Procurement using webbased catalogs

Hello everyone,
we are using the OCI (Open Catalog Interface) for procurement (me51n, me21n) in an ECC 6.0 which works fine with one default catalog. Now we are looking for an solution for connecting several vendor catalogs with the SAP-system. Our options so far are:
     1) Setting up a website where you can select different vendor catalogs.
     2) Coding an selection screen which is referring to different vendor catalogs stored in customizing.
     3) Using a 3rd party application which is not really an option.
Are there any other alternatives or best is there an SAP-standard for this problem?

Hi Micha,
There is very little documentation available for an OCI connection to MM. So could you please elaborate how you did set up that connection in the customizing?
All I could find was SPRO - Materials Management - Purchasing - Environment Data - Web Services: ID and Description.
Both PM and PS seem to offer a lot more option for their OCI integration, like assigning different catalog, converting field values etc.

Hi Gurus,
My client is implementing Punchout Catalog from SAP ECC 6.0. we are not into SRM server. I made the settings in Web services ID and Description and i am able to do shopping from Vendors URl and return back to SAP ECC.
Now 1) they want to populate the Vendor name automatically into SAP, which is not getting carried.
2) I want to link the Punchout Catalog to Work order scenario also. For that i need to define the Order type and Catalog in the Link "Interface for Procurement Using Catalog" under the node Plant Maintenance and Customer service which i am not getting.
Please advice me what needs to be done or what settings or any BADI needs to be activated on this issue.

Hi.
1. I would guess that it is your vendors catalog that maps vendor ID/Name wrong. Check the source before exiting from the catalog (or add /h as hook_url parameter for test purposes)
2. Here you need to active an extension in SPRO. I think it is EA-SCM (Activate Business Functions)
You can also maintain the PM-catalogs, call structure etc. in the following tables without activating the extension:
V_TMW3T Define catalog
V_TMW03 Call structure
V_TMW02 Assign catalog to plant and order type
IOCI_FCONV convert HRML to SAP-fields
IOCI_FCON2 Convert HTML Field values

Hello all,
I like to have a lot of explications for this cutomizing for a flow PM.I would like call a catalog if I create order PM never pass to EBP sytem.
If I finish this customizing Interface for <b>Procurement</b> <b>Using Catalogs (OCI)</b> in R/3 system who R/3 taking all informations for a catalog when a order PM has been created.
There is a button to use a catalog if a transaction IW31 or IW32 has been executed or not?
This version SAP is ECC5.

here are high level steps for PM/OCI:
- SPRO: Maintenance and Service Orders -> Interface for Procurement Using Catalogs (OCI) --> Define Catalogs
- SPRO: Maintenance and Service Orders -> Interface for Procurement Using Catalogs (OCI) --> Assign Catalog to Order Type
As of SAP ECC 5.00, PLM Extension (EA_PLM 500), you can call up an external catalog in a maintenance order or service order, a maintenance task list or a network, and copy services from this catalog into the order or task list or network.
You also now have the option of storing multiple catalogs for each of the following criteria:
- Order type and planning plant
- Task list category and plant
- Network type and plant
If all this customizing is OK, a little "Catalog" button will appear in maintenance or service order transaction.

Trouble using one catalog on an external hard drive on two laptops

I have had LR set-up trouble-free on my old laptop. The catalog and all related images are stored on an external hard drive. I was running Windows XP.
I have recently bought a new laptop (running Windows 7) and last night installed LR onto it. I plugged in the external hard drive, opened it and imported new photos. Everything was fine.
Today, I've tried to open LR and I get an error message saying "Lightroom cannot open the catalog named LIGHTROOM MASTER because it is not writable and cannot be opened. This could be caused by incorrect permissions or because another Lightroom application is using the catalog. You may try to correct the problem or you may select a different catalog." I then get three options - Choose a different catalog, Try again or Exit.
If I choose a different catalog, and try re-choosing the same folder on the external hard drive, I get the same error. If I try again, I get the same error.
It does say the catalog can't be on a network volume or in read-only folders. I noticed the read-only box was ticked when I looked at the properties of the folder (which is wasn't previously) so I unticked this and updated the folder. Is Windows 7 doing something to my folders on the external hard drive which XP wasn't?
Has anyone else had a similar problem?
How do I get my catalog on my new laptop?

When you first opened the catalog on new Win7 laptop, was it the same catalog that you used on old laptop?
You may indeed have permissions set for the catalog folder. They could belong to the user of the old laptop. Did you try checking the permissions on the new Win7 laptop?

Open Pictures folder and move the files named lrcat-journal and lrcat.lock to Desktop.
Make sure that , they are not inside Pictures folder any more and try to open backup from Lighrtroom and check..
Any LRcat file with .lock extension , move it to Desktop.

I figured it out. You have to select the actual logo of the Lightroom catalog and then click on "get info" and allow what ever your new user name to "read and write". That worked!

Hi Keyur,
Normally control file of a database is used to each and every modification done to that database. In case of taking backup using RMAN, control file is used as repository(If catalog is not configured). But there is a risk when we depend on controlfile for backup information. If database becomes corrupted and unable to mount then at this point we can't use control file as a source of information. Due to which our restoration and recovery process becomes tidious.
To overcome this situation, we configure Recovery catalog where all the information regarding backups are stored. this recovery catalog is handled thru the command ' catalog'.

Anybody tell me why use RMAN CATALOG and what benifits if i have create catalog ?

No we have to configure it. I see. But did this user understand that when you quoted my reply ? We need to understand that a lot of users who post here need help and may not have the level of knowlege you have. So, a response like that adds more problems to the one they already have.
So even if you are using nocatalog, if it is not configured to auto backup and it is not backed up, you can still loose your RMAN repository.

Hi Simbu,
The mentioned program works only in 11i, as R12 follows different mechanism.
Yes, to load the items and categories to iProcurement mentioned programs are must in 11i.
Need to make sure, item got a list price in the purchasing tab and purchasing category is published to iProcurement.
You should run Catalog Data Extract - Classifications prior to running Catalog Data Extract - Items program.

Is it possible to use JPA Catalog & Schema in MySQL?

Could anyone explain the difference between JPA Catalog and Schema when using MySQL database? Below is an example where I have successfully used both Catalog and Schema to reference different databases:
@Table(name="CUSTOMER", catalog="catalogName", schema="") // Worked
or
@Table(name="CUSTOMER", catalog="", schema="schemaName") // Worked
but NOT
@Table(name="CUSTOMER", catalog="catalogName", schema="schemaName") which resulted the following database exception:
JDO76609: Got SQLException executing statement "CREATE TABLE catalogName.schemaName....

Not sure whether MySQL support the use of both Catalog and Schema at the same time, or do they both mean the same thing which is just database instances? In other word, it does not support the idea of defining a Catalog within a Schema, or vice versa. Likewise, MySQL seems to use Catalog/Schema as database instance interchangeably with both on the same level. This means that an application will likely be required to create many database instances to be used in place of Schema.
My understanding of the use of Catalog and Schema would be: catalogName.schemaName.CUSTOMER or schemaName.catalogName.CUSTOMER but does not reflect how MySQL work.
It would be interesting to hear from others who has used MySQL as the underlying JPA database.

I have been interested in how lightroom uses the catalog so was poking around a backup of the catalog. I found it rather concerning that although the database (catalog) is pretty well designed, there is no referential integrity defined or enforced.

I am a database administrator and I found it rather concerning that although the database (catalog) is pretty well designed, there is no referential integrity defined or enforced. This is non-standard practice and could well be the source of corrupt catalogs I have seen many people complain about. I would strongly recommend the developers modify the catalog and adopt best practices if they want to improve the stability of Lightroom and the catalog.

I would imagine that data integrity is not enforced for performance reasons. In a closed environment like LR where the application has complete control over the data, enforcing data integrity may not be worth the performance hit. Often what is done in an environment like this is to have data integrity on in test environments which would expose data integrity bugs but where the impact of performance is low. In "production" it is then turned off to get as much performance as possible. I would say there are many more complaints about performance than corrupt catalogs. And corrupt catalogs are more likely due to interruptions in writing to the catalog (like crashes, backups or dropbox activity while LR is running, etc). Data integrity would not help in these cases as they are outside the databases control.

Hi Antonio,
If I have understood your question correctly - you are looking out to buy products within ECC system using SRM system
If this is the case, you can do 2 things-
1. You can replicate all ECC products to SRM and buy them from standard SRM shopping cart functionality; wherein a search functionality would be avaialable to find out a perticular replicated backend product. Regarding maintenance of prices for these products- you can use 'interlinkages' withing SRM. You can maintain separate price of different vendors for a same product using interlinkages.
2. I am not sure about CCM but if SAP MDM is in your scope along with SRM, then you can replicate all ECC products as standard catalogs items to MDM from ECC. This would require XI as a middileware. Once replicated you can use these catalogs from buying purpose withing SRM
