Processing XML using ODI

Hi,
I'm a novice new to ODI and would like to get answers to few of my questions.
Scenario
1) I have a set of XML and the schema(s) associated with them.
2) Want to process these XML(s) using ODI and storing them in a target DB.
3) Is it possible to process these XML as real time (i.e. XML(s) messages can come one after another) or ODI is used only for off line activity (e.g. to transfer data from source DB to target, when there are no transactions happening in the source system)
Is this possible to achive the above functionality using ODI? if yes what would be the constraints associated with it.
Any document, which talks about it?
Thanks.

Am I correct in assuming that you want to load the XML string into your database and not the values contained within the XML structure?
So if you had:
<parent>
<child>
<value1>1</value1>
<value2>2</value2>
</child>
</parent>
You would want the entire string rather than values 1 and 2 from the <value1> and <value2> nodes?

  • How to load data from oracle table to XML using ODI ?

    Hello Team
    I am trying to load data from an oracle table to an xml file. I have configured the physical and the logical schemas for the same. I have used SQL to SQL as LKM and SQL to SQL Append as IKM with Sunopsis Memory Engine as staging area.
    After this, when I am executing the interface, it is executed without any errors but to my surprise I am not finding the relevant data in the xml file. What could be the reason ?
    Please look into this and lemme know how to solve it.
    Thanks.

    Hello Phanikanth
    Even IKM SQL Control Append is not solving the problem. There are many " order columns" in the target xml table. I have not mapped them or specified any order. Does the problem persist because of this ?
    Thanks

  • Problem while transferring XML to oracle using ODI

    Hi,
    I need to transform a XML file to Oracle using ODI. i created the target oracle table as usual.
    I read the thread on "http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=1909900&#1909900" to create an XML model.
    Now my problem is while importing the XML model, in the definition tab, i had given the technology as XML, choosen the appropriate logical shema.
    In the reverse tab, i have choosen global as context and what should i do in the SELECTIVE REVERSE tab.
    I am not getting any KM in the control tab. so what is the KM for XML and how should i get that?
    Please anyone who knows help me...
    Thanks in advance,
    Ram Mohan T.

    When you do the reverse, you should be able to do a "Standard Reverse". No KM is needed for that.
    When you define an interface to move the data, you should use the SQL KMs to access the data in XML. You will need to have these imported in the project where you define the interface.

  • XML/XSD question (using ODI)

    Hi all.
    I have posted this in the ODI forum as well, but this may be a more proper place to ask for help.
    I'm working on a new dwh solution where the main source of data will come from XML-files. The problem is that we are having difficulties with the use of abstract types in the xsd-file. We currently use ODI to read the XML-files and to store the data in our database, but all fields from the XML-files are not visible in the target tables.
    The problem can be simplified like this example:
    We have a main element, testElement, which can contain one or more publications.
    Publication is of type PublicationType, and PublicationType is an abstract that contains title, author and date.
    We have four other types which extends PublicationType; BookType, MagazineType, NewspaperType and AdsType. They all contain additional fields.
    XSD-file

    When tables are generated in the database through ODI I'm not getting all the attributes present in the xml-file.
    Can anybody tell me if this should work (and, if yes, why it doesn`t)? Or if the XSD/XML looks wrong in some way?
    Is this a known limitation in Oracle or ODI etc.?
    Any pointers to documentation describing similar problems would also be helpful.
    Thanks,

    Hi, Bjørn,
    When tables are generated in the database through ODI I'm not getting all the attributes present in the xml-file.I don't know ODI, so I'm just curious here : what tables are generated? Is there one table per extented type (+ child tables for repeating elements), or just one Publication table with missing columns?
    I've looked at the other thread you mentioned on the ODI forum, and saw that you'd also want to store XML files in an XMLType table.
    I tested the schema registration in the database to see how Oracle reacts to the structure, and it looks OK, type extensions are supported.

  • Creating an Order Processing System Using XML and JavaBean/EJB

    Hi,
    I'm looking to design a solution for the following problem:
    A distributor creates a purchase order from a home grown system. This purchase order is sent to the company as a flat text file. This file must then be validated for both syntax and data values and then processed by their ERP system running on an AS/400.
    The solution I would like to provide is to place the data from this text file into an XML file and then create a system composed of server side components (either Java Beans or Enterprise Java Beans) that would parse the information and call the back end ERP processes (using business methods from within the beans). I have already developed a web app that processes orders using JSP and Java Beans. In this case however, the order will never be seen by a human unless it fails validation. I figured using XML to do this would not only be good for this part but also improve the e-commerce side as well. My only question is how to submit an XML document to a bean for processing without user intervention. Any information you can give me on this or even to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

    Hello,
    Thank you for responding to my question. I have several books here on XML but have not gotten very far in them as of yet. I understand how to create an XML document and a DTD, but I guess I haven't gotten far enough to understand how "submit" per say an XML page like you would an HTML form and then proceed to retrieve the data from the request parameters. I will research this further.

  • How to read xml-stylesheet Processing Instruction from XML using DOM Parser

    Hi,
    I am trying to read an xml that contains xsl stylesheet PI using DOMParser. The parse() method reads the entire contents of the XML except the PI instruction. Below is the XML I am using to read
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <?xml-stylesheet href="../../../lang/en-us/style0/usc_profile.xsl" type="text/xsl"?>
    <Oblix oblang="en-us" xmlns="http://www.oblix.com/" xmlns:oblix="http://www.oblix.com/">
    <ObProfile>
    </ObProfile>
    </Oblix>
    Can anyone let me know if there are any propery settings to be done for the DOM parser before parsing?. If so, what is the property to be set?.
    Thanks in Advance
    Muthu

    A COTS product builds the XML and inserts the respective xsl (xml:stylesheet) file name to be used for transforming the xml. I am trying to interrupt this xml and make some updations on an element and finally send the updated xml to the stream.
    For the above process, I parse the input XML using DOMParser and update the elements (some internal elements). While I view the final XML that would be passed to the stream, I found the <?xml-stylesheet... PI is missing.
    I somehow managed using a temp fix by doing the below. I manually pulled the PI using document.getFirstChild().getNodeValue() and reconstructed the PI and inserted it to the outgoing XML. This needs to be done every time. This might run into problems when more than one PI is used in the XML.
    If the parsed XML could get the PI along with it the above problem could be resolved.
    Is there any property that could be set on the parser (prior to parsing) to resolve the issue?.

  • What is the payload structure has to be used for AQ to process XML messages.

    Hi Experts,
    We have an IBM MQ and Oracle AQ has to be be linked to that.
    MQ always contains XML messages and same message will come to AQ.
    Now I want to create AQ. What is the payload structure(object) has to be used for AQ to process XML messages.
    Please help me.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    using XML type data in AQ you have to define a special AQ payload type
    (corresponding to MQ):  QUEUE_PAYLOAD_TYPE = 'SYS.MGW_BASIC_MSG_T'.
    An example template for enqueueing looks like (you have to transform
    from XMLTYPE to the MGW payload type):
    DECLARE
       queue_options      DBMS_AQ.ENQUEUE_OPTIONS_T;
       message_properties DBMS_AQ.MESSAGE_PROPERTIES_T;
       message_id         RAW(16);
       v_message          SYS.XMLType;
       v_clob             CLOB;
       v_payload          SYS.MGW_BASIC_MSG_T;
       v_text_body
    SYS.MGW_TEXT_VALUE_T;
    BEGIN
       v_message      := SYS.XMLType.createXML('<SAMPLE>hello world</SAMPLE>');
       v_clob         := v_message.GETCLOBVAL();
       v_text_body    := SYS.MGW_TEXT_VALUE_T( NULL, v_clob );
       v_payload      := SYS.MGW_BASIC_MSG_T( v_header, v_text_body, NULL );
       DBMS_AQ.ENQUEUE( queue_name         => 'my_queue',
                        enqueue_options    => queue_options,
                        message_properties => message_properties,
                        payload            => v_payload,
                        msgid              => message_id);
    END;
    Kind regards,

  • In what circumstances would need to use ODI as a complement to a deployment of EDQ?

    Im about to do a presentation about Oracle Enterprise Data Quality and Oracle Data Integrator.
    In my understanding if I use ODI  to do ETL/EL-T tasks, ODI needs EDQ jobs to perform advance Data Quality procesing. In that escenario is perfectly understandable the implementation of both ODI and EDQ solutions.
    If I does not have any solution to do ETL/EL-T task, and my objetive is mainly do data cleansing, (take a set of data, cleaning it, and write the results on a database) why I would need ODI? There is a feature that I could need from it, that I do not have in EDQ for this purpose?
    This doubt came to me, becouse I found a lot of references that makes me think that this two solutions are codependents.
    Thanks for your reply!
    regards.

    Hi,
    This might help. Note that ODI and EDQ are normally sold together for Data Warehousing scenarios, though arguably data profiling, at least, is important in nearly all new projects that use ETL/E-LT technology.
    Some customers, especially MDM customers, do use EDQ for their ETL requirements, as these tend to be simpler than data warehousing scenarios where load plans and data aggregations are important. ODI also has more comprehensive connectivity than EDQ, for example for Mainframe systems.
    We are also seeing a trend for ETL/EL-T to be done strategically in such a way that it rarely needs revisiting for new projects; for example when a new system is onboarded, the key data is replicated or ETL'd into a standard holding area which is then used for any projects which require data from many source systems. This means that EDQ very often takes data output from ETL/EL-T without necessarily being embedded in the ETL or data replication flows.
    Very often both ETL and DQ are required
    It’s not the size or complexity of the transformation that is different, it’s the nature of the transformations – syntax or meaning?
    ODI will do all sorts of denormalisation/normalisation for populating star schemas that would be complex and slow in EDQ
    EDQ will do all sorts of things that improve the business value of the data that ODI would never do
    Data volumes are unlikely to be a guide as to which toolset would be used for a particular task

  • PL/SQL procedure to process XML file

    I am just starting to work on xml, and we are using PL/SQL stored procedures to process xml file. I did find the sample code in the package (family.sql). This sample print out all element names and attributes. My questions are :
    (1) I tried to modify the code to print out the element values (or Node values). Here is the code:
    -- get all elements and values
    nl := xmlparser.getElementsByTagName(doc, '*');
    len := xmlparser.getLength(nl);
    -- loop through elements
    for i in 0..len-1 loop
    n := xmlparser.item(nl, i);
    dbms_output.put_line('NodeName: ' &#0124; &#0124; xmlparser.getNodeName(n) &#0124; &#0124; ' ');
    dbms_output.put_line('NodeValue: ' &#0124; &#0124; xmlparser.getNodeValue(n) &#0124; &#0124; ' ');
    end loop;
    However, it did not print out the values, although it did print out the name. what's wrong with it? how can I get the value?
    (2) I have the following xml file:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <profile>
    <id>1</id>
    <name>Company</name>
    <des>master profile</desc>
    <subprofile>
    <subid>1</subid>
    <subname>group1</subname>
    <subdesc>group profile</subdesc>
    </subprofile>
    </profile>
    now, I'd like to print out all the children of the <subprofile> node, that is <subid>, <subname> and <subdesc>. Here is my code:
    -- get subprofile nodelist
    qnlist := xmlparser.getElementsByTagName(doc, 'subprofile');
    -- get length of the nodelist
    len := xmlparser.getLength(qnlist);
    -- loop through elements
    for i in 0..len-1 loop
    qnode := xmlparser.item(qnlist, i);
    qnnode := xmlparser.getFirstChild(qnode);
    qnchild := xmlparser.getFirstChild(qnnode);
    dbms_output.put_line(xmlparser.getNodeName(qnnode));
    dbms_output.put_line(xmlparser.getNodeValue(qnchild));
    LOOP
    if (xmlparser.isNULL(xmlparser.getNextSibling(qnnode))) then exit;
    END IF;
    qnnode := xmlparser.getNextSibling(qnnode);
    qnchild := xmlparser.getFirstChild(qnnode);
    dbms_output.put_line(xmlparser.getNodeName(qnnode));
    dbms_output.put_line(xmlparser.getNodeValue(qnchild));
    END LOOP;
    end loop;
    when I execute the procedure, I get the following output:
    #text
    I am not sure what's wrong with it. Basically, I didn't know the procedure to traverse the tree since here it's a little different from OO programming. Could someone give a sample code which demonstrate the procedure which can get a specific element's name and values? (for my exapmle, the name and value of the <subname>, or <subid>, <subdesc>).
    Also, is there a way to insert a part of xml file into a DB table? in my case, insert the subprofile into a table. I know the xmlgen package has a procedure to insert a xml file into a table, but not a part of xml. And can I insert a xml file into several tables instead of one table, using xmlgen package?
    looking forward to hearing from you. any suggestion and sample code would be helpful. thank you very much.
    null

    I sloved my first question: to get the Nodevalue, I need to use getFirstChild(n);
    But, I still didn't figure out the second
    problem. Actually, It works when I modified my xml file as following:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <profile>
    <id>1</id>
    <name>Company</name>
    <des>master profile</desc>
    <subprofile><subid>1</subid><subname>group1</subname><subdesc>groupprofile</subdesc></subprofile>
    </profile>
    All the <subprofile>....</subprofile> must be in one line without any return. This is unbelievable! It suppose that xml does not matter new lines. I tested my code, it seems space is fine, but new line. Something must be wrong in my code.
    please give any suggestion. Thanks,
    Yudong

  • Problem in JAXB for processing XML files

    hello
    I have been working on a project where i need to process data in XML format. the flow goes thus
    I have 28 data elements that i need to represent as a XML so i compile the schema files and generate the class files for each of the tags and thus i can use the get and set methods to read and write to a XML file respectively(example getName and setName)......
    Now the problem is that my coding is done if i change my xml file and add say 2 more tags how do i handle it in my code.........
    1>Do i have recomplie the schema file and generate new class files every time the xml structure changes. can i avoid this recompiling process and use a one time genrated class files even if the xml structure changes.
    2>Now i have hard coded the get and set methods for processing the xml file if i add new tags to my xml i wouldnt have the get set methods for the new tags in my code(say i add a new tag as Phone then i wouldnt have the codes getPhone and setPhone called in my code and this tage was added after the coding was done)........how do i handle this situation. Is is possible that i can get and set data without using these methods and use some sort of a dynamic way of getting and setting data.............
    3>Any other approach available to meet the above requirements other than JAXB.
    Please help for the above problem
    Thank you

    hi,
    i had written a xml and schema to validate.
    my xml would be
    <output>
    <table>
    <row>
    <column></column>
    <column></column>
    </row>
    </table>
    <document>
    <properties>
    </properties>
    <contents>
    </contents>
    </document>
    <table>
    <row>
    <column></column>
    <column></column>
    </row>
    </table>
    <document>
    <properties>
    </properties>
    <contents>
    </contents>
    </document>
    <table>
    <row>
    <column></column>
    <column></column>
    </row>
    </table>
    <document>
    <properties>
    </properties>
    <contents>
    </contents>
    </document>
    </output>
    schema should validate : each table should contain atleast one row element and each row element should have atleast one column. similarly, each document should have atleast one properties and contents element.
    if any of these things occur. for ex: if there is no row element in table, i need to delete the table tag. similary if there is no properties/content or both element in document it should delete the corresponding document from the xml.
    i tried for table if there is no row element am getting the line number of the </table> tag, based on that am deleting the table element. if there is no properties tag and contents tag is there. am getting the line number for <contents>start tag, with which i could not able to delete the whole document.
    can anybody plz help me out for this requirement

  • Parsing an XML using DOM parser in Java in Recursive fashion

    I need to parse an XML using DOM parser in Java. New tags can be added to the XML in future. Code should be written in such a way that even with new tags added there should not be any code change. I felt that parsing the XML recursively can solve this problem. Can any one please share sample Java code that parses XML recursively. Thanks in Advance.

    Actually, if you are planning to use DOM then you will be doing that task after you parse the data. But anyway, have you read any tutorials or books about how to process XML in Java? If not, my suggestion would be to start by doing that. You cannot learn that by fishing on forums. Try this one for example:
