Processing resultset in Pro*C

Hi there,
I need some help porting some Ingres Embedded SQL procedures to Pro*C. Specifically, I'm looking for the Pro*C equivalence to the exec sql begin/exec sql end code below:
In Ingres Embedded SQL:
exec sql repeated select * from emp where start_date > :StartDate;
exec sql begin;
/* Do some processing here */
exec sql end;
The specified exec sql begin/end combination loops through the result set returned by the select statement.
Can anyone help with the Pro*C equivalent? I know cursors can be used, but they are not really an option at this moment.

The exec sql repeated construct is nothing more than a cursor in disguise. The Ingres database calls must be something similar to the PL/SQL construct
FOR record in cursor LOOP
-- do some porcessing
END LOOP;so I do not see your objection to cursors.
Depending on the number of records you expect to fetch, you could also use an array fetch in Pro C. However, if you are fetching more than 200 - 500 records (depending on the size of each record) this may not be the most efficient way to go. You already replied to this before I could press the submit button. Essentially, we were trying to make the same point.
