Programming a close acrobat and browser window button into PDFs

Hi Everyone,
We are wondering if you could help us.
We are creating a Flash site which launches many PDFs, these PDFs launch in Acrobat, either in Acrobat itself or through the browser window plugin.
We want to be-able to program a close button into the PDF that does the following:
1. Closes the PDF file
2. Closes Acrobat
3. Closes the internet browser window
Does anyone know how we might do this?
Thanks,
Steve
ps. we have had suggestions that we should of integrated the PDFs into Flash, tthis would have been fantastic, but unfortunately we are now to close to the deadline to integrate this.

I don't think you can do any of those things from a button embedded in
a PDF in a browser.

  • Close Web Browser Window Button.

Is there a way to create a button that users can click to close the web browser window?  Is it possible to do it through javascript embeded on the button action?
    Thank you.

    Hi Eric
As I said earlier. Play with JavaScript all you like. Good luck in finding a JavaScript method that will work 100% of the time. I've very doubtful you will.
The simplest test of JavaScript is the Alert, which you have tried. Often testing JavaScript will fail when testing locally. Sometimes it's because the Flash Security is blocking things. To fix that, click here and follow the instructions.
As for the slide, it all depends on your Captivate settings. If you want it blanked you can insert an image or something that would cover the background. Nav bar is another story. Probably just have to live with it that way or turn it off if you don't wish to see it. Or maybe insert a caption or image that indicates the movie has finished and to please close the window (since it didn't close automatically).
    Cheers... Rick

When I try to cut and past text from Firefox to Microsoft Works I receive an error that says 'Not enough memory, close applications and restart windows'. This never works! I never had this issue with IE! How can I fix this issue?

If the crashing only happens with other peoples projects it could be for a variety of reasons. There are tons of asset references saved in the library (the location every item was imported from) and much more. None of those locations will exist on your system and internal complications may simply happen, especially with any runtime shared assets.
If possible you should consider adding more system RAM so you can multi-task. RAM is extremely cheap. I'm assuming from a smaller 500GB HD and 4GB RAM that you're probably on a laptop however. Installing RAM is still usually pretty easy if you have the notebook manual (or grab it online). It typically involves just lifting the keyboard or opening a single panel on the bottom of the notebook but it varies greatly. At any rate, 8GB RAM would help you quite a bit. If you do, just make sure you get the correct type of RAM (again, in the specs in your manual).
Even when you run out of physical RAM, Flash (like any other application) will still see more RAM based on the OS's swap memory setting (using available space on your HD as RAM). It will get much slower but Flash should see the total amount the 32bit OS can handle for RAM (it doesn't know if it's physical fast RAM or SWAP (fake) HD RAM though). If you open other apps with Flash they should also operate, but will also use swap RAM and you've probably noticed your HD crunching a lot while more apps are open.
That said, I have a 4GB RAM in my older i7 lappie and have used Flash CS5.5 and CS6 on it extensively, with other applications open. Although my projects contain mild assets and mostly tons of code. No issues at all. I just think your heavy assets are crashing you.
Either way, glad you got your work done. You're welcome and good luck!

  • When interactive pdf opens in browser window can the pdf links open in separate windows

Problem is the pdf works ok when it opens in the browser window, BUT the links in the pdf don't open in separate browser windows, as they do when the pdf is downloaded as a file.
If pdf links can only open in separate browser window when the pdf itself opens as a separate file, the how do I email a pdf download link on a website.

    Hello Yesh,
you can open PDFs as a guest user (without authentification):
    1. Allow Guest Access (Admin -> Security Configuration -> Check "Allow Guest Access" and select a folder name).
    2. Copy your Report into this guest folder
    3. You can open the Report as PDF with a link like this:
    http://(bip-server-name):9704/xmlpserver/(guest-folder-name)/(report-name)/(report-name).xdo?_xpt=0&_xf=pdf&_xmode=4(&report-parameters)
Just replace the strings in brackets. You find a great description of the URL parameters in Tim Dexters Blog
    http://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/2006/07/accessing_xmlp_enterprise_repo.html
I didn't find an option to set the height of the PDF-Output for the guest user in the BIP-UI. Maybe I missed something. But you can manually edit the configuration file. It is located on your BIP server direcory in the subdirectory xmlp/XMLP/Users. Select the guest users subdirectory and edit the configuration file "user~.profile".
In this XML config file there is an entry "viewerHeight". In the Value-Tag you can enter the PDF output windows height in pixel (but unfortunaly not in % - this was the question of my original posting).
    Hope that helps...

  • Possibility to execute Acrobat Pro's "Combine files into PDF" function from within SAP?

    Good day.
Presently, a company uses Acrobat Pro to manually combine files such as *.pdf, *.jpg, *.doc, which have been downloaded from SAP's Document Management System, into one pdf file. I would like to know if it is possible to automatically execute Acrobat Pro's "Combine files into PDF" function from within SAP (ECC 6.0) application system. I'm wondering if this could be achieved from a program via OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) or RFC (remote function call).
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and inputs.

Yes, you can combine PDF files via IAC/COM methods.

  • Can applet close the Web browser window it embedded in?

I know that a link or button in the Web browser can close the browser window. But I really don't if the applet can also do it.

This site does have a search function you know, and if thats too much trouble there is google:

  • Can't open behaviors or Filters and Browser window is not available

I have reinstalled Motion 3.0.2 twice now for Final Cut Studio pro and I get a screen that comes up for the workspace but no browser window, no access to behaviors or filters. Has anyone ever had this issue and resolved it.

    Gotta ask two questions:
    1. Are the windows indicated as being open and visible in the View or Windows menus?
    2. Have your tried changing the resoution of your monitor display to see if the windows are just living off the edge of your screen.

  • "Pin" and "New Window" buttons in jDev

    Hello all!
In jDev 11.1.2.1.0 I can't find the "pin" and the "new window" buttons of the structure panel.
I think that these two useful utilities could be found in the property window as well.
Does anyone know if there are missing or I have to do sth in order to make them appear?

No need to use those buttons anymore?

  • How to close Acrobat reader with a button inside the document ?

    Hi,
Is there any way to close acrobat reader using script ?
    Doing this :
    app.execMenuItem("Close");
will close my document, but not the reader ...
    Any idea ?

    Hi Olivier,
As you say the close script will close the current document only. It is not possible to script for closing the application (Acrobat or Reader).
The user has to close the application.

  • Ctrl+F5 and Browser Back Button

I have read many posts about these issues, but did not reach to any result.
I realize that they are a kind of validation, but how can we work around them?
I have tried to set "EnableTokenValidation" property in the page definition to false, but this causes more problems, since instead of "Creation/Insert" mode, the page appears to be in an "Update" mode.
It came upon my mind to hide browser's tool bars, but I am not sure for this...
So, please, does anyone have reached a solution, or even any recommendations?
    Thanx in advance

    Hi,
you are tackling two issues here:
    1 - page refresh
    2 - browser back button
    Both are typical JavaEE issues
1 - If you submitted a page then a refresh will not bring it back into createInsert mode. If you want it to get back into CreateInsert mode, set an invokeAction on the executableSection of the binding to invoke CreateInsert on any page request
2 - The recommended way of doing this - described as a pattern in J2EE - is a dejavu token that allows you to detect duplicate requests. The best solution I saw working though is a piece of JavaScript that on the client side deleted the browser history. This way the browser back button became non-functional

  • How to remove submit buttons on workspace and use submit buttons on PDF instead?

I am working with LiveCycle ES2. I will get submit buttons automatically render on workspace according to routes i designed after User component. However, I do not want that submit buttons on Flex. I would like to use submit buttons on PDF as designing in LiveCycle Designer.
Could you please give a suggestion on this?
    Mac

You would also want to ensure that the Adobe LiveCycle Form Bridge is not on the form.
Here are some scenarios, from the Workbench help, which may help:
If your process uses Adobe XML forms (XDP files), you can render the form to PDF and then use the Inject Form Bridge operation. To render to PDF, you use the renderPDFForm operation that the Forms service provides.
Workspace ES provides a Complete button that users click to submit their forms. However, forms can also include submit buttons. When the Inject Form Bridge operation is used on a form, Workspace ES either hides the submit button, or disables the Complete button.
    Form design
    Result
Design: The form includes no submit button.
Result: Workspace ES disables the Complete button and users cannot submit the form.
Design: The form includes one submit button.
Result? Workspace ES hides the submit button and enables the Workspace ES Complete button.
Design: The form includes a button (indirect submit) that points to a submit button (direct submit)
Indirect-submit buttons always take precedence over direct-submit buttons, even if multiple submit buttons exist. Workspace ES always shows the indirect submit buttons.
Result: Workspace ES hides the submit button and enables the Workspace ES Complete button.
Design: The form includes multiple indirect-submit buttons that point to one or more direct-submit buttons.
Results: Workspace ES disables the Workspace ES Complete button. The user must click the appropriate button on the form to submit it.
The user can still save a draft version of the form or take the form offline
Design: The form includes either an indirect- or direct-submit button in a repeating subform.
Result: Workspace ES excludes these buttons for submitting the form in Workspace ES.
Note: When the submit button that was added to the form design with the Process Fields form object to the form design is hidden, the button still provides the functionality for submitting the form.
Submit requests are handled by Workspace ES, which acts as an intermediary between the LiveCycle ES server and the form. Also, forms can be used both offline and online.
    Hope that helps.
