Problems in VALUECHANGELISTNER in JSF

I am developing a web application using IBMs RAD tool. with websphere 5.0 test environment.
I am using JSF. Here I have a a selectone dropdown menu ,input text boxes followed by another selectone dropdown menu and then few checkboxes. I have a valuechangelistner for both the dropdown menus, on the value change event of the 1st dropdown I need to display some data onto the screen. I am doing this by callin the value change event in my PAGECODE (manage bean) and this is working fine. And when there is a change in value in the second dropdown then I need to disable/enable the checkboxes based on the value in the 2nd dropdown
This is not happening.
I am using "disabled" attribute for the checkboxes which are bound to boolean variables declared in my databean. These vales are changed at runntime.
This is wat I am doing before calling the value change listner method in the pagecode, I am submiting the form in which the "selectone menu"
is present and than the valuechange listner method is called. When I debug the code at runtime the boolean variables are having correct values but once the form is reloaded after completing the pagecode the previous values are overwritten. Thus the checkboxes are not geting enabled and disabled properly.
Is there anything I am missing while calling the "valuechange listner" on the pagecode ? And manyof my colleagues are facing whenever we use the "disabled" attribut on "booleancheckboxes" and "radio buttons".
Can somebody explain more on this "erase()" method.
We are having a work around by using hidden text fields and then disabling/enabling check boxes using JAVA Script.
Also I tried using two forms: I kept the first dropdown in the first form and the second dropdown in the second form. Is there a way to stop one of the forms from loading at one time manually ?
Do u think by upgrading the test environment to 5.1 this problem will be solved ?

Usually, a value change listener is invoked just after the Process Validations phase.
Then, the lifecycle proceeds to the Update Model Values phase.
If you also bind the boolean variables in your databean to some input components,
the variables are set as the local values of those components which may be
the old ones.
If this is the situation, you have three different ways to solve it.
(1) invoke facesContext.renderResponse() in the value change listener
which will skip the Update Model Values phase.
(2) change the phase of processing the value change event.
(3) not use the value change listener.
In your case, this is the simplest way I think.
For example, you can write some simple code as follows:
public boolean getDisabled() {
if (some condition for the value of 2nd dropdown) {
return true;
} else {
return false;
}

• Problem with adding Sun JSF RI v1.2 as a new library in JDeveloper 10.1.3.1

Hi,
I have a problem with adding a latest JSF 1.2 RI from Sun (https://javaserverfaces.dev.java.net/files/documents/1866/44998/jsf-1_2_03.zip) to JDeveloper as a new library.
I created a new User library and added into it jsf-impl.jar and jsf-api.jar from JSF 1.2 RI.
Then I try to create two new JSP Tag libraries based from .tld files.
When a .tld file is placed in "TLD File:" field there is no information below about Library Version and Required JSP Version. If I check "Execute Tags in JSP Visual Editor" and click "Customize" button - list of tags in "Customize Tag Library" window is empty.
I have errors when I try to use JSF Tags from this new library in JSP page like :
"Can't create tag instance: f:view (class: null). Make sure, that the tag class or a library contained this class is available in this application"
(free translation to English)
Is this possible to add JSF RI v1.2 as another library in Jdeveloper 10.1.3.1 ?
thanks for help

Hi,
This solution is not exactly for Jdeveloper 10.1.3.x I think.
- "Create a JSF system library." section, point 2. - there is not possible to add library in folder other than User I see, so I added it in User folder.
- "Register the JSF JSP tag libraries." section, point 5. - in JD 10.1.3 there is no dialog box, I checked checkbox "Show Tag Library in Palette". A new library was added to User folder but there is no new libraries in component Palette.
Even as I use "Edit tag libraries .." from Component Palette context menu and add manually new tag libraries to selected, there is no libraries in Component Palette after it.
I feel so problem is with different .tld files format, not with adding libraries method.

• URGENT: How to debug non-reproducable problem(s) in ADF JSF application?

This is one of the most anoying things in programing.... We have JSF application developed by JDev 10.1.3 and deployed on AS. It works fine but almost once or twice per day users complain that, say on a certain page (could be any page) they click on a button or a link and nothing happens. Sometimes it looks like the browser is trying to open a page but never does and sometimes the link or a button is dead. I looked into log file under opmn/logs and could not find anything?
This is very urgent, so please, please if you have any hint on how to approach this problem, let me know. At this time I cannot file the Service Request with Oracle since they would ask me to create sample code and reproduce the problem which is just not possible.
please help.

Hi,
if you are on JDeveloper 10.1.3.0 then chances are that these are concurrency issues. If a user starts a long running query then others may be blocked by this. This is fixed in JSF RI that is contained in JDeveloper 10.1.3.1
Its just a guess. To prove my assumption, make sure you run the app with a single seat and see if the issue reproduces or exclude queries from the tests.

• Problems with navigation using JSF 1.0 RI

I have a problem with faces in that navigation simply stops working. I have a page which have prev/next buttons on it, and a cancel button. Each button is of the form
<h:form id="viewxxx">
<h:commandButton value="XXX" styleClass="buttonInput" action="#{somebean.doSomeAction}"/>
</h:form>
The code behind the next/prev button action returns "success", the cancel returns an action string which returns the user to the previous screen.
After clicking on prev/next a few times one of two possible things happen:-
(1) the navigation stops working (all buttons do nothing)
(2) or after pressing a button a few times the navigation starts to work.
I tried to simplify things to find out if my backing code was causing the problem. I included a very simple button:-
<h:form id="view_c_getridofme">
<h:commandButton value="Test" styleClass="buttonInput" action="success"/>
</h:form>
and after clicking this a few time it also breaks the navigation. So I suspect something strange is going on inside the Faces implementation.
I checked the faces-config.xml and this is correct:

<navigation-case>
<from-outcome>success</from-outcome>
<to-view-id>/viewcorr.jsp</to-view-id>
<redirect />
</navigation-case>
I tried (albeit briefly) MyFaces 1.0.3 and the navigation does not break although it does present some other issues for me. My preference would be to use Sun's JavaFaces implementation if possible.
Can anyone shed light on this - why this may be happening?

I experienced the same problem while re-submitting to the same page about 15 times via a command button (a list page that would get updated with every new submit).
After having turned JSF logging on I discovered that my stylesheet (!) was interpreted by JSF as a Faces view (because of the /faces/-mapping before it) and that this caused the list page to be (incorrectly) added up towards the maximum of 15 views in the session. After 15 reloads JSF would remove the list page from view, re-create it, and I experienced the same problems as you described in the top post - no navigation worked.
My stylesheet used to be:

... which kept the /faces/ mapping from the page containing the css reference, and made it look like a faces view to JSF.
When I switched to:

... the problem disappeared.
Hope that helps all of you that have this problem. It certainly took me quite a while to figure it out!

• Problem opening popup from jsf page....

Hi to all....i have a problem, i'm trying to open a popup window using "outputLink".
My code is:
<h:outputLink value="#" onclick="window.open('#{appManager.basePath}/admin/selectCollection.jsf','','width=600, height=400, resizable=yes, fullscreen=no, menubar=no, toolbar=no, status=no, scrollbars=no, location=no')">

The "window.open" works perfectly, but the parent window shows the page "Directory Listing For /" with the list of directories of my root project...
What is the problem?

try to use the popupFrame component of jenia4faces library (http://www.jenia.org).
Is a good solution for popups problem

• Problem with using newer jsf implementation

Is it possible to use jsf-libraries from wls 10.3.1 on 10.3.0?
Or how to use newer version of jsf implementation than JSF RI 1.2_03 on wls 10.3?
I have also use RichFaces 3.3.1 and when I have tried to use Mojarra 1.2_12 richfaces components haven't worked correctly.
Thanks in advance,
Luke

I looked there and
"If your try to ship your webapplication with a separate JSF implementation, you are free to do this. Keep in mind, that the dependency injection mechanisms does not work with managed beans, if you do not use any of the WLS provided JSF containers.
Declaring something like this:
@EJB
private MySession session;
will lead to a java.lang.NullPointerException because of the missing depencency injection mechanisms. Would love to know any details about this. Maybe I'll find out more in the future.."
The problem is that I use annotations like @EJB, so ...
I'm still waiting for solution how to implement WeblogicInjectionProvider.

• Problems while deploying a JSF/ ADF Faces App to Apps Server 10.1.3.0.1

Dear All,
I built a JSF based application (Using ADF Faces Components) developed in JDeveloper 10.1.3.1.0 (Application Configuration: [JSF, ADF BC]. The application is running fine with the embedded OC4J intance (automatically aunch by JDeveloper).
I am now trying to deploy it on the installed Oracle Application Server (running on the same local machine). The details of the versioning for different components in this App server are as follows:
1. OracleAS J2EE 10.1.3.0.0
2. Oracle ADF 10.1.3.1.0
The deployment steps I followed (as given in Chapter 34 of 'Oracle ADF - Developer's Guide for Forms/4GL Developers') seems to be running smoothly. This is because the deploy process ends up showing no erros in the message window.
However when I tried to test the application with a browser using the Apps Server URL (HTTP://localhost:8888/<my-app>/<firstfile.jspx>), I am finding 'Page not found error'.
I also tried a manual deployment (using deploy to a WAR file then copy the resulting war & ear files and the xml descriptor file to the Apps server's http root) and gives the war file URL in the browser.
In this case now I am getting the following error page:
=====================================================
The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.
An invalid character was found in text content. Error processing resource
'http://localhost:8888/HousingWithADF.war'.
=====================================================
Any idea?
Regards,
Irfan Ilyas
PS: I am doubtful about creation of Deployment Descriptors step as the documentation is not very clear about exactly which descriptors we need to create. Using my own idea, I tried to create J2EE descriptor, and one tld (taglibrary) file. However, the manual war deployment generates only the tld file in the deploy folder.

Thanks for the hint.
OBSERVATION #1:
After looking through the administration console for OC4J instance, I found my application name with UP status. When drill-down further, the console gives me the URL which can be used to test the application.
While using the URL, a different error message was found:
URL: http://localhost:8888/KFUPMHousing/
Error:
====================
HTTP 403:(Forbidden)
================
You are not authorized to view this page
You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied.
From my experience of Microsoft IIS, I know here I may need to configure the folder permissions for a web-user. But exactly which user and where it is defined (at OS Level or in AS), I am not much sure.
Can you elaborate?
OBSERVATION #2:
The log text for my application shows the following error (for the attempt I did with the URL shown above)
Log Text
07/01/05 22:43:38.62 HousingWithADF: JspServlet: unable to dispatch to requested page: Exception:java.io.FileNotFoundException: C
:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\j2ee\home\applications\HousingWithADF\HousingWithADF\HosReqInfo.jspx (The system cannot find the file specified)
However, I can browse the file on my local disk in the path specified with a little change in the path. The file is found in 'pages' folder within the last folder,named HousingWIthADF. I tried to move the file in the exact path specified in the log and now finding the 'Page not found' error.
Any idea?

• Problem Transforming XML to JSF tags

I have a fealing there is something I don't know here,
I am transforming XML into a JSP that include tags from taglib http://java.sun.com/jsf/html (prefix="h")
This is an section from my stylesheet
<xsl:template name="forename">
<h:inputText>
<xsl:attribute name="value">#{abyss.myCustomer.forename}</xsl:attribute>
</h:inputText>
</xsl:template>
which transforms my XML to exactly what I expect if a was writting it directly as a jsp
<h:inputText value="#{abyss.myCustomer.forename}"></h:inputText>
but it still looks like this after it is rendered in the browser, and not like

which is how it looks if I cut and paste the result of the transformation into a jsp, and run that by itself
Does anyone have any idea was the <h:inputText does not evaluate the tag in the browser after the transformation ?

Yep, as you found, there were some changes in how the 1.6 handles the loading of array classes. This issue has been corrected in the 1.2 version of the RI. We still need to backport said fixes to 1.1.

• Problem with setTransient(true) JSF tree method

Hi all,
I have created dynamic tree .
I am parsing the Parent and Child nodes and constructing the tree.
I am using my own method treeSlectionHandler() for event handling for which i am using MethodBinding class and getCookieSelectedNode() method.
Here is the problem ,whenever I delete or add any node from/into database change did not reflected in the tree .
So I am using setTransient(true) which is able to reflect the database changes.
I have one JSP(tree page) with this tree and one button on this page .I am calling tree.setTransient(tree) inside button action.
Now I will delete one node from database.
So I will click the button then which will go to next page.
Again I will navigate to Tree page through menu.
If I click any node for the first time it will simply refresh the tree state as in the database (if 10 nodes in database it wil show 10)
But click action will not work (no check image set)
But for the very next click the click action works and check image is set.
So plz suggest me is there any other method to refresh the tree state ?
I[b] want both tree refresh and click action happen simultaneously.
I will be thankful if any one suggests me the solution .

Hello EJP !
You downloaded the sample to see? I use a button made in the project and not the browser button.
Note: Sorry if this with some english mistakes but I do not speak very well.

• Facelets and jsf-extensions problem.

I'm fairly certain I've run into a problem between facelets and jsf-extensions. I'm working with JSF 1.2 RI, Woodstock, Facelets 1.1.13, on Tomcat 6.
When trying to get Woodstock autoValidation to work I get a javascript error the "I has no properties". The error occurs in the com_sun_faces_ajax.js file in the jsf-extensions-dynamic-faces-0.1.jar (I've used both the RC4 and a build today ,10/18/07 from source with the same results). Here is the code snippet where it happens (with my comment).
var I = G.getElementsByTagName("components")[0];
var C = I.getElementsByTagName("render");
for(var F = 0; F < C.length; F++) {
In the second line there it looks like the variable I is null, but based on the post response below I don't know why.
The response from the post looks like this:
<partial-response><components><render id="PayableForm:vendorGci"><markup>{"valid":true,"id":"PayableForm:vendorGci"}</markup></render></components>
However the server side code (validation method) never gets executed. I'm willing to do some digging and debug work, but I'd need to be pointed in the right direction.
The following is more potentially useful code snippets.
Here is the textField code:
<w:form id="PayableForm">
<w:textField style="display:none;" />
<w:message for="vendorGci" />
<w:label id="vendorGciLabel" for="vendorGci" text="Vendor: " />
<w:textField id="vendorGci" autoValidate="true"
text="${vendorBean.searchGci}" maxlength="8" required="true"
validatorExpression="#{ vendorBean.validateVendor}" />
Here is the javascript in the page (the init function is called from the body: onLoad="setTimeout('init();', 0);" , this does happen):
<w:script type="text/javascript">
function VendorListener(){
function VendorNotify(props){
alert("VendorNotify called!"); <--------------- I never see this alert message
if ( props.id != "PayableForm:vendorGci") { return; }
var field = document.getElementById("PayableForm:vendorGciLabel");
field.setProps({
valid: props.valid
VendorListener.prototype.notify = VendorNotify;
function initAccountRows(){
var table = document.getElementById("PayableForm:vendorAccountTable");
table.initAllRows();
function init(){
initAccountRows();
var listener = new VendorListener();
dojo.subscribe(
webui.suntheme.widget.textField.event.validation.endTopic ,
listener, listener.notify);
Here is the validator method. It currently doesn't do anything, just trying to get something to work. I never see the output, and I never hit the breakpoint in the method.
public void validateVendor(FacesContext context, UIComponent comp, Object value){
System.out.println("**********************************");
System.out.println("validateVendor called");
System.out.println(value);
System.out.println("**********************************");
}

Actually I don't need a global variable. I need to refer in my included template the actual backing bean used in the current page. As all my backing bean extends a abstract class I could bind my component to a property of the current backing bean, no matters which one. Just like a polymorphic call but without the parameter. Let's imagine I could get this object of the facesContext object I would be able to do:
<rich:datascroller renderIfSinglePage="false" align="right" for="listagem" maxPages="12" fastStep="10"
pageIndexVar="pageIndex" pagesVar="pages" stepControls="show" fastControls="hide" boundaryControls="show"
inactiveStyleClass="paginacaoInativa" selectedStyleClass="paginacaoSelecionada"
styleClass="paginacao" tableStyleClass="paginacaoTabela"
binding="#{facesContext.currentBackingbean.formDataScroller}" id="paginacao">
Instead of pass the backing bean to the ui:param of this template... Dou you get the point?

• Problem using JSF + ajax4jsf:poll component

I have the following problem.
I have JSF page and ajax4jsf:poll component on it for polling the server.
There are also couple links and buttons on the page,
At first, when polling is not enabled the links and buttons work fine.
But after enabling polling and its' work, links and buttons stop working and the page is only reloaded when I click on them. Accoring to the logs action methods, binded to that links and buttons, are not invoked at all. And log shows that page is rerendered using ajax. But not pure JSF which we use in general case.
Does anybody have any ideas, why this can be? I looked through the internet and I could not find similar problems.
I will appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

I have never used it, but did you try the example as given at the related developer guide? Please note the a4j:region and the placement at its own form instead of in another/shared form.
