Processes in background

I am running a tcl script which calls a shell script, which in turn calls 4 shell scripts (for running 4 instances of an executable ). Please don't ask me why (all this), as this is some third party tool. Normally I would run this from scheduler but for debugging I have to run this on the command prompt.
I need to run this in background because this is a time consuming process and can take 10-12 hours and I am on a VPN connection. The connection will be lost after some time of inactivity.
I am not able to run this in background. I have tried "&" after the command and also nohup utility. As soon as I kill the session, the processes also stop (ps -ef). I am not sure why this is happening.
I need your expert views on this. Is this because of the strange way, the process is getting called or I am doing something wrong.

Two transactions, same program, processed in background task problem

Y0 Team ABAP,
i got something here that bugs me.
I have done a report. Nothing special, simple selection screen, selection of data, and output via SALV.
One of my selection screen fields (a parameter) is VKBUR and it is "obligatory".
2 weeks ago i got the requirement to create a copy of this program, and adopt VKBUR as select option.
Since i didnt want changeanomalies i decided not to duplicate the program, but just add a second transaction to my program.
In a routine at event at-selection-screen output, i´m hiding either the parameter or the select option, depending on which tcode was used.
In some routine which gets triggered at the event at-selection-screen i´m moving either what we got in our parameter to our local range we use for the select, or just assign the select option to our local range, or process an error message if according field is not filled. Yeah that obligatory condition is done by myself since i cant just set the obligatory addition to the statement.
This all works quite fine so far.
BUT:
Today i hear that the end-users process that report in background task by pressing F9.
Problem is now that when it is processed in background task, sy-tcode is initial, so i dont know which of the transactions the user picked, and so i dont know which of the two fields has to be filled.
Sure i could do another report, containing just my second selection screen, and when this is checked, do a submit on my real report, tho i still believe there must be some more elegant way.
Any ideas?

Unfortunateley those subtotals cant be handeled by the layout, thats why i manually add them.
But you got me back on track! right now i´m for your solution.
right now i´m having just ONE selection screen with the select option on it.
User can decide if he fills just one value or more.
In the end i loop over my output table and look if there are records of different VKBUR´s.
If there are i know he wants subtotals and process them. If its just data of one VKBUR i can spare myself the hassle as there is anyway just one records per VKBUR so subtotaling this wouldnt make sense.

Need help with parallel process in background; not able to call FM in bgnd

Hello,
I am trying since 2 days to solve the issue of parallel process in background without using FPP.
For which I want to call function module of class method in new task but to be processed by background process and not dialog.
I searched so many websites but everyone has suggesteed to 'call function in background task' . But the fact is the processing of function happens by dailog process even in this case.
I want to loop at table and call FM or class method inside each loop.
Kindly suggest me how can I call function or class method in new task in everycall and prcoess it in background.

It is advisable to Set "PO:Workflow Processing Mode" profile option to "Background" which is a default value
If you set it as Online, it completes an entire approval workflow process before letting you proceed to the next activity, but provides you with an updated Status (for purchase orders) as soon as it finishes.
When this profile option is set to Background, you must start the Workflow Background Engine, which you access through the System/application Administrator responsibility. It is recommended that you set this process to run frequently (Schedule), if you are using it for Background mode approvals.

How to get program which is been processed in background

Hi Experts,
      While doing PI sheet (CO60) the document gets posted for movement type 101 in MIGO which is processed in background. I need know which standard program is processed to get the document posted in background.
The two function modules are configured for this i.e pi02-COCM_PROCESS_RECORD
pi05 - COCI_CONFIRM_OPERATION. I tried to debugg by setting break point in these two funtion module but it is not getting triggered.
   The reason might be because the process ia automatic or any other. How can i find out how the document is getting posted the break point is not get triggered for any cases .Please suggest.

    The FMs pi02-COCM_PROCESS_RECORD and pi05 -COCI_CONFIRM_OPERATION
are called at multiple locations .Might be the place where u hav set the break point the FM is not getting triggered from that location but from the location where u hv not set the break point for the same FM.
    Instead set the break point in the FM definition. or set the debugging swith again where actually the posting is done.

All the Processes in Process Chain will be Scheduled in Background.

    I have a requirement where from inside a method , I have to process a report in background and this report should return a internal table with SAP data which have to be processed further .
   Can anyone suggest me is it possible to get a return internal table from a report processed in background .

Submit BDC to process in background automatically

How would I automtacally have my BDC session to process in the background and complete it without going through SM35 to process in the background.

Error in batch session processing in background mode

Hi ,
I am trying to do data transfer using batch session for transaction FD32.
Here the batch session is executing when I am processing the session in foreground.
Whereas in background mode it is failing.
Please check and assit.

Hi Kishore,
Probably it will be some information or warning message which is coming in the background execution of the session.
That is the reason your session is going into error. Run the errored out session once again in foreground mode. You will get to know the reason of failure.

Process Chain background jobs

Hi All,
we got a typical issue in Process Chain, every day process chain triggers in the midnight, and yesterday morning It got failed while activating DSO for HR data, and we observed that the jobs are running in the background for longer time (there are 3 jobs related to HR still running since around 24 hours). In order to run the following processes which are no way related to HR, we made turning red to Finish (to skip this process - using Function module RSPC_PROCESS_FINISH) to make sure other reports work perfectly. yesterday PC ran successful expect HR data.
Today morning we observed that the jobs are still running and also PC gets stopped in deleting contents of HR (after this we are loading HR DSO) . the process neither failed nor success. we checked in Sm37 and observed that job related to Delete content of HR data is also still running and in active status.
it is not allowing us to skip the process as we did for the HR DSO. So we thought to kill the job and Killed the JOB of delete content of HR data, and tried refreshing in Process Chain. But the variant is empty now and process stopped at before the Delete contents (which are another deleting cubes) now the process is at delete contents of CUbe (which is before step to the delete HR DSO), if we right click and check the options it is showing display variant and display messages.
We repeated the Process chain again it stopped at delete content HR DSO(back ground job running again and running longer time), the process is at delete contents DSO HR, (showing the box half filled).
how to skip this delete contents of HR data DSO, because we don't want to stop all the following processes(which are not related to HR) and how to make my PC ran successful (expect HR) to make my report working perfectly expect HR reports

Yes we can create PC for HR seperately.
Presently the thing is yesterday we din't loaded the HR data (as we skipped the process by forcefully finished the process using FM -RSPC_PROCESS_FINISH) , As the jobs are still running morethan 26 hours. Now DSO HR doesn't have any data, but the process has been stopped at the deleting the content of HR data (our assumption since the HR loading jobs running longertime causing this, job delete content HR is also active and running (while loading it is trying to delete it, so it might be locked)
But we need to skip the process of HR delete content now, inorder to run other process successful, (we can create other HR PC later) but can you suggest the solution for now.

Parallel processing in background

Hi All,
I am processing 1 million of records in background, which takes approximately around 10 hrs. I wanted to reduce the time to less than 1 hr and tried using parallel processing. But the tasks run in Dialog workprocesses and giving abap short dumps due to time out.
Is there any other solutions using that i can reduce total processing time.
Please note that i cannot split. I am getting 1 million records from a select query and after processing all those records in SAP, I am sending to XI and XI will post in legacy system.

By doing this your processing time will be highly optimized.
Go thru the description given in the code at each level.
This code Checks available WORK PROCESSes and assigns data in packets for processing. This way you save a lot of time esp when data is in Millions.

Parallel processing in background using Job scheduling...

Hi ABAP Gurus,
I have read a bit till now about parallel processing. But I have a doubt.
I am working on data transfer of around 5 million accounting records from lagacy to R/3 using Batch input recording.
Now if these all records reside in one flat file and if I then process that flat file in my batch input program, I guess it will take days to do it. So my boss suggested
to use parallel processing in SAP.
Now, from the SDN threads, it seems that we have to create a Remote enabled function module for it and stuf....
But I have a different idea. I thought to dividE these 5 million records in 10 flat files instead of just one and then to run the Custom BDC program with 10 instances which will process 10 flat files in background using Job scheduling.
Can this be also called parallel processing ?
Please let me know if this sounds wise to you guys...

Sourcing Cockpit: Document still being processed in background

Dear experts,
we are facing the following problem in SRM 5.0 extended classical szenario.
In transaction Sourcing Cockpit when I click on create PO I reach the "Sourcing - Document Preview" screen, where I can click on button "Process PO".
Everytime I click on button "Process PO" I get the error message "Document is still being processed in the background; try again later".
PO is created but in status HELD. I have to go to transaction "Process Purchase Order (BBP_POC)" in order to create PO so that status changes to ORDERED.
There are no entries in table BBP_WFLOCK.

Regarding your points:
1) It happens in almost 95% of the cases but as per now we could not figure out a rule when it happens and when not.
2) yes, it happens also after logoff.
For the user that is working in sourcing cockpit, the following entries are in SM12:
100 USER1 14:06:36 X CRMD_ORDERADM_H 10047BDCB4F6CD52BF8E1000000AC1ABC35 1 0

How to run a process in background?

hallo,
I'm starting a process with runtime.exec() like this:
Runtime r = Runtime.getRuntime();
String[] conv = new String[1];
conv[0] = "executablepath";
Process p=r.exec(conv);
Now I want that the application does not appear and run in background. How do I do this?
I'm working with Windows NT4.0

I've tried what you said, but the application didn't run in background.I made a daemonthread and the appl. ran but in the foreground. Isn't there a method to do it with with a command?

Idocs processes in Background

Hi
Maybe someone has posted this before, I've got a question to ask my understanding is if inbound Idocs is set "trigger by background program" in we20 and then job RDBAPP01 is scheduled then it will run in 1 background process.
If parallel processing is use then will use dialog processes based on server group configured.
My issue is why Idocs scheduled to trigger by background program (without parallel processing) still using all DIalog processes, I expect to just use 1 background process.
Have anyone experience this issue before ?

I know that for inbound interface it is possible to define if in foreground or background and if parallel processing is allowed.
Who knows how I can do this also for outbond?
