Problems with @namedquery annotation with EJB3.0

Hi,
I want to use multiple EJB @namedquery annotation in for an entity bean, but I am getting the following error:
Error(30): duplicate annotation
when I compile this file:
@Entity
@Table(name = "PLAYER")
@NamedQuery(name = "findPlayerById",
queryString = "SELECT OBJECT(player) FROM Player player WHERE player.id = :id")
@NamedQuery(name = "findPlayerByFirstname",
queryString = "SELECT OBJECT(player) FROM Player player WHERE player.firstname = :firstname")
public class Player implements Serializable
In the EJB specification there is nothing said about the impossibillity to use multiple named queries in one entity file. So is this not possible in Oracle implementation? or..
is this still a bug in jdev 10.1.3.0.1 ...?
- Tom

Add the @NamedQuery annotations to the @NamedQueries annotation.
@NamedQueries({@NamedQuery(name = "findPlayerById",
queryString = "SELECT OBJECT(player) FROM Player player WHERE player.id = :id"),
@NamedQuery(name = "findPlayerByFirstname",
queryString = "SELECT OBJECT(player) FROM Player player WHERE player.firstname = :firstname")
})

• Problem with EJB3 - BlazeDS on Glassfish

Hi, I'm new in BlazeDS. I have a problem with Flex application using BlazeDS on Glassfish. I want to call sayHello method from EJB 3 (stateful or stateless) from Flex but I can't correctly configure BlazeDS. I search in internet from two weeks for examples, but most of them is for JBoss. Can somebody show me full config for BlazeDS, Flex application (and Glassfish if it's needed).
I should be grateful for any help.

Lucasz, did you find out how to configure BlazeDS on GlassFish ?
I'm having trouble also. We need to run on glassfish/netbeans/toplink, which is not quite common in the doc's/web. Even granite is very eclipse/jboss/hibernate oriented.
I just need some good EJB3Factory available, or an example, and a way to match JNDI calls from glassfish to my blazeDS destinations.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

• Weblogic server 10.0 MP2 version compatibility with EJB3.0

Is it ok to use EJB3.0 in 10.0 MP2 ?
Are there any pitfalls or problems with EJB3.0 implementation with webloigc 10.0 MP2 version?
Currently we are using weblogic 10.0 MP2 version and planning to use EJB3.0 for one of our projects.
Do we still need to go to weblogic 10.3 for using EJB 3.0 or can we stick with webloigc 10.0 MP2 version
As per weblogic 10.0 documentation EJB3.0 is supported and JDK version used is 1.5. - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E13222_01/wls/docs100/pdf/notes.pdf
Thanks

Hi Anup,
Maybe you should be a bit more specific about what you want to do. Coherence is just Java and has been supported WebLogic for years in the same way most other third-party Java libraries and APIs are. I first started using Coherence about four or five years ago with WebLogic 8.

• Problem with controlling Annotations from Excel VBA

Hi,
I have a PDF document that has plenty of sticky notes attached to it. These sticky notes have been added by multiple authors on all pages of the document. I am trying to import the contents of these sticky notes, their author and the page number to an excel spreadsheet. I am using Excel 2007 and Acrobat Professional 9.0.
This is the code that I am currently using to import the sticky notes, but the problem that I am facing is that when I run the macro -
Same sticky note contents, author and page numbers are imported multiple times
Not all sticky notes are imported, only some of them appear in the final excel spreadsheet
When I compare the number of sticky notes to that in the original PDF file, the number is correct. But the content is repeated content and that is the reason why only some of the sticky notes are imported.
This is an activity that I need to do on regular basis and the number of sticky notes that I need to import to excel may range between 100 to 200. It is really difficult to do this task manually, so an excel VBA macro could prove really helpful.

Make sure you are current with 9.x patches, just on general principles.
The code seems fine – nothing jumping out at me.
You can also look at using the JSObject methods and trying this via the JavaScript stuff – that will give you more access to the Annotation information…

• Problem with contents of annotation

Hi,
I have problem with JS and annotations in new Acrobat XI reader. My script have to read annotations contents but in XI annotation.contents is always undefined. I listed all object properties and I can't find property with correct contents. I don't see any changes in documentation. Should work.

This is quite old scripts which stopped working, works fine on older versions up to Acrobat Pro 10.1.1
Now I'm testing it on 11.0.3 and doesn't work.
This simple test function works on Pro 10.1.1 and shows contents, on XI shows "undefined"
function listAnnots() {
var string = "";
var annots_list = this.getAnnots();
if (annots_list.length>0) {
for (k=0; k<annots_list.length;k++) {
tmp = annots_list[k];
string += "Contents: "+tmp.contents+"\n";
app.alert(string);

• Problems Editing Previous Annotations with Preview

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem with Preview and/or has any advice on how to fix it.
Ever since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I've been having problems whenever I try to edit any of my text annotations in Preview. All of my notes for school are given as PDFs, so I have always used Preview and the textbox function to take notes during lecture. Before I upgraded, if I opened a previously-annotated document to study from and wanted to change something or add to the text, I would simply double-click the textbox and be able to fix it in 1 second.
Unfortunately, trying to make any changes to annotations has become a major process ever since switching to Mountain Lion.
Basically, as soon as I double-click any textbox to edit something I wrote at an earlier time, the box will shrink up to a single line that goes off the page and into oblivion. I have to resize the textbox over and over again just to fit it back on the page, which can be time-consuming and frustrating when paragraphs of text are suddenly condensed to one line that extends ten miles beyond the margins. It happens both with older documents from Lion and with the new documents I've only downloaded and annotated since upgrading to Mountain Lion. I thought maybe it was just my computer, but I tried it on a friend's Mac with Mountain Lion and had the same problem.
I have only used Preview for everything, so all of my annotations have been made using the same program. Also, it gives me no trouble if I try to edit as long as the document remains open; it only happens after I close out of a document and open it up again at a later time (even if it's immediately after closing it). Unfortunately, I can't keep 200+ documents open on the chance I might need to edit them at some point.
If anyone has any clue how I can stop this from happening in Preview or has a suggestion for another good PDF editor (aside from anything Adobe preferably), I would really appreciate it!!
Thank you very much in advance.

This is happening to me too! It's so frustrating especially since I've come to love Preview before upgrading to mountain lion. At first glace it seemed Preview had become more userfriendly with the textbox, line and circle drawers all separate icons now but the textboxes are such a pain. I know it only takes an extra 5 seconds or so, but by the time you add all the 5 seconds' up, it's heaps of time. It's especially hard if I'm listening to a lecture and I have to stop and fix my textboxes while the lecturer is still talking.
Sorry this isn't much of a solution, but I hope you don't feel alone dealing with this flaw!

• Problem with cross-database relation in EJB3 entities with Sybase DB

Hi,
while experimenting with EJB3 as a beginner, I noticed that generated queries sent to the Sybase DB never use the catalog name prepending the table name (like in: select * from user_db..Account where Id = 'myname'). Instead only table name is used, which schema-name prepended in case it's not blank.
This is inconvinient, since it forces me to use several persistence units, one for each catalog.
What is even more a problem, is that an entitiy that has a relation to another entity mapped to a table in a different catalog, doesn't work, at runtime I get a error '...sql error...table <table_in_other_catalog> not found...'
Is there a fix/work around for this problem?
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Mark

Was it that there was an entity generation bug, or was it that your classes were out of sync, and that by changing the table names that you regenerated the entity classes to be in sync?
If you have a simple reproducable test case of the problem then it would be great if you could enter a bug in Bugzilla:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/enter_bug.cgi?product=EPS%28EclipseLink%29
Thanks.

• Problems with WEBUTIL_CORE on OAS 10.1.2 (CLIENT_IMAGE.READ_IMAGE_FILE)

Hello,
I get a problem with webutil 106 on Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 (RedHat 4)
Some functions raise errors as :
oracle.forms.net.ConnectionException: Abandon de la session Forms <839> : communication avec le processus runtime impossible.

For testing, I use the demo form WU_TEST_106 and I encounter this problem with :
CLIENT_IMAGE.READ_IMAGE_FILE
I get another problem with SHOWBEANS(FALSE) that doesn't terminate (showbeans(true) works fine)
I've tried others Webutil functions that works fine
I've another platform with same release of Webutil / OAS 10.1.2 / Redhat4 which works fine (the major difference is that OAS was installed with portal in this last platform).
I've made those test with same client and same database (10g)
Any ideas ?

Seems to be a bug. That was the response from Oracle support (Metalink)
Response:
Your issue seems to be related to bug 5594702 - Abstract: EJB30 ENTITY BEAN WITH @ID AND @COLUMN ANNOTATION FAILS TO DEPLOY ON AIX.
There is an issue with the IBM JDK/JRE 1.5's processing of annotations.
Links:
http://www.theserverside.com/discussions/thread.tss?thread_id=37764
http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/forums/dw_thread.jsp?forum=367&thread=112543&cat=10
When processing annotations it returns boolean values as false.
Work-around:
Fully specify the @Column annotation's boolean values. If insertable and updatable are set to false (which will happen due to this bug) then TopLink sets the PK
mapping to read-only and the exception seen is expected.
Note: nullable attribute of the @Colmun is not used in the EJB3/JPA preview of 10.1.3.0 If the customer MUST override the default column name then they should use:
@Column(name="column-name", insertable=true, updatable=true)
If they do not wish to override the default column name then simply do not use an @Column annotation.
It can be deleted or commented out in the JDev generated code.
There are two reported annotation processing issues with the AIX JVM. One was fixed in SR1 and the other is fixed
in SR3 (due out Oc 11 - today). Upgrading to these more recent JVM releases may also address this issue.
RECOMMENDED SOLUTIONS:
1. Upgrade the IBM AIX JVM to SR3.
OR
2. Fix all generated @Column annotations as described above

• Problems with cascading delete with entities

I have a problem with cascading delete. I have two entities, Notebook and Note. One instance of Notebook can have several instances of Note in a Collection< Note >. The two entities are joined with a join table notebook_note that have two columns, the PK from the table of Notebook and Note. Note is not aware of the relation.
From the user interface some elements of the collection<Note> can be added or deleted. I want to delete an element of that collection and make it persisted on the DB.
If I add some Note elements to the collection and then I EntityManager.merge(notebook) (see public void persistNotebook() code below), I have all them persisted on the DB.
However, if I delete some preexisting Note elements, after the merge I found deleted only the corresponding rows from the join table notebook_note BUT the rows in table Note, that was belonging to the deleted instance of Notebook, are NOT removed.
Till now I found a way to do that (see code UserBean below), but I think that there is a simpler and so better way to do that! I hope to receive some suggestions!!
@Entity
public class Notebook implements Serializable {
private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
private String userName;
private Collection<Note> notes;
public Notebook() {
public Notebook(String userName) {
this.userName = userName;
notes = new ArrayList<Note>();
@Id
public String getUserName() {
return userName;
public void setUserName(String userName) {
this.userName = userName;
@OneToMany(cascade = {CascadeType.ALL}, fetch = FetchType.EAGER)
public Collection<Note> getNotes() {
return notes;
public void setNotes(Collection<Note> notes) {
this.notes = notes;
@Entity
public class Note implements Serializable {
String note;
public void setNote(String note) {
this.note = note;
public String getNote() {
return note;
@Stateful
public class UserBean implements UserRemote {
private static Logger log = Logger.getLogger(UserRemote.class);
@PersistenceContext(unitName = "etourism-ejbPU")
private EntityManager em;
……
@TransactionAttribute(TransactionAttributeType.REQUIRES_NEW)
public void persistNotebook() {
NotebookDao notebookDao = new notebookDao(em);
notebookDao.merge(notebook);
em.flush();
public void deleteNotebookNote (….) {
…..
//noteFound is the note I want to delete from the Collection<Note>
notebook.getEvents().remove(noteFound);
persistNotebook(); //see method above
*//I have also to explicitally delete the associated note!!!*
*NoteDao noteDao = new NoteDao(em);*
*noteDao.remove(noteDao.read(noteFound.getId()));*
public void addNotebookNote(…..) {
//add new note to the collection<Note> of the Notebook
Note newNote = new Note(…);
notebook.getNotes().add(newNote);
persistNotebook();
Where:
public class NotebookDao extends JpaDao<Notebook, String> {
……
public abstract class JpaDao<T, PK extends Serializable> implements IDao<T, PK> {
…..
public void remove(T entity) {
getEntityManager().remove(entity);
public void merge(T transientObject) {
getEntityManager().merge(transientObject);
}

Thank you gimbal2 for your answer.
You are right saying that a single Note could be bound to multiple notebooks, when using a join table, so the cascade cannot be done automatically by JPA.
However, in my case, a single Note is bound only to one Notebook, so I would like to drop the join table (as you rightly suggest): however when I declare in the Notebook, a relation 1:N in this way ...
@OneToMany(cascade = {CascadeType.ALL}, fetch = FetchType.EAGER)
private Collection<Note> notes;
... the join table is automatically created during the deploy.
Sorry, I am a beginner in EJB3. What kind of relational mapping annotation should I use to have a straight 1:N relationship that doesn't generate a join table?
I think that it should be better to avoid to modify the relationship (es. cascade option) directly in the created db tables and let the logic be declared in the entity code definition: am I right?
Waiting for your suggestion ...
thank you very much
Enzo

• Problem with non-container managed entity manager

i am working on a project, in which i am using entity beans.i use netbeans, glassfish as application server and toplink as persistence provider .
i created a java class that handles all the operations with the entitys, which means i using non-container managed entity manager.
in the constructor
try{
EntityManagerFactory emf = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("voidPU");
entityManager = emf.createEntityManager();
catch(Exception ex){
throw new EJBException(ex.getMessage());
}then i call a function in this class from a servlet
the code of the function
List users = null;
try {
ProgLanguages progLanguage = entityManager.find(ProgLanguages.class, languageId);
users = (List) progLanguage.getUserIdCollection();
catch(IllegalStateException illegalStateException){
throw new EJBException(illegalStateException.getMessage());
catch(IllegalArgumentException illegalArgumentException) {
throw new EJBException(illegalArgumentException.getMessage());
}i got an IllegalArgumentException saying Unknown entity bean class: class vanguard.server.entity.ProgLanguages, please verify that this class has been marked with the @Entity annotation
what confuses me is that sometimes it works and most of the time it does not work, have i made anything wrong?, or there is a problem with any of the tools netbeans, glassfish, or toplink?

Is it always the same entity that is reported as 'unknown' ? You mention that it works sometimes but is it the same deployment and the same code that works? The first thing I would verify is that the ear is being created as expected by netbeans. Check the persistence.xml file and verify that all of the classes are listed that will be used as entities.

• Noob Question: Problem with Persistence in First Entity Bean

Hey folks,
I have started with EJB3 just recently. After reading several books on the topic I finally started programming myself. I wanted to develop a little application for getting a feeling of the technology. So what I did is to create a AppClient, which calls a Stateless Session Bean. This Stateless Bean then adds an Entity to the Database. For doing this I use Netbeans 6.5 and the integrated glassfish. The problem I am facing is, that the mapping somehow doesnt work, but I have no clue why it doesn't work. I just get an EJBException.
I would be very thankfull if you guys could help me out of this. And don't forget this is my first ejb project - i might need a very detailed answer ... I know - noobs can be a real ....
So here is the code of the application. I have a few methods to do some extra work there, you can ignore them, there are of no use at the moment. All that is really implemented is testConnection() and testAddCompany(). The testconnection() Methode works pretty fine, but when it comes to the testAddCompany I get into problems.
Edit:As I found out just now, there is the possibility of Netbeans to add a Facade pattern to an Entity bean. If I use this, everythings fine and it works out to be perfect, however I am still curious, why the approach without the given classes by netbeans it doesn't work.
public class Main {
private EntryRemote entryPoint = null;
public static void main(String[] args) throws NamingException {
Main main = new Main();
main.runApplication();
private void runApplication()throws NamingException{
this.getContext();
this.testConnection();
this.testAddCompany();
this.testAddShipmentAddress(1);
this.testAddBillingAddress(1);
this.testAddEmployee(1);
this.addBankAccount(1);
private void getContext() throws NamingException{
InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext();
this.entryPoint = (EntryRemote) ctx.lookup("Entry#ejb.EntryRemote");
private void testConnection()
System.err.println("Can Bean Entry be reached: " + entryPoint.isAlive());
private void testAddCompany(){
Company company = new Company();
company.setName("JavaFreaks");
entryPoint.addCompany(company);
System.err.println("JavaFreaks has been placed in the db");
}Here is the Stateless Session Bean. I added the PersistenceContext, and its also mapped in the persistence.xml file, however here the trouble starts.
import javax.ejb.Stateless;
import javax.persistence.EntityManager;
import javax.persistence.PersistenceContext;
@Stateless(mappedName="Entry")
public class EntryBean implements EntryRemote {
@PersistenceContext(unitName="PersistenceUnit") private EntityManager manager;
public boolean isAlive() {
return true;
public boolean addCompany(Company company) {
manager.persist(company);
return true;
public boolean addShipmentAddress(long companyId) {
return false;
public boolean addBillingAddress(long companyId) {
return false;
public boolean addEmployee(long companyId) {
return false;
public boolean addBankAccount(long companyId) {
return false;
}That you guys and gals will have a complete overview of whats really going on, here is the Entity as well.
package ejb;
import java.io.Serializable;
import javax.persistence.*;

Well I don't understand this. If Netbeans created a Stateless Session Bean as a facade then it works -and it is implemented as a CMP, not as a BMP as you suggested.
I defenitely will try you suggestion, just for curiosity and to learn the technology, however I dont have see why BMP will work and CMP won't.
I also don't see why a stateless bean can not be a CMP. As far as I read it should not matter. Also on the link you sent me, I can't see anything related to that.
Maybe you can help me answering these questions.
I hope the above lines don't sound harsh. I really appreciate your input.

• Problem with JavaScript getPageNumWords

Using AR7.0.9. I have a problem with the JavaScript method doc.getPageNumWords and the associated machinery for keeping
track of the words on a page. And I'm wondering if it's a bug,
or something which is not properly defined by the PDF spec.
The situation is illustrated by the test file:
http://www.amrita-cfd.org/4adobe/word-count/test1.pdf
It would appear that the word machinery is aware of
the text in the /Xform's used by /Widget annotations.
But the text is locked in the first time the
machinery is activated on a page i.e. visible /Widget's
are included and invisible ones are ignored.
But since /Widget's can be turned on and off
it's then possible for the word-cache to become out of sync
with respect to the visible text on the page.
Note that a widget which is invisible when
the document is opened, but visible when
doc.getPageNumWords is first called is included
in the word list i.e. the word-cache is computed
once in a just-in-time fashion.
Is the above a known problem, or an inconsistency that has
not been considered before? One solution would be
to add an optional parameter to getPageNumWords
that would force the word-cache to be recomputed,
when needed. Thus removing the need to keep automatic
track of which widgets to include and exclude.

• Problem with XML loading and xmlns

I'm having a problem with loading an XML file that was created by Filemaker. Filemaker will output an XML file using one of two different grammars. One outputs in a mostly standard form that I can use with one glitch. Flash CS4 AS3 seems to have a problem with the xmlns in one of the nodes.
Specifically:
<FMPDSORESULT xmlns="http://www.filemaker.com/fmpdsoresult">
If I remove the xmlns="http://www.filemaker.com/fmpdsoresult" the file loads properly and I can access the various fields with no problem. However, when I leave the xmlns=... in, it will trace out the XML properly but I can't access the fields using the code listed below. This is driving me crazy!
With the xmlns part in the XML file I get the following error when it tries to load the thumbnail files:
TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.
I need to have it so that the user can enter/edit data and simply output the XML file from Filemaker and then Flash will load up the unaltered XML file and show the info requested by the user. That is to say I could have the user open the XML file in a word processing application and have them delete the xmlns..., but that is rather cumbersome and not very user friendly.
I've tried every xml.ignore function I could find but it doesn't help. Hopefully someone out there can help
Thanks,

Hi,
I was trying to use xml namespaces, so in my application I receive an XML file from the server. The file has a namespace, so when I parse the file I need to specify the namespace:
I got the following piece of xml:
<ls:exchange xmlns:ls=".../tsw" xmlns:tm="http://kxa">
<ls:projects>
<tm:annotation id="" date="" action="getprojects" status="responseok"/>
<ls:project id="" name="proj" description="..." owner="asss" release="2" />
<ls:projectV id="" version="" creationdate="" modificationdate=""/ >
</ls:project>
</ls:projects>
</ls:exchange>
and the following code
<mx:VBox label="WELCOME" verticalScrollPolicy="off" horizontalScrollPolicy="off">
<mx:Tree id="tree" dataProvider="{srv.lastResult.project}" labelField="@name" width="300" height="100%" itemOpen="itemOpenEvt(event);" />
</mx:VBox>
So i want to display the content of the xml (project nodes”) in a tree view, but i don’t know how to includes the namespace"ls:" in the data provider “srv.lastResult.project”. can u help me it’s urgent.
sincerly

• Problem with JPA Implementations and SQL BIGINT in primary keys

I have a general Question about the mapping of the SQL datatype BIGINT. I discovered, that there are some different behaviour depending on the JPA implementation. I tested with TopLink Essentials (working) and with Hibernate (not working).
Here is the case:
Table definition:
/*==============================================================*/
/* Table: CmdQueueIn */
/*==============================================================*/
create table MTRACKER.CmdQueueIn
CmdQueueInId bigint not null global autoincrement,
Type int,
Cmd varchar(2048),
CmdState int,
MLUser bigint not null,
ExecutionTime timestamp,
FinishTime timestamp,
ExecutionServer varchar(64),
ScheduleString varchar(64),
RetryCount int,
ResultMessage varchar(256),
RecordState int not null default 1,
CDate timestamp not null default current timestamp,
MDate timestamp not null default current timestamp,
constraint PK_CMDQUEUEIN primary key (CmdQueueInId)
The java class for this table has the following annotation for the primary key field:
@Id
@GeneratedValue(strategy=GenerationType.IDENTITY)
@Column(name = "CmdQueueInId", nullable = false)
private BigInteger cmdQueueInId;

This means, that their ID generator does not support java.math.BigInteger as datatype.
But the code works if I take TopLink essentials as JPA Provider.
Looking at the spec shows the following:
In chapter 2.1.4 "If generated primary keys are used, only integral types will be portable." Integral datatypes are byte, short, int, long and char. This would mean, that the Hibernate implementation fits the spec but there seem to be a problem in general with BIGINT datatypes.
I use a SYBASE database. There it is possible to declare a UNSIGNED BIGINT. The range of numbers is therefore 0 - 2^64 - 1. Since in Java a long is always signed it would mean its range is from -2^63 -1 to 2^63 -1. So a mapping of BIGINT to java.lang.long could result in an overflow.
The interesting thing is, that I used NetBeans to reverse engineer an existing database schema. It generated for all Primary Keys of Type BIGINT automatically a java.math.BigInteger. But for other fields (not being keys) it mapped BIGINTs to java.lang.long.
It looks like there are some problems with either the spec itself or the implementation of it. While TopLink seems to handle the problem correctly, Hibernate doesn't. But Hibernate seems to fulfill the spec.
Is anybody familiar with the Spec reading this and can elaborate a little about this situation?
Many thanks for your input and feedback.
Tom

Not sure if I clearly understand your issue, would be good if you can explain it a bit more clearly.
