Process monitoring task manager

Trying to add a process to be monitored on all machines,
i'm stuck at the task manager :
new task
-> Table Module
-> Process Monitoring
->Add Line
now i have to enter
Name
argv pattern
etc...
but all fields are mandatory on this windows
though argv shouldn't and user spec neither
my process doesn't have any args
if i put something here i'm quite sure it will not match the process
and i don't want to manually configure this on every machine
i suppose i have to fill in a bug
how do i do that?
sincerly
Philippe Leroux

ok, i figured this would be better:
addRow a=miro:1161 m=process-table+CheckProcs mgtObj=procstats/procTable/procEntry rowValues="name=toto,desc=titi,process=toto"
The command is currently running in the background.
>
The command has ended its operation.
print== addRow: Results 1/1 =========================================================
State=Fail
Message=At least one invalid field name exists.
================================================================================
so i figure name was a valid entry but not Entry Name
i figured desc is Entry Description since it is the mandatory field
how am i suppose to guess what they call the table entries?
i tried to list from the command line the table
hopping i'd have a clue on what it calls the entries
but no, it prints
Entry Name blablabla
not name,desc, and whatever
what do i do now?

  • Firefox won't start, profile manager won't start, but firefox.exe shows in processes list (task manager)

Firefox will not start, even though it is listed in my processes in task manager. Can't get profile manager to start either.
I have tried the following to no avail:
    - try to start FF in Safe Mode, doesn't load
    - started Windows Vista in Safe Mode, FF still does not load
    - turned off Kaspersky AV, FF still does not load
    - uninstalled FF, cleaned out user/####/AppData/Mozilla/Firefox folder, as well as ProgramFiles/Mozilla/Firefox folder, and cleaned our Registry manually from all references to Firefox. Downloaded FF 3.6.3, installed. still does not load
    - whatever i seem to do, does not fix the problem. When I try to start Firefox, no window appears. I can see the process starting in my task manager. I can "end process" and try to start the program again by double-clicking program icon. Process starts in task manager, but no app window appears.
I am frustrated and have just wasted 2+hours of my night trying to get this to work. Downloaded Google Chrome, unless there is a fix for FF (which I would prefer to use), i will have to switch to Chrome.
I can't pinpoint when this trouble started, but may have been after a recent Windows Update. I already did a System Restore to a restore point about 5 days ago (the oldest one available to me, and I believe that was before the FF trouble started). This has not helped either.
I have run a full virus scan with Kaspersky and a Full scan with Windows Defender. Nothing came up.
Anyone else been able to find a solution to this?

I found a way to make it work somehow but not really fixing the error... one day when I got really pissed off because FF just won't open, I clicked the icon and killed the enter button, then multiple FF windows appeared. I tried to open it with just a single hit of the enter or double clicking but it won't work anymore, but repeatedly clicking the enter button (mine works with just 3 hits, sometimes 6) seem to open it. And until now, I have no technical explanation for this.

  • Firefox won't open. No error messages, no processes in task manager.

Thought it might be an update issue as I was running FF 3.x when this issue started. I updated to 4.0 last night and it hasn't changed anything. FF opened and ran once, now not at all. No error message, no running process in task manager. Double clicking on the FF icon makes a busy icon, it shows in Task Manager, then goes away and never opens. Suggestions? =(
No new software has been installed since this has occured, I've run anti-virus software, etc.
    Thanks for the help.

    Restarting, reinstalling doesn't fix.

Photoshop Elements 11 will not open once closed unless I either stop the Process in Task Manager or reboot the computer.  I have tried setting the program to run in Administrator mode but this did not work. I am running the program on a 64 bit Windows 7 laptop, the process I need to close each time is usually "Photoshop Elements Editor exe*32'?"
    Can anyone help me please?

Just hangs until i kill process with task manager. Have uninstalled and reinstalled. Any suggestions? I don't want to upgrade to CC as I hate subscription services and often have internet connection services interuppted.

Which operating system are you using?
Resetting the photoshop preferences might cure the problem.
Press and hold down the Shift+Ctrl+Alt keys down just after starting the launch of photoshop 7
    (Shift-Command-Option on a mac)
Keep holding the keys down until you get a dialog asking if you want to delete the adobe photoshop settings file
    Press Yes

I have the same problem - every time I close firefox (using either the red x or by selecting file ---> exit) the program appears to close normally, but the firefox.exe *32 process continues to run. If I try to re-open firefox normally I get a message that the program is still running and I need to go into task manager and manually kill the process.
I could also kill the process from the command prompt, but both of those methods are slow and annoying. This issue has only been occurring for the last 24 hours or so; to the best of my knowledge I haven't downloaded any new software or updated any plug-ins that would have caused a switch from firefox's normal awesomeness. Norton doesn't show any new viruses or other nastiness on my computer.
I'm running 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium edition.

Hanging at exit is most often caused by an Extension or a Plugin.
    <u>'''Kill Application'''</u>
In Task Manager, does firefox.exe show in the <u>'''Processes'''</u> tab?

[[Firefox is already running but is not responding]]
    <u>'''Safe Mode'''</u>
You may need to use '''[[Safe Mode]]''' (click on "Safe Mode" and read) to localize the problem. Firefox Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode that disables Extensions and some other features of Firefox. If you are using a theme, switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes <u>'''before'''</u> starting Safe Mode. When entering Safe Mode, do not check any items on the entry window, just click "Continue in Safe Mode". Test to see if the problem you are experiencing is corrected.
    See:
    '''[[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]'''
    '''[[Troubleshooting plugins]]'''
    '''[[Basic Troubleshooting]]'''
If the problem does not occur in Safe-mode then disable all of your Extensions and Plug-ins and then try to find which is causing it by enabling <u>'''one at a time'''</u> until the problem reappears. <u>'''You MUST close and restart Firefox after EACH change'''</u> via File > Restart Firefox (on Mac: Firefox > Quit). You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window.

Lightroom 4.2 Win 7 64-bit  -have to kill process in Task Manager every time or can't launch Lightroom.   This seems like a bug?  Any suggestions?

Does sound like a bug. Consider reporting to Adobe:
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/new
In the mean time, I only have workarounds like start using a batch file.
Something is hanging it up upon exit, but I dont know what. Maybe a device or process/service? - did you try removing non-essentials? Check windows logs?

  • Firefox froze up. So I removed from computer and reloaded. If I close Firefox, can't restart by clicking on the icon. Have to end process in Task Manager. It then starts. Some links on some web pages won't work.

    Hi,
As I say in the question I don't know what happened but Firefox just stopped operating and then became erratic. So I removed the firefox programme from my computer and reloaded Firefox.
It now runs normally but I can't run Firefox on two tabs, only one, and if I close it down during a session I can't reopen it using the desk top icon. I go to task manager, processes, and end process for Firefox - then I can start it using the icon on the desktop.
I have also noticed that some links on a web page won't work - javascript is involved.
    Thanks for your herlp,
    Mike FD

It sounds like you are getting in a hurry.
If you force Firefox to close in a hurry, then it won't normally start until you re-start the computer. There are ways around this, but I'm not going to go into them right now.
None-force way to close Firefox down: Close the program and wait. Do something else. Firefox appears as if it is closed, but it's not. Firefox cleans out cookies and it's cache after you close it. That takes a few minutes. You can't restart it while it's doing house cleaning.
After it is done, then you can restart Firefox normally. You can watch it in the Task Manager.
The same applies if you are installing javascript. You have to wait a few minutes.
As for running it with multiple tabs, I usually have 5 or 6, or more, tabs open at a time. Have no idea what the problem is there. Firefox needs special permission by use of a pop-up option to close with multiple tabs open.

  • After updating to Firefox 4, it will not open. I end the Firefox processes in Task Manager per trouble shooting procedures; still not working. Removed and re-installed. No go.

Can I revert to an older version? I tried all your published trouble shooting procedures to no avail to get Firefox 4 to open. When I try to run it, there is a process running in the Task Manager but no task or program actually opens.
I never had any problems with previous versions.

There are various causes for this error, see [[Firefox is already running but is not responding]] for details.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • Can't open PDF files until I end Acrobat.exe process in task manager

I have Acrobat 9 Standard with all updates applied. Occiasonally when I try to open a PDF nothing will happen, turns out that I open the task manager and find that Acrobat.exe is still running. I end the process and then I am able to open the PDF file, the file is local on my machine, (not in outlook, not on the network) and yes it happens to many of my files. What is the fix so I don't have to do this exta step every time? Is it a problem with Acrobat, or maybe it is conflicting with something on Microsoft's End? By the way I am running Windows XP Pro SP3 with all updates applied. Please help me figure this out!

You could try downloading the Windows Sysinternals program Handle http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb795533.aspx
Run this from the command line passing either PDF or Acrobat as a parameter. This may help you diagnose what is holding Acrobat open.
i.e. At a command prompt type: Handle pdf (or Handle acrobat)

  • Why does firefox freeze and then doesn't fully release from memory, but I have to End Process from Task Manager?

Frequently, Firefox for Windows (Vista) freezes up. I click on a link or try to go to another web page and nothing happens. The icon in the tab is just spinning, with Connecting. but it never connects. Then when I close it - if it lets me. I click to open it again and a window pops up saying that Firefox is already running, to please close it before launching it again. I have to go to Task Manager and End task from the Processes tab. It is also a resource hog including the Plug-In Container.

The pluging container opens up unnecessary copies as the cookies/history are cleared, this is a known issue, it might be what you are seeing, and it is hoped to be fixed in some future release of firerox.
There are some hangs affecting some users, with symptoms being high cpu usage, occurring as bookmark changes or syncing is in progress, there is a work around for that.
Firefox hanging as you close it see:

  • Firefoxsometimes takes awhile to close. Periodically have to end process via task manager. 'Any ideas?

I close Firefox. It immediately closes and disappears from the task bar. At times, if I try to open it within 5 or 10 seconds after, it will display a message that '....Firefox is already running......' and will not launch Firefox until waiting for a few more seconds. In the last couple days, it has appeared to be closed when I close it (same scenario as above). But it is saying it is still open for an extended period of time - 30+ seconds. So I go into task manager and end the process. Then it will launch.
