Problems streaming QT videos via 3G network

I'm on an iPhone 3GS in mostly 5-bar kinds of locales. When I'm using AT&T's 3G network and surfing Safari, I frequently [try to] watch QuickTime videos on web pages. What I find is that the iPhone's Safari buffering works very poorly over 3G. The movies usually start fairly quickly, but then they stop once they're partway in, and fail to continue to buffer themselves, and at that point, it's not possible to fast-forward, rewind, start over, or anything. The videos are basically totally stuck.
Is this a known issue and are there any suggestions or workarounds? It's really disappointing to watch so many beginnings-of-movies and never be able to complete them since they all abruptly stop at random points.
The same issues don't seem to occur on the same iPhone while on a wifi network. Occasionally they do but it's much more robust.

The only real improvement there could be was if 3G could maintain the speed, however there are so many variables in that equation that it is difficult to do. Since 3G is cellular technology, it is subject to signal strength, number of users per tower, if you are moving, etc.
The only workaround that I could suggest would be to continue on wifi, and improvement could be more RAM on the phone to allow for more buffering at a time, and since you report using a 3GS, you have the most right now, and you also have the fastest processor. Can't think of anything else.

  • Streaming Live Video via RTMP

I'm trying to get streaming video to work in a test Captivate 7 project.
I'm streaming the video via Wirecast as a flash video, and I'm able to play it back via JW Player.  I'm using GoGrid (an Edgecast reseller) as a CDN.
Captivate won't play the video if I publish the video, and gives me a Failed to load the video file error.  I've tried a number of variations on the URL, and none have worked.
I know when I'm using JWPlayer, I have to set an RTMP subscribe value to true, so I'm not sure if that's the difficulty I'm having or what.

    HI,
Please check the following blog and see if it helps:

  • Problem streaming YouTube videos

I have 3 Macs: a Mini, an iMac and a MacBook Pro. My Mini is connected to a large screen tv. Sometimes, especially in the evenings from 7-10 pm, I get interruptions with YouTube video streaming on the Mini. I have no problems with either the iMac or the Pro. The Mini sits just a little to the front of the tv. Could the tv itself be interfering with the stream or is the problem something else. Any ideas on what could affect the streaming?

If you are using wifi to connect the Mini to the ethernet, it is probably getting a weaker connection than your other Macs.
Both the iMac and the MacBook Pro have stronger antennas than the Mini.
Sometimes making slight changes in the the Mini's placement can make a big difference in Wifi signal strength.
The Mini may also be farther from your router than the other Macs, which would impact signal strength via Wifi.
If you have the option of using ethernet cable to the Mini, that would give the best internet connection.

  • Problem with playing video via composite av cable on iPod classic 2009 model 160gb

Things went well, after  purchasing the new Ipod classic 160 gb i tryied to watch movies on my LED TV via Composite AV Cable.  I did it once. Everything worked correctly & I was able to see my photoes, watch movies.  Today i tryied to connect it again to the TV via av composite cable. The TV Out was switched on. But i could hear only audio. No video. I tryied all possible configs for Ipod an for tv set & no result. If i choose on my Ipod to ask me  first if i want to switch on the AV out, the Ipod shows me a message that i should connect the video accessory (but it  is already connected!). If i choose simply to switch on the TV Out without asking  me it will play either sound only on the TV, either the playback on the Ipod is ending after 20 seconds of show time.
Without AV Cable connected Ipod is working normaly in terms of video playback. Also the device is working normally with the ITunes.
Please help. Where is the problem. The AV composite cable? TV set? Or iPod itself?

  • Problems streaming Destinos videos once Airport Express installed

I just added an Airport Express and an Apple TV to my home iMac. (The Airport Express is my only "router".)
Everything works great except one problem.
I can no longer watch a series of 30-minutes lanuage videos (Destinos: http://learner.org/series/destinos/watch/index.html?ep6 ) on my iMac without restarting each video every 5 minutes and them jumping to the point it last froze to continue viewing the remainder of the video. Suggestions? It feels like some kind of buffering problem.

i have an airport express that was working fine
wirelessly with the green light sustained and
everything was fine until i had to put a password on
my wireless router to keep unauthorized users from
slowing down my connection. i am using a linksys
wireless-G router and once i installed a password the
airport express isn't recognized by the computer and
there is a yellow light blinking instead of a
sustained green light. how do i fix this problem?
Did you add a WEP password, if possible use a WPA password instead.
One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless.

  • Satellite A500/026: problems streaming/watch videos online

    Hi,
I wasnt sure where to ask for some help, so i figured id start here since i just purchased my Toshiba A500/026
basically im having problem watching/streaming videos online. doesnt matter the source of the video, youtube, megavideo, veoh. the problem is i have to wait for the whole video to load and then it starts playing. i cant watch it as it streams.
it doesnt tell me its loading, it just shows a black screen and then all of a sudden it will show that the bar is full and the video starts, now this is fine on short vids as it doesnt take long, but for movies it usually fails as they take too long to load so the site will usually come up with some error.
Now ive search on the web and i cant find this problem else where, ive checked that i have the latest abode flash installed and the debugging driver. i usually use firefox, but im getting the same problem on IE.
    any help would be approeciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
This is very strange and I never heared about such an issue.
What security software (Antivirus) have you installed? Maybe its blocking something or the firewall. You should disable it and try it again - Just for some tests. ;)
Do you run factory settings (preinstalled OS) or another Windows? Maybe you should try it with factory settings again

  • Problems importing VHS video via Canopus ADVC110

OK, I can't figure out how best to do this. I picked up a Canopus ADVC110 converter box to aid in digitizing a stack of VHS tapes. Yesterday I performed a short (1 minute) trial run and was unsatisfied with the results.
I imported the footage into iMovie '08, then tried burning a DVD of the clip iDVD. The result looked noticeably worse than the original tape. I'd settle for near quality, but this showed heavy compression, darker and grainier image, etc. I tried burning both "medium" and "large" versions that were sent to the Media Browser. Same result. I even tried exporting the project as a Quicktime DV stream and burning a DVD using Toast Titanium 9. No difference.
Now, the video preview inside iMovie seems to look OK, but then again it's hard to compare what I'm seeing there with the finished DVD video that I watch on my 13" television. I'm thinking that something is going haywire in the export and DVD-burning phase, though I may be way off on that one.
In any case, I'd love to hear from anyone who is attempting to do similar transfers and how they achieved the best-looking results. I'm merely trying to whittle down my collection of VHS tapes, but if the transfer quality can't be improved I'm kind of stuck...
Oh, I also own FCP Express 4, and am wondering if that might produce a better import? I have no idea.
Any advice or comments from past experience would be much appreciated.
    Thank you,
    David

I imported the footage into iMovie '08, then tried burning a DVD
Use iMovie 06 not iMovie 08.
For interlaced video such as DV and 1080i HDV, iMovie 08 now uses single-field processing. This means every other horizontal line of the video is thrown out, which reduces the sharpness of the footage.
If your primary workflow is editing DV clips and making DVDs, iMovie '06 is better suited. Your movie will arrive at iDVD in DV format, which is an ideal match for making a DVD: same resolution, same pixels aspect ratio, and original quality. If you share your movie from iMovie '08, it gets re-rendered at 640x480 or less, and then iDVD upscales it back to 720x480. The end result is obviously not as good.
iMovie 06 and iDVD 08 is the best combination. Use Professional Quality in iDVD 08.
When I use iMovie 06 and iDVD 08 I get excellent results.
I use the Canopus ADVC300 because it comes with a nice Macintosh application that works flawlessly with iMovie 06. The program that comes with the ADVC300 has some nice filters that can improve video and audio of the source material.
The Web site below has a good comparison of Apple video products.

  • Need help - chronic freezeups when playing streaming flashplayer videos.:

I am having a chronic problem with repeated freezeups of flashplayer videos that are being streamed online where the video repeatedly and randomly locks up for a moment, and then jumps forward to catch up to where it's supposed to be again and again, with no regularity or pattern to it at all.  It doesn't matter which video it is; it doesn't matter where along a video's playback it is; it doesn't matter which website it is.  This problem happens at any time of day, and every single day, at random, regardless.  I've tried everything including reinstalling my Windows 8.1 64-bit operating system from scratch, and then trying streaming flashplayer videos before reinstalling any other software again first - no help.  I tried streaming in Safe Mode; disabling all browser addons; disabling all startup executables; disabling my internet protection software entirely, each in turn - no help.  I always keep Flashplayer, Shockwave player, and Adobe Reader up to date, along with the rest of my PC via Microsoft Windows Update, and any other updates that apply, but I even tried older versions of drivers as well as the very newest ones - no help.  I tried streaming using different video cards - no help.  I tried using an ethernet connection and then a wireless one, separately in turn, as well as connecting to a different network - no help.  I also have Mozilla's Firefox browser installed and fully up to date - the exact same random, constant freezeup problem streaming flashplayer videos happens when using it as when using Internet Explorer.  These freezeups act like the incoming internet stream's feed runs ahead of flashplayer's memory management (rendering?) of it, causing these momentary freezeups while flashplayer buffers, and then jumps forward to catch up again each time.  Please contact me back and provide a corrected update(s) of flashplayer to download so as to play streaming flashplayer videos without this ongoing conflict.  Please note that video files that are downloaded/installed on my hard drive do NOT have playback problems of any kind.  This is only an online streaming problem with flashplayer.  Thank you.

  • Mid 2011 mbp i7 with a SSD has problems, including grey screen/blue screen/beeping/freezing when I stream live video (i.e. watch espn or time warner cable) Help? Ideas?

Recently my Macbook Pro (June 2011, i7, 8gb RAM, 512gb SSD, AMD Radeon 6750, Mountain Lion - since July - currently 10.8.2) has been presenting me with an array of problems, usually initiated when I am streaming live video. I was streaming Time Warner Cable on 12/9 and it gave me what looked like the blue screen of death.  It started up after about five attempts that time. The other day, after about a week of not using the computer, it wouldn't boot past the grey screen. I (option) started it and it gave me two boot choices, the regular HD and a "10.8 restore" option.  The HD gave me the grey screen and the restore option gave me the dark blue screen. I reset PRAM and that didn't work.  After a force (x) start it worked.  Today, I was using "Watch ESPN" and the screen froze and the computer did some kind of repeating RAM beep or something.  I rebooted and it started up fine.  I'm not watching any videos anymore, but this is a problem since the primary purpose for my mbp is video editing. I'm still under AppleCare but I find more solid answers in the forums or at least better questions for the AppleCare people.
Anybody have similar experiences, or a solid idea of what the heck has happened to my machine?

I'm not really sure what method that person was talking about. I just read he had a successful install so I posted it.
    But I'll hazard a guess
    1. copy your entire drive to a backup drive
    2. boot into that drive and test it out - make sure its a flawless backup, it works, and the hard drive has no problems
    3. eject that drive, disconnect it and reboot into the leopard install dvd
    4. erase your main hard drive using disc utilities on the leopard install dvd -- you've made a backup, made sure that backup was good, and disconnected it so it's currently safely disconnected from the leopard install you're about to do. Also, on the hard drive you're erasing and installing leopard on to, many people recommend "Zeroing" it as well as erasing it. That option is part of the erase function in disc utilities on the leopard install disc.
    5. do a clean install of leopard
    6. follow step 4 from that original post exactly as that person described to do.
    7. read the rest of what they said
That's pretty much it. With the backup/erase/clean install/import/ you pretty much get everything you need exactly the way you want it with very few things missing -- and you've done this over a clean install. Plus that poster did mention that you can select what you want to import from your backup hard drive.
It sounds like its a "clean install" method that gives you control via "import from machine" option in the installer. Control over what parts of your "old mac" you want to import into your "new leopard mac".
Hopefully that helps. It sounds more involved, but its actually pretty quick and provides you with a perfectly save backup in case anything goes wrong with the leopard install.

  • Problem streaming HD Movies to Apple TV through home network

Got my new Apple TV yesterday but has some quirks. The biggest one is I'm in the middle of watching an iTunes HD movie I own -- streaming it to my Apple TV on my home network -- and the video starts stuttering halfway through the movie. It was playing with no sound, the video was jumpy, etc.
I stopped the movie, unplugged the Apple TV, tried playing the movie again -- I did this a couple of times -- and same result. This issue didn't happen until about an hour into the movie -- for the first hour of the show it played perfectly. Just before the movie, I'd watched an HD TV show I downloaded from iTunes earlier in the day, and was streaming this to my new Apple TV over the home network, and it played fine.
The other issue I'm seeing is it takes a looooooooooong time to load my iTunes Library from my computer. I selected my shared library, and then it takes about five times (or more) as long to load the list of movies compared to my older Apple TV (the previous generation 160GB hard drive model).
Is anyone else seeing these issues, and is there a fix?

I am having the same problem streaming HD anything, Movies or TV shows. It seems to try to buffer more of the video than when using SD video anything. When playing SD anything, it seems to start playing very soon after pressing play.
My content is on a spring 2009 iMac

  • Problem with tutorial:Creating a dynamic playlist for streaming flash video

hi, anyone tried the tutorial: creating a dynamic playlist
    for streaming flash video?
i follow the instruction exactly as stated in the tutorial
and test the fla file, it worked perfectly well when i open the swf
using the macromedia flash 8. Everything look fine. Nothing is
changed except the url is changed to "rtmp://localhost/videosource"
    in the xml file.
after i publish the file using the setting: access network
only, i try to open the swf and html file from the folder, the
thumbnail did not appear and there is no way i can click on any
videos. What i see is only the list, and there is no response from
the flash media server 2. All the files is in the same folder.
Anyone please help with this problem???? thanks

....i debug the movie step by step
and realised that the xml file is being read by the code...
Your original problem stated it worked but not when playing
    outside the
Flash authoring environment by simply loading the swf from
    the hard drive.
The Flash authoring environment is a trusted environment and
    so you really
need to test in the actual deployment mode which loading an
    swf from the
hard drive is not a valid deployment unless an installed
    Flash player is
available outside the web browser which you would have as you
    have the
authoring tool and your users will not.
    Use a browser with
    http://yourdomain.com/yourmovie.html
    to do final
    debugging.
In this regard you may need to debug the movie while running
    in real time
mode in a web browser with
http:// A technique to trace I suggested is to
create a temporary TextField perhaps named out_txt and send
    trace message to
it such as out_txt.text += "My Trace Expression".

  • Choppy video streaming from samba on wireless network

    Hey all,
I have a macbook pro with leopard 10.5.7 installed. The server setup is a Linux server running samba which is wired to a wireless router. I connect my macbook pro wirelessly to the router. Everything is all set up; my computer can connect to the server and browse the files without a problem. However, when I try to watch videos stored on my server through samba, the video is extremely choppy and practically unwatchable. I know this is a wireless problem with my macbook pro because my windows desktop has no problems at all watching videos over the wireless connection and when I wire the laptop directly to the router, the video streams just fine i.e, no choppiness. I have browsed the fourms and the internet but no solution has come up yet. I was hoping someone here might have a solution.
    Thanks,
    schne1derman

Thank God! I thought I was the only one having this problem.
I also have a Ubuntu box with all my movies and I stream videos wirelessly from it to my macbook using XBMC (ubuntu) and Plex (mac). At first I thought the problem was the wireless G speeds from my previous router so I bought an Airport Extreme Base Station and connected it via ethernet to my existing ADSL/Wireless router on a bridge configuration. Both ubuntu and macbook are now connected at 300Mbps but I'm still experiencing occasional choppy video. The wireless connection stays up at all times so it's not a wireless connectivity issue.
I tried NFS but the problem persisted. I also installed Windows 7 RC on my bootcamp partition and had the exact same problem. Which means it can be an issue with the Airport on the macbook. I don't have another computer with Windows so I cannot say if it would work better on a PC.
At first I suspected the problem was with ubuntu so I posted this on the ubuntu forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7324538
As you can see on the description I was getting those messages on the mac logs:
26/05/09 6:02:19 PM KernelEventAgent[198] tid 00000000 type 'smbfs', mounted on '/Volumes/MediaCenter', from '//ed@ed-linux/MediaCenter', not responding
    26/05/09 6:02:19 PM KernelEventAgent[198] tid 00000000 found 1 filesystem(s) with problem(s)
    26/05/09 6:02:19 PM loginwindow[197] 1 server now unresponsive
At first I thought it was a problem with the arp tables on the mac. I created a static entry for my ubuntu box. Now the connection is better and the samba volume doesn't disconnect as often and when it does, it reconnects after a while. Before the arp table static entry I had to reconnect manually:
26/05/09 6:02:32 PM kernel smbiodreconnect: Reconnected to ed-linux
One other thing to add. Before installing 10.5.7 (i.e running 10.5.6), I had this problem and the video used to get frozen (samba share disconnection) once or twice on a 1 hour video and reconnected 15 to 20 seconds right after it. Not a big deal. Now it happens several times (5 or 6 times on a 30 minute video) and it takes around 30 to 40 seconds to reconnect.
