Process a batch of files

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshop/cs/using/WSfd1234e1c4b69f30ea53e41001031ab64-7425a.h tml

The way I do this is to record a new action.  Click on the View menu and open your Action panel.  You'll also need an initial document to run through and record the action and actions you wish to perform.  This can be a document you're working with, or possibly just a dummy file. It's not important just so long as you remember that the file might be edited and saved depending on what actions you are recording.
Once you have opened both your Action panel and your document, records the action(s) you intend to apply on multiple documents.  To do this, follow the help file located on this site.  Search for "Record an action" and it should show up.  The current (03-06-12) link is   http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshop/cs/using/WS262DC4FE-2F31-4e62-A39A-80CD90530422.html
Once you have recorded your action(s) by following the Adobe help page above, it should now appear when you go to File>Automate>Batch.  Now you can grab multiple files in either in Photoshop directly or through Adobe Bridge as explained in this page.

    If anyone is still looking for some visual reinforcement on this help topic, Andy Anderson has a Photoshop tutorial video on creating Droplets in CS6. He goes through different options in the Create Droplet dialog, finalizes the droplet settings, and then puts it to work:

  • How can I retrieve file name being processed in Batch

    Hi All
    I want to retrieve the current filename that is being processed by a batch, e.g. A1~Texas~Actual~Jan-2010~RR.txt
    I can do this in various event scripts that have the strFile parameter but I need to do it in the BatchAction event script and cannot see how I go about it. I can see various objects in the API guide that should help me get at it but can't get it working.
    Has anyone done this before or got any pointers for how I can do this?
    Many thanks
    Stuart

    Hi Tony
    I have been able to retrieve this using the PstrFileName property in various event scripts, particularly those where strFile is a parameter and then used API.DataWindow.Utilities.fParsePath to trim that and provide just the file name. However thsi does not work in the BatchAction event script.
    I have found a property in the Batch Loader section of the supplementary API called PstrFileTitle but my VB is not strong enough to work out how to get at it. From what I can gather I would need to supply the BatchID (plus other parameters) to another function that would return this into a recordset and then read from the recordset (??) but I am not sure how to go about this.
    To give you some background, what I am trying to achieve is writing to a log file pre and during batch processing where the log file name should use the source file's name, e.g. 'SourceFile.txt' will write to SourceFile.log. The issue is that for batch processing we have to rename 'SourceFile.txt' s 'A1~Texas~Actual~Jan-2010~RR.txt' and I previously tried to use the PvarTempNC variables to store the source file name only to find that I could use that in the BatchAction event script!
    If you can point me in the right direction that would be great.
    Thanks

  • Batch of files manually sorted in Bridge - Can I run a PS Action in that manual order?

    For some jobs my workflow ideally involves manually sorting the order of a batch of RAW files in Bridge (the RAW file names are as assigned by the camera) and then using a PS Action from Bridge to convert, save, and rename the batch of files. I want to end up with my image files sequentially numbered in the manually sorted order.
    However, my PS Action automatically processes the files in ascending order of their RAW file names and therefore my manually assigned file order in Bridge is lost.
    Is there a script (or other method) which will allow me to run a PS action from Bridge on a batch of files while keeping the manually sorted order for the purposes of the numbering sequence of the renamed output files?
    My current workaround is to Batch Rename in Bridge a copied set of RAW files as an intermediate step to running my PS Action on the renamed RAW file copies. It's not a bad workaround but if there is an easier way, I would much appreciate knowing about it!

    Geoff, here is an example that works for me. When I test ran the sample script based on some stuff that I do the files are process in the order of the manual sort and only the files in my selection are processed folders etc are ignored… I have NO idea how much people charge for this sort of thing I only do it for the learning process. If you can let me know what the Photoshop process is and your OS I 'may' be able to help but I make NO promises as Im still very much the learner with this stuff…
    You can give this a test if you like…

  • How to process large input CSV file with File adapter

    Hi,
    could someone recommend me the right BPEL way to process the large input CSV file (4MB or more with at least 5000 rows) with File Adapter?
    My idea is to receive data from file (poll the UX directory for new input file), transform it and then export to one output CSV file (input for other system).
    I developed my process that consists of:
    - File adapter partnerlink for read data
    - Receive activity with checked box to create instance
    - Transform activity
    - Invoke activity for writing to output CSV.
    I tried this with small input file and everything was OK, but now when I try to use the complete input file, the process doesn't start and automatically goes to OFF state in BPEL console.
    Could I use the MaxTransactionSize parameter as in DB adapter, should I batch the input file or other way could help me?
    Any hint from you? I've to solve this problem till this thursday.
    Thanks,
    Milan K.

    This is a known issue. Martin Kleinman has posted several issues on the forum here, with a similar scenario using ESB. This can only be solved by completely tuning the BPEL application itself, and throwing in big hardware.
    Also switching to the latest 10.1.3.3 version of the SOA Suite (assuming you didn't already) will show some improvements.

  • Setting Oracle environment variable using batch (.bat) file in windows

    Hi,
    Oracle 9i db
    Windows OS
    I am in process to create the database (Considered that Oracle9i software is already installed) by running one batch file which consist of all the scripts for the database creation.
    But i also want to set the environment variables at MyComputer(right click)>properties>advance>environment, permenently by running the batch (.bat) file
    ORACLE_HOME
    ORACLE_BASE
    ORACLE_SID
    So, how can it be done ?
    With Regards

    Hi,
    *@echo off*
    set ORACLE_SID=iprsdb
    set ORACLE_BASE=C:\oracle
    set ORACLE_HOME=C:\oracle\ora92
    call C:\install_bkp\test_env_var.bat
    echo Test Successfull.
    Above mentioned is the code written in the batch (.bat) file
    In that i have also called another .bat file which test the env. variable values which is as below:
    c:\>test_env.bat
    ===================
    Testing oracle sid
    ===================
    iprsdb
    =====================
    Testing oracle base
    ===================
    C:\oracle
    =====================
    Testing oracle home
    =====================
    C:\oracle\ora92
    Test Successfull.
    But when i checked at MyComputer(right click)>properties>advance>environment variables
    there, I saw none of the entries from the above, why so ?
    how to set env. variables permanently using the DOS commands. ?

  • How to automate the data load process using data load file & task Scheduler

    Hi,
    I am doing Automated Process to load the data in Hyperion Planning application with the help of data_Load.bat file & Task Scheduler.
    I have created Data_Load.bat file but rest of the process i am unable complete.
    So could you help me , how to automate the data load process using Data_load.bat file & task Scheduler or what are the rest of the file is require to achieve this.
    Thanks

    To follow up on your question are you using the maxl scripts for the dataload?
    If so I have seen and issue within the batch (ex: load_data.bat) that if you do not have the full maxl script path with a batch when running it through event task scheduler the task will work but the log and/ or error file will not be created. Meaning the batch claims it ran from the task scheduler although it didn't do what you needed it to.
    If you are using maxl use this as the batch
    "essmsh C:\data\DataLoad.mxl" Or you can also use the full path for the maxl either way works. The only reason I would think that the maxl may then not work is if you do not have the batch updated to call on all the maxl PATH changes or if you need to update your environment variables to correct the essmsh command to work in a command prompt.

  • Processes in Batch Monitor Disappear

    I'm using a fairly large quick cluster that has about 52 processors on it. There is a designated controller that is not sharing any processors for compressing. I'm having a problem where the batch of files compressing completely disappears from the batch monitor. It looks like there is nothing processing, however the qmaster light is still green.
    Unfortunately, it's not something I can just wait out and see if files start showing up. Anyone else have this problem or know of some fixes?

    Depending on what type of encode I'm doing, Batch Monitor does crazy stuff. When doing transcodes using H.264 codec, I've all but given up on relying on the time estimates being accurate. It will be done when it's done. For everything else, it's fairly reliable so long as I drill down to what's actually being encoded to get the real ETA until finish and I let it get past %5 complete. The initial times to complete encodes, anything from %1-4% are rarely accurate. And sometimes, it loses track what it's reporting on. When that happens, all I do is quit and launch it again.

  • Sedname - Batch rename files using sed

    Renaming files using sed is nothing new, but this script makes the process a little more friendly and adds a few features, including insertion of sequential numbers and a simulation mode.  The output of any find command can also be piped through sedname.
    sedname version 1.0.0
    Batch-renames files using a sed script
    Usage: sedname [OPTIONS] SEDSCRIPT FILE ...
    Usage: find [...] | sedname [OPTIONS] SEDSCRIPT
    Example: sedname 's/\(.*\)\.jpg/\1.jpeg/' *.jpg
    Example: find /mypics | sedname 's/\(.*\)\.jpg/\1.jpeg/'
    OPTIONS:
    --sim simulate only
    --dir rename directories too
    Use #D to insert a number with D digits forming a unique filename
    Example: sedname 's/thisname.*/thatname#3/' *
    ( changes thisname* to thatname001, thatname002, ... )
    Use #0 in replacement name to insert a number if needed
    Example: sedname 's/thisname.*/thatname#0/' *
    ( changes thisname* to thatname, thatname1, thatname2, ... )

  • Batch Input file is not created for the program RFUMSV00 (VAT)

    Dear All,
    Yesterday we run the program RFUMSV00 for posting VAT entries. But program dosnt created any batch input file. We tried to create the file once again by running the program, but there were no data;s on it.
    I can able to view the spool which is created in SM37. It is in the finished status.
    Can you please advice, do I need to delete any table entry for this like BSET etc....or how I can create the batch file again by ruuning the program. I dont want to post manually through FB41 transaction.
    Is there any Standard SAP solution for this.
    Please let me know anybody need any clarification about this question.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Check the status of the batch in SM35 transaction.
    if the batch is locked by mistake or any other error, now you can release it and aslo you can process again.
    To Release -Shift+F4.
    Also you can analyse the job status through F2 button.
    Bye

  • Compressor 4.1.3 will not start processing a batch

    Hi,
    I just started to process a batch of converting a m4v-file of a 90 min movie ripped from a retail DVD (it is legit am doing this as a proof of concept for the rights holder for my territory) to MP4 into a folder I named "MP4" with the option to prepare for HTTP Streaming after the MP4´s is done into a folder I named "HLS" with Compressor 4.1.3 on a Mac Book Pro (15"  Retina Early 2013, 2.4 Ghz i7, (8 Gb RAM, 256 Gb SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB,  OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)). It worked fine but I discovered that I forgot to actually choose the option to prepare for HTTP Streaming after the MP4´s is done so I Cancelled the job, deleted the files and started over with the option to prepare for HTTP Streaming after the MP4´s is done selected this time. Now Compressor accepts the batch as before but when it starts processing the "elapsed time" in the "active"-tab never starts and it just says "Processing" but nothing happens. Same procedure work fine on my Mac Book Pro 17" and it worked first time on the MacBooks Pro 15" retina. Any thoughts?

    I am having a related problem.  I am running Compressor 4.1.3 (which was automatically downloaded and installed from the App Store) on OSX 10.9.4, just recently.
    I have two machines, both running the same version of Compressor and connected by ethernet cable.  I had earlier installed previous versions of Compressor (I think the first was version 3.5) and got the program to work, with BOTH machines processing video files.  In earlier versions of the Compressor program more cores seem to be at work, as I could see several segments of a file being processed at one time.  Now, under 4.1.3, I am limited to just TWO on the slave machine, but files DO get processed. However:
    1.  My question:  the main machine will start a batch process, but the machine ITSELF, if one looks at the progress window during a batch processing, appears to be doing nothing.  The main machine, aside from telling the slave machine to do the work, appears to be idle.  Am I doing something wrong?
    Any help would be appreciated.  (I should add that on first start up of 4.1.3, the program crashed regularly.  I deleted the Compressor folder under Library/Application Support and deleted the preference files in Library/Preferences and got the program to work as I've described above).

    Do you have antiVirus installed on the sharepoint servers?
    These folders may have to be excluded from antivirus scanning when you use file-level antivirus software in SharePoint. If these folders are not excluded, you may see unexpected behavior. For example, you may receive "access denied" error messages when files
    are uploaded.
    Please follow this KB and exclude the folders from Scanning.

  • When installing Server 2008 Datacenter from disc, I get the error message "Windows could not parse or process the unattent answer file for pass [specialize].

    This is a clean install from s disc onto a 3TB GPT drive. This is for testing. I'm not concerned with finding a more practical solution for this installation.
    There is no image or answer file involved. But at the "Completing Installation" phase, I receive this error message about an answer file.
    Has anyone else expecrienced this problem? The only results I find here are regarding actual imaging with answer files.
    EDIT: [Redacted]
    EDIT 2: Since this now happens with every single installation of Server 2008 on this system, I feel the need to keep this open and elaborate on my situation.
    I originally installed Server 2008 on the 2TB partition of this 3TB drive. The partition type was MBR. I reinstalled it (there was a false alarm for malicious software) since it was a fresh install without updates or anything else installed. And for the
    second time, it installed fine.
    I decided to make the most of my 3TB drive and try GPT partitioning. So I went into the command prompt > diskpart > ran "clean" on the disk, then "convert GPT"
    That is when I tried another install of Server 2008 and received this error message about an answer file.
    I decided to convert it back to MBR and get on with what I wanted to test in the first place. So I went into Diskpart again, ran "clean", rand "convert MBR" and started the install. But this resulted in the same error message about an
    answer file.
    I went back to Diskpart, "clean"ed the disk, ran "convert dynamic" to make sure it was dynamic, then tried the install again, with the same result.
    Now, I've tried installing on the disk as GPT, MBR basic and MBR dynamic. I've tried a different installation disc, as well. I got the same result. At this point, I'm going to switch hard drives, but I'm still open to input. Thanks for reading!

    Hi,
    As you swapped the hard disk, whether the same issue occurs again if you redo the same steps?
    I asked "OEM or retail" because of this known issue:
    "Windows could not parse or process the unattend answer file for pass [specialize]" error message when you perform an in-place upgrade in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2425962
    An answer file may already contain in the disc which causes the issue.
    If issue still exists you can click Shift + F10 during the installation process to see the log. Check if the installation error for detailed information.

  • Server 2012 R2 SMB - The process cannot access the file '\\server\share\test.txt' because it is being used by another process.

    Hi,
    We are having issues with Server 2012 R2 SMB shares.
    We try to write some changes to a file, but we first create a temporary backup in case the write fails. After the backup is created we write the changes to the file and then we get an error:
    The process cannot access the file '\\server\share\test.txt' because it is being used by another process.
    It looks like the backup process keeps the original file in use.
    The problem doesn't always occur the first time, but almost everytime after 2 or 3 changes. I have provided some code below to reproduce the problem, you can run this in a loop to reproduce.
    The problem is that once the error arises, the file remains 'in use' for a while, so you cannot retry but have to wait at least several minutes.
    I've already used Process Explorer to analyze, but there are no open file handles.
    To reproduce the problem: create two Server 2012 R2 machines and run the below code from one server accessing an SMB share on the other server.
    Below is the code I use for testing, if you reproduce the scenario, I'm sure you get the same error.
    We are not looking for an alternative way to solve this, but wonder if this is a bug that needs to be reported?
    Anybody seen this behavior before or know what's causing it?
    The code:
    string file =
    @"\\server\share\test.txt";
    if (File.Exists(file))
    File.Copy(file, file +
    ".bak", true);
    File.WriteAllText(file,
    "Testje",
    Encoding.UTF8);
    The error:
     System.IO.IOException: The process cannot access the file '\\server\share\test.txt' because it is being used by another process.

    Hi,
    There is someone else having the same issue with yours. You could try code in the article below:
    “The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process”

    If you wonder the root cause of the issue, the .NET Framework Class Libraries forum can help.

  • While deleting the virtual machine .vhd folder -- error msg : the process cannot access the file beacuse it is being used by another process

    When i am trying to delete the Virtual Machine folder/directory i get the below error. Virtual machine is turned off
    V:\>rmdir ME-EXCAS01 /s
    ME-EXCAS01, Are you sure (Y/N)? y
    ME-EXCAS01\ME-EXCAS01\Virtual Machines\1B1FD14E-B3F0-4232-9F96-2A871E879CD6.xml
    - The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process
    How to delete the whole folder ?
    Thanks

    Also, if your VM has snapshots and you delete it, you must wait for the snapshots to finish merging - the VHD files will be locked until then.
