Problems reading RefNum output parameter from ActiveX

I'm running LabVIEW as a ActiveX server and access it from Python. Now I have encountered a problem when trying to read an output control that is a RefNum (actually a strict type def that I think is based on a DataLogRefNum containing a Enum). I get the following error message: "pywintypes.com_error: (-2147352567, 'Exception occurred.', (0, None, None, None, 0, -2147352571), 2)"
Has anyone experience of reading RefNums controls using ActiveX?
From Python? C++? VB? ...?

Hi Norman,
Unfortunately in the current release, you cannot do this. What you can do, is store the value into a table and read it in the external process, or write it into a file and read it from there. The next release will support passing output parameters from one activity to the next.

yes I would like to use it for ODI.. I would like the ouput of the refcursor to be fed to a text file using ODI. How to handle the records returned by the refcursor and map with txt file.

Problem calling Procedure with parameter from Dynamic Page

I received an error saying the Page not found
here's how to reproduce the error.
1. Create procedure in portal30 schema.
Create or Replace PROCEDURE PORTAL30.ADD_TWO_VALUES

However when I subsitute "ADD_TWO_VALUES(:v_one,:v_two, v_total);" in the dynamic page for "ADD_TWO_VALUES(3,2, v_total);", it runs just fine.
What's wrong here? Can I not use a parameter from a dynamic page and call a procedure with it? Help is needed urgently and will be greatly appreciated.

Problems reading non-english fields from database on Unix platform

I am trying to get some data(not in English) from the database and write it to the file. I use ResultSet for that perpose. On PC the program runs all right, but when I run it on Unix, I get garbage instead of letters in my output file. I tried different combinations: such methods of ResultSet like getString, getAsciiStream, getBinaryStream, getCharacterStream and encodings like
String str = new String(rs.getBytes(), "USO-8859-1"/"UTF-8").
Nothing helps!

Problem - reading an abitrary string from the command line in basic swing

I'm sorry if this problem is a bit basic, but I've only just started swing in Java. Anyway, I'm trying to adapt a basic swing version of the HelloWorld class. When I try to pass an abitrary string from the command line to the label within the class, I get the following error,

Problem reading external HTML format from text file

I have a text file containing html formatted text which I try to get into a textfield.
All works fine locally and even on my localhost test server, but when uploading to the real server - I get a blank.
Anyone have any ideas? THANKS

The text file is generated by PHP script that gets an html formated text from flash (it is an online editing part of an application):

I have a temporary/partial solution to this problem.
As we control the application adapter that is posting messages to the MQSeries queue, we have changed the sender to put the text into the bytes message object using writeUTF rather than writeText that it was using. My reader the does a readUTF.

How to read Discoverer optional parameter from URL

Our Discoverer implementation (10G) does not use Oracle SSO. We are using Siteminder SSO and are trying to launch the Discoverer url from our asp page.
Our Discoverer sql needs to filter data based on the user running the report.
We cannot use private connections since this involves creating a schema for each user (DBA is not accepting this).
Hence, we want to create a public connection and pass the SSO user id of the user in the Discoverer url.
We have multiple workbooks and all of them have multiple mandatory parameters.
Hence, <strong>we want to pass only 1 parameter (SSO userid) in the URL. The user should be prompted to enter rest of the parameters.
He should also not be able to change the SSO userid parameter.</strong>
We have written an html based on other threads in this forum for logging in.

But, that seems to work only when we pass all the parameter values and only when we give the workbook name.
When we pass one parameter value in the url and don't pass the other mandatory params, the query does not run. Nor do we get the screen to enter the remaining parameter values.
We cannot enter the workbook name, as this parameter is required for all the workbooks

Hence, we want to pass only 1 parameter (SSO userid) in the URL. The user should be prompted to enter rest of the parameters.I am afraid you cannot do this, it is all or nothing. The only way I can see this working is if you create a login workbook that has an SSO User id parameter. You then post a URL that runs the workbook and passes in the SSO user id. The workbook then saves the SSO User id in a database context. The user would then have to select and run their workbook after the logon had completed.
He should also not be able to change the SSO userid parameter.You cannot do this either. There would be nothing to stop the user rerunning the login workbook with a different SSO User id parameter. You could protect the SSO User id by having a second hashed key parameter in the workbook. The asp would then pass the SSO User id and a second parameter obtained by hashing the SSO User id with a secret password. The workbook would then hash the SSO User id passed in with the password held in the database and check this against the hash in the secord parameter. A user then could not successfully rerun the login workbook because they wouldn't know what hash value to enter.

Problem reading custom property file from custom event handler.

Hi,
My custom event handler needs some bits of information that I have set up in a property file. However, when the event handler runs it throws a FileNotFound exception - actually its because permission was denied.
I have added the code System.getProperty("user.name") to find out the actual user that the event handler is running as. It reports that "oracle" is the user.
That's great. However, the permissions on the file will allow oracle to read/write the file. If I log onto the server where OCDB runs (as oracle), I can vi the file.
The file is owned by another user, but the "oracle" is a member of the group that has read/write (we're running on a unix box). The file is not 777.
The event handler is actually calling a static utility method that returns the Properties. This utility is used elsewhere in other custom apps in conjunction with OCDB (on the same server). It works there, so the utility is functioning correctly.
Is there something going on that I'm missing? Like somehow the event handler is acually runn as somebody else?

Sorry to have wasted your time. It was a server reboot issue. The ocdb server hasn't been restarted since early July. We added the users and groups late last week. Although we tested on line, the server wasn't quite up to speed with the new changes.
We bounced the server and all is well.

i'm using srw.set_hyperlink to call report from report.
i have created a key value in the cgicmd.dat file called

Reading the output values after each step executes in LabVIEW User Interface

Hello all,
Development environment: TestStand 2010 SP1 and LabVIEW 2010 SP1
Problem: is there a way to execute the subsequent steps programatically and get the output values from each of them?
I have already extended a little bit a Full OI interface for TestStand to load up any sequence, choose some of the steps and run them step by step (something like option to Run Selected steps). What I am trying to do is to add some actions between each step and do that in User Interface (I can't modify the sequence!), so I am starting the NewExecution with some previously configured InteractiveArgsParam and set an option breakAtFirstStep to True. Afterwards I am just doing something like Step Over when debugging the sequence and this works good, but I didn't fine a way yet to read the output values from the steps...
Then, if I wait until the execution finishes I can read my Results by processing the ResultObject, but this works only after finalizing of the test sequence. Since I wanted to stop after each step, read the values, do some actions and continue to the next step I tried to register an event callback for Trace of Execution View Manager. I can see that after each executed step this event is triggered, but when I try to read a ResultObject returned in Event Data it is not filled with values (ResultList seems to be empty?). Is it a proper behaviour or maybe I am doing the readout in wrong way? (It is the same VI as for reading ResultObjects after sequence finishes and there it works fine for arrays, containers and other data types).
Like I mentioned I can't modify the Test sequences, I can't add a UImessages.
What are my options? Should the trace event returns all output values from each steps or is it just used for status checking? Or maybe there is completely different approach to that matter?

Thanks for your replay, I have tried to build it in my LabView Block Diagramm, es seems like this image.
But the variable GetNumSubProperties ist always 0. Why?
PS: I need only the variable "Step.Result.PassFail" from the last step, do you know, how can I get it? I think, it is maybe easier than read all the "Result".

Output parameter

How can I return and see what is in my output parameter from HTML_DB using a procedure?

I am not sure what your saying. I am using a PLSQL anonymous block as my source type for my page item. I am also using (DISPLAY AS TEXT BASED ON PLSQL,DOES NOT SAVE STATE as my display as I am declaring all variables with in this block.
Example of my PLSQL anonymous block
