Crystal Reports 2008 crashes in Visual Studios Basic 2008

I have Visual Studio 2008 Basic with Crystal Reports 2008 (Full) running on Windows 7 Pro - 64-Bit. I am running VS in visual basic runtime and I encounter this problem very frequently, however not all the time.
What appears to be happening is when I have any one of my 11 solutions open and I try to open a crystal report, Visual Studio says that it has encountered a problem and needs to restart. This happens whether I am running the program as and administrator or not. After VS restartes and I open my solution again, I attempt to open the same report and it opens without crashing.
This seems to be a direct problem with Windows 7 and crystal reports, because I never had this problem while developing these solution in Windows XP.

Make sure you have applied Visual Studio 2008 SP1.
Make sure you have Crystal Reports 2008 SP2 applied (unless you are using datasets with date time fields, then apply SP1).
SP 1 is here;

  • Crystal Report X1 compatibility with Visual Studio 2008

We are migrating an application running on .NET 1.0 to .NET 3.5. Previously Crystal report X1 was working fine with .NET 1.0 however now when it has been migrated to .NET 3.5, we are able to generate crystal report but print and export functionality is not working.
Please confirm if Crystal report X1 is compatible with Visual studio 2008/.NET 3.5? We even updated Release 2 SP4 patch but that didn't solve the problem.
If crystal report X1 is not compatible with Visual studio 2008, which version is compatible so that we can buy the license for the same?

  • Crystal report with chart und Visual studio 2008

    Hi, I have a question.
It is possible to affect a dynamic Title of a chart in Crystal Report.
I want to use the same Report to make different report and I want to know if we can affect the Text property of the Chart with the code-behind from Visual Studio.
    Thanks for your response

I don't believe it's possible to programatically change the text boxes of a chart, but you could delete the title and use a formula in it's place.

  • Running version of Crystal Reports bunded in MS Visual Studio on web farm

    Hello,
I did a search before posting this and could not find where someone had posted the question previously, but I apologize in advance if it is redundant to something already asked and answered.
I am part of a sysadmin organization, and some of the developers we host on our servers came to us asking to put the free version of the Crystal Reports DLL that comes bundled  with Visual Studio on our IIS web farm servers.
We looked at the doco on the MS site regarding this, and in the licensing section we found reference to, as best we can interpret it, not using the free bundled version in a web farm to try to overcome the default 5 user limit.  At least that is our understanding of the text we saw at MS' site.
MS refers support questions to Business Objects, thus I am posting this question to find out if it is legitimate or not to use the free Crystal Reports object our developers got from MS on a multiple server IIS web farm.
Basically, we want to stay legitimate as far as software on our servers.
Secondly, as we understand the doco, there is only web forum support for the free tool, so if our developers have a production issue and come to us, our only recourse will be to post a question here?
Thank you in advance for your answers and clarification.   Have  a great day!

    Hello John,
I found this bundled Crystal Reports licensing link on MSDN - [Licensing and support for Crystal Reports for Visual Studio|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317789]. As you'll see, this kbase article says that the bundle editions of Crystal Reports are not licensed for use with web farms.
If you have other support issues and you can not find answers on these forums you can purchase a support contract or an individual support case. You can purchase a single case from the [Online Store|http://store.businessobjects.com/store/bobjamer/DisplayProductByTypePage&parentCategoryID=&categoryID=11522300]. Or in the US you can call the Sales team at 1-800-877-2340, Option 2. They can assist with support contract questions, and I believe they can assist with single case purchase questions.
    Sincerely,

  • Crystal Report Dll problem with Visual Studio 2005

I am using Crystal Reports with Visual Studio 2005. At one time there were two different version of Crystal Decision Dll in Global Assembly Cache (GAC). So I uninstalled both the versions and then only installed 10.2.3600.
I am facing the following error when building my application in visual studio.
    The type 'CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument' exists in both 'c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files\arms website\301a5b02\e03ad7d9\assembly\dl3\c30f5560\00f92427_3857ca01\CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.DLL'
    and
    'c:\WINDOWS\assembly\GAC_MSIL\CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine\10.2.3600.0__692fbea5521e1304\CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.dll'
I have only installed it in .Net Framework. For some reason it appears in the temp folder. I cannot delete it and when I renamed it after the next compile it came back again.
    I would appreciate any help.

    Thanks for the tip.
    I installed CR XI R2 with SP2 and 2.1
There are few reports in the system they use to run fine but now when I try to run them I get the following error:
Failed to open the connection. Details: [Database Vendor Code: 4060 ] Failed to open the connection. C:\DOCUME1\SSheikh\LOCALS1\Temp\ZGA370 {71BFCD35-F652-48C8-896D-B93229A4D2C2}.rpt Details: [Database Vendor Code: 4060 ]
I understand that these reports run ok independently and on production machine as well; however when I try to run them from my development machine I get the above error.
I would appreciate help to resolve this. The code of the report is with report developer and I need to know what settings do I need to change where to be able to run the reports. Also I use my machine for deployment of application on the production server.
    Thanks.

  • Crystal Report errors when installing visual studio 2010 app

I'm trying to install a Visual Studio 2010 application on two client's machines and I get a different error on each one.  Both errors point to Crystal Reports.
I have a feeling that I'm supposed to install something on the client's machines but I'm not sure what.
The first client's error says that CrystalDecisions.Windows.Form Version 13.0.2000.0 cannot be loaded.
The second client's error says that FlashControlV71. Version 1.0.3187.32366 needs to be installed in the GAC.
What am I supposed to install on the client's machines?  Or if that's not the problem, what is causing the errors?
This is my first visual studio app so I'm a complete newbie.
Thanks for any help or advice.

Thanks for your reply.  I installed the runtime (x64) and am now getting a new error on the first client's machine.  I think it's telling me that I installed the wrong version of the runtime.  The client is running x64t Win 7 so I chose the x64 runtime to install.

  • How open a report with Viewer 2008 without using Visual Studio and Java

    Hi,
There is a way to open a report (with parameters) save in a web server with Crystal Report Viewer 2008 without using Visual Studio or Java ?
I've an asp page and i want to open this report using some command (I know asp, vbscript and html)
In the past it was very easy because we use CR 9, but now it's already many days im looking for a solution but seem impossible.
I know the craxdrt.dll is not included with Crystal Reports 2008.
It seem me i can use OpenDocument, but i'm not sure. Someone has some easy example to help me ?
Remember i have only Crystal report viewer 2008 on the server and on the clients.
    Thanks in advance

If you are looking to create a web application or view report through a web server using only Crystal Reports then you do have to either use Java, or .NET.
If you have Crystal Reports server or Business Objects Enterprise you can use OpenDocument to view managed reports but this does require one of our server products.

  • Crystal Reports XI crashes says "Crystal Reports has stopped working"

I'm on Crystal Reports Xi release 2 sp2, with windows 7, I also have visual studio 2008 installed.
When I try to add any fields or objects to a report in crystal reports it crashes and throws up a windows generic error message that says "Crystal Reports has stopped working"  There is no additional error information besides that...  I've tried a number of fixes, too many to list here, but no go, and apparently calling for tech support requires me to pay more money! ack.  We've already paid for the product, I just want to use it..
Does this version of crystal reports even work on windows 7?  if I could get a straight answer on that it would be a start anyway...
Sorry to be snippy, I'm just frustrated!!!

Upgrading to SP6 solved the issue.  I originally thought sp4 was the newest because of this page: http://resources.businessobjects.com/support/additional_downloads/service_packs/crystal_reports_en.asp
    which is out of date...
    Thanks for the quick fix.

Also, see this ARTICLE from the Tips & Tricks sub-forum, for things to look at with crashes and hangs. It covers the hardware, the OS and the software, and offers links for tuning up the system, and getting it ready for video editing. I know that there is a lot of material in there, but Neale has done a great job of putting things into a checklist, and offering links to other material.
That rec. is for use along with John T's links, which are a bit more specific to your burned DVD's.

  • How to do regstration of Visual studio express 2008

Hi I have some supporting Development tools, which run on the 2008 platform. I on my new PC installed the visual studio Express 2008, but after month its blocked by missing registration. When I follow the registration link, the site is closed. SO how can
I get the visual studio Express 2008 back in operation

Visual C++ 2008 Express is no longer supported. You really should consider a newer version. Bear in mind that Visual Studio 2013 Community Edition is free, and contains way more features than your version.
However if you need the 2008 version apparently if you download the ISO version of Visual C++ 2008 Express, you don't need to register. Try these links:
    Just VS 2008 Express

  • Employee photo is causing one of our crystal reports to crash

    Good Afternoon,
I'm currently using Crystal report engine version 9.2.3.884 as part of a Peoplesoft package.
I have created a new report using the PeopleSoft crystal ODBC driver delivered within the package.
One of the field retrieved contains the employee photo defined in Oracle DB as a BLOB field.
When I drag and drop the employee photo into the report, it crashes the application.
I've first checked if the photo was corrupted using JPEGsnoop.exe. The photo used is not corrupted.
After running a couple of tests I have found a workaround.
Take a print screen of the employee photo using snag it tool, copy it into MSPaint, save the photo with the same name, load the new version into oracle and drag the photo into my crystal report.
This new picture didn't crash the application.
In order to make sure that the issue was not due to the PeopleSoft ODBC driver, I ran the same test using the Oracle ODBC driver. It returned the same result.
I would like to understand why the original picture is causing my crystal report to crash.
Is there any existing fix related to this issue? Otherwise I would like to know how to report this issue to crystal report developers?
If you want some more detailed information (the employee photo I'm using) please let me know.
Thanks in advance for your support,
    Best Regards.

    Hi Sean,
Thanks a lot for your reply.
That's right it could be related to memory usage. I have already got this issue before, but the message is different. When I'm running my crashing test, I'm dealing with one photo only (6 Ko JPG format).
When I take a print screen of the photo causing my crystal report to crash, save it as the same format JPG using MS Paint, load it into oracle blob table and re-run the report using the new photo it works perfectly fine.
Prior to this I made sure that the photo was not corrupted using JPEGsnoop.exe.
If you want to I can give you the two JPG samples I'm using and a detailed explanation of the manipulation I'm doing.
    Thanks,
    Best Regards.

  • Using MS Visual Studio C++ 2008 Express, the "LoadLibrary" function doesn't recognize the NI-VISA DLL: "visa32.dll". I've included all the paths to the DLL. Is there a problem with this C++ compiler?

I'm using MS Visual Studio C++ 2008 Express.  I've included all the paths to the DLL, "visa32.dll" but the LoadLibrary("visa32.dll") call returns the statement that can't convert character string to LPCSTR (pointer).  I ran the same code with the Portland Group compiler (which I no longer have) and there was not a problem accessing the DLL.  Is there some requirement for the C++ 2008 Express compiler that needs to be met?

    Hello jterry,
If you compile as Unicode you need to pass Unicode strings to
Win32 APIs which have LPTSTR or LPWSTR string.
When you want to write code compilable for Unicode
and Ansi just enclose all string constants in _T(). In your case:
    LoadLibrary(_T("visa32.dll"))
You can look at this post on the microsoft discussion forums for more information.  Have a great day.

  • Visual Studio 2005/2008 and Crystal Reports versions/upgrade questions.

I've tried posting this question on the MSDN forums and gotten no response.
I've downloaded and installed VS 2008 Beta 2.   The versions on the Crystal Reports files included are 10.5.0.1806
I'm currently using VS 2005, with the included Crystal Reports.  The versions on those files are 10.2.0.xxxx.  I've created an desktop app (in VB) which stores it's data in a database and uses the CR 10 runtime merge modules to generate a report.
I was considering upgrading the Crystal Reports version to XI.  I would like to allow customers to modify my delivered report with their own licensed copy of CR XI.  I am not providing any functionality within my app to create or modify the delivered .rpt or use it outside my application.
    Questions:
Do I need to update the runtime files to CR XI to support rpt files modified with CR XI?  Current runtime files are being delivered with the CR 10 merge module.
I see a Crystal Reports for Visual Studio upgrade to CR XI.
Can I update the merge modules to CR XI and still use the CR for VS2005 for development?
Does it make any sense to update CR for VS 2005?  Or to get the full CR XI Developer edition?  My usage of CR functionality is very limited.
Would there be any benefit to waiting for the release of VS 2008?   How does that change the scenario?
How does Crystal Reports for Visual Studio fit in with the Crystal Reports Lifecycle?  It's not mentioned on Business Objects End of Life Dates page . Crystal 10 has a Patch EOL of 31-Dec-07.   Does this apply to CR for VS 2005?  Where does 10.5 fit in?
My main concern is allowing customers with CR XI to change the format of my delivered .rpt to run with my app.  Adding their company name, logo, etc.   My testing show a CR XI report still works with my current app.  But, going forward, what should I deliver and what do I need to use to continue development?

To use Reports designed in XI, you need to use XI or higher runtime, running them in older versions may work, but you may encounter unforeseen issues doing so.
If you are to use VS2005 for development you need to use XI Release 2 (11.5) runtime.
If you are going to use VS2008 for development you need to use Crystal Reports 2008 with Service Pack 0.
The support end of life for versions of Crystal Reports bundled with Visual Studio are linked to what Microsoft's lifecycle for the product is.  Generally if there is a workaround for the issue that is simple enough, there will not be a patch created.
The changes you are expecting the customer to do can be accomplished with our RAS SDK which is available without using enterprise starting with Crystal Reports XIR2 SP2.
