Problems Using Crystal Reports 2008 sample reports in CR2008 Basic
I just downloaded Crystal Reports 2008 sample reports from
[Service Packs, Hot Fixes, Samples, and Utilities|http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000714768&_SCENARIO=01100035870000000202&] to use them with CR2008 Basic. I have trouble using them . It tries to connect to to a website to download an xml file. Has anyone tried these sample reports in CR2008 Basic ?
From the portal you have mentioned, I had downloaded, "Crystal Reports 2008 sample reports - Demonstration" (demo_smpl.zip) which had three reports - Comparative Income Statement.rpt, Order Processing Efficiency Dashboard.rpt, World Sales Report.rpt.
These reports work fine for me.

Problem using Crystal Reports 2008 with DB/C FS ODBC Datasource.
HI,
I'm trying to use Crystal Reports 2008 to connect to an ODBC datasource that using the DB/C FS driver from dbcsoftware (www.dbcsoftware.com). When I connect to the source and add a table it shows all string fields as 255 characters long when that is not the case in the data definition for the driver.
This issue has been brought up and resolved in previous versions of Crystal Reports. In Crystal Reports XI it was ADAPT ticket 00307997. It's worth noting that even though this issue says it was resolved in version XI with service pack 4 I still experience it in that version of CR as well.
If anyone has a solution to this for Crystal Reports 2008 please share.
Thank you,
David GuthuHi David,
Looking over the Adapt it was fixed in CR XI R2 Service Pack 4. CR XI is not the same so not sure if this is a typo or not.
I don't see a branch for CR 2008 so I'll create one for you but this may be a different issue. The adapt was for all fields coming back as 65K and not 255. Also this was tracked in 2004 and fixes created for all versions of Cr at the time. These fixes get rolled forward so I'm thinking FS changed their driver with their latest build or at some earlier build.
Note from Developer:
DBCFS ODBC driver return meta data (e.g. column type) as SQL_DOUBLE instead of SQL_NUMERIC.
ODBC bind as SQL_DOUBLE or SQL_NUMERIC but always retrieve data (in this case column type) as SQL_NUMERIC.
Have you contacted FS to see if they have any patches or updates available? Are they following ANSII 92 Standards?
To build a business case for this issue can you purchase a single support case, once it's been resolved you can get a refund, the reason being it adds more weight to the issue and we can escalate it at a higher level. Otherwise it goes in as a low priority issue and no fix date set.
Also, we can then pass files back and forth etc. which we can not do through forums.
Can you turn on ODBC tracing? I would like to see what the trace file shows.
Thank you

Using Crystal Reports 2008 standalone to edit CR basic reports?
Can I use a stand-alone Crystal Reports 2008 to edit reports created with Crystal reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008?
On this project I am working with other developers who don't want to install the full CR 2008 and I really need to to use full CR 2008 to be able to edit a few things in reports I can't do with CR basic in Visual Studio (like changing colors for bars in charts which you can't edit in VS).
I also don't want to use the CR 2008 runtime for running the application, just the runtime which comes with VS 2008.
Is it safe to edit a report in CR 2008 and then use it within Visual Studio (assuming I don't add any CR 2008 specific functions)?
I made a test and installed CR 2008 but without installing the .NET options (however only 1.1 and 2.0 was listed I guess I need to install SP0 to get VS 2008 support anyway). I could change colors for bars etc and save it and open it again in VS 2008. VS complained about
The full CR designer is also much better to work with so if I can use full CR 2008 without affecting my VS application that would be nice (I guess installing the .NET components would force the use of CR 2008 runtime assemblies).
Also another question:
When you use datasets as datasource and use the preview in VS it will use some fake data. But in CR 2008 stand-alone you don't get any data at all. Is there a way to do the same with full CR?Hi Magnus,
You can use CR 2008 to edit reports but there are warnings. .NET version of CR is 10.5, based on the CR version 10 functionality. CR 2008 has much more functionality so as long as you don't add any features of CR 2008 to the reports then it should work. But it is recommended that you use the same version for functionality and 100% compatability.
Yes you do need SP0 installed.
You should also upgrade to CR 2008 Developer then you can use the full SDK functionality within .NET and be able to support all the latest OS platforms.
Please post a separate question for your database question. Use one posting for each question, if not the posts tend to get messy.
Thank you

Crystal Reports 2008 crashes in Visual Studios Basic 2008
I have Visual Studio 2008 Basic with Crystal Reports 2008 (Full) running on Windows 7 Pro - 64-Bit. I am running VS in visual basic runtime and I encounter this problem very frequently, however not all the time.
What appears to be happening is when I have any one of my 11 solutions open and I try to open a crystal report, Visual Studio says that it has encountered a problem and needs to restart. This happens whether I am running the program as and administrator or not. After VS restartes and I open my solution again, I attempt to open the same report and it opens without crashing.
This seems to be a direct problem with Windows 7 and crystal reports, because I never had this problem while developing these solution in Windows XP.
~PaulMake sure you have applied Visual Studio 2008 SP1.
Make sure you have Crystal Reports 2008 SP2 applied (unless you are using datasets with date time fields, then apply SP1).
SP 1 is here;

Problem using webcache with pure jsp report
Hello,
I am not sure if this is the right forum because my problem affects to 3 products
(reports, portal + webcache)
I need to cache a pure oracle reports jsp report.
I included some reports in portal reports security (Portal -> Builder -> Administer -> Reports Security)
http://is.domain:7778/pls/portal/PORTAL.REP_NAME.show
This report is secured and only accessible for granted persons over portal.
Now I also want to cache those reports using webcache.
But there is a problem. As soon as this report is cached, there is no security anymore.
The former secured report is accessible to every user who knows the URL as long the report is in webcache.
There seems to be no SSO Check anymore.
But this check is necessary.
How is it possible to cache this pure jsp report and also have SSO feature as every portal page ?
Regards,
FrankHi Frank,
You may want to contact Oracle Support for detailed configuration procedures on this.
In a nutshell, Reports provides some level of default caching. You can take advantage of that. The Reports Administrator's Guide provides some info on that.

Visual Studio 2008 Toolbox - i can use crystal reposts 2008
Hi
I have a strange problem. I reintall my machine with a new copy of windows vista 32 bits, then I install the visual studio 2008 Pro (not install de crystal reports basic). Then I install de crystal reports 2008.
In the vs2008 toolbox donu2019t appears the icon to use de crystal reports view. I try to add this items from de list (.net frameworks components) but they are no there. I try view in de c:\windows\assembly in they are there.
I can I put in the vs2008 ?
Thanks
Jorge RochaHi Jorge
It seems that you are having issue with Visual Studio .Net.
Post your question in :Crystal Reports and Xcelsius » .NET Development - Crystal Reports.
That forum is monitored by qualified technicians and you will get a faster response there. Also, all .NET SDK queries remain in one place and thus can be easily searched in one place.
Thanks

I've posted this to the SCCM 2012 forum and only received one response so far that states that this is a known issue that has been discussed before and isn't easy to fix; I was not given any actual solution either. Since this involves SSRS I
thought I would try my luck here as well.
I'm having almost exactly the same problem as is referenced in this article: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/uk/sqlreportingservices/thread/587a3319-bc54-4d30-bb3f-bb90a0c6ec50. When
I try to run either of these reports (Computers with specific software registered in Add Remove Programs; Count of instances of specific software registered with Add or Remove Programs) I receive the XML error shown in the attached screenshot. I'm fairly
sure the problem is the same as the other admin was experiencing and I just need to remove the unprintable characters (of the application name) from the dbo.v_Add_Remove_Program column.
The error references 0xFFFF but I could not find what that exactly translates too, other than it appears to be at the end of the spectrum for Unicode characters. I used the following sql query to search for the 0xFFFF entry, but no results were found:
use CM_UV2
Select distinct
CHARINDEX(cast(0xFFFF as varchar(1)),DisplayName0),
DisplayName0
from
dbo.v_Add_Remove_Programs
Where
CHARINDEX(cast(0xFFFF as varchar(1)),DisplayName0) > 0
When I used the original hex value of 0x28 I get plenty of results returned with "(" in them so the query seems sound. One of the articles I was searching mentioned running the query manually using the Management Studio and looking for strange characters
there but I'm not sure how to do that.
Basically I just need help finding the offending character and removing it. I also need to be able to replicate this for other strings as this looks like an error that will reoccur whenever any new software appears that has weird encoding in the title.
Thank you in advance for any help given.
Über RandomHi Uber,
This is a known issue that error occurs when running report "Count of instances of specific software registered with Add or Remove Programs" due to non-printable characters for XML. Based on internal research, the hotfix for this issue will be
included in the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Service Pack 1.
As a workaround, you can remove the nonprintable character populated into the report parameter by referring to the following KB article:
http://support.microsoft.com/KB/914159
Hope this helps.

Problem Using Check Box in a Report
Hi all,
I have a simple SQL report with a check box.The problem is when paginating forward and backward in the report(Next and Previous),The report region is refreshed and all the check boxes is reset to unchecked.
P.S: I'm using APEX 4.0.
Any Help will be appreciated,
OlaOla,
If you search the forum, you will find lot of discussions on this issue..
In nutshell, solution is -
Case 1: If you have enabled partial refresh for your report ( pagination works through AJAX)
Then
a. onClick of any check-box, call JS function, lets say fnSaveState(this);
b. In JS function, update/store all the checked check-boxes info in JS variable or array.
c. Bind a JS function, lets say fnSetState() - which will set the check boxes to either checked or un-checked based on JS variable/array value(s) to pagination onClick event.
Case 2: If you have not enabled partial refresh for your report
Then
a. onClick of any check-box, call JS function, lets say fnSaveState(this);
b. In JS function, store the check-box status in any hidden_item and insert its value into session with dummy AJAX call.
c. On page load call JS function, lets say fnSetState() - which will set the check boxes to either checked or un-checked based on hidden item value(s) .
Hope it helps.

Crystal Report 2008 - Save Report with Data
I saved a Crystal report with data in Dev Environment on BOE Server (Infoview Folder) and this is transported to Quality Environment. In the quality environment, when I try to view this report, initial screen comes up with data of Development, instead of Quality environment.
I am expecting that it will load the default data from Quality environment for the stored selection.
Is there any settings to be done in the report settings, so that i can view the saved report in Quality Environment with Quality Env data instead of Dev Env Data? Thanks Don for the reply.
In case, If we save the report with data in Dev, we need to update DB configuration to point to Quality Env using "Use Custom databse Logon Information".
But when it gets transported to production (From Quality), it will show up Quality Envdata. So should i have to update the BOE in Q Environment, to point to Production and transport it?
Is there any automated way that the system will point to right systems appropriately based on transport landscape?
Does the functionality of "Save the report with data" used mainly for user friendliness for analysis in one environment and this functionality is not supported to move between environments?

How to create YTD and MTD reports using Sql Server 2008 r2 report builder 3.0
Hi All,
How can I create YTD report from the below data. please help me
ProdA ProdB ProdC Month Year
10 50 40 January 2012
Data for full Year i.e. from Jan - December 2012
50 90 100 January 2013
Data for full Year i.e. from Jan - December 2013
90 40 30 January 2014
Data for full Year i.e. from Jan - Till Date 2014
MercuryManYou can use a correlated subquery to calculate YTD in query behind. You can use APPLY operator for that
so something like
SELECT *
FROM Table t1
CROSS APPLY (SELECT SUM(ProdA) AS TotA,SM(prodB) AS TotB,SUM(prodC) AS TotC
FROM Table
WHERE Year = t.Year)t1
And show TotA,TotB and TotC in the required total row
Another method is to add required totals in SSRS by clicking on relevant group and choosing Add Total option
Please Mark This As Answer if it helps to solve the issue Visakh ---------------------------- http://visakhm.blogspot.com/ https://www.facebook.com/VmBlogs -

Printing Extremely Slow Using Crystal Reports 2008 ActiveX Print Control
Problem:
We are trying to upgrade our existing Crystal Reports 10.0 ActiveX Viewer ASP based reports to the new Crystal Reports 2008 ASPX Report Viewer but are having print performance issues that have prohibited us from moving forward.
Environment:
Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition 32-bit with SP1
IIS 6.0 running ASP .NET version 2.0.50727
Crystal Reports 2008 SP0 with FP1
Crystal PrintControl.dll version 12.0.0.796 (verified on server and client)
Details:
Crystal Reports 2008 ASPX Report Viewer Object & ActiveX Print Control Report Printing Scenario
From a typical 27 page report, the user clicks the Print icon from the ASPX Report Viewer Object.
The Print window with the message Crystal Reports Print Control immediately appears on the screen. This window is on the screen for approx 30 seconds.
The Print Setup window finally appears on the screen. The user verifies the printer, chooses to print pages 1-5, and clicks the Print button from the window.
The Retrieving page 1 message appears in the Print window. The message remains in the window for approx 30 seconds.
The Printing page 1 message appears in the Print window. The message remains in the window for approx 30 seconds.
The Printing page 2 message appears in the Print window. The message remains in the window for approx 30 seconds.
The Printing page 3 message appears in the Print window. The message remains in the window for approx 30 seconds.
The Printing page 4 message appears in the Print window. The message remains in the window for approx 30 seconds.
The Printing page 5 message appears in the Print window. The message is in the window for less than 1 second.
After 3 MINUTES of waiting the report finally starts printing.
Crystal Reports 10 ASP ActiveX Report Viewer Report Printing Scenario
From the same typical 27 page report that was used in the Crystal Reports 2008 scenario, the user clicks the Print icon from the ASP ActiveX Report Viewer.
The Print window Immediately appears on the screen. The user verifies the printer, chooses to print pages 1-5, and clicks the Print button from the window.
The Print window Immediately disappears from the screen and the report Immediately starts printing.
The entire print process takes only 3 u2013 4 SECONDS.
Even though we are trying to get the users to decrease the amount of paper used in report printing. They still do a significant amount of printing. The difference between the print performance using Crystal Reports 10 (3-4 seconds) and Crystal Reports 2008 (3 minutes) is totally unacceptable to our users.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there a known fix for it? This is the only thing holding us back from our upgrade and it has become very frustrating to us.
Much thanks to anyone that can shed some light on this.Hi Brian,
Please have a look at [this|Crystal 11.5 Activex control for viewer; post.
However, have you tried with the No Printer options available in Print Options window from designer?

Need alternative for activex print control using Crystal reports 2008
I have created a .Net web application (2.0/3.5 .Net framework) with crystal reports 2008.
Reports are viewed using Crystal reports 2008 activex viewer.
On click of PRINT icon in activex viewer, activex print control download prompt will be displayed on client machine.
I need to avoid downloading of activex print control on client machine. Is there any other alternative or option to use print functionality in viewer without downloading activex print control on client machine?
Or Is there any other workaround for print functionality in Crystal reports 2008 Viewer without downloading activex print control?
Note: Activex print control download prompt will not be displayed when using Crystal reprots XI Release 2 version.
Thanks,
JagannathDoes anyone know which files need to be registered for the ActiveX print control? We occasionally have users who somehow break their Crystal ActiveX controls, and they can no longer see the print options. In Crystal 10, I was able to fix these issues by pushing a package which registered several files on the user's computer.

Some reports do not work after upgraded to Crystal Report 2008
Hi All,
After upgraed from Crystal Report XI to Crystal Report 2008, some reports work fine. others not. All of the not-working reports have the same problem: Database connection failed.
And I can even not be able to create a brand new report. The problem looks like following:
1. Created a new ASP.NET solution in Visual Studio 2008. The page file is default.aspx
2. Created an empty Crystal Report file: CrystalReportTEST.rpt
3. Asign CrystalReportTEST.rpt to default.aspx
4. Run default.aspx. It works fine
5. Just connect to database without place any field to the report
6. Run default.aspx again. It does not work. It shows blank screen with the message "Database logon failed." on the top-left corner.
Regards,
TripleHi Amit,
I have tested many times again for creating new report in new solution. It looks like that, the preview in VS2008 always work fine, but when runing the application, sometimes it works sometimes does not work. I have not still found the role. Following step shows my testing process:
1. Start Visual Studio 2008
2. Go to menu "File->New->Web Site..."
3. In dialogbox "New Web Site"
a. Highlight "ASP.NET Crystal Reports Web Site"
b. Select location "File System"
c. Select language "Visual C#"
d. Select "E:\JL\CrystalReportsWebSite1"
e. Click button "OK"
4. It appears dialogbox "Crystal Reports Gallery"
a. Select "Using the Report Wizard" in portion of "Create a New Crystal Report Document"
b. Select "Standard" in portion of "Choose an Expert"
c. Click button "OK"
5. It appears dialogbox "Standard Report Creation Wizard"
a. Click button "Cancel"
6. It is back to page edit view of "CrystalReport1.rpt"
7. Click button "Main Report Preview". It shows the preview with blank page
8. Click button "Main Report". It came back to the edit view
9. Go to menu "Crystal Reports -> Database -> Database Expert...", dialogbox "Database Expert" appears. Select table u201Cactivity_cdu201D as showing in following screen shot:
10. Click button u201COKu201D. It returns to the edit view without any changes
11. Place some fields into the report, then click button "Main Report Preview". It shows the preview with data
12. Run application by pressing key F5 or key combinition Ctrl+F5, it shows up database connection import screen
13. Close the browser and back to file Default.aspx, change u201CEnableDatabaseLogonPromptu201D to u201DFalseu201D and run the application again, it shows following message "Database logon failed."
