Professional Edition Pricing Question

OMG Adobe is really going off the rails here.  I have a few general questions about the Professional Edition (Annual vs. Monthly) that NO ONE in Adobe Sales 800# could answer for me.  I'm trying to sell the idea of a digial magazine to my print client, and I literally cannot do so without getting all the details tied down prior to my client meeting.
Basically I need to know what are the pros/cons to buying the Professional Edition Annual over the Monthly service?
Will I be able to access Omniture Analytics any time I wish for each Magazine I publish - regardless of Annual or Monthly subscriptions?
Also, if we purchase additional .folio downloads, do they expire after a certain period of time?
OMG - I will kiss the feet - send flowers - name my first born after whomever can answer these questions.

Hi,
Both DPS Pro Annual and DPS Pro Monthly are 'annual contracts'. It is not possible to sign-up for just a month and then terminate the contract. The main differences between the two
With Pro Monthly, you'll be billed (through your creditcard) per month -- this option is sold online through Adobe.com
With Pro Annually, you'll be billed for a full annual cycle (upfront - through a regular invoice) -- this option is sold through DPS resellers
There are a lot of companies who just want to use the regular 'invoice' cycle instead of going the creditcard route.
DPS Pro Monthly will include 250 folio downloads in the first contract
DPS Pro Annual will include 5000 folio downloads in the first contract
Additional folio packages can be downloaded (smallest being 10.000 downloads). These packages are pre-paid and valid for a year from the moment of purchase. The package becomes obsolete when it has reached "0" or the period of one year since purchase has passed (whichever comes first). It is possible to buy multiple packages at the same time, or multiple packages in a year.
The Analytics dashboard will be available for both DPS Pro offerings.
Feel free to reach out (in this conversation) or through a private message if you need additional info
With kind regards,

  • Siebel Professional Edition migrating to Siebel Enterprise Edition Question

I've got a customer who originally deployed Siebel Professional Edition (SPE) but is now looking to migrate to Enterprise Edition as their company has grown.
Does anyone know what the practical impact of that may be to their implementation (if any)?
Does SPE use the same code base as Enterprise Edition - so in essence it's a licensing construct rather than having any technical differences?
I've searched to try and find any info, discussion related to this point but have drawn a blank.
Any feedback, guidance, input much appreciated!

    Hi,
From what I recall as a Siebel employee it is the same code base with just some restrictions on what you can do to customize. There are certain things in Siebel Tools you cannot do for example.

  • How the download folios bundle work with Professional Edition?

    Hello everyone,
I have been trying to get information about some specific questions without luck.
    This is the scenario:
We need to develop a newsletter for a company using the Apple Enterprise membership.  First wave will be iOS devices only.  Second wave will include Android devices.  The newsletter will have around 4 issues per year.
    1) Using montlhy membership, are the folio downloads accumulative?  Newsletter1, Newsletter2 will give us 500 downloads for the first year?  And after that, purchasing the 10,000 will distribute the downloads between all of the folios we have published?  The number of available downloads are assigned to the user profile instead of individual apps?
    2) Does the folio downloads expire?
    3) If we are not using iTunes to distribute the newsletter, how do we keep track of the downloads? Does this happen in the application when installed?  And this opens the question if we really need the download fee if we are not using iTunes?
    4) If using the Creative Cloud (which only works with iOS devices) will gives us unlimited downloads, right?  Does this type of folio work with the Apple enterprise membership?
    5) If we create the first wave using the Creative Cloud service, and later we get the Professional Edition, can we "transfer" folio information from the CC to the new Service?
    I already called:
877-792-3623 as published on the professional's edition page (they say only can help with Enterpise) and sent me to 1800-443-8158 (Volume Licensing) which didn't know the answers.
I'm trying this way because it was kind of frustrating trying to find the answers by phone.
Please, any help would be great.

    1) I'm not sure what you mean by "accumulative". See http://www.adobe.com/products/digital-publishing-suite-pro/buying-guide-pricing.html for the included downloads. If you buy monthly then you get 250 downloads per month, and only one month worth will carry forward. If you buy the annual version you get 5,000 downloads, but again, those do not roll over to your next year of service. Folio bundles apply across all publications in your account, not to an individual application.
    2) The ones included in your monthly or annual subscription expire at the end of each month or year. A folio bundle purchase expires one year after the date of purchase.
    3) For calculating download bundle consumption that's all done by the application itself, not iTunes. The DPS dashboard at http://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com/ will show you the download counts for your publications.
    4) Creative Cloud only gives you access to building Single Edition applications. That's a complete, self-contained, application with your content inside. There is no ability to download additional content into the application, and therefore no download charges and no "unlimited" downloads. It's just a single, self-contained, application in the app store.
    5) If you start with a Single Edition application and then want to switch to a multi-issue application you'll need to make a new multi-issue application with App Builder and submit it to iTunes as an update to your existing application. Your existing content used to build the SE application can easily be re-published (if necessary) so it shows up in the new multi-issue application. Your readers will see an app update available, download it, and then have the multi-issue experience inside the app. If you are charging for the newsletters it will be problematic granting previous purchasers of your Single Edition application rights to the same content in the multi-issue application.

  • Clarity on Single Edition vs. Professional Edition

    Hi Guys,
    I am just trying to make the decision on whether I need the professional edition or whether it’s not worth it. I was hoping some of the regulars here might be able to answer a few questions;
What happens if you buy 10,000 folios and you sell 10,001… does it automatically top up, do you get billed later, or is that extra person blocked from downloading the app until you buy more folios?
What happens with your unused folios – do they simply become available to the next product you release? What happens if you cancel your subscription, or never sell more than 10,000? Are they refunded?
If you have the Professional Edition, can you choose to still release apps as a single edition (as in free of the folio download costs) when required?
Is there any way you can release an App through the single edition service, whereby it has an expiry date. For example, if the user downloads the app and in three months you want to make it so they can’t open the app again (they have to buy a new issue, for example) can you do that?
I currently have a Creative Cloud membership, which comes with the Single Edition DPS. If I roll over into the Professional Edition, does it replace my existing package? So I have Creative Cloud plus the PE features?
    Many thanks
    Chris

I'll answer the ones I know for sure off the top of my head.
    2. Unused folios are available for any issues and publications you produce under your professional edition account. You can have multiple titles available, for example, and they all share the same bundle of folio downloads. If you cancel your subscription they are gone and are not refunded.
    3. Yes.
    4. No.
    5. They are separate. Professional Edition *only* gives you DPS publication capabilities. You still need to maintain your Creative Cloud subscription if you want access to Adobe software like InDesign, Photoshop, etc.

  • Switching from Professional Edition to Single Edition

    Hello,
I am considering downgrading my app from Professional Edition to Single Edition with the CC. I have some questions I cannot find on the FAQ.
How do fulfillments work for a Single Edition?
Our app is free. Do we still have to purchase fulfillments? Are unlimited downloads/views included?
    Is the webviewer option available?
Can I submit and launch additional single folio apps upon approval from iTunes?
Are single edition apps available for iPad only?
I am finding conflicting information. On the comparison chart it shows that you can PREVIEW your app on multiple devices. Can I launch an app on iPhone, Android and iPad?
I currently meet all the neccessary requirements for my app. Certificates, Apple Dev license, and everything is set up with iTunes Connect. Can this information "roll over"/be applied if I cancel my professional Edition and move to the CC Single Edition?
    Is social sharing available?
Your help is appreciated. Thank you

How do fulfillments work for a Single Edition?
There are no fulfillments in Single Edition. The content is packaged into the app you submit to Apple. Bob Levine has a good place that explains the basics of Single Edition vs. multi-issue apps: http://boblevine.us/digital-publishing-suite-101-single-edition-vs-multi-folio-apps/.
    Is the webviewer option available?
    No.
Can I submit and launch additional single folio apps upon approval from iTunes?
With a Creative Cloud account you can currently create as many Single Edition applications as you want, but those are individual applications. See the link I posted above for more details on this.
Are single edition apps available for iPad only?
Correct. Single Edition apps are only supported for iPad.
Can this information "roll over"/be applied...
Your iTunes developer account and certificates are completely independent from DPS. You can use the same developer account and certificates to create Single Edition apps as a Creative Cloud customer.
    Is social sharing available?
    No.

  • New restrictions imposed to users of the Digital Publishing Suite (professional edition)

We are a communication agency and we have just be informed by Adobe about the new "rules" imposed to users of the Digital Publishing Suite (professional edition). We are outraged by these practices: Adobe abuses of its leadership position on the market and hold us hostage.
We currently produce institutional magazines for one of our big clients. These magazines are produced in several languages and contain several thematic folios: therefore we manage several individual apps (multi and simple folios). We are planning to add more content and to develop new apps.
The new restrictions imposed to us by Adobe call into question our digital activity. If we follow the new rules, we now will have to buy 6 or more licenses instead of only 1 before. Given the fact that our corporate publications are not sold like commercial magazines, the rise in production cost is unacceptable. We can't forward the significantly higher fees to our client either who will quit the project for sure.
We have chosen the Adobe platform after a careful analysis of its functionalities and its production costs. We trusted Adobe and the DPS platform but the new rules invalidate our choices and overthrow the projects already developed with our client (needing continuous updates), the investments we have made so far in training and development and finally the profitability of the agency itself.
We therefore ask Adobe to come back on its decision and to apply responsible commercial practices with regard to agencies. We also ask Adobe to make sure that agencies that built their digital activities around Adobe tools can plan these activities correctly in the long run and obtain decent returns on their investments. We thus invite Adobe to reestablish the trust it is currently destroying.

This topic is being discussed in detail here.

  • Using Adobe Digital Publishing Suite, Professional Edition

    Hello to everyone,
I'm intrested of using the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite in my work and i have a few questions.
First of all, I want to make some newsstand application for apple and then for android. I got about 5-6 different magazines that each one maybe can publish 5-12 issues annualy.
In which license can i use the software for as many as magazines i want (that means e.g. 10 apps, each one for each magazine)?
What is the cost for that?
    I appreciate your time,
    Thanks in advance,
    Nick

You can either purchase DPS professional or enterprise edition. In both edition you can create ios including newssatand and android apps.
Professional Edition is available as an annual agreement or a month-to-month subscription.
Professional Monthly subscription purchased through the Adobe store will cost US$495.
Professional Edition Annual subscription purchased through Digital Publishing Suite Channel Reseller Partner and the Adobe store will cost you US$5,940
Enterprise Edition is available through a custom quote based on platform, service, and support fees.
Below are the links you can compare features in editions:

  • Agency Model for Professional Edition?

Someone from Adobe on an earlier post mentioned that when one has their own DPS Professional Edition subscription, they may create apps on behalf of other clients and then their clients may either choose you to host and sell their content with Apple or do it themselves. This is known to be the Agency Model and I was told, several times in fact, that this was not available for any edition of DPS except Enterprise Edition.
I would appreciate an official answer from Adobe on this matter. Thanks.

Lohrii Alo, do you work for Adobe?
First, I am the publisher of Focus Publishing. We publish Focus Magazine, Folios and Exposures as well as work with photographers who are looking to publish fine art books with high quality printing.
I've been working with Adobe products since '95 right before the PowerMacs came out. So I was working on Photoshop 3.0 with the old LCIII's. Anyway, about 8 months ago I was faced with a problem. Photographers want to have their work published and want to be paid for it. So I provided a solution to their problem using Adobe DPS; building an app for a photographer that would get their work out there and they would be paid off of sales of their app downloads.
The problem is that Apple absolutely refuses to publish anything e-book in its own app without a great deal of interactivity and even then, approval is still not guaranteed. The solution was to do what I'm already doing with Folios and Exposures: Create an entire fine art photography magazine revolving around their photography. Then, I offer the same solution to galleries who want to publish exhibition catalogues but can't afford the printing costs: Develop and sell a digital exhibition catalogue and sell it inside of the App Store.
So far, we only have one title that has been finished, but we're working on 4 others and have a lot of interest from other people. Everything is published under my Apple developer account (Focus Publishing). I have a 2 year agreement with the photographers that guarantees me not only their monthly payment but also that I will be the exclusive distributor of their content on any of the mobile device platforms as an app for the contract term. If they want to cancel - they can as long as they pay me for the remainder of the contract.
We share a DPS account with someone else, but it's only Professional Edition. I sure would like to have more of the bells and whistles that Enterprise Edition serves up, but I'm not there yet financially.
Anyway, as long as I am the one distributing their content, I don't see any problem with this business model if I'm expecting a percentage of sales.
The premise of your question is that the client actually wants to deal with Apple, Amazon, Android, etc. and DPS and wants to update the App when updates become available. Most people don't want to deal with that and want to actually only deal with their own business.

  • Siebel CRM Enterprise versus Professional editions

Can someone point me to a link that describes technical differences between these 2 Siebel CRM editions/versions.
Details I'm looking are capacity, supported users/license, growth.
Also, recommendations if it is worth to invest now on the Enterprise edition as opposed to the Professional edition -- if it will take perhaps 3-5 years later before a company would grow and the Professional edition will not suffice anymore.
    Thanks.
    allan

I've posted this thread 4 days ago and surprisingly getting lots of views -- but not a reply.
At the same time, I'm trying to perform research on this as well but could not get a good information even from the tons of articles from Oracle site. Mostly I find from Oracle regarding Siebel CRM are marketing information I find not much of use for this post.
I believe this question is very basic and Oracle should provide good details regarding this.

  • Professional Edition Month-by-Month

We are creating a digital magazine using Adobe's Publishing Suite. However, I have a question.
I want to create multi-folios under one magazine title so people can subscribe to the magazine. The professional edition offers that. But if I cancel my subscription and resubscribe later, can I continue creating folios under that title?
We are only releasing four editions of our magazine a year. So it doesn't make sense to purchase a full year's worth. So can I subscribe for a month, cancel my subscription, then resubscribe three months later and release a new folio (edition) under that same magazine title? Or do I lose access to my titles when I unsubscribe?
And when I unsubscribe, will my magazine/folios be taken off the app store?
We do have Creative Cloud if that makes a difference.
    Thanks!

Its a shame there isn't a halfway house between single edition and Professional, over £300 per month is a barrier to entry for small design agencies that have maybe just a few clients that want a digital publication service. Its not a big cost if you have lots of clients regularly using it, but getting a step on the ladder is costly

  • Professional edition

    Hi,
I have a question regarding the professional edition. Is it possible to make and publish more than one multi-issue application (I mean a library with a few folios) with only one professional edition license?
    Thanks!
    Nick

Yes, with a professional subscription, you can create multiple applications.

  • Professional Edition Account for different customers

Suppose I'm a free-lance designer. Can I use my Professional Edition Account for publishing folios for different customers?

Download Bundle Fees is applicable to Publishers not end users.
Built in Single Issue Apps : No Download Fees.
Multi Issue Apps: Each download whether free or retail gets deducted from your folio download balance.
With DPS Pro Annual you get 5000 free downloads for the first year and with Pro Monthly Free 250 downloads per moth for the first year.
You can purchase additional folio bundles:
         • Pricing starts at US$0.30/.folio file for 10,000-.folio bundle

As you mentioned that you are upgrading your Operating System to Windows 8 and MS Office to MS Office Professional 2013, please note that Adobe Acrobat 9 is not compatible with Windows 8 and MS Office 2013.
