Profiles in N900

Hi,
Is it possible to create and/or modify the profiles in the N900?
Mine got only Normal and silence.

you can create new profiles using an app called tweakr which you'll find in your app manager

  • N900 profiles + BH-804 headset problem/question.

    Hi,
    As said in the topic this is about my n900 and my BH-804.
    Connecting my headset with my phone with Bluetooth works perfectly fine though.
    My problem is though when someone calls I can hear it from the phone speakers and my headset when I got public /allmänt(Swedish) on profile. And if I choose silent I don't hear in my headset or my phone when it calls.
    So what's my point?
    Well... What I want is that I want my mobile to be silent and only hear the ringtone with my headset. So I called nokia support and they said nothing could be done about it.
    Is this correct? I mean why do nokia not have this feature? Is it only me or something that want this and is it any way I can fix this on my own?
    Maybe I should ask maemo forum if someone could make a program or something to change this.
    Still I thought it was best to ask here first.

    Originally, when the phone rang, it would only ring through the head phones... ringing through the headphone and speakers is a *new feature*
    When on silent, it doesn't ring anywhere. it would be possible to fix this in software though.. have a look on the talk.maemo.org forum, there's very possibly something that can help already

  • *My* frank opinion of the N900

    *My* opinion of the N900
    I know there are a few threads about that address this but I felt that it wouldn't be so bad to restart the conversation once in a while.
    I got my N900 a week and a half ago and am right in the middle of deciding between these 3 choices:
    - keep using the N900
    - go back to my N97 and keep the N900 in the hope that within a few weeks/months Maemo and apps will vindicate us
    - go back to the N97 and send the N900 back and wait for months until Maemo gets updated or even wait for the next Maemo device.
    Here is in summary my opinion of the N900: it's a great device/computer but it's a lousy phone. I am kind of critical of the phone below even though I really like it and really want to use it more. So please read with that in mind.
    What makes me optimistic is that all the problems I will be mentioning can and most will be fixed by software updates. We are not talking about dismal memory or scratched lenses like the N97 or wobbly sliders like the N95.
    So please be kind, here goes my N900 impressions/opinions:
    Hardware
    ++++
    - Solid build. It's huge and heavy but, surprisingly, I don't mind too much. It strikingly contrasts with N97. this is a taste thing.
    - Keyboard is great. Much better feel than N97.
    - Humongous amount of RAM (for now. Once again, aslight dig at N97)
    - Device does not fit in my Columbia khakis' phone pocket.
    - I really like the tilt flip of N97 and as such currently dislike the flat slide for N900. I'm sure this is an acquired taste.
    - I prefer the keyboard layout of N97 though the physical keyboard on N900 is better.
    - Kickstand is flimsy
    - I still think MicroSD slot should be accessible without removing battery cover. Yes, it still allows for hotswapping so that's still good.
    Maemo
    ++++
    - Multitasking is great.
    - Task List shortcut *and* effects are nice.
    - Effects in general are great.
    - I liked the desktops and widgets.
    - I *do* want my portrait mode for everything. This is a huge downer. Everything is in ladscape except the phone dialer.
    - Maemo should implement the "hold-the-key-to-get-the-alternate-character" keyboard scheme that is fairly standard on other Nokia phones.
    - On the virtual keyboard, why would the '.' not be on the same slate as the alpha? Makes no sense to have to switch to the other slate just to punctuate.
    Communications
    ++++
    - I did not think Skype integration would be that important but I love it. SIP and other networks from the dialer as well.
    - I goes and gets your contacts' profile info when you are logged in to a network (Skype, Google Talk, etc) Pretty handy.
    - eMail app does HTML. And pretty well too.
    - Need a way to easily get to the phone app from anywhere.
    - No support for network codes *#num# etc...
    - No Speed dialing
    - No sound profiles! My Nokia 6310 and SE T39 from 2001 did this! **bleep**?
    - No Skype video calling (Fring does it!)
    - eMail app should allow me to view emails in fullscreen mode.
    - The whole message notification system is not very well thought out. If I leave for some time and just unlock the phone, there is not obvious way to tell that I got any new messages. It's only when I do a task list flick that I see that a conversation has resumed. Yes, the notification light flashes but nothing obvious is on the display.
    - There is no obvious notification that I have missed calls. Same as message notification above.
    - It seems to me that the internet connection is never disconnected. Even when all I have that needs the connection is the email app to poll every 30 minutes, the internet (whether 3G or Wifi) icon never goes away. This could be a huge battery saver if optimized.
    - On the flip side, it also appears that if I just turn on the phone, it does not automatically initiate internet connections so then my email does not get refreshed unlees I remember to do it first by hand. Pretty inconvenient if you ask me.
    Music Player
    ++++
    - It's ok. Not a big critic so I am neither excited not negative about it.
    - A FM receiver on the device but no FM software? **bleep**?
    - Creating playlists is not clear. I still am sot sure how it's done after 10 days.
    Video Player
    ++++
    - Broad format support
    - No support for changing setting when watching a movie. I have some 16:9 movies that it shows at 4:3 and vice versa with no way to change. This makes it useless.
    Web Browsing
    ++++
    - Browser is very good.
    - Love the (albeit limited) gesture shortcuts. Slide from left to hover (ok this one isn't that cool or clear,) slide from right for history, spiral on the screen to zoom in or out.
    Maps and GPS
    ++++
    - GPS lock is much faster than other phones I've used. This is great in conjunction with Camera for geotagging purposes.
    - I don't know what the Maps application is doing on there. It can't do anything. Search finds almost nothing, directions are barely average and no turn-by-turn. Please at least steal or beg Google to make Google Maps for Maemo.
    Camera
    ++++
    - Pretty decent. Better than N97 in my opinion.
    - Geotagging is much faster than N97 even though it seems to tag too early so sometimes it's off because it uses the cellular info before a full GPS lock.
    - Love the 16:9 mode. I realize one can do it post in Gimp but it's still cool.
    - No Xenon flash means photos not as good as N82 in the dark.
    - Once again, same problem as with N82, when taking a portrait photo, Nokia decided to put lanyard slot on "top" of the device which makes the lanyard sometime get in the way of the shot.
    - Photo browser could be so much more.
    Applications
    ++++
    - Fennec, anyone? http://firefox.com/m
    - Obviously, I wish the Maemo catalog of apps were as big as that of Symbian apps but we'll get there, right?
    Office/Organizer
    ++++
    - PDF viewer included.
    - Pretty basic so close to useless.
    - No syncML support so can't sync with GooSync or NuevaSync.
    - I think a device of this caliber/price/power should just have office applications built-in. I don't care if it's DataViz or OpenOffice or AbiWord/Gnumeric but it's bunk that we only get a trial of Documents-to-Go. Anyone know if OpenOffice or AbiWord is coming out for Maemo soon?
    Other
    ++++
    - I am on T-Mobile so 1700 3G rocks.
    - I love doing apt-get in the command line. I am a geek!
    - This has been talked about everywhere and opinions/mileage vary but for me battery life has been dismal. As a test, I charged it up before going to bed: 9pm and by 7am it said it was half empty. All I had running was my mail checking every 30min and all my "identities" were inactive. No Wifi usage just 3G. It dies by 11am. This was after a week of cycling so that battery had a chance to be normalized.
    - Wifi also killed the battery even if it was not connected all the time. This is a known bug so it should be fixed soon.
    - For a > USD500 device, it's stupid that I don't get a full User Guide in the box.
    - Why do they insist on Ovi store. It's **bleep** for Symbian phones, it'll be **bleep** for Maemo.
    As I said, some of these are already on the Maemo bugs database, some are widely known issues and some are just personal preferences that may or may never be remedied.
    I hope it helps people who are thinking about getting the device and I am hoping that the feedback I get here will help me decide whether to return mine or not.

    So it appears that almost none of the firmware fixable items were addressed in Maemo 5/PR1.1. Out of the 23 issues I had that could be fixed via firmware (10 were either hardware or other issues that were not), only the #6 got a partial (and unofficial?) change: you can now browse the web in portrait mode by keying in ctrl+alt+o on the keyboard. Still waiting for another update I guess. I really do miss the phone, it just did not make sense to own and tie up that much money in a device I will not use as my primary phone. although the < USD450 price at Dell is very very tempting ;-)
    Still waiting, Nokia.
    For reference, below are my issues from original post.

  • How to sync the N900 calendars with the computer?

    Good evening everyone,
    I am a user of the N900 since February 2010 and it's my favorite phone of all the phones that i ever had. I really enjoy every second when i use it
    However, I have a "little" trouble now.
    The touchscreen doesn't respond normally anymore. When I touch it there's no reaction. The Calendar app or the Settings for example don't open. When I touch in the middle for example something completely different opens: desktop configuration. When I slide from one desktop to the other it stops in the middle and goes back to the previous one instead of moving to the next one. Or sometimes there's no response at all and I have to restart the phone, although it doesn't improve anything. I don't know how this happened because the other night I could normally use it, I set an alarm clock. And in the morning I couldn't turn this alarm off because the screen broke down during the night lol :/ what can be done to make the screen work again? Can I do something myself at home or do I have to take it for repair?
    So now I want to make on the laptop a backup of all the data I have on the phone. There was a moment when the screen worked normally again, so I took advantage of this situation to turn on the Bluetooth. I synced most of the data. It's a piece of cake for the pics, videos, contacts and messages. But I am unable to find a way of syncing the Calendar. Ovi Suite doesn't have this option so I tried with Nokia PC Suite. I managed to sync only a part of all the entries I have there :/ I realized that it syncs only the default one ("General" I think it's called in english?). I have 7 other calendars like "Work", "Fun" or "Events". How can I save those calendars on my laptop? Please
    Any advice/help is most welcome! Waiting

    Are you people serious? Sorry for being so direct, but this is supposed to be a help forum for Nokia users. NO ONE is able to give me even 1 solution??????? or at least hints??
    As always I can't count on others for help and have to do everything myself even though I'm not a smartphone geek. After a few days of search I managed to find a way to maybe sync the created calendars. But I have to create a profile in Outlook (what the hell?). Okay, I created a profile in Outlook according to the steps mentioned on a website and I still can't sync the calendars with Nokia Ovi Suite! WHY??? In addition, in the settings of the N900 in "Transfer & Sync" when I want to create a new data transfer profile I can't find my laptop as a device in the Bluetooth search list. I am UNABLE to sync/transfer data. I'll try now with the USB cable...
    PLEASE HELP OUT.

  • Can't receive SMS on N900

    I've had my N900 for about a month.  When I signed up for T-Mobile service I received a text message welcoming me to T-Mobile and informing me of my account balance.  I haven't been able to receive any text messages since then.  This only became apparent recently when trying to set up an online account where they try to send an SMS message with a temporary password.
    I can send outgoing SMS without problems.  They go out immediately and are received by other phones.  SMS from other phones back to my N900, or sent via e-mail, just disappear.
    I spent some time yesterday with T-Mobile's technical support.  I'm not exactly clear on the way GSM networks operate, but the tech claimed he could only see one of the two connections he should be seeing.  He suggested  I try my sim card on a T-Mobile locked phone.  I'll do this as soon as I find somone who has such a thing.  However, it seems unlikely that this is the problem.  (I mean it's not the first time T-Mobile have set up a phone account for someone.)
    I had been using the default "Use SMS Messaging Center settings from SIM card".   The tech gave me a new number to put there, but it didn't change anything.  Besides which, I -did- receive an initial text message when I set up the account using the default "from SIM card" setting.
    Things that changed since I first set up the account are:
    I've updated the Maemo OS twice, the most recent time being yesterday 2010/2/20.
    I've downloaded a few apps.
    I have an sshd daemon on the phone now, so I can ssh in to poke around.  I've also spent some time on the forums and trying some of the suggestions for fixing broken SMS in the "Conversations" app.  Specifically, I tried
    cd .rtcom-eventlogger
    mkdir keep
    mv el* keep
    then cycling the power on the phone.  No joy on this.
    Similarly, df shows that I haven't filled up any of my disk partitions.  The fullest is "/" at 72%.
    I don't understand how GSM and SMS do their connections.  In case it's of any use, for what it's worth, a netstat returns:
    ~/.rtcom-eventlogger $ netstat -a

    I'm running into a character limit on this posting, so I'll post a "ps xauww" as a follow on to this message.

  • Getting the n900

    Guys i should be getting the n900 in two weeks, it seems like the best phone in the market, but i have a few questions, first i live in lebanon, so will my n900 gets fm transmitter enabled ?? And guys i don't know anything about flashing the device, or x-terminal, or anything like that (new to linux), so is the n900 the best phone for me??? I'm fine with the normal things o n the n900, but i'm not a hacker (now i own an e75 ), did any e-series guy upgraded to the n900 and had any problems ?? And one last thing , will installing apps from the devel and the extra devel.... In the app manager cause any damage to the n900 's software.
    Reality is wrong....dreams are for real... 2pac .
    don't forget to hit that green kudos

    Guys i did my search and i love the n900 from the reviews and the youtube videos, i don't mind one profile anyway i use two, normal and silent (the n900 has them ), and contacts groups, ringtones...... Don't mean anything for me, and i don't have any problem with 12 hours battery life, in fact, thats great for me. I have an e75 so i'm in landscape mode almost all the time so no problem their two. Anyway what kind of hacking can u do with the n900 1-is it hacking websites and getting free stuff from the web ? 2-is it hacking e-mails and facebook profiles ? 3-or is it hacking the phone to take full control of it ?? . Now i may have a problem with apps, i'm more than fine with the number of apps that u can get from the app manager after enabling the maemo (devel, ....) to get tons of more apps, but i heard that these apps are beta and will cause damage to the phone, is that true ?? Or some of the apps ar a bit luggy and thats all ?? thanks for ur help guys. Ps : i wrote from my e75 using opera mini 4, and now the opera mobile 10 is aviable on the n900.

  • Nokia N900 Ringtone 'internal error

    Since a few days i have the N900. I'd like to select an iTunes-song as a ringtone but keep getting the 'internal error'. Following it closes the 'profiles' application.
    Can anyone explain this error to me and pherhaps give me a solution?

    Is this one you've downloaded through iTunes?
    If so It's Probably one of Apples DRM Protected tracks which won't be compatible with the N900.
    What format is it in? mp3, AAC etc

  • Colour profile

    Hey, with the new firmware come colour profiles! Under device display you can select what you like most. Choose between normal vivid and subdued. :-)
    What is your favourite?

    Normal is much better. It would be better if we can change the theme like what we have in Symbian.

  • N900 dead

    Please excuse me if this topic was already discussed, but i have followed these other ones and none of them was exactly my case:
    /discussions/board/message?board.id=topfaq&thread.id=168
    /discussions/board/message?message.uid=589647#U589647
    I have received this week my new N900. Everything superb until last Friday when I was in my car listening music through the A2DP profile (stereo bluetooth), received a call, was using also 3G and all this meanwhile the N900 was plugged to the car charger (borrowed from a N97). That was quite usual with my HTC Diamond. But suddenly when I left the car the N900 bricked, so I restarted but since then the only thing I could see is the NOKIA logo with the white wallpaper.
    Later at home i tried to remove the battery, put it back again, plugged to the adapter and i could see a small usb logo on the right top corner. Then I followed the guides found here to flash und update the firmware (flasher-3.5 and so on, with my windows 7 pc). First I reinstalled the latest firmware file (.bin) and it seems to be OK, with no error comand. Then I rebooted the N900 but the result was the same, it stopped 30-40 segs later and switch off. I though it was also necessary to do the eMMC, so i repeated following the new steps, but in this case i found these messages from the flasher:
    -USB not found
    -USB raw data transfer EP found at EP2
    -SU_GET_UPDATE_STATUS_REQ terrminated with error code 1.
    I have no idea what do they mean but the case is that now I can see no usb logo on the top when I plug the usb adapter (either USB or AC), so it is now impossible to comunicate with the pc. I have tried again to remove the battery, even in a Nokia center with another battery from the 8500 which i didn't know was the same, but no result. The most strangest thing is that the N900 refuses to be charged as once it is plugged to the AC, a yellow light appears and on the screen I can only see the nokia logo on a dark backlight (as I said, with no usb logo now), but 30 segs later it is continously switching off.
    I am already mentally prepared to ask Nokia for a replacement, but I still resist to accept there is no solution to revive this little but complex device.
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    As cpitchford  mentionned it, the N900 does not behave well with a low battery. I've experimented a similar problem a while ago when I left my N900 turned off for quite a while. It seems it did not like it as when I tried to load the battery again, nothing happened (even the orange charging light was off). I replaced the battery with a brand new one, and it worked again.
    Today as I was using FonJoikuSpot on my Nokia 900 (I'm using this solution to get WiFi access at home using my unlimited data plan and it consumes a lot of battery), it suddenly went off. I could see the Nokia logo on the back screen of my phone. I removed the battery, put it back and tried and turned on my N900. Nothing happened.
    The guy at the Nokia Care Point (not a Nokia employee) told me that my Nokia was dead. I explained that I had a similar problem in the past and it was fixed with a new battery. He just smiled at me and went to attend another client.
    So I'll try and order a new battery (again...) and hope that my N900 will come to life again!
    I'll keep all of you posted on whether this solved the problem or not.

  • How to export and import bookmarks Firefox on N900

    It's self-explanatory. I know how to export & import bookmarks with Firefox desktop. As a disabled user, the less I have to "re-invent the wheel", the better. How do I export and import bookmarks with Firefox (currently 4) on N900?

    Sync is the main vector for transferring bookmarks between computers for Firefox.
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/how-do-i-set-up-firefox-sync
    If the N900 allows filesystem access the places.sqlite file could be copied from your desktop Firefox profile.

  • N900 Ringtone Problem

    Hello!
                I have a strange problem in my N900 Phone. Few days ago, after I upaded its firmware from Nokia ovi utility, now whenever some one call me it don't ring. But when I go to the profile section and change the ringtone from NokiaTune to some other ringtone then it rings. I connected the Mobile to my PC and opened the ringtone folder, I see that nokia tune is no longer in the folder but if you go the profile it will show that it has nokia tune install and it rings too but if you save setting and try to call the phone then it don't ring
    I don't know what to do now. From where I can download Nokia Tune and saved it in the ringtone folder. Thanks

    No.. it has nothing to do with your Active Profile during the firmware update... If you really want to take a try, re-install the firmware...

  • How to remove PC Suite sync calendar on N900

    Hi
    When i first got my N900 i used PC Suite and synced my calendar and tasks from outlook. Then i deleted all the entries but am trying to use mail for exchange to sync google calendar. In Calendar, its says it has synced with PC Suite.
    where on the device can i delete that sync history?

    i am not sure that there is a way to delete that history.
    it doesnt matter anyway...that is just a notification of when it was synced and where to.
    i still have a notification that has been in my backup since the get-go with my e90.
    click on "New" and add a new sync profile.
    see if that will work for you.
    regarding not having access to that pc any more...doesnt matter.  youll be fine.  its not like it is going to sync that pc again.  you have to be connected via cable or bt in order to sync with pc suite.

    Hi all,
    I've received a text msg from nokia that there is new software available for my N900.
    I can not down load the software as it said there is no new version.
    I've currently have version 10.2010.19-1 is this the latest version.

    I got the email message update notice just now, but nothing new on the NSU, I also receive update notice via SMS regarding update for my old phone, I already update my profile to change the phone. I think Nokia is losing track of it, and equally confused like their customers
