'm a new born beginner. Thank you very much, I seriously appreciate it.

    Hi i did as you suggested, only with these exceptions:
    jar -cvf hello.jar C:\JavaBuilder\hello.class
    I did this and got the message: "adding : C:\JavaBuilder\hello.class (in=1150) (out=708) (deflated=38%)"
    The problem is that when I tried to execute the jar file...by typing: " java -jar hello.jar" I received the error message: "Failed to load Main-Class Manifest attribute from hello.jar" Is there any way to correct this problem? please help, thank you.

    Hi!
    first of all, you should use an upper-case character for the first letter of your classes...
    To answer your question :
    1) you must create a directory named "meta-inf" in your directory "C:\JavaBuilder"
    2) then,you must create a file named "manifest.mf" in this directory
    it's like a property file and it must contain this :
    Main-Class: hello
    (don't forget to type <enter> after "hello")
    3) in the directory "C:\JavaBuilder", you can enter the following command :
    "jar cvfM hello.jar meta-inf\manifest.mf hello.class"
    (check jar.exe is in your path)
    4) you can run your jar by the command :
    "java -jar hello.jar"

  • How to convert JSP Compiled class file back to JSP

  • Verifying .java and .class files match

    I have a bit of a strange situation in a team-working environment where many developers copy code to a production server. None of this code is in a Version Control System and I have been given the task of getting it into one (I've chosen Subversion, but that isnt important)
    The problem is, its not as simple as doing a full commit of the production server because developers may have copied edited .class files onto the server, but not copied edited .java (therefore the .java file is not the same as the .class file)
    Because the server has hundreds (if not thousands) or java and class files, I cant just decompile each of the class files and manually see if they match the java files, so I'm asking, is there a tool that can verify a java file matches a class file of the same name in terms of version (or if not is there an easier way of doing it than the decompile method)?
    Thanks in advance

    Years ago I had to do something very much like this...and now I'm trying to recall how we did it (and for that matter whether it worked)...and I'm having trouble recalling. Ah, that's what happens when you read forums out of insomnia.
    Of course, you can do a baseline check by just checking the file timestamps. Also instead of decompiling the class files you can try re-compiling the source code, and then generating checksums on both class files to see if they're the same.
    You might be able to use BCEL (http://jakarta.apache.org/bcel/) to extract some useful information out of the class files. As I recall I tried this but the data wasn't useful for this kind of project, but maybe I'm misremembering. It's worth looking into.

  • Could not find .java and .class files...

    I am working on Windows Vista operating system.
    I am able to access the .java which I created and also .class files from the command prompt.
    But I am not able to find those files in the bin folder in Windows Explorer.
    I want to delete some .java and .class files. When I use the delete command on the command prompt , I am getting ---- could not find the file.
    Can anyone help me...

    Hey everyone,
    I found the answer!
    If the command prompt application is run as administrator(since it is windows vista), the created .java files as well as .class files will be stored and can be seen in the bin folder.
    However, I could not locate the .java files (and also corresponding .class files) which I created previously.

  • Web dynpro dc compoent controller method call from Java dc class file

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to call a wd java component controller method from a java dc class file?
    I have declared wd java dc as used dc in java dc.Any poiters for the same would be really helpful.
    Thanks in Advance.
    regards
    Radhika Kuthiala

    Hi,
    short answer: No.
    1. using WD references outside of WD DCs is unsupported and will at least show a warning when you try to deploy. Correct usage of runtime dependencies is not predictable.
    2. WebDynpro Controllers have a lifecycle that is controlled by the Framework. Even if you manage to initialize a Controller via "new" and use a method, the Controller will never have all the state-information it contains when started regualary. (think of mapped context, context attributes in general, code called in wdInit ...) I would suppose it is possible to implement a runnable low-profile example that still works, but as soon as you try to use "higher" concepts of WD (which would be the only reason to use a WD Component Controller at all), you will definitely fail.
    3. Think of it as calling EJBs Session Beans via "new", but more complex.
    hope that helps

  • I am having a problem converting a scanned pdf file into Excel.

    I am having a problem converting a scanned pdf file into Excel. I do not get the columns and rows to align, just a single column of everything. Any suggestions?

    Export makes use of what is "in" a PDF.
    Good export is the "silk purse" and, ya know, you canna make a silk purse from a sow's ear (which is what any scanned image in PDF is with regards to export).
    The quality of export is dictated by the quality of the PDF. We are taking about the "inner essences" of the PDF (e.g., degree of compliance with the PDF Standard - ISO 32000-1).
    So, what goes in goes out or "GIGO".
    This has nothing to do with Acrobat or Acrobat's export process.
    A well-formed Tagged PDF (compliant to ISO 32000-1 & ISO 14289-1, PDF/UA-1) provides a PDF that proactively
    supports content export by Acrobat.
    To get the good stuff from export you start with a well-formed Tagged PDF.
    Goodstuff In — Goodstuff Out
    or
    Garbage In — Garbage Out
    "GIGO"
    Be well...

  • Problem with variable in class file.

    Im working on a project from school where I read in a text file with numbers and print the max and the min. In my main file, I read in the text file and set the different numbers to variables a, b, and c. My question is, when Im writing my class file MaxMin, is there anyway to access those variables to compare them? Or will I have to do it some other way. Thanks for your help.

    Ok. Sorry
    Here is the main code
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.StringTokenizer;
    public class LabAssign1
    public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException
    final int TOKENS_PER_LINE = 3;
    String fileName = "labassign1.txt";
    File theFile = new File(fileName);
    FileInputStream theStream = new FileInputStream(theFile);
    InputStreamReader theReader = new InputStreamReader(theStream);
    BufferedReader input = new BufferedReader(theReader);
    int numLines = 0;
    String line = input.readLine();
    while (line != null)
    StringTokenizer st = new StringTokenizer(line);
    if (line.length() == 3)
    int a = Integer.parseInt(st.nextToken());
    int b = Integer.parseInt(st.nextToken());
    int c = Integer.parseInt(st.nextToken());
    else
    line = input.readLine();
    input.close();
    Is there any way to call variables a,b,and c in a separate class file?

  • Problems with java.lang.Class in JDK1.3

    Hi,
    I have 3 problems with the reflection in java.lang.Class:
    1) In the specification of method java.lang.Class.getDeclaredFields() is wrote:
    "Returns .... This includes public, protected, default (package) access, and private fields ..."
    This means, that all private fields should be return too. But some private methods are not given back. ????
    2) In java.lang.Class.getDeclaredMethods()
    some public methods are not return. ????
    3) In java.lang.Class.getDeclaredMethods()
    If Class is an interface. The same problem like 2) ????
    Are they errors of java.lang.Class in JDK1.3 ????
    Thanks & sincerely.

    Not sure it makes a difference, but you left off the last part of the quote:
    This includes public, protected, default (package) access, and private classes and interfaces declared by the class, but excludes inherited classes and interfaces.
    Are these missing methods from inherited classes, or are they declared in the class itself?

  • EJB deployment problem --New remote interface class files are not loaded

    Hi, I face a problem while deploying an ear file in oc4j. I basically get some problems like the method in the remote interface is not implemented in the EJB class. But the implementation is actually available in the EJB class.
    We get this problem when we actually change the signature of the EJB remote methods. The new methods are not referenced by oc4j. Only the old version of remote interface is referenced by oc4j. But the latest version of EJB class is taken. I am using 9.0.3 version of the oc4j. Could you pls help me regarding this problem ?
    Regards
    Solomon

    I have found the solution :-)
    You must add to the ejbCreate() method of the bean class throws javax.ejb.CreateException

  • Problem with Java and Zip Files

    Hello there everyone. I have a problem with trying to zip up directories with empty folders in them. They zip fine with my code, but according to winzip, the number of files in the archive is incorrect. It's supposed to have a total of 288 files in it, but when it's zipped up, it only says 284. I mention specifically the "empty directories" note because the zipping works fine without empty folders.
    Below is the code for the zip method:
    public static void zip(File[] list, File zipfile, File zipRoot)
         throws IOException {
          if (!zipfile.exists()) {
                   zipfile.createNewFile();
              else if (!zipfile.isFile()) {
                   throw new IOException("The zip file, " + zipfile.getAbsolutePath()
                             + " is not a file.");
              if (list.length == 0) {
                  LOG.error("The list of files to zip up is empty.");
              for (int i = 0; i < list.length; i++) {
                   if (!list.exists()) {
                        throw new IOException("The file or directory, " + list[i].getAbsolutePath()
                                  + " does not exist.");
              FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(zipfile);
              ZipOutputStream zos = new ZipOutputStream(fos);
              for (int i = 0; i < list.length; i++) {
                   if (LOG.isDebugEnabled())
                        LOG.debug(i + ": " + list[i].getName());
                   String entryName = getRelativeName(list[i], zipRoot);
                   if (list[i].isDirectory()){
                        if (list[i].listFiles().length == 0){
                             ZipEntry entry = new ZipEntry(entryName + "/");
                             zos.putNextEntry(entry);
                   else {
                        ZipEntry ze = new ZipEntry(entryName);
                        zos.putNextEntry(ze);
                        byte[] buffer = new byte[8096];
                        FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(list[i]);
                        int read = 0;
                        read = fis.read(buffer);
                        if (LOG.isDebugEnabled())
                        LOG.debug("\tFound " + read + " bytes.");
                        if (read == -1){
                             //empty file, but add it for preservation.
                             //zos.write(buffer,0,0);
                        while (read != -1) {
                             zos.write(buffer, 0, read);
                             read = fis.read(buffer);
                        fis.close();
                        zos.closeEntry();
              zos.close();
    The files look like they're there, but I need the system to be able to determine the number correctly.
    Here's the interesting thing:  It zips the files, and then when I use the size() method for zip files in java, it says 284 files.  But when I unzip, it says 288 again.  It's like there's files missing when compressed, but when decompressed, they return.  Note that the files are actually there.  If I open the archive in a third party app such as Winzip AND Winrar AND IZarc, they all show 288 files.  Any idea what would make the number of files appear incorrectly in a zip file when zipped by java with the code above?  Thanks in advance.

    I figured out the problem. When zipping files in windows using winzip, it doesn't explicitly count folders as a "file/folder" as a file in itself. It will create the folders for files to go in, but the folder itself will not be 'counted' when you query the info of the file itself. You have more control of the zip file in java, and can count the folder as a file or not.
