Project Bug-tracking practices

I am not sure this is the right place to ask this, but this is the place on the Web I feel most comfortable.
Our company projects get larger and we get lot of user requests and problem issues. Currently we keep them in an MSAccess database in a single table that has links to bookmarks in Word files. This seems very inefficient to me since most people have lots of issues against their names. Sometimes I spend half an hour to look up bugs that are fixed in 5 minutes(not to soeak of priority, version requirements, bug verification).
So I came to the idea to look for bug-tracking system that will ease this process. The bad thing here is that the management will not pay
for one, at least not at this stage. Another problem seems to be that the we use Windows as platform for all machines . I spent half a day yesterday searching the web for possible solutions. I came up with bugzilla, but ended up with the fact that 'installing under Windows is a painfull process'. After new search I came up with scarab, which seemed good because it is pure Java. I spent another half day today trying to make it work and though I read the install manual completely I sill cannot get to log-in into it.
What products do your companies use? I am sure I am far from the first to encounter this issue.
To summarize the product requirements:
1. Free (maybe paid support)
2. Windows - compatible
3. DB - Oracle or MSSql server
4. Easy set-up and configuraion is definitely preferrable to flexibility

It integrates 3rd party tools such as Bugzilla, JIRA, Microsoft Project Server & Rally Software into the JDeveloper IDE - letting you assign tasks, keep track of related files and integrate with Subversion, CVS etc...

Unfortunately the problem persists on OC4J904, so the alternative for you is to use OC4J902, you can setup a new container on a different port (other than used for 902) and register the provider using the direct URL of the OC4J902 container. This should solve the problem.

Consulting Bug tracking: Why an Oracle support agreement is needed?

Hi all,
I don't really understand why anybody could not access to the Jdev bug tracking? An important part of them are detected by anonymous users who have no agreement. Moreover, Jdev is a free tool until developed app is put in production, and bugs are mainly detected during development phase.

yes JDeveloper is a free product, but customer support services isn't - its a service that you will have to pay for.
Usually, If there is a bug report posted on this forum we do our best to track this down (and I am spending quite some time with this) and log it if it reproduces. However, the differentiation to customer support service comes when it doesn't reproduce immediately which requires in depth analysis of the problem or complex set-up. This is beyond of what we can handle on OTN.
We discussed the option of a public application to report issues and track them. However, i am not sure what the current state of thsi project is.
As a remark from my side, from 10 questions I ask users who report bugs on OTN to send me a testcase based on teh HR schema, I usually get 3 replies. So even a public bug application is a give and take. Not sure if this was your intention.

Desktop-based bug tracking software

I have seen some out there that cost something, but if anyone
here can recommend one based on actual experience, or know of an
open-source free solution, please let me know. This is for tracking
information from an ongoing dev project for which I am the only

Either way you look at it, you will have a slight learning
curve to any software that you chose. You will need to do some
configuration for the setup and spend a little time reading up on
it. I do not know from my experience any software that you can just
install and be "good to go" as bug tracking software that I have
seen whether it be OS such as Bugzilla (

or COTS such as IBM ClearQuest.

Note you will need to install supporting software such as for
Bugzilla, you will need to install Tomcat and MySQL. The nice thing

Suggestions in bug tracking?

Hello,
we are entering testing phase of a large project with a geographically distributed team. We have been using Beehive Online for sharing documents successfully. However, for this new phase, we should be using bugzilla for bug tracking.
I would appreciate new ideas on alternatives using Beehive Online or other Oracle tools.
Please note that at least 70 people will be involved - sharing a spreadsheet in Beehive is not an option :-)

The only option I can think of is to use the Wiki structure to allow everyone to edit the information online - the wiki pages are automatically versioned so changes can be tracked.
The spreadsheet could be used if you set the folder to have manual versioning and use the check-out/check-in functionality - it is a bit more process but could work.
Personally I would use the Wiki as it is less process-centric.

Bug Tracking System?

Has anyone seen or written a bug tracking system that can be deployed in 9ias.
We would like to implement some type of a system where our business partners can
log issues with our portal (obviously this request came from a project manager)

You can develop this using Portal Forms. Something like a suggestion form, where you can have the priority and descrption
of problem. Internally you can generate a bug no and store the userid logging the problem. You can publish this form as
a portlet on a page and create portal report on this table. You can publish this report as well on the page.

Cannot complete action when trying to Activate Bug Tracking Modules

I am trying to activate the Bug Tracking Modules feature on a site, and the error message is: Cannot Complete Action.
I have been able to Activate this feature earlier on my site and they still work.
I can activate the Bug Tracking List Instances, but not the modules.
I run WSS30/MOSS with service pack 1
Can anyone help me? - Thanks!

Packaged Application 'Bug Tracker'

a great compliment to the developer of the Bug Tracker. It's very simple to install and contains all the important functions to trace bugs in the development of software projects - and it works fine :-).

2.1 is the version of APEX that is built into Oracle Express Edition (XE).
There are threads in this forums about upgrading it to version 2.2.1, but it is not supported and may not be a good idea.
However, the only thing preventing you from running the Bug Tracker on your version is the installation process.
Version 2.2.1 has a new application packager that lets you make a single install script that installs the application plus all supporting objects.
To install the Bug Tracker on XE I first installed it on a server running 2.2.1 - like apex.oracle.com.
Then I exported the application without its supporting objects.
Then I took the scripts that installed the database objects and images and made my own scripts from them.
Then I could run those scripts on XE and install the application.
To make it easier for others, I zipped up my scripts and put them here:

That should be easier than trying to upgrade your APEX version.

I know this is a shot in the dark, but has anyone updated the example Bug Tracker application? We've used it for some individual projects in the past and noticed that there were several bugs in the application. If not, then it's not a big issue.

Imagine that, bugs in the BUG TRACKER..... (Sorry, couldn't resist...) :) But seriously, I have started making some modifications to this product to support bug tracking for an application I am helping with. First off, I am moving the authentication from being APEX Users to table based (seems there was some work started on this before it was released...) Also looking at adding some more reports and such in the future, and also looking at it being a bug tracker and enhancements request collection tool...
Just need some time to do all this ..

Password for a new bug tracker user

I installed bug tracker and it works fine. When I created a user I didn't find where to provide/change password. When I got login screen and type new user name, I don't know what is the password. How to set password for the new user in bug tracker?

It means that you can copy and paste an encrypted password from configuration file. Of course, passwords are encrypted if password-encryption service is enabled. Otherwise passwords are stored in plaintext in configuration files.

Deleting a bug tracker user account

I have by mistake created two accounts on the bug tracker. How can I remove one of them?

AFAIK, there is no option to delete a user, even for the admins. The best you can do it set the password for the user you don't want to some long, random string and then forget about it.

Why issues in the bug tracker are ignored?

Almost 3 months ago I opened two ticket in Mojarra bug tracker.

The first one is really important, it limits "redirect after post" pattern usage. I would use flash scope to keep operation status message across second GET request after initial POST request. But the flash scope is broken in RI :-( The issue was discussed on this forum also: http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5445714.
I'm wondering why the opened issue have been ignored for 3 months. The issue status is still unconfirmed, but all information required to reproduce the error was provided. I'm really worried about JSF future if the development team ignore the community.
Fortunately there is a competitor, MyFaces ...

I would like to find a copy of the APEX bug tracker that used to be on the apex.oracle.com web page. Does anyone know where I can find that?
I know they moved this to the cloud and I am exploring that but I would also like a local copy to experiment with.

Where are image files (Bug Tracker Application)

I downloaded the Bug Tracker packaged application and in one of the list (Administration Tab), the list is presented with images. For example User Profiles item show the Image attribute as menu/user_red_32.gif
I want to know where this image is actually uploaded? I cannot see this particular image in the Shared Components/Images
What is "menu" in menu/user_red_32.gif

menu is a folder in your images directory. That's where we store many of the artwork we ship with Application Express. It's a physical folder on your harddisk if you're using Apache or it's a folder in XDB when using 11g.
