Process/Server monitoring suggestions

I've seen a couple of articles recently ( (1) (2) ) on hardware and process monitoring and so was looking into implementing something. Currently, we just have an unsophisticated 2-Xserve setup, with a mix of synchronization and parallel running -- if the primary goes down, the backup is accessible (not doing IP failover), but I haven't yet set up a notification system or anything in the way of an automated reboot.
Does anyone have any recommendations? I was looking at the munin/monit article posted recently -- the nice thing about it is that it does process monitoring, so it would be possible to receive notification on something like MySQL or Apache hanging. I looked at the watchdogtimerd manual page entry -- it doesn't seem quite sufficient.
This system does not need to be super robust, but I'd prefer to set up a separate machine to help with reporting on the two Xserves, with the Xserves running a heartbeat monitor to check on the monitoring machine also.
It doesn't even need to be set up on an OS X Server, Linux would be fine (although we have a dormant OS X Server 10.4.x installation sitting here in an aging desktop).
Thanks for any advice!

  • Monitor Process Server Status

    Hi,
    Recently we had an example of a process sever going into the "unknown" state. We didn't know about the condition and jobs were I assume queued up for execution. Since they were not killed or canceled we did not receive any notification.
    Is there a simple method of monitoring the process server status that we can then leverage to send some notification in the event of a non "running" status. Thanks.
    Kind Regards,

    Hi
    Re: Thanks for the replies. We are on standalone version 6.0.2 SP11
    Not sure if this applies with the standalone version, but our Redwood CPS runs on SAP 700 SP15, but the patches I refered to earlier are found on the main screen of Redwood after logging in, and clicking on the 'Product Information' logo (Big letter i) in the top right hand corner. Should say something like:
    Version: SAP 7.00
    Build: M26.17-31458
    What build are you on?

  • How to monitor a Process Server or a Queue?

    Hi
    We are using Redwood CPS as our Enterprise Scheduler.
    In the recent months, the below issue has happened twice.
    The error message I could read in the Redwood Process Server Log is below
    JCS-116011: Permanent communication failure: Unknown Host : HOST.domain.com
    I am not sure what breaks the connection.
    Two Questions that run in my mind:
    1. Does this issue directly relate to any known issue anyone aware of?
    2. How do I setup monitoring on the Process Server or a Queue so that when they go down I get an e-mail or something at least?
    Can someone guide me please?

    Build M33.106 is not available in service market place yet.
    SAP informed that customer can not find information on the next build release date from Product Availability Matrix (PAM) or anywhere from SAP site.
    Is there a way to get his information from Redwood site? Like when is the expected date for next release of the build?
    Thanks

  • G web server monitoring

    Hello all,
    I am running a web site that is using the LabView G Web server to deliver various report results.  The entire site and all reports are written in LabView (7.1.1).  What I would like to know is anyone out there using any web server monitoring software for the G Web server?  I would like something that can not only notify me if the web server goes down, but could provide usage stats etc.  There is an issue in some of the reports that use Matlab code inside of the LabView, that will occasionally crash all of LabView with a memory location error.  Since all of labview crashes I cannot use a labview solution for monitoring.
    Any suggestions or recomendations would be appreciated.
    thanks

    Hi,
    That sounds good, except for the part about LabVIEW crashing   Did anyone ever look into the root cause of that error?  It's great to have the automated notification process in place, but perhaps it's worth looking into the origin of the crash itself.  If you have more information about this, I can try to help you with that!  You can also check out the knowledgebase for articles related to LabVIEW and Matlab and any problems using them.  You noted that the issue was with "some of the reports that use Matlab code inside of the LabView" - I don't think we ever attacked that aspect of it directly, outside of the exe suggestion.  Anyway, is it possible to implement the necessary features in LabVIEW exclusively?  If you can describe the nature of the code which is not LabVIEW native, perhaps I can direct you to a pure LabVIEW implementation which avoids the problem.
    Thanks and have a great weekend!

  • 10.5.7 broke Server Monitor

    Prior to the upgrade, Server Monitor worked fine on the local machine and worked fine from remote machines. Now it works on the local machine, but not on remote machines.
    I had Server Monitor up right before the upgrade and all was working well.
    I launched it after the upgrade and now I get the "CANNOTLOAD_BUNDLEERROR" and "Software is not installed properly on server" errors.
    Server Monitor is 1.7, it is the copy off the DVD and not one I downloaded.
    I've read through quite a few other posts, but most deal with initial setup, not the 10.5.7 breaking Server Monitor.
    Has anyone else had this happen?
    Any suggestions?

    Pope7 wrote:
    I got distracted and had forgotten about this until I was working on some things today.
    ServerMonitor is definitely running, and it still works fine locally.
    Just to be clear...
    Prior to the 10.5.7 update, Server Monitor on my remote machine pointed to the IP address of the server and not to a special LOM address, and it worked fine. Also, the server is only using eth0.
    I can find a lot of documentation on how to setup the LOM if you're setting up the server for the first time. But I can't find any on honge or setup the LOM now?
    In this case the entire LOM stuff probably doesn't apply to you. I tried to search XServe documenttion but only found the following snippet in XServe Setup ''Worksheet:
    Lights-out management administrator
    (Skip these settings unless your server is an Xserve with a lights-out management (LOM) port.)
    Give the LOM interface its own IP address. Don’t use the same address that you assigned to built-in
    Ethernet 1, even though it uses the same physical connector (port 1) on the back of the Xserve.
    The LOM administrator account is not the same as the Mac OS X Server administrator account that
    you configured earlier in the setup process, but you can use the same name and password if you
    want to.
    If Server Monitor worked remotely before 10.5.7 (but under 10.5 at least) then the whole LOM doesn't apply to your server. See more at

  • Server monitor not working (hardware monitor)

    Just finnished installing my brand new maxed out Intel Xserves. And the Server monitor isn't working.
    This thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=643361
    Didn't solve my problem. hwmond is running on the Xserves but each server line just says "Waiting for response". My /System/Library/ServerSetup/SetupExtras file doesn't even HAVE a Disabled key. It has Label, OnDemand, Program, ProgramArguments and ServiceIPC keys, but no Disabled. And the hwmonds is running anyway.
    I have opened server monitor on the xserve itself and tried to open it to itself with no luck. I have configured Lights out management by choosing Server->Configure local Machine and added another IP there with different login, but I can't connect to either IP. Firewalls are all turned off.
    Running /System/Library/ServerSetup/SetupExtras/hwmondSetup just says "already loaded"
    Server Admin works, I can log in and edit services. Workgroup manager also works.
    When i run the hwmond as root on the server, it says "Failed to communicate with the front panel" which could be due to hwmond already running, but I can't turn off the process since launchd (?) launches it again.
    When I choose "Configure local Machine" the password I entered is always blank, but maybe that's by design.
    Since these servers aren't installed yet I have them in my office and their IP's are temporary, so I read this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106830
    And it says that for this environment I should set the hostname to "localhost" in /etc/hostconfig. Done. Nothing changed.
    I've googled this and searched here but found nothing. I'm running out of options... What should I do?

    I set the server on a desk and do a fresh install off a DVD with the "erase HD" option. Then I install and configure the software I need (Software update, Sophos, power options, etc.) I did not configure LOM at that point, because I wasn't sure how to do it, and I needed to deploy the server. (luckily LOM was easy enough to set up after it was deployed.) Once the server is ready, I connect a FireWire HD to it, which has OS installed on it and boot from that.
    That way my server is just an attached disk, and I use Disk Utility to create an image of it, which I then deploy on other servers.
    I've had an issue with the G5 XServes where such a method required relatively simple modification before the server monitor would work:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301046
    But, I've not had to do that with the Intel XServes.

    Re-installed it;
    Reopen it,
    No luck, same error message ...
    A friend's wedding reflash is set on 12/22, I have yet to open my Premiere?!!! Heeelp... Please...

    Hi, Jeff:
    My system is XP; before the premiere worked well.
    More detail story: Premiere could not open 3 days ago, no fix, some one sent me a crack software, I used it, no luck. Another nice guy told that is for non-legal Premiere, surely it won't work.
    I tried to remove Premirere; difficult; some one suggested me to use Adobe CS4 cleaner from Adobe. Then it was removed. I re-install Premiere; During the process, abnomal thing I remember was: I can't input product S/N, so I had to use 30-day trial.
    During the installation, it was stopped by Windows Installer issue, I restarted Windows Installer, then the process continued...
    I have two log files, don't know how to attach into this message. But, can't find any problem therein.
    Heverever, when I tried to open newly installed Premiere, error message says: ---can't open, reason is exactly same with very beginning: Can't communicate with Inporter Process Server....

  • Process Instance Monitoring

    During the Process Instance Monitoring mechanism, the data generated as process instances execute is initially stored in the runtime database. How can I configure the monitoring information to go into a database or a local file?

    Namrata,
    The run time bean information is also stored in the default database pointbase of weblogic.You can point this database to any other database like Oracle ,db2 etc.You need to run the databse scripts which you can find in the installed directory.
    You need to create a connectionPool,JNDI and need to use this JNDI name in the weblogic server Admin console.
    Or you can change the default database setting during the domain creation.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Server Monitor can't see server

    Machine and OS specs:
    2 x 2GHz Dual Core Intel Xserve using 1 x ethernet port
    OS X 10.4.10
    I have just installed a new Xserve set up with mirrored RAID drives which is working perfecty apart from the Server Monitor will not connect just giving the message 'waiting for response'. I have tried all the various admin and root passwords and even tried to connect from my older G4 Xserve with the LOM password, but get the same result. All other administration software works fine.
    I have searched various forums and advice sites, but the suggestions I've found have not worked. I read that the com.apple.hwmond.plist can be edited to <false/> from <default/>, but when I open the file in a text editor I get this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
    <key>Label</key>
    <string>com.apple.hwmond</string>
    <key>OnDemand</key>
    <false/>
    <key>Program</key>
    <string>/usr/sbin/hwmond</string>
    <key>ProgramArguments</key>
    <array>
    <string>hwmond</string>
    </array>
    <key>ServiceIPC</key>
    <false/>
    </dict>
    </plist>
    - already set to <false/>!
    When I try to connect to the server via it's Terminal by typing ssh -l adminuser (my IP address) I get the message: 'The authenticity of host '(my IP address) (my IP address) can't be established'. This leads me to think something else is up. I can ping it OK.
    I have tried pretty much everything I can think of including manually setting IP addresses etc, but I would really appreciate any help or advice with this one.
    Thanks.

    Hi
    On the XServe launch Server Monitor, select Add Server and in the IP Address field key in 127.0.0.1 or localhost. In the Name and Password fields key in the default System Administrator account details. Click on Save password in keychain and select a suitable Update every settiing. If you launch WGM you will see the System Administrator account already listed in the local NetInfo node (UID 501). Use the short name as listed in WGM.
    Although I have not had the chance to do this yet, but enabling Lights Out Management (LOM) opens port 623 which Server Monitor can use. This may allow for remotely using Server Monitor to monitor the XServe.
    Hope this helps – Tony

  • Process Server Log

    Hi all,
    is any further configuration necessary to view the Process Server Log in NWA BPM Troubleshooting? When logging on with administrator rights I don't see any entry.
    What exactly is logged there? All actions related to processes or only the server? So far I haven't found any log that shows the data (context data and log) for finished processes, is there a special log for it?
    Thanks,
    Mane

    Hi,
    You can monitor the processes using the Manage Processes application, which is part of SAP NetWeaver Administrator Operation Management. With this application, you can perform the following:
    u2022     Monitor process instances and view their details
    u2022     View the process flow of the instance and check the current workflow step of your process instance
    u2022     View all the running processes, failed process instances, or all processes in error state
    u2022     Search for process instances using the advanced search option
    u2022     Analyze the process instance details and take an appropriate action, for example, suspend, resume, or cancel a process
    Procedure
    1.     Log on to the NetWeaver Administrator (NWA) application.
    2.     Select   Operation Management  Processes and Tasks  Manage Processes  .
    3.     To display the process instances, perform the following as required:
    o     To view all the running process instances, in the Show field, select All Running Process Instances.
    o     To view the process instances in error, in the Show field, select Processes in Error State.
    o     To view the process instances that failed to execute due to infrastructure issues, in the Show field, select Failed Processes Instances.
    o     To search for a process instance, choose Show search pane and in the Find Process Instance field, enter the process instance ID. You can also search for process instances using the Advanced search option.
    4.     To view the details of a process instance, select the required entry from the list of process instances.
    The system displays the details of the selected process instance in different tab pages as described in the table below:
    5.     To temporarily stop a running process instance (with In Progress status), select the process instance and choose   Actions  Suspend  .
    6.     To start a process instance that is in Suspended status, select the process instance and choose   Actions  Resume  .
    7.     To cancel a process instance, select the process instance and choose   Actions  Cancel  .
    The process instance is canceled and all its related task instances are deleted.
