Programming in system 6.0.8

I got an old macintosh plus, and there is not much I can do with it at to moment. Also, it doesn't work . So, as an alternitive, I have been using Mini vMac (is it true that downloading a ROM is illeagal?) and I was looking to write some simple programms. Does anyone know any way to do this? I was thinking finding a disk image of applescript, but it looks like it came out recently and never worked on a Macintosh or vMac.

I found this site thats called the mini vmac applications site, and there was a disk image (among thousands of others) that said in the contents collum: blah, blah, MacPascal, blah. so I downloaded it, and shure enough, there was a MacPascal program in there. however, I have no idea how to do anything in pascal (I did get a basic hello world program running). p.s I think it was intended fr people who wanted to know how to program in pascal, not to write programms in it, because there is a window for the main code, and two smaller ones for text output and graphics output that pop up when MacPascal is luanched.

Starting a java program on System boot/startup

Hi,
I am trying to find out how to start a java program on system startup which basically spawns a Thread which in turn does some processing.
Came across windows specific options which help one make it as a service.Making a .bat for windows and .sh for linux could be a option but not sure where to put these in respective OS or whether it is a good option.
If someone has tried out similar thing please let me know the details for the same.

and save

copy startup.bat file
and click on start-->programs--> startup(rigthclick and open)
then paste that file into that folder...
now you ll get that file opened whenever system boots.

Leopard Is Crashing-On almost EVERY program including System Preffs!

Hi!
I had posted this in the Tiger forum at first but now it is here . Sorry for the inconvenience.
I installed leopard about a day ago and ever since all I have had is problems, problems, and more problems....
My Computer Specs:
Processor: 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4
Memory: 512 MB
Type: Mac Mini
First when I installed it the start up window (That pops up after the installation) crashed. This I didn't bother about to much, thought that my computer may have been slow or something.
But then after I installed the updates (The Itunes 7.5 and such) and restarted I opened "System Preferences" I went to "Spaces" and it crashed. (I mean that System Preferences Crashed).
Ever since then this has happened about 5 more times.
Then Yesterday and today, I tried opening "Dashcode" this has also crashed about 5 times.
The following programs have also crashed:
Microsoft Word -About one time it crashed the computer when I was trying to choose a printer.
Skype-2-3 times, mainly when I try to quit or hang up
Safari-I think it quit once
Time Machine-Froze my computer.....
Also, I have Photoshop Elements and Appleworks, both of these no longer work and crash on opening.
Please help!

This forum and other sites are full of information that details what works, what doesn't, what soon will, and what never will.
Open and run Activity Monitor (in your Utilities folder), it will show you how far you can push the issue, and that will be directly related to the amount of installed RAM.

LabVIEW function to detect 32 Bit (X86 Program Files) vs 64 Bit (Program Files) System?

I am looking for a LabVIEW function that detects whether the system is a 32 bit or 64 bit system. The reason for this is that I need to change our file paths to draw from either the X86 Program Files folder or the Program Files folder, I'd rather do this programatically so as not having to do it manually each time.

Use "Application Directory" for relative paths from your EXE in "Program Files".
Otherwise, use "Get System Directory.vi" and select "Application Files" as option.

Saving or prewing calendars in iPhoto 9.1 causes program or system freeze

I really enjoyed the last iPhoto update which creates the possibility to make and order calendars among others. But it was a short time joy 'cause trying to preview the calendar (or to save as pdf) caused every time the program or even system freeze or crash.
Any solution or should we wait for another update to fix this problem?

at least you can get to that stage, I only get to creating one and it freezes or crashes.

Enter password to a program using system exec

Hi,
I have a program that I am running using SYSTEM EXEC.VI. The VI runs ok but asks me to enter a passowrd. If I do this, the VI continues and completes the test. My question is... how can I add the password automatically using SYSTEM EXEC.VI without the user typing it in. I have tried a carridge return and then the password (in the comand line) or even typing the password into the STANDARD INPUT and have even tried creating a batch file but no luck

Can't run some programs after system restore to remove virus

Hi,
My duaghter's Toshiba had a nasty virus that pretended to be an antivirus software product, that snuck in, between the time her default Norton service expired and I had the time to install Trend.
Could not remove it using Trend, so upon advice from a friend, decided to do a windows system restore to a point prior to the infection. This worked successfully, and the virus is gone, but now she can't run some programs, I have tried to install Trend again, but that fails as it says that you have to uninstall Norton first. But I can't run Norton, or uninstall it, and some folders on C: are no longer accessible.
Should I do a complete Toshiba system restore (ie back tofactory settings? This seems a drastic measure, but the issue is beyond my meagre PC skills.

The main issue is that we cannot run the Norton Anitvirus that came prepackaged with the laptop, and we can't uninstall it either. If you try to perform either action, nothing happens.
However, when we try to install a new antivirus software, Trend, the install fails because it detects that Norton is installed, and indicates that we must uninstall Norton before we can complete the Trend installation. But we cannot unistall Norton for some reason.
I am getting my daughter to check what else doesn't work, but Microsoft Office works OK, and most of the games she installed seem to work. I just don't understand why Norton won't work now, and why we cannot uninstall it. I don't know if its due solely to the system restore, or some combination of events. The introductory 3 mont Norton licence has expired some time ago, but it should still let us uninstall. I have also tried to unistall through the Control panel, but nothing happens when I try that either.
Is there any way to force the uninstall of Norton? Or is a factory reset the only viable option now?

Run a program with system exec.vi

I've got a problem with system exec.
When I launch a simple program like : c:\windows\notepad.exe it works very well.
But when I launch a program with parameters, it doesn't.
here is the command line: c:\bmd.exe a.bmd a.txt ffffffff ffffffff
When I put this command line in a cmd windows it works perfectly. It don't understand...
Any idea?

Hi Julesjay,
I found out that if the command string didn't include the path of the executable (start) the program would fail (at least with matlab executables) So make sure the path of the exe is included in the command string.

Many programs, including System Preferences, crash upon launch.

Yesterday I attempted to roll back the latest Quick Time (7.1.5) back to 7.1.3 because it was causing some problems in some video software (Modul8 to be precise).
I followed the instructions here, using Pacifist.

While it did successfully roll back Quick Time to an earlier version, it also managed to cripple my system.
I can no longer open "System Preferences", nothing is displayed in the top right, like the time/date, network strength, search, etc. there are a number of other programs which won't launch as well.
When I do attempt to launch these programs, I get a dialog box popping up that says that "The application (Whatever Program) quit unexpectedly" and gives me the option of Close, Report or Reopen. Obviously reopen doesn't work.
I have no idea how to repair this and would greatly appreciate any advice that could help me fix my bone-headed roll back mistake!

Running labview program as system service

I was wondering if anyone has done this before. I need a compiled Labview program to start up as a system service with windows XP. I'm using Labview 8.6.1. How do I do it? Thanks!

this: creating a "Shared Library" in "Build Specifications" Project
Manager menu on LabVIEW. This procedure create a dll (LabVIEW.dll) with

AnyService.dll to the LabVIEW dll created in Step 1. Be sure to also
link to labview.lib as it is very likely the LabVIEW DLL will use it.".
I think it means link a dll to dll (AnyService.dll to LabVIEW.dll).
Where do I do that? Is It posible link AnyService.dll to LabVIEW.dll in
LabVIEW? or, Do I need do it from Visual C++?. And How to link
labview.lib?

run the report RPR_ABAP_SOURCE_SCAN, give 'z*' in "Program name" field, and 'SPRAS' in "Find string" field, u'll get to know the places where SPRAS is used, modify those programs accordingly....

Add programs to system from internet via pacman

Gents;
Can a program from non-arch archives be downloaded into the arch system into pacman install procedure ?
Would such a .tar.gz be entered into the current or extra file? Or neither?
If a program were installed in normal non-pacman procedure, what happens if pacman upgrade is initiated?

no. make a package.

pacman will upgrade those packages that pacman is responsible for not ones you personally install outside of pacman. if you know how to compile then read up on how to make a package. look through abs and the various posts on this forum that show you what goes into making a package. the arch build system is so easy it is ridiculous to build and install anything outside of it especially if you later install a pacman packge that has conflicts with that source you compiled and installed.

You can use submit... and return to return to the called program.If you want to execute the program even though error comes in submiting a standard program, use BDC for executing the program in mode 'N'(if tcode is attached to the program) and then check the errors.
