Project location and archival

I have all my media content (.avi and .jpeg) managed by iPhoto in its database which is kept on an external drive. I created about 20 projects in iMovie'09, edited and exported the projects using QT for my Apple TV into another folder on the same external hard drive. And then imported that folder into my iTunes to make them available for streaming to my Apple TV.
The questions I have are:
1. Now that I am done with these 20 projects, can I archive these projects on the external drive? I don't know where they are now. I am assuming they are on the system disk in the default location.
2. In the future, can I create this projects in a folder on the external drive (lets call it "Active iMovie Projects".
3. Can I view only my active projects so that my project library stays uncluttered?

I found the answers to my questions and the process is very simple - typically the stuff for novices.
I found that all the projects were created in a folder called iMovie Projects under my user name folder in Macintosh HD drive (the primary internal drive). I created a new folder by the same name in my external data drive and moved all the project files from the original location to the new place. This took care of archiving my completed projects. I can still open these projects from the project view of iMovie by selecting the appropriate drive and edit them right there.
Now when I create my new projects, I select the drive where I want to create them. In my case, I have decided that I will create it in Macintosh HD drive. And since this is the place for active projects, I see an uncluttered view of projects.

  • How to block reusage of archived Project definition and WBS element numbers

    Dear All,
We have archived our projects using the TC SARA and the Project definition and WBS elements numbers no more exist in tables PROJ and PRPS etc.. When I now try to create a new project, the system proposes the next open number or allows to enter a number which is the same as one of the archived projects. But in our organization we cannot reuse the Project definition and WBS element numbers (even if it is archived) as a rule.
Can anybody guide me what are the possibilities to block or avoid the reusage of the numbers of archived project definition and WBS elements in a fool-proof way?
    Thanks and regards

    One Workaround:
Use T code OPSJ and lock the project coding mask. Doing this you can not use this mask any more.
But you want to continue using the mask but with different numbers. Not sure how this can be acheived. lets wait for others view

  • Help with locating and moving archives

Hi all, not sure where to post this but here goes.
We are currently planning to centralize all archives to one server as they are quite disparate at the moment. I have a program that finds the locations of the archives from groupwise but the issue is some are on the network and some are on the local drives. Of course d:\archives means nothing to most people as the pc name is required to locate. Is there a program that can automate the location and relocation of archives??? Id hate to have to locate over 300 archives manually
    Thanks

You could write one, but realize it wouldn't work well for 2 reasons.
    1. It would have to run while the user was logged on, on their
workstation or it might not have rights to the right mapped drive.
    2. Consolidation is not always wise. In fact it is a recipe for DISASTER
if you are not careful. You must create a structure like this
    BASE\PO\<archive>
in short, a base directory, followed by a subdirectory PER po.
Why? Remember the archive stores stuff by FID, not GUID. FIDs are OnLY
unique per PO, and clash fairly often in practice otherwise. You do not
want that- you will lose mail that way!

  • File paths and archiving (and referenced files).

I've come to the stage where I need to start using referenced files (out of disk space on my laptop) and also start archiving projects. One of my plans was to start keeping an off-site backup of all the originals in case something really bad happened. I'm also going to have on-site backup of projects. But for the off-site originals I would like to have some simple way of finding the photos in case something bad happens, my idea was to simply create a PDF from the list view where I could see the photo and the file path to where it's stored (I plan to store them in simple year-month-day hierarchy).
The reason why I'm not going to archive the projects off-site is simply the cost, I did a test yesterday and it looks like just storing the originals would be approx 1/3 in size of the projects.
If someone has a better idea of how to handle this please let me knoe

    I'll try to explain.
About the cost: Hard disk space is really cheap and I can not see how the cost should be that expensive. This is based on your statement that you still have your images on your laptop and that itself limits the amount of space hence a rather small library.
When it comes to backing up your projects you have several options. First, if you really want to be cheap about hard disk space (I think you should not since your images really are priceless) you can export projects of your referenced images and not consolidate the images into the exported project. Not to consolidate vs. consolidate images on export really makes a difference in the exported project size. On the other hand, not consolidate images on export of a project makes you back up your images separately, which leads to more work.
My advice is then; buy two disks (preferable three disks), and export your projects with the images consolidated into one of them and start using the other one with your referenced images.
I always advice users to have their images in at least three different locations and IMHO the ideal solution for you would be to have your images referenced on one disk and mirrored backups on the other two disks, either one stored in two different locations in case of burglary, fire etc.

  • The best way to manage vi locations and dependencies?

    Hi,
when i am updating my own vi version by creating a new folder with my files, somehow labview isn't so smart to link the subvi's and dll's that are also moved with the main programs.  now i am using project manager and the situation is even worse.  i am wondering if there is a best way of managing file dependency tree, for example, relative paths?
also, it seems that labview treat llb files as folders, so packing (sub)vis that are refering each other in one llb doesn't solve the problem, ie the vi in the new copy of llb file will still refer to the old file even the new version is right next to it in the same llb file.
if i archive the old files, labview becomes confused and fails to locate the new files.
as my project grows bigger, i will have to spend lot of time relinking subvis.  really need to solve this problem.....
    - yi

I don't see how you get this.
    But some pointers:
Make sure all VIs are under one folder.
Make sure all other versions of the files are not searchable (remove a backup-folder from your LabVIEW search paths)
    Create a LVproject.
Add the main VI to the project.
Open the main VI from the project
If you get warnings, go over them one by one and select the VI you want to keep.
Switch over to files view (available in 8.5 ctrl-e) and see if the VIs are in the expected locations, if not, open them (from the project), File-> save as (update callers)
This will get your project cleaned up.
From now on you only use the project window.
To make a backup-file, create a source-distribution, where you will rename each file (a feature available in 8.5)
If you  don't rename the files make sure you always close the project and any of it's files before opening a VI from the backup folder.

  • Transferring Video Projects to and External Harddrive

Can I transfer a video project to an external harddrive and delete the original from my computer. If so, whats the best way to do it"?

    csu1970
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
Depending on the circumstances yet to be exchanged, the easy way out would seem to be to archive the existing project via the program's Project Archiver/Copy Option with the Copied Folder pointed to the external hard drive. That folder will contain the project file (project.prel) and its assets including copies of source media that went into the project. Then you can delete the project file, its assets, and source media from the Local Disc C. DO NOT DELETE SOURCE MEDIA ON LOCAL DISC C THAT ARE ALSO BEING USED IN ANOTHER ACTIVE PROJECT.
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premiereelements/using/WS09e4b3c48f3a79fc19b622510385d4355c-7d cb.html
After that you can work with that particular program from that location.
Before you start a new project, you can set the project Save In: (new project dialog) and program assets (including Scratch Disks) to the external hard drive, best to its own folder.
In this type of situation, the prime concern to to avoid media disconnect issues. If you move or delete source media that went into a project after the project's save/close, you are going to have major problems with "Where is file....?" and the like.
    More later.

  • Merging and archiving InfoPath data

    Hello Friends,
I have 2 InfoPath libraries. The first library consists of columns that capture user information like EmpID, designation and project name. Using a data connection I'm populating the above mentioned information on 2nd InfoPath library which is usually used
by clients and assign project work to the employee. Multiple projects are assigned to same employee.
Now I have a requirement, wherein I have to merge the data from the above 2 libraries and archive it in some other location, probably a custom list.
I need to implement a workflow which performs this action and this should run monthly once. Please suggest how can I achieve this.

If you simply delete the archivelogs at the OS level, the database will never know about it and it will continue to think the destination is full, based on records kept in the control file.
For regular housekeeping, you need to be doing something similar to this in rman:
    run {
      backup archivelog all not backed up 1 times tag='bkup_vlnxora1_arch';
      delete noprompt archivelog all backed up 1 times to device type disk;

  • Which user is used to pick-up and archive files using the file adapter?

    Hi guys,
which one it is? is it XIPADM?
    thank you,
    Olian

    Hi! Olian,
You can get archive the file from FTP Server also or else even you can kept the folderrs in your local machine also....its your choice..
Suppose if you want to Keep and archive directory or else a folder of another copy at which you are sending files from XI  you can follow the below steps...
    1. While configuring the Sender File Adapter you can select the option of ARchive directory ....there in File Adapter Parameters..
    2. Select that radio button and then create first one seperate folder in FTP location and then you can enter that directory path name in the Archive directory 3. Also if you want to delete the files from where the XI is picking the files from the source directory means select option called Delete.......
    3. Then automatically it will be deleted once the file is picked and also it can maintain another copy file in the archive folder or directory...
I hope it can be useful to you.and this is sufficent to you...

  • Set datasource location and remapping fields in code instead of designer

    Dear all,
We are currently migrating a VS6 reporting project to VS2010. The old project has like 133 Crystal Reports XI release 2 reports.
All of these .rpt files need to have their datasource location changed and fields remapped because of a change in naming convention.
The datasource location is currently set to a stored procedure in an Oracle database and this will remain; only the name of the
stored procedure and the name of the fields returned are changed (due to new naming conventions).
Is there a way, and I really hope so, to programmatically change the datasource location and remap the fields (mind that these fields are also used in formulas, grouping, total, ...).
Doing this manually in the designer for like 133 times would be very time consuming.
After some research I stumbled upon the CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.Controllers.DatabaseController but I'm looking for some example usage, if this is the correct way.
The end result should be that all these 133 .rpt files have their datasource location changed and fields remapped.
Any assistance or pointers in the right direction would be kindly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Not aware of how you can do this in code.
However, there are third party products which you can use to mass update reports with datasource and table mapping.
RptInspector is a product I know of that can do what you want.

The session facade is just one DataSource lookup.huh? Those J2EE patterns are not really reduced to datasources and the SessionFacade has actually nothing to do with datasources.
    Session Facade
It has Facade in it and a Facade is usually used to give a simple entrypoint by providing a standartized interface. The same is now with the Session Facade. You have a Session bean that represents a high-level business component that interacts and calls lower-level business components.
Imagine having client a accessing 5 business objects with the remote calls, which is not an efficient way (network latency) or accessing the SessionFace and the session face is doing all the work through local access.
    Service Locator
As J2EE components are using JDNI to lookup for ejb interfaces,DataSources, JMS components, connections etc. isntead of writing all the lookup in many code piecess across the project, you write a service locator that gives you a centralized place to handle the lookup's. It's easier to maintain and to control such a setup.
As you can see there's quite a big difference ;-)

  • Oracle 11g, Locator, and 3D data, part 2

    All,
I'm trying to decipher the differences in the Locator vs Spatial functionality for 3D data in Oracle 11gR2.  I found the archived discussion:
    https://community.oracle.com/thread/2566650
In this discussion, the answer was that using the SDO_RELATE and SDO_ANYINTERACT operators on 3D data with a 2D index was covered under Locator.  My assumption, then, is if I have 3D data with a 3D index and use the SDO_RELATE operator, that is not covered under Locator and I would need to pay for the Spatial licensing.  Is that correct?
Can I assume that if I create a 2D index on the 3D data, then I'm safe to use all the functions in "Table B-1 Spatial-Related Features Supported for Locator" in the Spatial Developer's Guide?
    Thanks,
