Project duration as per implementation phases

Divide project duration as per implementation phases?

Dear Gopala Rao,
It actually depends on various factors, such as :
1. how many modules they want to implement.
2. Team Size.
3. Organizational Structure (Volume of data)
4. Legacy System
5. Business Complexity etc.
There is no hard and fast rule that every project should be completed in a particular duration of time. Depending on the above factors, it may vary any where from 6 months to 18 months or so. (Approximately, it may be less than 6 months or more than 18 months in some exceptional cases).
Usually it is divided into phases:
1. Project Preparation : Project team, infrastructure, Software, Steering committe etc will be identified in this phase.
2. Business Blue Print : Re-engineering of Business process and BBP sign off.
3. Realization : Analysing Gap and Realization of possible customization and development effort
4. Final Preparation and Go Live : Development and Configuration
5. Post Go Live support : Support after go live
You would allot specific time periods for each of these phases and will set milestones accordingly.
or it could even be like :
Project Start
Analysis
Design
Design Freeze / Client Sign-off
Construction
Testing
Implementation
Project End
Project Management Framework
Post Close Review
Training
Change Management
Refer following links for more info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAP_Implementation
http://www.sapfans.com/sapfans/asap/be_01_e.htm
There are different flavors of project implementations.
1. Template implementation - without much customization - based on a predefined rollout template
2. CUstom rollout
3. Ramp up rollout
4. Enhancements to an existing implementation
5. project recovery
The project life cycle consists of [1] Project Charter,[2]Scope,[3] planning,[4]Execution,[5]Control and [6] closure.
Charter tells you the purpose of the project, for example,to eliminate an expensive Transmission process by implementing EDI.
Scope tells what all you will be doing in the project. In SAP,this is Blue printing.
planning:Here you plan the capital Expenditure - capital budgeting,Expenses,Revenue,Resources and other elements that go in to the project.
projectExecution : Actual execution of the planned activities
Control:Here you steer the project towards the intended goals-variance analysis, cost Reduction,Value engineering, budget, standards, fast tracking, crashing,Resource allocation etc etc ,....all find a role here. Here Time,Cost and the other resources are controlled so as to complete the project in time and within the cost baselines.
Testing also comes here-unit test,integration test,UAT........
Closure:The project sign off takes place here.
In the support Environment the "project" will cover a]incident management,b] problem management,c]change management,d]configuration management e] Release management and f] help desk.
Reward points if it is helpful.
Thanks and Regards,
Naveen.

  • ChaRM: switch back project implementation phase

    Dear All,
is it possible for an implementation project to switch back the phase (for example from test to development or from golive to Emergency Correction)? Which are the contraindications?
    Regards,
    Bob

    Hi Bob,
    - technically nothing is blocking you from that
    - functionally: you should just pay attention to what have been done in last phase before switching. As long as transport requests sequence is respected during import (meaning you use ChaRM for imports) there should nt be any contraindication
be aware that by checking table /tmwflow/tpphmac for phase model 'devrl' (that corresponds to implementation project) you ll know what is exactely allowed in each phase of your project type.
SAP Would not recommend changing values in this table though

  • CHARM during implementation phase possible?

    Hi Gurus
I would like to know the constraints of implementing CHARM during the implementation phase of the project.
I am aware that, charm functionality is best suitable for post go live change tracking tool and it is not recommended during the implementation phase. But I would like to know the reasons behind not recommending CHARM during implementation phase.
    Please provide your valuable inputs.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
The following may not be the detailed reasons behind not recommending CHARM during implementation phase.
Implementation Project u2013 A project to implement SAP solution as a part of regular implementation or a roll out. This is considered for single-site implementations. Predefined scenarios can be selected from template projects.
Change Request Management (ChaRM) is an SAP tool to manage all those activities performed between the design of a change and the final promotion to a productive system
    ChaRM can:
o Improve efficiency and transparency of change management processes
    o Minimize business disruptions
o Store documentation of implemented changes
    o Track and monitor changes
    o Improve audit process
o Reduce risk of correction and project failures
    ChaRM benefits are:
o Allow the Organization to control and manage changes in the SAP system effectively
o Guarantee that any change to the SAP system follows the standard process flow and procedures with mandatory controls and documented steps
o Effectively adheres to requirements for SOX compliance
Please also go through [this|http://www.sap.com/community/webcast/2009_06_worldtour_fr/2009_06_Worldtour_SOL1_SAP_fr.pdf] document.
    Hope it helps.

  • Implementation Phases in ASAP Method

    Hi Gurus,
Can anybody explain me the following.
    a) Implementation phases in ASAP method
    b) Detailed activities in each phase.
Please forward me documentation, if any.
    Regards,
    Santosh

When you open ASAP it will show you all phases and activities you have to do.
You can follow the method ASAP or only use some part out it.
The phases are the same as all project methods only the names are different
ASAP is now replaced by solution manager. When you don't have ASAP it is better to use solution manager

  • Project Duration error message when loading short iDVD 5 project in iDVD 6

My iDVD 5 project is very short - a total of about 7 minutes (including video and an audio loop for the menu). The video clips were exported as DV NTSC non-self-contained quicktimes from Final Cut Pro.
When I attempt to load the project into iDVD 6, I get the following error message:
    Project duration
Your project exceeds the maximum content duration. To burn this project, remove some content.
Twirling down the triangle for more info gives:
    Project:
    - total project duration: -2147483648:-2147483648 minutes
    - total project capacity: 429496729 GB (max. available: 4.172 GB)
Also, trying to open the Project Info window crashes iDVD.
I haven't attempted burning, but I'm pretty sure it'd be a waste of a DVD.
My only thought is that iDVD 6 somehow is misreading the non-self-contained quicktimes, but I've never had an issue with them before, and it'd be a drag to redo all my projects with space-hogging self-contained versions.

Many people had trouble opening iDVD 5 projects in iDVD 6 when it first came out. My one iDVD 5 wouldn't open at all.

    Dear all Gurus,
We are going to implement Oracle EBS r12, for industrial concern, we have following quires if any peer may suggest.
    1) we heard the oracle R12 has build new release with 11g db , is it been practical for choosing it for corporate ???
    2) Linux Read hat which version is more stable like 5 releases is compatible with R12 new release?
    3) We are also thinking for 64 bit architecture rather than 32 bit, could any one figure out the practical pros and cons for this.
    4) We are also wondering about the server machine brand and its configurations like HP DL380 G6, DELL 2850? could any one share abut his experience about the same.
    5) What sort of Server configurations (Processor , 2way -4way , RAM , HD and other accessories ) for r12 Multi node setup for 150 clients (DB Server , Apps Server , Test Prod )
    6) What should be backup strategies like tap backup and how much space requirements we must have provisioned for retaining almost 2~3 month backup.
    7) Application implementations methodologies?
    8)
I know to address our queries would be time consuming for you bust peoples , but I would really oblige for being shared your journey this would defiantly the PATH way for other like mentoring for others.
looking forward your valuable instructions ASAP.

  • "Project Duration" error -- preference does not affect message

"Project duration: Your project exceeds the maxiumum project duration. To burn your DVD, change the encoder setting in iDVD preferences to Best Quality."
but it doesn't matter if it's set to Best Quality or not. i still get the error message and can't burn my DVD.

    Hi.
Had he same problem. Changing the setting in the preference did not help. What solved my problem was to open project info (Menu -> Project -> Project Info , or Apple - I) and change the setting there. It immediatly readjusted (and also had to re encode from beginning of course).
Hope this helps you as well.

  • Preferences, Project, can't change project duration or default layer duration

Having trouble changing the project duration or default layer duration in Preferences. I change them and restart Motion and nothing is changed.
    Probably overlooking something. Help

There are a couple of ways to lengthen (or shorten) a project once you've started the project.
    1) Select the Project "layer" at the top of the Layers list, then in the Inspector, select the Properties pane and look down for Duration. You can type in the value needed for the length of project. You have the option of using Timecode, Frames, or Seconds.
    2) Set the Canvas "clock" (/playhead position) to the Project length. To do that, click on the clock icon and the "time" should look like 12:15. Click and drag up (or down) on the time value to lengthen or shorten the project.
When you start Motion and are presented with a Project picker, in the upper right corner of the dialog, you can set the length required (Duration) for your project(s).  Once you start that project with that time length, Motion will remember and all subsequent projects will be created with that time length until you change it at that location again.  I actually haven't set the default project duration in preferences in quite a long time.  However, if Motion is not remembering the project length setting, you might need to Quit Motion, then hold down the Command and Option keys and restart Motion (that should delete preferences and reset Motion to its defaults).

  • Project duration exceeds limit

    hey,
I made a movie in iMovie and exported it to iDVD. After the export process it says "project duration exceeds limit".
My movie is 82 min long and 4.35 GB. Why can it not be burned onto a 4.7GB DVD???
is there a possibility to burn it onto 2 different DVDs, because I do not want to loose any quality.
    thanks in advance
    Thomas

Possibly you set the wrong encoding setting:
    iDVD encoding settings:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/11417.html
    Short version:
Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)
That was for single-layer DVDs. Double these numbers for dual-layer DVDs.
Professional Quality: The Professional Quality option uses advanced technology to encode your video, resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned about the time taken.
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.

  • Project duration too long at only 68 minutes?

Hi, I can't figure this out.
I just upgraded from a PowerMac G5 to a MacPro. Just got it running last night so hopefully I'm overlooking a simple step because I'm new to iLife 09, although I've been using iLife and iDVD for quite some time.
I have an iDVD project that I've been using repeatedly for at least a year or more. It is a DVD porfolio. Duration is about 87 minutes and no problems on the G5/iLife 08.
Now with the upgraded computer and software, it keeps telling me that the project duration is too long for a single layer disc. I've taken the content down to 65 minutes! Quality is set to Best Performance.
Am I missing something else? This same exact project was fine on the old computer.
Thank you very much, time is of the essence for this one unfortunately.
    Eric

Beverly is correct, and for future reference, what Best Performance does is encode while you work to make the whole process faster, but as a result the DVD must be shorter because iDVD doesn't know how much to compress the DVD before it completed. High Quality and Professional Quality both wait until you're ready to burn to begin encoding. High Quality takes less time, but the quality is poorer the closer to 120 minutes the DVD is. Professional Quality takes longer, but it encodes in a higher quality for fuller DVDs. (Below the quality setting in Project Info, the colored bar shows you where the quality begins to degrade for each setting and where you are on that bar.)

  • "Project Duration" error when burning

I have a 2x Superdrive in an iMac G4 800Mhz, and I am using iDVD (ver. 5.0.1) to burn a iMovie HD (ver. 5.0.2) file to a 2x DVD. When I hit the "burn" button in iDVD, I get the following error message:
"Your project exceeds the maximum allowed content duration. You will not be able to burn your DVD while your Encoder Setting is Best Performance. This can be changed in your iDVD Preferences."
First of all, my project is only 29 minutes long. So, the project duration should not be an issue. Second, when I go into the iDVD Preferences and change the Encoder Setting from Best Performance to Best Quality (as the error message suggests), I am able to begin the burning process, but I eventually get this error message:
    "Error during rendering/encoding."
I have 21 GB (out of 60 GB) of free space on my internal HD, and I have 29 GB (out of 60 GB) of free space on my external HD. The external HD is where my iMovie HD file is located, as well as my iDVD project.
Can anyone help me burn this to DVD?

I can think of two factors that might lead to this problem. the first is that, since your project length is under an hour, iDVD will probably try encoding it using "Best Performance" settings. Check Preferences>General>Encoder Settings to see if this is the case. A quick fix might be to simply change this to "Best Quality" instead, which accomodates longer DVDs.
As for how a 29 minute DVD can exceed the maximum duration of a disc, there is a problem a few people have had with transferring iMovie projects into iDVD (myself included) where the project length mysteriously doubles in iDVD. Annoying for small projects like yours but deadly for those exceeding 1 1/2 hours.
...check your status tab and confirm that your project is indeed 29 minutes still and not something like 58. if your footage has in fact doubled in length please see this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=258610&tstart=0
    for possible solutions and/or commiseration.
    Best luck!

  • Shorten Clips In The Timeline And Shorten The Project Duration

When I shorten a clip in the timeline by dragging on one end a blank space appears. I know this is in order to keep the project the same duration but I do not want this. I am happen for the project duration to reduce in accordance with my timeline clip editing, without any blank spaces appearing.
How do I achieve this noting that this seems to be a recent default situation, whether I use FCPX 10.09 or 10.01.01.

Thank you Tom and Luis, but I'm not with any of this. I can add a clip to the timeline or insert a clip into it via the "arrow tools". If I attempt to shorten the clip IN the timeline there is a blank space representing the amount trimmed from the clip.
I want the next clip along to that I've trimmed to automatically move along the timeline albeit shortening the total project duration.
Pressing "A" on the keyboard doesn't achieve this.
I simply click on the clip in the timeline  to highlight it with the yellow margin. I then click on one "edge" with the arrows symbol and drag the edge inwards. This then leaves the space I do not want.
As for "Preferences" when I click this under "Final Cut Pro" i see nothing either relevant to this problem or that I could trash.

  • Project duration error requiring DVD+RDL disc

When going to burn a project, I encountered a project duration error. It read: "Your project is too large for a single-layer disc. Insert a double-layer disc." So I ran out and picked up a stack of DVD+RDLs, came back, and popped one into my SuperDrive. Alas, I am still receiving the same error message. Ideas anyone? (The DVD+RDLs are the Memorex brand.)

Did you tell iDvd you are now using DL Media as opposed to SL? (This is one item the app doesn't yet detect on it's own).
Btw .... if you are still having issues even after addressing the correct settings, then you may wish to consider trying Verbatim or Maxell as opposed to Memorex. The 2 former brands are a bit more reliable on most macs than Memorex.

  • Project Duration exceeds the maximum content duration ERROR.

I can't burn my movies with idvd. The following message occurs.
    Project Duration
Your project exceeds the maximum content duration. To burn your DVD, change setting in the Project Info window.
Now, the file is about 690 MB, but the total time of the project is 1:30:00.
How do I get my movie burned?

    Hi sunilinjapan
Welcome to apple discussions. How many GB's of available hard drive space do you have currently on the boot volume? Assuming it's at least 25 GB's, then try making a disc image to the desktop from the file menu within iDvd. Then use apple's dvd player to test for proper playback. If you get to this point, then chances are it' not your mac but rather the media (assuming the s-drive is doing it's job and you are not trying to burn back to back dvd's w/o allowing the burner to cool a few mins.)
Hope this helps but if not feel free to come on back.
