Problems with Sybase 12 to Oracle 10g migration
Hi,
I'm using SQL Developer to test a migration between Sybase and Oracle and it doesn't work (both online and offline)
I've create a dedicated user account and connection, with the roles and privileges required (as seen in http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32485_01/doc/appdev.110/b31695/migration.htm#i1005739)
I've created the migration repository without any problems (using the above user account).
QUICK MIGRATION
- select the source Sybase connection: OK
- select the target Oracle connection: OK
- select the referential: OK
- verify privileges before migration: OK
- migrate tables only and click Next
## window closes and nothing happens ## - nothing on Captured Model pane
CAPTURE SOURCE SYBASE DATABASE
- right click on the Sybase connection in the Connections pane
- choose Capture Sybase
## window closes and nothing happens ## - nothing on Captured Model pane
OFFLINE CAPTURE
- create database capture scripts: OK
- launch the database scripts (SYB12_OFFLINE_CAPTURE.BAT): OK
- load database capture script output (sybase12.ocp)
## window closes and nothing happens ## - nothing on Captured Model pane
I can't find any relevant logs or trace from the application.
I even tried to use the capture file sybasemigration.zip from the "Migrating a Sybase Database to Oracle Database 11g" web page (http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/hol08/sqldev_migration/sybase/migrate_sybase_otn.htm), but the result was the same.
Does anyone encountered the same problems? Does someone knows where are the logs (if any)?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Pedro
Hi Pedro,
What version of SQL Developer are you using?
Can you browse your Sybase connection in SQL Developer, to see its tables for example?
If not, then you may need to point SQL Developer to your JTDS 1.2 driver again.
Are you capturing a non system database ? SQL Developer wont migration master or tempdb ...
Can you try running SQL Developer from the command line and watch the command line for any errors during the capture.
\sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.exe

Dermot

Problems with the installation Oracle 10g 10202 - Platform x86 - Sol 5.10
Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle 10g R10202 in plataform x86 Solaris 5.10. I did all the tasks of preinstallation, and when I execute runInstaller, the following error appears ==>

Obviously it is not a problem of space in the directory/tmp.
I have tried other options as ==>
*-Run runInstaller con el parameter ignoreSysPrereqs
*-Setting others variables of environment like, TMP =/opt/tmp
and TMPDIR =/opt/tmp.
But I don't fix the problem.
Someone has some idea of like solving this bug or problem?
Thanks in Advance.
Best Regards.
NSVError is on small caps but it is straight forward:
".. error: invalid compressed data to inflate ..."
Your oracle media is corrupt. Redownload it and verify the downloaded zip file.

Problem with javascript/PHP/ oracle 10g smart quotes
I have a problem with my php form that passes the text field to a javascript object. When I copy text from MS Word that includes smart quotes, the form inputs that into the database as ? (upside down) marks. The charset of the DB is WE8MSWIN1252. How do I store these smart quotes as regular quotes? And also if I can do any conversions on the front end (js or php). I tried doing some conversion but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated thank you. “double”
Decide if you want your HTML pages in Windows code page 1252 or Unicode UTF-8. Then, make sure the pages are properly tagged as either "text/html;charset=windows-1252" or "text/html;charset=utf-8". Use HTTP header Content-type or the corresponding <META HTTP-EQUIV=...> tag. Then, set NLS_LANG environment variable for your PHP engine to either AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252 or to AMERICAN_AMERICA.AL32UTF8, depending on which encoding you selected for your HTML.

"Problem with links in Oracle 10g Express Edition Application Interface"
Hi.
Under Object_Interface>Browse>Procedure the "edit" and "compile" links are not working. Also I am unable to see my code when I click on one of the procedures. Kindly help me out.
Thanks & Regards
SriMy laptop didn't start this morning. Can you help me out?
(Go to the Express Edition forum at Oracle Database Express Edition (XE) and give them some hints about what the problem is. )
At the very least you will need to tell people: operating system, browser, whether you have Firewall turned on, whether you are using anti0virus, whether yo have upgraded the Application Express interface.
You can volunteer that information, or you can wait until people ask for it, but you will need to provide that information. And if you force people to ask - it's quite likely they will get bored with your problem. -
Installing Discoverer with Database Version Oracle 10g Express Edition
Hello,
Is it possilbe to install Discoverer with database version Oracle 10g Express Edition? I have Oracle Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.1.0 on my Windows XP machine as well. If so, can someone please provide me a link to the Discoverer download.
Regards,
KellyNote that the Personal Edition of the database is 'the most powerful' version, in that it contains all features and options of the Enterprise Edition (expect RAC and Enterprise Manager packs)
As such, the Personal Edition, at a mere USD$400-500 is one of the most cost effective for-fee products that Oracle has in it's inventory. It is targeted at the developer. And it comes with the complete set of Sample Data, whereas XE has a very limited subset (since it does not support all functionality).
Express Edition is indeed free, but it is not supported, and can not be patched. OTOH it does have a lighter footprint.
Again, I am not sure whether Disco 11g is compatible with Express Edition. (It's on my schedule for December ...) -
Oracle 10g Migration Workbench 10.1.0.4.0
Hai,
Could any of you explain me about Oracle 10g Migration Workbench 10.1.0.4.0
product and also about the features and usage of this project.
Thanks in advance.
A.Mohammed Rafi.Sandeep,
Have you used this user which holds the omwb repository before for a migration? When you connected the first itme, did you get a message, that the repository tables did not exist and would you like to create them?
Are you using the connected or disconnected source model load?

Problem with implicitly created Oracle pipes
Hi, I am having a problem with implicitly created Oracle pipes. I am not sure if this is the correct forum for this topic, but I could not see one which suited better..
I am using Oracle pipes as a commiunication mechanism between processes (some are written in PL/SQL and other in PRO*C).
The general problem I have is that if a timeout occurs during the communication process, I end up with 1 or perhaps 2 implicitly created pipes.
The biggest problem for me is that I am unable to determine if a create is implicitly created (via dbms_pipe.send_message or receive_message). This causes problems, since these implicitly created pipes are left behind and not deleted. I'll show you the basic flow of the processes and you shall see my problem.
server: create request pipe "req_pipe"
server: listen for request on requests pipe.
client: create two pipes for comms with server.
client: send request and the names of the newly created pipes to the server.
server: read request and pipename from request pipe (from this point all comms between the client and server are now done over the 2 pipes the client created).
server: send ack message to client to ensure they are still there (since requests can be queued in the request pipe and clients could have timed out before the request is received)
client: send "i'm still here" ack back to the server.
server: process request and send result back to client.
client: send ack back to server to let server know we have received the response.
server: send ack back to client to show that work is now committed.
OK thats the general event flow. I use the rule, that pipes created by a process are removed by a process. So the client always removes the pipes it created in all situations. But since this can happen at any point we can get in the situation:
client: timeout occurs, delete pipes.
server: send message to client (creates an implicit pipe) and therefor works (no errors raised)
server: do a read for response from previous message. (implicitly creates pipe) (will fail).
Now we have two implicitly created pipes! These pipes will exist until the database instance is shutdown, and in a poorly performing environment, we could get thousands of these pipes lying around... not a good situation.
How can I either stop pipes being implicilty created, or how do I detect if a pipe was implicitly created.
I have tried a couple of things, like using v$db_pipes to check if a pipe exists before doing send/reveive calls but this is FAR to slow to do a select on that view.
We have also looked at keeping a record of pipes created by the client then have some process (perhaps the server) clean up these pipes after some time frame. This is a workable solution but is not favourable since it adds extra overhead having to check these pipes often, and created an extra level of complexity which is not required..
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Feel free to email me with any suggestions on my email provided below, or just post a reply to this formum..
Many thanks,
Karl Bridger

Problems with Download of Oracle IFS /IFS Devkit for NT
I am having problems with download of Oracle IFS and Oracle IFS Devkit for NT.
When I ran the ifsdevkit.bat file the last four files did not get copied over. Subsequently when I ran the upload_ifsdevkit batch file as indicated in document I got error message saying
'System cannot find the path specified'.
When I opened the batch file it is looking for BIN directory under the C:\OraHome1\ifs directory but none exists. I wonder if this is the cause of problem. This would mean that the ifs1081.zip file has a bug in that it did not create the BIN directory and files under C:\OraHome1\ifs
Would appreciate if somebody can help. Thanks
nullIs C:\OraHome1 your ORACLE_HOME directory? (Usually, it's C:\Oracle\Ora81)
Also, have you installed iFS (successfully) in that ORACLE_HOME? If so, you are guaranteed to have an %ORACLE_HOME%\ifs\bin directory.
Finally, did you enter the correct directory as the parameter to the DEVKIT script? -

View problem in Oracle 10g migration
Hi,
I am involved in Oracle migration from 9 to 10g.
I have a problem with a view that works in Oracle 9 but in Oracle 10g raise the following error:
ORA-01446: cannot select ROWID from, or sample, a view with DISTINCT, GROUP BY etc.
In the view source there is a call to another view and in the last one another call to a view with a group by keyword because I need the max() column value in a table, so I need the group by keyword!!!
Any suggestion/work around to get the max() value without group by???
thanksHi,
Yes, MAX (and almost all the other aggregate functions) have analytic counterparts.
For example,
MAX (column_1) OVER (PARTITION BY column_2)calculates the same MAX that you would get with
MAX (column_1)
GROUP BY column_2But without grouping.
(I suppose you'll still want to get only one row per group in your view, but there are ways to do that without using GROUP BY.)
If you need help, post:
some sample data (from the base tables),
the output you want from that data (that is, the contents of the view), and
your existing view definition. -
MSAccess to Oracle 10g Migration Problem
I have exported an Access 2000 database (2 tables) to XML using Oracle SQL Developer (v1.2.1). It successfully creates
However, when I then go to Migration => Capture MS Access Exported XML, I find it is greyed-out and cannot be selected.
I then attempted to use the "Quick Migrate" feature. The pre-migration verification passes with no problems. The program then creates a repository but ends without moving on to the next section ("Capture"). From there, I'm left with a series of tables with an "md_" prefix, but all are empty.
Any help you can provide would be appreciated.
SteveTank you Hilary;
i did this steps :
1) Close SQL Developer
2) Create a sqldeveloper.cmd file in the SQL Developer root directory
3) With the following contents
SET ORACLE_HOME=%CD%
start sqldeveloper.exe
4) Run sqldeveloper.cmd
but i still get the message :

OMW supports sybase ASE 15 to Oracle 10g migration?
Hi,
I want to migrate data from Sybase ASE 15 to Oracle 10g. Can i use OMW for this purpose if not then what is the other way of doing it?
Kind regards
AnkitNo, not the current workbench. We will be bringing out support for Sybase 15 in SQL Developer at the next release.
You could try bringing the db down to 12 if that was an option and then migrate from that.

You should consult with Oracle about this. If nothing else has changed except the database version, why would it be the fault of Java or BEA?
