Processor utilization with DAQCard

I have an application that is based on the Labview 6.1 cont acq to file example.
I have a DAQCard –16XE-50 PC Card acquisition card. When I run the program, CPU utilization increases to 99% and other programs are sluggish. How can I tell what mode the acquisition is using (polling or interrupt based- I know the card has no DMA). I am looking to acquire signals in the 1-10 kHz range. Do I need to go to a different system (IEEE?) for portable use so I can do data acquisition and still have processor time available?

Hello John,
Your problem might be that the AI Read.vi is blocking while waiting for data to arrive. Here's a test you can try. Run the Cont Acq&Chart (Async Occurrence).vi and check your CPU clock while it runs. This example doesn't read until the data has arrived.
There is another trick you can try which might be more easily integrated into your application. Put your AI Read.vi inside another loop and set the "number of scans to read" to zero (from a shift register). You might also need a small loop delay to free up your processor. Each time the AI Read.vi is called, monitor the "scan backlog" until you see there are at least the number of points you want to read. Then the next time through the loop, set "number of scans to read" to the number you
want.
Best Regards,
Doug

I have IMac OSX 10.9.4, 4GB,Processor 3.06 with Intell2Duo. I would like to check for Malware. I run a TechTool Pro 6 every month and that comes up great.
When check how much memory I am using, with only Safari open I am using 3.9 and more of her 4.0 memory. She is very. very slow in processing. I had 4000
trash to clean out and it took her over an hour to expel. Also for some reason Safari will not allow me to click on a link, in my G-mail, and let it go to the page.
It has a sign saying a pop-up blocker is on and will not let me do it. I must open the stamp to look at my e-mails and if I have redirected link now I can do it.
I have not changed my preferences so where is this pop-up blocker?
I have looked at preferences on Safari and Google, which I do not understand Google, and do not see where this blocker could be.
Malware is something I want to make sure is not on my computer. Tech Tool Pro 6 is all I know of and it does not detect Malware.

    Hi,
Compatible processors for your notebook ( and the replacement procedure ) is detailed on Page 81 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Considering the speed of your current processor, it would look like the first Four are Ok - I would always recommend checking this with HP first before purchasing.

  • Exactly what 3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core  i7 processor is shipped with an iMac 27 in?

exactly what 3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core  i7 processor is shipped with an iMac 27 in? For numerical computation alone (no graphics), how does it compare with the Mac Pro 3.33GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon “Westmere”?
    thanks

From what I've read, it's the Core i7-2600. As to performance, if you do a web search for "iMac Core i7 3.4 benchmarks", you should find a lot of information.

  • Digital IO with DAQCard 1200

    Hi!
Does someone know the maximum datarate for digital I/O with DAQCard 1200 (PC-Card) ?
Is it similar to the 1MHz limit on the AT-Bus?
    Thank you for your help.

    Edmund,
The digital lines on the DAQCard-1200 do not have hardware timing associated with them, so the maximum read/write rate will depend on software timing.
This means that the read/write will depend on how fast your code can execute. One thing to remember is that as other programs call for CPU time you application code will slow down and if nothing else is using CPU time your application will run faster up to a point.
If you need hardware timed digital I/O I would recommend using a DAQCard-6533.

  • Processor backing plate with K8N Neo

    Hi,
I am waiting for my K8N Neo to turn up (placed order with Dabs last week), I have just got my OEM 3200+ and also a Scythe Samurai heatsink, the problem is though the heatsink does not come with the backing plate for underneath the motherboard. It says that you should use the one that comes with the processor or motherboard. Seeing that I have an OEM processor there is none with that.
So my question is will I get one with my K8N Neo, and if not where can I get one? I do not want to be in the position where I get the motherboard and then find that I cannot build the PC for another 3 or 4 days.
    Thanks for the help,

  • Can the Dual 1.8 GHz processor be replaced with the Dual 2.5 GHz?

I don't know a lot about processors and compatibility, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this upgrade is possible.
    Thanks!

    Hi-
A lot depends on the series of the G5. Even within a specific series, say late 2004, processors of different speed had different boards, power supplies, etc. There are other factors beyond the physical as well.
Even the action of removing and replacing the same processor requires the system to be thermally calibrated. There is more to a G5 than the individual components. G5's are the sum of the components, some tied to another with no alteration to even series possible.
My thought is a simple processor swap as described would not work.

  • How do i find out if a cpu processor is compatible with my laptop?

I have a 2000-2a22NR Notebook PC and I want to upgrade my cpu. Right now it has a 1.4GHz AMD Dual-Core Processor E1-1200. I want to put one in that has at least 2.6 GHz or more but I cant seem to find out if I even can or witch ones will work. I can find the specks here on hp but it only says what I have not if I can or witch ones are compatible. I know that some notebooks cannot be upgraded this way and I know if I can I need one that is compatible with mine. What I need to know first off is IF I CAN and if i can i need either a list of ones that will work or something to refer to when I go to buy one. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME TO LOOK IT UP!!!!!!!! I have been trying to all day long. HOURS i have spent just trying to find out if i can so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me it means a lot.

Here are the specs for your HP 2000-2a22NR Notebook Computer. Here is the HP 2000 / Compaq CQ58 - Maintenance and Service Guide for your computer. Compatible CPUs are listed on Page 1, Section 1, Products description under AMD models.  CPU upgrades only valid on models with Intel processors. On AMD models, the processor comes with the system board and cannot be removed. Look it up!!!

  • 2 Square signal to frequency with DAQCard ?

    Hello,
    My configuration : PC portable P4 / 1.8GHz, Win 2000, Labview 7.0, DAQCard AI-16E-4, BNC 2110 and two magnetic speed sensors (6000rpm, 120 top/rotary)
    1) I would like to recorde the two frequencies with the two counters of the DAQCard. Can I do it with my configuration (2 counters are enough ?) ?
    2) Can I synchronize these two inputs with analog inputs ? If not, which configuration I need for ?
    Thanks a lot,
    Yvan

You can make a frequency measure with only one counter. This method use
the internal timebase as source and your input signal as gate: the
process take the number of clock period in a period of your input to
    compute it's frequency.
Accuracy of this method is quite good if the input frequency is small
compare to the internal timebase. So with the sensor you described:
        6000rpm => 100 rotary per second
with 120 top per rotary => 12000 top per second
The AI-16E-4 use a 20MH internal timebase, so I think there is no problem
    More information about frequency measurement...
For the synchornisation, I'm not sure to clearly understand what you
need, but take a look to the DAQmx timming and DAQmx start trigger VIs.

  • PowerPC Processor not compatible with CS4 software...

I have the PowerMac G5 first release. I recently purchased the Adobe Master Collection. Some of the programs are not compatible with the PowerPC Processor. I just upgraded my RAM and OS so I would hate to have to buy a new MAC just to run these few programs. Is it possible to link the mini Mac to the G% and have the Intel required programs on the mini MAC? If so how does it work?

the sound or video programs will NOT run on PPC, period. Adobe is pretty clear about this.
yes, you will have to buy a new intel mac. I wouldn't get anything with the intel graphics or last year's closeouts. get the newest & most CPU / graphics you can afford. If you are in Mini territory, get the base one, add the faster CPU. do the RAM & HDD yourself, as long as you don't break anything, it won't viod the warranty.

  • M200: Processor works only with 600MHz - Why?

I have observed that when you change pcb set for a laptop irrespective of the processors speed it runs at slowest that is 595/598 MHz.
Have you observed this? What is the reason behind?
    What is the solution?
If the processor is having 256MB/512MB RAM this things wont affect a large but for 1GB & 2GB the machine performance become very problematic.
I have tried updating DMI this didnot helped.
    Re-installing os also didnot helped.
    BIO upgrading also didnot helped.
I'm also not very sure about this problem having any relation to pcbset change.
With the good machine I have found the way is dynamically switching capabilities of a processor from bios.
In few machines that are giving problems i didnot observed this option in BIOS.
    The machines are PortA200 & Port M200(tablet).
can any one help me. I need to justify this to customer.
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi
This issue occurs after motherboard changing. Usually after mainboard changing it is very important to make any tests and diagnostic procedures. Without this procedure the CPU will work only with fixed 600 MHZ.
You should contact the Toshiba service to solve this CPU issue.

  • Low Processor Utilization

    Hi,
I am trying to write code that does a little bit of array manipulation and some simple trig to do something fairly time critical. I noticed that the processor utilization on my machine was awfully low, never really exceeding 50%. Perplexed, I tried to write some very simple code (an infinitely run while loop doing some simple math to the iteration counter) and ran that. Even with this simple code, the processor utilization did not improve. As stated before, I'm trying to write something fairly time critical, so the higher utilization, the better.
The computer I'm running this code on is admittedly not the top of the line - an Intel Atom Z530 1.6GHz with 1GB of RAM. However, I'm fairly limited in my choice of hardware (note that memory utilization is no where close to pegged, either - with my code, and the simple loop).
Is there anything I can do to increase utilization? I've tried turning debugging off, with limited luck.
    Thank you.

Well, 50% is within a factor of two of the max you can possibly get and that's not bad. .
In terms of math, that atom of course sucks. While it is hyperthreaded, it only has a single core and a very small cache (the advantage is that it only uses 2W of power). Trying to maximize CPU usage if of course the wrong approach. You might be able ot speed the time critical computations up by a factor of 10 by using a better algorithm.
What is the exact OS version? Can you get it to 100% CPU if you run two parallel while loops without waits?

  • So confused: Prem Elements 9.0 or the new 10.0, laptop with i7 processor or quadcore with XP Pro???

I bought a Panasoninc SD700 camcoder a year ago, knowing that the editing part was not solved then. Now there's enough video material to do something about it. And then the jungle expedition with possible mines starts!
Bought today a Sony VAIO laptop. Good price (I think). It has an i7 processor with 2,0 Ghz and 8 GB RAM. It had Premiere Elements 9.0 pre-installed. I played with it tonight but the imported AVCHD (mts) files from the SD-card lags when using the software! Isn't the processor power enough? This new laptop has a blu-ray-player installed and Windows 7 Premium, 64 bits.
I have also an older stand-alone PC with Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor, 2,4 Ghz, 3,25 GB RAM, run with XP Professional Service pack 3. This computer does not have a blu-ray-burner. I heard, though, that they can be purchased and connected with USB.
So what do I do? Buy another Prem Elements 9.0 for the standalone pc and hope that the editing works there? Wait for Prem Elements 10.0 and install it - where, which computer if at all? Upgrade the laptop processor to something better - but what, does i7 have dual core?
Can't you just make a video on your pc without burning anything and then play it from there connected with HDMI to the HDTV?
Help! I don't know what to do!
    Wildwest63

Thanks a lot Steve! I feel a bit calmer. When browsing through different forums you easily get worried, because it seems nobody knows for sure.
Just to make sure: the Premiere version 9.0 that was installed on the VAIO couldn't produce a steady flow when the AVCHD-files ran thru. But you mean version 10.0 will manage? Has version 10.0 capabilities that version 9.0 didn't have? I have no problem buying version 10.0 but I cannot buy and test and find out that it didn't work again. That's getting too expensive.
I am not shooting in 60p with the camcorder. I read that it was hardly possible to see a difference between 60i and 60p and 60p takes twice the space. I also heard that there was no program out there managing to edit 60p. Even 60i on the new flat-tv screen (from Sony) is such an awesome improvement from my old camcorder (DV tape) back in 2004, that everybody is amazed, even guys that are normally very technically skilled - which I am not.
According to the sales guy the VAIO has no blu-ray burner, just a blu-ray player. But I suppose it has some kind of burner anyway? Haven't checked that out. The stand-alone pc has no blu-ray burner. But is it an option worth trying to buy a blu-ray burner and connect with a USB-cable to either machine? When the blu-ray disc is ready I can put it into the VAIO and connect to the HDTV and show the movie. I have no use for an ordinary blu-ray-player.
If this workflow is okay will I then get the same result on the tv screen as I get today when connecting the camcorder directly to the HDTV with a HDMI-cable? No loss of quality?

  • I need to acquire 6 channels (voltages) on a PDA with DAQCard AI-16E-4

    Hello all,
This may be an elementary task, but I can't figure it out. I recently upgraded to a PDA collection system. My first task is to collect 6 voltages, at approx. 200 HZ per channel, for about 2-3 minutes. I have noticed that in DAQmx Base I can only set up three channels per task. Can I use two tasks at the same time? Will this cause a time delay between collecting each of the 2 channel groups? Maybe there is a way to collect all 6 with one task?
Also, I would like to either dump these voltages to a file (.txt, or something that can be read in Matlab or Excel). I have not seen an example that does this, is it because it's not possible? I could also send the info via bluetooth to a laptop during the tests, but that seem like it might be complicated. any suggestions?
Thanks, these forums have helped me a lot in setting up this system.

    Tom,
Thanks for the reply. Since this post I have figured a few things out. I am now collecting 6 channels and storing them in a txt file readable with Excel. So that is good.
The one thing I'm trying to confirm is that I am not losing any information due to overwriting memory. I need to acquire continuously until I hit the "stop" button, and once stop is hit I need to be sure that I have stored all acquisitions, i.e. the card buffer is empty and no data lost. I'll attach the VI that I am using. How should I set up my channels in the config utility?
As far as software, I'm using DAQmx Base 1.0 and the LabView PDA Module 7.1 to work on the VI and build it. If there is an easier way to do this task, i.e. another VI that is simpler, or a different program (you mentioned DAQ assistant) I am interested.
    Thanks much!!
