Problems generating classes with JAXB

Does anyone know where there might be a list of known problems with generating classes from an xsd with JAXB? I have a very deep and pretty complicated xsd, and it seems some elements get generated correctly and some don't. It's very hard to find any pattern of why. Is there a limit to the number of levels deep it will go?

  • How to use JAXB generated classes with SOAP

    hello,
    I have a library of JAXB generated classes for my web service. There is a Java class for each web method defined in my schema. For example, my getLocation method is mapped to GetLocation.class.
    However my web service is SOAP based, so I am having to manually strip off the SOAP elements to be able to unmarshall the getLocation xml to a GetLocation class.
    I am noticing a disconnect between JAXB and other Java SOAP and RPC libraries. Does anyone know how to create a JAXB class for SOAP Envelopes and Bodys? Does anyone have any ideas how to incorporate the existing Java web service libraries with JAXB?
    Thanks in advance.

    Have you found a method to integrate SAAJ and JAXB? Or
    is better to use SAAJ only ?If I had to choose I'd go with SAAJ. It seems to me that's theoretically possible to use JAXB classes with SAAJ but I imagine if it is possible it would be a big pain in the ass.

  • Can't generate setters for array or collection classes with JAXB

    I am trying to use JAXB to generate the required setters for Spring beans. Although according to the book Java & XML Data Binding
    Chapter 3 page 42 by Brett McLaughlin it was possible with DTD's using
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <xml-java-binding-schema version="1.0-ea">
    <options package="javajaxb.generated.movies" default-reference-collection-type="array" />
    <element name="movies" type="class" root="true"/>
    </xml-java-binding-schema>
    to generate an array as in
    public Movie[] getMovie( ) {
    // implementation
    public void setMovie(Movie[] _Movie) {
    it doesn't look like that capability exists with JAXB 2.0 and XML Schemas. In their wisdom they just generate getters on Lists and tell you:
    <p>
    * This accessor method returns a reference to the live list,
    * not a snapshot. Therefore any modification you make to the
    * returned list will be present inside the JAXB object.
    * This is why there is not a <CODE>set</CODE> method for the filingForm property.
    * <p>
    * For example, to add a new item, do as follows:
    * <pre>
    * getFilingForm().add(newItem);
    * </pre>
    Of course this doesn't work for Spring injection where setters are needed.
    Does anyone know different or is there a way of getting around this ?
    I've tried constructor injection in Spring but it's not as convenient and involves extensive coding of generated code (not nice).

    Oh I found it on this post
    http://cxf.547215.n5.nabble.com/NPE-in-generated-setter-method-when-collectionType-quot-indexed-quot-and-a-null-array-is-used-td3323012.html
    collectionType="indexed" in the globalBindings-tag
    it works in schema internal global bindings as well
    <jaxb:globalBindings collectionType="indexed" >

  • How to extend/ replace generated classes from JAXB

    Hello Experts,
    In our application (Which uses Java Webdynpro as the UI and RFC’s for the backend access- an R/3 System), there is a need to construct an XML file (from the data entered by the user) which will be later accepted by the backend system. Now to avoid manual creation of the XML document, what we did is that we created an XSD file based on the back end structure (This XSD contains definition for all the possible fields and structures in the back end).
    Then we used the JAXB implementation to automatically create Java Objects from the XSD file. We populate this JAXB generated Java objects and then use the Serialization framework to serialize them into an XML file.
    This all works well, provided that the structure of the back end system does not change, but unfortunately it can, customer can add additional attributes to the existing structures (They do not create new structures, just add new attributes to it so I do not need to create new Java Object classes at runtime, I need only to add attributes to them). If they do so, the XSD and corresponding Java Objects (which are shipped as part of the source code) do not remain valid anymore as the automatically generated Objects (which correspond to the structures in the back end) would not have the definition of the newly added attributes.
    Can anyone please suggest how to overcome this limitation with JAXB.
    The needed functionality is that somehow I should be able to add fields (corresponding to the customer added attributes) to the automatically created Java objects and thus pass the data in the additional attribute to the backend. (Please note that at runtime using an RFC, I can find out the current structure of the backend but the structure at the Webdynpro end (set of Java objects generated from the JAXB) is static and is a part of the code).
    Any comments/suggestions could be of great help.
    Thanks
    Amit Kapoor

    You cannot do that. TheJAVA language does not allow a class to "extend" more than one upper class.
    Typically, the solution is to modify your architecture a little bit. Just use the "has a" relationship instead of "is a". That means something like that:public class MyFraisMessage
        extends MyOtherClass
        private FraisMessage message;
      etc...You write an extension "MyFraisMessage" of your upper class "MyOtherClass", which has the JAXB generated object as an attribute. This structure is often useful, when you think you would need multiple inheritance.

  • Problem generating index with 2th level in cs4

  • Marshalling third party classes with JAXB

    I put together a test case similar to what is illustrated at:

    m.marshal( new JAXBElement( new QName("", "rootTag"), Color.class, color ), System.out);
    // Case 2: This fails...
    m.marshal(color, System.out);Case 1 "works" (doesn't error), but the output clearly shows that the ColorAdapter is not getting called.

  • Reusing JAXB generated classes for XSDs included in other XSDs

    Hi,
    I use xsds with jaxb in a number of related projects. To avoid duplication I've factored out commonly used elements into their own xsd in a separate project. I then include these in the xsds that need them.
    I generate classes with jaxb for each project. I'm now trying to get jaxb so far as to reuse the already generated classes for the common elements.
    For example: I have a general xsd Person.xsd for which I generate classes in common.xsd. I have another xsd Project.xsd that includes a reference to the Person element. When i let jaxb generate classes for Projects.xsd, it will also generate a project.xsd.PersonType and so on.
    Is there any way to tell JAXB to use the existing classes? I've played around with the <jxb:javaType> bindings, but I can't get it to work yet. It gives me a "bindings not used" warning and doesn't compile. Also, if this is in fact the way to go, what do I specify as the parseMethod and printMethod attributes for the javaType element?
    Thx for any help

  • Namespace issue with oracg generated classes

    Hi,
    I'm having problems generating classes with oracg from the Java Xdk from an XML schema. All classes are generated, but do not compile. In some sources (mostly in the type classes) "public void addSomething(null.Something theSomething)" is generated as the method declaration, and that doesn't compile. When I add a targetnamespace to the xsd file, the generated sources compile (the 'null.' is replaced with 'myPackage.', but when I generate an XML document, I contains a namespace reference (ns1) like this:
    <ns1:Note xmlns:ns1 = "http://www.somewhere.org">
    <ns1:Form>
    <ns1:Reference>
    <ns1:ReferenceNbr>1</ns1:ReferenceNbr>
    <ns1:ReferenceType>1</ns1:ReferenceType>
    </ns1:Reference>
    </ns1:Form>
    </ns1:Note>
    What I want is this:
    <Note>
    <Form>
    <Reference>
    <ReferenceNbr>1<ReferenceNbr>
    <ReferenceType>1<ReferenceType>
    </Reference>
    </Form>
    </Note>
    How can I get this result ?
    Kind regards.

    Did you try adding the the XmlSeeAlso annotation to the webservice
    @XmlSeeAlso({<package.name>.AccountIC.class})
    This will add the schema for the data type (AccountIC) to the WSDL.
    Hope this helps.

    Well, after hours of digging I found a solution which actually was right in front of me the whole time.
    This is how I edited the schema.
        <xsd:complexType name="options">
            <xsd:sequence>
                <xsd:element name="option" maxOccurs="unbounded" >
                    <xsd:complexType>

                            <xsd:extension base="xsd:string">
                               <xsd:attribute name="value" type="xsd:string" >
                                  <xsd:annotation><xsd:appinfo>
                                    <jaxb:property name="realValue" />
                                  </xsd:appinfo></xsd:annotation>
                                 </xsd:attribute>
                            </xsd:extension>
                        </xsd:simpleContent>
                    </xsd:complexType>
                </xsd:element>
            </xsd:sequence>
        </xsd:complexType>Before, I placed the <xsd:annotation> tag efter the first line but inside the <xsd:attribute> made much better if you would like it to work.
    When marshling an @XmlRoot object will produce valid xml code. So even though that the server have a different xml schema, they will be able to talk to each other.

  • Specifying package structure and inheritance for jaxb generated classes ??

    Friends,
    Now I am tuned up with the sweet JAXB utility...
    I need answers to this..
    1. How do I specify a package structure in my generated java files?
    2. How do I specify inheritance heirarchy to my generated java files ?
    I assume, there must be some way of doing this, without opening the actuall source.
    any ideas ??
    Thanks
    Rakesh

    how about inheritance heirarchy ? What if i plan to include theses generated classes in my inheritance heirarchy ?
    Bhakti, any idea what is the final version release date ? I desperately need answer to this.
    Thanks
    Rakesh
