Problems with spanish accents

my messages in Spanish are NOT well received at PC computers. Strange symbols come out. Any tips?
Gracias
Juan

As a result of history of Windows, which started as a GUI add-on to MS-DOS, Windows GUI applications work in a different code page than the console (Command Prompt) applications. The former use a Windows code page -- it is code page 1252 for Western European languages. The latter use the so called OEM (aka DOS) code page. This code page is 437 on US Windows and 850 on Western European Windows. Oracle names for the mentioned 3 code pages are WE8MSWIN1252, US8PC437, and WE8PC850, correspondingly. Therefore, the cited recommendation assumes GUI applications. For console applications, like SQL*Plus 11g, you need to override the NLS_LANG setting from Registry using the NLS_LANG environment variable in the environment of the particular application.

  • Problem with Spanish accented characters in some sites (e.g. "é" shows as "eacute")

    Spanish accented vocals are not being shown correctly at some pages of a site that I use often (https-based online banking). Note that not all pages at that site show this problem.
    On the problematic pages, all accented vocals are shown as a combination of the "&" character plus such vocal (unaccented) plus the "acute" string.
    For example:
    "Información" shows up as "Informaci&oacuten" ---> note that "ó" was replaced by "&oacute"
    "Débitos" shows up as "D&eacutebitos" ---> note that "é" was replaced by "&eacute"
    I tried many Unicode & Western character encoding options, including UTF-8 which is my default option, with no improvements (actually, using any encoding option different from UTF-8 breaks those pages that previously worked fine at that site).
    Note that this happened even before I installed the DownThemAll! extension.
    Internet Explorer does not present this problem.
    Thanks for your support.

    It is possible that those entities are in the page code as & or that they are missing a closing ';'

  • Problems with Greek accented characters

    After the update to AIR 2.0.2 I cannot input into any application greek with accented characters.
    Tried TweetDeck and Twhirl and neither work (used to before the update)
    Is this a bug or it needs some configuration
    I am working on Fedora13 but heard the same problem reported on Ubuntu.
    Have not tried on MS Windows or MacOSX

    Hi,
    I'm using Adobe AIR 2.0.3 on Windows machine. I wrote an app in Aptana Studio (build: 2.0.5.1278522500) with ExtJS library and I found the problem with polish national characters like ż and Ż (all the other national characters like ą, ę, ń are possible to input).
    In order to reproduce, here you have the sample code in ExtJS:
    http://dev.sencha.com/deploy/dev/examples/form/anchoring.html
    As you will see - it is possible to input ż and Ż in text fields.
    Now, use the same code to build AIR applicaton and then run the application. It is not possible to input those characters in Air window. Right Alt+z acts like undo operation - it removes last entered text. All the other characters work fine.
    Here is the code I used:
    <html>
        <head>
            <title>New Adobe AIR Project</title>
            <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="lib/ext/resources/css/ext-all.css" />

            <script type="text/javascript" src="lib/ext/adapter/ext/ext-base.js"></script>
               <script type="text/javascript" src="lib/ext/ext-all.js"></script>
            <script type="text/javascript" src="lib/ext/air/ext-air.js"></script>
            <script type="text/javascript">
            Ext.onReady(function(){
        var form = new Ext.form.FormPanel({
            baseCls: 'x-plain',
            labelWidth: 55,
            defaultType: 'textfield',
            items: [{
                fieldLabel: 'Send To',
                name: 'to',
                anchor:'100%'  // anchor width by percentage
                fieldLabel: 'Subject',
                name: 'subject',
                anchor: '100%'  // anchor width by percentage
                xtype: 'textarea',
                hideLabel: true,
                name: 'msg',
                anchor: '100% -53'  // anchor width by percentage and height by raw adjustment
        var window = new Ext.Window({
            title: 'Resize Me',
            width: 500,
            height:300,
            minWidth: 300,
            minHeight: 200,
            layout: 'fit',
            plain:true,
            bodyStyle:'padding:5px;',
            buttonAlign:'center',
            items: form,
            buttons: [{
                text: 'Send'
                text: 'Cancel'
        window.show();
            </script>
        </head>
        <body>
        </body>
    </html>
    Is it possible to input those characters or is there a workaround for this (disable undo operation or so) ?
    I really appreciate any help.
    Kind regards,
    Marcin.

  • Problem with spanish characters

    Hello
    I am using an existing and proven app written in visual foxpro with a recently installed Oracle11g database (have done this before without problems)
    I am using Microsoft ODBC for Oracle and have no possibility of changing this. (always used this without problems)
    If I insert a string in in a fixed length char field of the same length of the string (say char(30)) IF THE STRING DOES NOT HAVE SPECIAL CHARACTERS, everything goes as usual. However, if the string contains some spanish language chars (ó, é, á, ñ) the insert fails indicating that the string is too long. I suspect "somewhere" this characters are encoded in double-byte instead of single-byte.
    My question is, which is the Oracle setting that allows/prevents this? I need special characters encoded in 1 byte. Language is Spanish.
    Some settings that the Oracle DBA passed to me are
    NLS_CHARACTERSET = AL32UTF8
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET= AL16UTF16
    Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

    In the database character set AL23UTF8 (NLS_CHARACTERSET=AL23UTF8), accented Spanish characters occupy 2 bytes each. This cannot be changed.
    Two possible solutions:
    -- recreate the database using the character set WE8MSWIN1252
    -- redefine the column from CHAR(30), which usually by default means CHAR(30 BYTE), to CHAR(30 CHAR). This means no more than 30 characters but up to 120 bytes (in AL32UTF8).
    If you run your application with NLS_LANG=.WE8MSWIN1252 and you do not use byte-oriented SQL functions such as SUBSTRB, INSTRB, or LENGTHB, you will most probably see no functional difference between single-byte storage and multibyte storage of Spanish characters. On the client side, these characters will be single-byte.

  • Problems with input accented characters after moving JInitiator to JDK 1.5

    After upgrading from JInitiator 1.3.1.18 to JDK 1.5.0_06 (jdk plugin in IE), the input of accented characters (in our case portuguese) isn't working anymore in text areas on the forms (Forms 10g).
    So, if you push first the "´" key and then the "a" key, you should get as result "á" (worked correctly with JInitiator), but after upgrading to JDK 1.5 you will get simply a letter "a".
    Pressing Alt + 160 shows correctly "á".
    Somebody can give a clue about this problem please?
    Downgrading again to JInitiator is no option for us, as we need a more modern JVM (for a Dicom viewer applet we developed), and IE crashes if you have an Oracle form running with JInitiator, and then try to open another IE page with an applet requesting JVM 1.5 ...
    Thanks a lot for your comments.

    In IE, the server must be in the Trusted Sites list & the security for Trusted Sites set to low
    Tools -> Internet Options
    Security Tab
    Sites button
    Add all Forms servers, or use a wildcard to get your entire domain. If you are not using SSL, uncheck the "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone"
    Set the Security Level for this zone to Low. If the slider bar is not there, click the Default Level button, then slide the security setting to low.

  • Problems with diacritics/accents and paging in web viewer

    There seem to be some problems in displaying diacritics/accents in the web viewer (CR4E 2 update 4).
    On viewing a multi-page report containing accents, when the report is paged forwards/backwards the accented characters are corrupted. This is easily reproduced by creating a report which contains nothing apart from text including accented characters.
    The characters render correctly when exported to pdf.
    Has anyone else had issues with accented characters?

    There is no BPEL involved at this point. Did you mean the xsd file generated by EDIfecs? It does actually contain the UTF-8 encoding. As for the ecs file, I would not know how to ensure the encoding:

    Have you embedded the fonts?
    You can do it following these steps (I'm using Flash CS4):
    Select the textfield (I think is the fm_label).
    In the textfield properties, character, you choose "Character Embedding...".
    There, you can choose "Basic Latin" for example.
    Then, add the characters you need that aren't in "Basic Latin". For example, ñ.
    The image below shows what I said.

  • PROBLEM WITH ALT-V WHEN USING CROATIAN KEYBOARD

    Hi,
    When Typing ALT GR+V (@ sign) in Croatian Keyboard, all the text from clipboard is copied into the text box (as it is pressed CTRL+V) plus the @sign.
    There were some bugs filed long back regarding a similar issue for the German keyboard where the customer was using the AltGr key for special characters, same as in our case.
    Below is the list of those bugs:
    (1)     Bug 757614: GERMAN USERS CANNOT USE ALT-GR KEY TO GET SPECIAL CHARACTERS
    (2)     666925
    (3)     767865
    (4)     768658
    I have gone through the descriptions and mail chains mentioned in these bugs, and it seems that the issue was fixed in OJDK.
    Please go through the above mentioned bugs once to get more details.
    It seems that this is not ORMS issue. It seems to be an Oracle Forms or OJDK issue.
    Can someone please advise on this as why is this happening. We are using Oracle Forms 10g.

    I've posted here because I guess it may be the same bug.
    After upgrading I wasn't able to do special characters, including some accented vocals, like "ì", very common in italian language.
    Then I've added an english keyboard, removed the italian one and added it again, so the problem with missing accented vocals was solved.
    I still have the same problem with special consonants, like "z" and "c": if I hold my thumb on such letters, I have no options like, say, "ż" (such characters are very important for my field (linguistics) and if Apple won't solve this problem I'll be forced to look elsewhere).

  • Problem with accent in Title

    Hi there,
    I'am using Adobe Captivate 6 on a mac, in French.
    On each slide I have a Title (area defined in my main slide).
    In the Title area, I cannot type accent such ü ö, but é à are working. In other text areas, is it working.
    What could I do ? Is it a bug ?
    Many thanks for your Help

    Yes I tried with antother fonts such as Arial Times New Roman, it is the same.
    I experience this also with other placeholders not only title ones, BUT... I found a partial issue.
    When I am typing the wanting caracter such as "ü" in the search filed, and then Copy/Paste in my Title Placeholder it works.
    I realy think is it a bug.

    Cannot help you, just hope someone of the staff pops in. It seems a bit strange however that this issue is only with the Title placeholders... the Spanish users had similar issues all the time. Did you try to change the font?
